"Wh-where am I?" Kuri said.
In her arms was a young child, and given his size, somewhere between 8 and 11. He had a small, childlike stature, with a round face, big eyes, and a generally innocent expression that belies his true nature. His skin had a purplish hue, and he wass adorned with traditional Japanese-inspired garments that include a long robe and sash.
"Oh? You don't know?" Usamaro said. "I'll introduce myself. I am Usamaro. The fact that I am here is proof that your seal on Satan is weakening."
"I did not seal Satan." Kuri said.
"Of course you did, Midoriko." Usamaro said. "It's time for you to release Satan."
"Never." Kuri said, throwing Usamaro across the room.
Usamaro stumbled, and grasped her once more, placing an ofuda on her head. "You are susceptible to wards, aren't you? Its the monster in you."
Kuri gripped him, hoping to crush him.
"What must I show you to make you truly cry?" Usamaro asked.
Reiko was being ripped apart by demons. Her blood spattered everywhere; her cries of pain echoing as he growled.
Kuri crushed him harder; he grunted in pain.
"Or would it be this—"
Rin. The light faded from his eyes. He wasn't sealed; he was dying.
His eyes opened. "Why do you kill me; Kuri? Why? Was I just another demon for you to ensorcel and destroy?"
She backed away.
"Or is it because you fear I, like Satan, will destroy you?"
Her powers faded.
"I won't make the same mistake as Midoriko!" Kuri said to Usamaro. "I won't lose faith in Rin! There is nothing you can do! I will not break!"
Usamaro dropped her, and held out his hand. Into it dropped a crystallized tear.
"Then why are you crying?"
A tear hit the jewel; and Satan was free.
