The appearance of these intruders made Aizawa snap at the underprepared students as well as his colleague who was now catching on to what was happening just now.
"Students! Get into a group and stay behind us!"
Thirteen didn't ask any questions as Kirishima simply asked out of naivety if this was just another form of exercise the teachers had planned for them. It was like the supply of villains pouring out of the portal was nothing short of a miniature army.
"How long until the ESD makes it here?"
The first one to appear through the portal asked a shadowy pair of eyes that formed themselves inside the dark miasma of the roft itself.
"We should have about fifteen to twenty minutes until reinforcements arrive. The amount of money we forked over for that bug should be enough for us to do what we came here to do and leave. Only problem I see is that All Might isn't here."
"Hm, after all the trouble we went through to gather up all these playmates…"
He tilted his face to the sky and spoke just loud enough for the class above to hear him from the entrance.
"... Maybe a few dead kids will bring him out to play…"
UA Academy ESD Vehicle Bay
There were a multitude of officers in full gear and loading their respective vehicles with fresh equipment and other necessities. There were three main shutter doors with a pair of all-terrain armored vehicles lined up at each door. The first armored vehicle was almost set to go with a team of fifteen primed and strapped in. A technician was doing a final check before hitting a command on his digital tablet and rolling the armored doors up for the vehicle to take off.
"All clear; system set and final check approved."
The vehicle peeled rubber and flew out of the bay before hitting the gravel under the ramp and making a drifting turn towards the Disaster Simulation Arena. The Head Technician saw one vehicle out and racing towards the breach before the rest of the vehicles were able to finish their diagnostics. He took over the intercon through his earpiece and yelled to the rest of the officers lagging behind by just a few moments.
"One minute is already too long! Let's fucking get out there already, you sluggish shits!"
The bay blew up in a unanimous shout of 'sir' with nobody losing focus in getting out the gate and behind the first responders. One after the other; each vehicle followed suit with another forty five or so operatives behind the initial fifteen. In the upstairs space the support staff were all looking into finding out any other information on the security breach. Even with more than a dozen plates spinning there was no loss in productivity. It was do or die for each person there.
UA Academy Disaster Simulation Arena
The panic was setting in for the vulnerable students there. Only two people there were considered to be professional heroes qualified to combat this sort of situation with about thirty or so students they needed to protect while fighting off the multitude of villains.
"Why are villain's attacking a hero academy?!"
"Sensei; aren't there sensors to detect intruders?"
Thirteen was the one to respond to Momo's question.
"There are! It's just that-"
"-Likely, there was a bit of research they did before coming here."
Todoroki offered his insight to the sudden ambush and how it was likely achieved.
"Blocking a signal isn't enough to get by security here. They likely found a way to trick the system into thinking there's nothing wrong while they take care of their mission. Although something like that should be picked up on easily enough; so whatever they're here to do, they need to do quickly. Which explains their numbers."
Thirteen needed to remember to pay close attention to that boy and his progress here at UA after they've made it out of here alive. The tight window of opportunity, the lack of attendance at the arena itself, too many things were coinciding for this to be a simple attack from a couple of villains. Time was both on their side and against them with daunting numbers creeping towards them with every second that passed.
"Thirteen! Get started on evacuating the students and contact the UA security through whatever means necessary! Whatever they're doing is likely a hack of sorts, so see if we can compromise that somehow. Kaminari, see if you can interfere with the signals in the building."
"What?! How would blocking the signal for help-"
"Just do it!"
Aizawa was ready to fight as his goggles were down and the scarf he wore was now slightly loosened to release a number of tendrils made out of the same unique fabric. He was ready for battle and it began to make Izuku slightly worried about the teacher's odds of winning.
"Sensei, you can't possibly fight them all on your own! The Eraser Head style of fighting is based on erasure and quick capture; there's no way you can disable all of them long enough to-"
"Then it's a good thing that I'm not doing that style for today."
Without even looking back at the students, he asked them all a rather strange request before he disembarked into the thick of it.
"Whatever you're about to see here today; try not to talk about it after all of this is over…"
It was a strange sight to see their teacher go into a moment of tranquility when there were numerous reasons to do otherwise. Some of the students were feeling something akin to deja vu while watching Aizawa take a deep breath in and relax his body before tilting forward limp and falling to the floor below. While some recognized the sensation more than others, only one could put a finger on where they've seen it before. Only one was repeatedly exposed to this sensation multiple times before arriving at this school.
Bakugou knew where this feeling was trying to recognize. He only felt this sense of serene peace before a sparring match with Haru when he trained with the boy.
Months Ago
The impatient Bakugou went sprawling to the grass again as Haru caught the boy's leg and just held it there long enough for the kid to lose his balance on his own. It was well into the third month of training and it was getting to Bakugou how much of a difference his amount of dexterity lacked in comparison to his teachers. Not even able to sit back up; Haru told the boy his perception of what the boy was lacking so far.
"Kiddo, you gotta relax. At least stop tensing up so much."
"How the hell am I supposed to do that? I'm about to go into a fight; so how does that make sense?"
Haru just took a second to think of a way to demonstrate rather than using a bland explanation. One idea came to him and it was sufficient enough for a boy as perceptive as Katsuki.
"Just watch me for a moment."
Haru put his hands up in a relaxed stance before going even more relaxed than that. It was bizarre to see Haru's eyes actually clear up and focus before he unleashed a combo of punches and kicks that looked even faster and effortless than what he was expecting. All of it was borderline impossible to follow with how iquick it was. The teacher turned to his pupil with a look that asked the boy if he had any more questions. Bakugou's understanding wasn't perfect, but it was enough for him to get on the right track of thought for the rest of his training. To this date he was still unable to explain what it exactly was he learned; it was like he was given a feeling to focus on rather than something specific to focus his efforts on.
The similarities of the sensation he got from here was hauntingly similar to what he was looking at now.
Present Time
Now dawning the heroic visage; Eraser Head sailed through the air as though he lost consciousness from the top of the stairs. It baffled the villains below enough to consider letting the supposed hero instructor hit the ground with how little corrective movement he was making in the air. They were ready to pluck him out of the air with their firepower when they realized nothing was happening when they were trying to activate their quirks.
"Why can't I fi-"
Four villains were effortlessly caught and slammed into each other while helping Aizawa come to a halt with their weight countering his momentum. The hero was up on his feet while maintaining his relaxed composure when another villain began monologuing to the rest of his companions.
"You idiots; it's Eraser Head! He can negate quirks by just staring at them, but can't negate mutation types like some of-"
The villain was violently cut off with Aizawa digging his hand into the villain's eye socket with his fingers. He screamed out of sheer agony and flailed at the hero mounting him from above. Another villain tried to swing at Eraser Head with all of his might, but only caught the villain now missing an eye by accident. It didn't stop there as the strips of reinforced fabric tangled up the two heavyweights with one another. With one swing to the ground, Aizawa slammed the both of them into the ground and rendered them both knocked out. There was a moment of realization for many of the villains there that this wasn't his usual style of fighting.
Before it was always as Izuku described it; a quick moment of negation followed by a takedown of sorts usually assisted by his unique scarf that would help him gain some range on his opponent. He never resorted to such dirty tactics like eye gouging to take out his opponents. What's more, there was an eerie serenity around him. His limbs looked as though he was just letting them hang loose at his sides while zoning out. Nobody knew if that was the case since there were heavily tinted goggles blocking their view of Eraser Head's eyes. What escaped almost every villain save for the leader was how little energy the hero had exerted by this point. All the villains that were taken out were steamrolled with the same amount of energy needed to throw one punch or kick at half strength. They had done most of the work in taking each other out with their own weight and strength. This was nothing like the Eraser Head that fought villains out in the public.
What cemented the drastic change of style was when another villain tried to blindside the hero from behind. There were about three more villains willing to risk injury to catch the hero from his blind spot. They all went in and it was a mistake at the get go. The one closest to Eraser Head was disabled with a throat strike that had a rather audible crack coming from the point of impact. He went down reaching for his throat and with his size it caused the two trailing behind to trip over his tumbling frame. Aizawa didn't skip a beat and struck the one to his left stumbling over their ally and made their head spin one hundred degrees to the right and released a chain of loud pops that caused the villain's eyes to roll back in their head and brought them crashing to the concrete. The other thought he had a window to strike when he received an elbow to the nose that collapsed the cartilage into his skull with one stroke. He too went limp to the floor without another moment to even register what happened.
Now this was interesting for the pale villain donning the hands all over his body. Every blow that Eraser Head went for was in some way fatal enough to kill his opponents. First one was likely already suffocating to death right now. The other two were unconscious with the possibility of a broken neck and severe concussion while the other was sporting a break in the nose that could have shanked the brainstem with the orbital bone. This was beginning to excite the villain a little to see such a nasty side of such a well revered hero come out to play with his other playmates. Best of all, there was so much energy left in the breaking bad hero that he knew that there was the likelihood even he would have a turn without having to compromise for exhaustion in his opponent. His terrible habit of itching came back with vengeance and was now exposing raw skin on his neck. He wanted his turn sooner than later.
"Wait, something's different…"
"C'mon, Izuku! We gotta go now!"
Izuku's habit of over analyzing caused the boy to lag behind for a single moment. There was something incredibly off from how Eraser Head fought the group of villains below. He didn't have that signature stance or dynamic movement skirting those he fought with his above excellent athleticism. It was like the hero was sedentary while letting his opponents come to him. On top of that, they were all going down with one or two strikes each and weren't moving much once they went down once. Young Midoriya could have sworn he saw something like this before and it was escaping him like the devil himself. For now the more pressing matter was to join everybody at the exit and try to escape with the group intact. He rushed to join the others when a massive gale of shadows swirled around and through the group like black mist.
"Good afternoon, everybody."
From out of the shadows there were a pair of slitted lights that vaguely looked to be the quirk users head.
"We are the League of Villains. Apologies for the sudden appearance; but our mission here at UA Academy is to end All Might and his reign over the world as it's hero."
A chill went up everyone's spine at the brash announcement these terrorists claimed to have been intent on completing. Izuku's mind began to reel at the possibility that such a force of villainy had finally managed to find a way to strike down one of his mentors.
"It's unfortunate that he seemingly changed his schedule as of recently. No matter, my mission is clear and I intend to follow thr-"
Izuku, Kirishima, and Bakugou all went in on a tri-attack to stop the villain in his tracks. Bakugou was to the far right with Kirishima sandwiched between Katsuki and Izuku. This way it was Kirishima that took the brunt of the explosion while allowing Izuku land a blow without injuring himself by the close proximity to Bakugou. The plume of black smoke was enough evidence that they had succeeded in connecting their attack, or at least that Katsuki was the one who managed to land a blow.
"Why don't you follow through THAT, jackass!"
Kirishima was the one to mouth off through the thick cloud of black smoke at the teleporter villain. The teacher saw something start to move through the smoke and reconstitute itself.
"... Hm, how rude. It seems as though you all are lacking in some manners. No matter, I know some people here that would love to help straighten you out with some rather unique methods of their own."
He reached out to encase the class in a dome made up of the same darkness that constituted his partially physical body. Not only was he difficult to damage, he also possessed impressive speed for his gascious body.
"Children! Run for it!"
Her pleas for the class to escape were all in vain as there was no escape from this cyclone trapping everybody. Thirteen was unable to react quick enough to prevent several students from being teleported all across the Disaster Simulation Arena. For Izuku, he landed inside some sort of deep body of water backwards and was slightly disoriented until he found his direction of up and down. He saw a villain with a mouth akin to a great whites with rows of sharpened teeth ready to sink into his torso as he was trying to break the surface for some air.
There was no physical way he was capable of outracing the sharkman about to go for the kill. Even with One for All, the most he could hope for was a moment to counter the set of jaws set on feasting upon Izuku's body. A set of webbed boots slammed into the left hinge of the shark man's jaw. With a moment to take in the new situation; Izuku saw it was Asui Tsuyu who had come to his aid. Her garbled words went indiscernible as she wrapped her tongue around Midoriya's torso and dragged him to the surface. Izuku was placed down on the deck of the simulated boat with relative gentleness for how little time she had to worry about semantics.
"Mmm-your boobs are big… for a frog…"
Haru would have recommended to Tsuyu to at least crack the fiberglass when she slammed the rather offensive Mineta on board. Izuku shakily got to his feet with the side effect of going light-headed after almost drowning just now. He saw Asui vault the handrail just as he got his orientation straightened out enough.
"Thank's, Asui."
"Call me Tsuyu. Although don't thank me just yet."
Izuku didn't outright say anything about how generous the frog girl's figure was through the wetsuit. Her leg over the rail looked so much longer than it was as she gingerly placed herself on the deck. A teenage boy's mind was something that most forget about in terms of how utterly impossible it was to control certain developing urges. He at least possessed the decency to look away when she noticed where Izuku was staring.
The far more pressing issue was that there was an allusion to the fact the villains knew of All Might's class schedule. The short but unlikely explanation was that they used the distraction of the reporters the other day to get that confidential information. There were still a fair amount of officers inside the building and it wasn't apparent that there was an internal security breach. The more likely and true possibility was that these villains had the necessary connections and resources necessary to get not only the information; but the method to disable and bypass the security sensors. Either way it was not an easy feat to do either. All of this was just a theory between all three students trapped on the boat.
"They can't actually think that All Might can be killed by them, right? He'll just punch them once and send them flying!"
"All these villains wouldn't be here in the first place if they thought they couldn't. They must have found something that could do the job."
Tsuyu was always the straightforward one without thinking about any sort of delicacy. Her and Izuku were combing through the information available when Mineta looked over the edge of the boat and saw something that made his gut drop. He alerted the other two on the boat to the school of villains; now surrounding the boat and keeping the three UA students out of the water without a way to contain the group of water based quirk users. Midoriya was still trying to find a line of logic that would answer for the sudden and risky attack these villains attempted just now. He felt something as his memories of All Might so far played out in his head over and over again. The heroism that inspired Izuku coars through his veins and motivated him to act. What brought him down from the emotional high and forced him to think more rationally was Haru's guidance over the years. Acting out on a rush of reckless emotions was the equivalent of jumping off a cliff. He calmed himself and steeled his spirit before opening his eyes with a clear focus and mission to repel the villains invading this school. His school.
Not a single hero or to-be hero in that building was giving up. This was the fight to repel this unwanted evil with all their might.
Some Distance Away
Inside the armored ATV racing to the DSA; the squad of operatives sitting in the glow of the red light fully geared up were doing final checks on their weapons and equipment for anything that could be considered a defect that could risk their efficiency. The squad leader came up on the monitor on the wall furthest from the exit door as an audio wave to brief his squad.
"Pay attention. As of three minutes ago we have received a possible security breach on UA Academy grounds through unknown means. The supposed security hack that tried to infiltrate our systems was immediately detected with other systems being disabled at the same time."
None of the men spoke out of turn and were absorbing all the necessary information to their rescue op.
"The square area of the space is extremely wide. An attack on visual and other such connections would indicate that this an infiltration on a large enough scale to warrant blocking out all security measures inside the building. Exercise extreme caution as we breach the front as we are likely going to be outnumbered at the first point."
A 3d scan of the practice arena showed the space in comparison to the size of the average male. It was a fully comprehensive model with a map that displayed the sections used to simulate natural and manmade disasters as well.
"We're getting biometrics as we speak… Looks to be just over one hundred and twenty combatants inside the building. So we'll start from the front and utilize the elevation to our advantage. I need breach and clear on top of things as there are a significant amount of hostages at the entry point. Snipers will be placed here as well as here. NOw for medical I'm gonna need you to…"
The rest of the brief went effortlessly and quickly as the team of officers finally arrived and leapt out to get started on the rescue operation. Far above in the sky were about two or three drones scanning the building below for biometrics and other foreign structures not recognized or emitting any sort of radiation. All this information was then sent to the technician's department where every person inside the office was working at full capacity to ensure the information's accuracy as well as live support to their people on the ground. Not a single movement was wasted with the entirety of the active ESD staff on the operation getting ready for nothing short of a war.
"Alright; breaching in three, two…"
UA Academy Principal's Office
"Principal! What is going on with security around here?"
All Might came to a screeching halt at the front of the large wooden desk being occupied by a disproportionately small rodent of sorts. Not all of his features were completely rodent-like, such as the tail and paws. He was dressed sharply in a pinstripe vest and pant's combo with a white dress shirt completing the ensemble with a dark maroon tie. At first glance he looked to be as unassuming and intimidating as a mascot. Listening to him would render a much different mindset over who this head educator was.
"Ah, All Might! Come in, have a seat. Is there anything that you would like to have? Tea? Snack?"
"Principal, why have so many officers moving about right now?"
A reluctant sigh from the miniature chimera was followed up by a quick leap down to the carpet and a short trip to the glass windows overlooking the campus from his office. He looked out to admire the view for a moment before he spoke to the hero awaiting his answer.
"... All Might, do you know why the ESD has staff and personnel in almost every hero academy in the country? Mind you those missing an ESD security department are to receive one eventually."
That was a rather good question. One would think that the simple density of hero instructors at every campus across the country would be enough of a deterrent for villains. He was a little stumped as to their presence in schools when the ESD didn't have patrols or security outside of schools. They had been adamant in remaining as a response group to dangerous scenarios that threatened the public. This helped put the public at ease as they saw the ESD as something that was there to protect them and not some sort of new way for the government to keep their eyes on the public.
"I wouldn't know enough about such a thing to give you a proper answer…"
"Ha ha ha, of course not! I would not expect you to worry about such a thing as inconsequential to you as this."
The pause before the principal spoke again had seemingly shifted the mood of the conversation for All Might.
"... Do you know the potential losses this country would have seen had the ESD not been conceived? Their place in our society?"
Another moment of silence to illustrate his lack of knowledge on the subject.
"From the very start they implemented new forms of liability insurance practices to help those who would have struggled to have found compensation otherwise. Their response time and sheer numbers help innocent people in dire situations when heroes are unable to respond in time. The capture rate of villains that incite the ESD to respond are practically nothing short of perfect. As an organization; they seek the protection of our society and have delivered results that couldn't be described as anything but perfect."
It was rare for the principal to compliment humans like he did since his past made him slightly prejudiced towards the human race. Still, it was a bit of a reluctant tone that he spoke of them. In his eyes these were all facts instead of words of praise.
"All these reasons are not why I agreed almost immediately to their presence in my academy. It was something that I see in the ESD that heroes and society must come to understand…"
"... What is the reason?"
Approximately One Minute Later
"Get that vehicle out there now! Stop-"
"Excuse me!"
The lead technician was whipped around and clasped by the shoulders by a distraught All Might who looked as though he sprinted here from the front of the school. He responded appropriately without hesitation.
"Yes sir?"
A protruding digit from his massive hand pointed to the last armored vehicle about to take off.
"I need to get on that, right now!"
"Immediately."
"I don't care about what it is you have to say against it! I'll… Wait, what?"
There was no hesitation for the officer to respond to All Might's question either.
"Protocol dictates that if transportation is available in cases of emergencies; instructors are authorized to comindeer transportation alongside officers sent to respond to the emergency."
"... Oh. W-well… That's good, then… Good."
He was anticipating all sorts of resistance and argument in comparison to the perfect complicity and accommodation the ESD had offered him just now. He let the poor technician down to the floor and just brushed the man off politely as a slight apology for his brash behavior. No animosity was even apparent towards him as the lead technician snapped his fingers to another officer in the bay to get All Might some protective gear before he got into the transport vehicle. A helmet and flak jacket equipped with armored plating was handed to the hero with a respectful bow in a few seconds flat. The size was even perfect for his hulking musculature.
"I would just ask that you deactivate your quirk for the sake of space since we would have to remove at least two officers while you remain in this form."
In all his years of being a hero and fighting against all sorts of strange and bizarre things over the years; that was what shocked him the most by far. He was certain that his rested form was a well kept secret that he personally ensured with every person who knew. Who was it that told this group of men and potentially scattered his secret to the wind?
"We already knew of all this through your medical records, sir. It was necessary for us to know as part of our protocol to accommodate your needs as well as ours. So if you would…"
Such a professional approach of the subject lowered All Might's guard enough to allow the hero to return to his emaciated and barely healthy form. Nobody even passing by gave the hero a second look.
"Thank you, sir. Now if you would please follow the direction of the officer here; we'll be leaving as of right now."
Passing the hero wearing an oversized set of combat gear to another officer inside the main transport space; the technician went back to making sure that the protocols to accommodate All Might were met before giving the green light for the driver to take off. The vehicle went a bit slower in comparison to the other vehicles to prevent All Might getting injured on the initial descent. Once the road was in front of the vehicle, all bets were off. It reached the necessary speeds in no time and was trailing a little behind from the other armored transports.
All Might could only think of what the principal said to him that made him rush to the emergency. A cold hearted philosophy that was likely going to affect his students if he didn't get there in time. He prayed he would be there in time.
Some Time Ago
"What is the reason?"
The principal looked All Might in the eyes as he spoke the truth of his allowance of this imposing department of law enforcement into UA Academy.
"Our students will be safe; no matter what…"
"... What? Wh-what does that even mean? I don't-"
The more experienced educator cut off the legendary hero still in his powerful activated form. Right now there was no difference for the man if he was skinny and weak or massive and strong; the principal was pushing back the hero with his unadulterated thoughts.
"What many people don't know about this new form of law enforcement is how seriously they take their jobs. The safety of those they swore to protect is second to none in comparison to anything else of this scale. They do have a mind to be supportive of the public and serve as the support that heroes need to protect the people to the highest capacity."
A cold and empty stare aimed right at All Might's soul chilled the hero to the core. No villain had even managed to scare him as much as the principal at that moment.
"Right now I have received word that the heroes at the arena are heavily outnumbered and are fighting a losing battle. Do you know what ESD protocol authorizes when hero support is found to be insufficient?"
Present Time
All might couldn't hear the sounds of the briefing on the opposite side of the vehicle cabin. He could only recall the words that the president told him before he bolted out of the room to get a ride to help save his quirk for the inevitable fight.
"Lethal force. No survivors."
UA Academy Disaster Simulation Arena
Iida was faced with a difficult choice brought on by the circumstance of the situation. Everybody was giving him words of support to follow through with the lesser evil of the two choices. They all wanted Iida to make a break for it to see if he could make it back to the main campus to get help for the rest of the students trapped inside. Just when Thirteen gave her final words on the matter, there was a loud clanging noise from the other side of the sliding doors. There was something protruding from in between the two slats that kept the door shut. The first to react to this new development was the shadow that flew right past the group of students and towards the opening doors.
It was still about five to ten minutes too early before they were supposed to arrive. The amount of options greatly decreased just now with the arrival of these new enemies to the League of Villains. If he was able to slow down the initial group of officers, then there was perhaps some hope that they could delay enough to warrant All Might to show up as a response. What made this all a fleeting hope was the sight of four gun barrels aimed right at the dead center of where his neck was. Where his actual body was centered.
Four shots went off at the same time and sent the metal casing of his body flying backwards with the combined force of all shots fired at once. The door was finally propped open for the squad to place two hydraulic jacks to keep the door open in place of the jaws of life that opened the door in the first place. Once the doors were open the officers poured in with their guns trained dead center of the shadowy figure. They unloaded one shot after another into the only physical part of the quirk user. He screamed in agony with every connecting shot rattling his metal housing. With no other choice he teleported away out of desperation.
Four officers with these intimidating rifles loaded with rubber shells secured the area of any other immediate threat. With them were four officers interweaved with them with hefty antipersonnel riot shields that looked to weigh as much as a grown man each. The shield bearers got into a circular formation with the other gunners to scan for potential threats while they kept moving towards the stairs. Behind the close quarter personnel were the riflemen with a rather complex looking piece of weapons technology in each of their arms. There was difficulty in getting any sort of weapon into the country regardless of social standings or political influence; seeing such advanced firepower made the student's a bit afraid of what was about to happen.
Officers at the top of the stairs were set up with interchanging positions of firearms and riot shields to both maximize offensive capabilities as well as defensive ones. Four snipers were all aiming down at the lower levels with targets already in their crosshairs. Two officers dressed in white were already checking the students for potential injuries with their biometric scanners actively searching for any medical complications below the visible surface.
Far below the rest of the officers was Aizawa fighting on his own. The officers identified the lone hero and deployed the riot guard to assist him. The eight officers blocking the staircase leapt down and landed on the concrete below without taking the stairs. The villains in between the officers and Eraser Head all leapt to the tightly organized squad, thinking that the new arrivals were easier pickings. They all got picked off with blasts of rubber pellets knocking away those getting too close to the squad. Some tried to use the shields as a form of cover from the officers line of fire. One nimble villain tried to vault one of the shields to get the jump on them; he lost several teeth as the shield bearer slammed the heavy alloy plating into the villain trying to slip into their formation. In no time at all they reached Eraser Head and formed a protective perimeter around the hero. Nobody dared to get to close unless they were itching for a broken bone or some other debilitating injury.
An intimidating officer that exuded a different atmosphere of command approached the steps with another line of officers armed with rifles of some kind and more shield bearers forming a protective perimeter at the top of the steps. The students were all being medically assessed while this officer began to speak with the overhead PA system picking up his voice.
"Attention intruders! Place your hands upon your heads and lie faced down upon a solid surface on the ground to surrender yourselves! This is your first warning; there will not be a third warning! I repeat; there will not be a third warning issued to you or your associates; should you fail to comply!"
A large amount of mockery came from below out of the crowd of villains. None of the villains were familiar with the ESD escalation procedure since the ESD was spawned roughly just over two years ago. Most resorted to mocking the warning or outright laughing at the warning presented. There was clearly a need to establish a baseline of threat. The squad leader simply snapped his fingers to get his men looking down from the top of the steps to load the tip of their guns with these odd canisters that fitted over the barrels of their weapons. They all aimed their weapons at an angle upwards before they unleashed their first round of warnings.
"Fire."
The canisters were launched up into the air and fell downwards to the crowd below. From the deployed cans came a noxious fume that was thick and covered the lower grounds in a heavy fog of gas. Violent coughing and screams of pain were coming out from the blanketed areas while the squad leader ordered another two rounds of gas to be deployed from his men. It was a carpet of fumes causing massive amounts of villains unable to breathe or see with the chemicals making contact with their eyes and lungs. Aizawa was offered a mask by one of the officers and was able to watch from the safety of the perimeter he was in as the villains began to double over in agony.
"This is your second and final warning!" Further lack of compliance will be seen as acts of aggression! Place your hands on the back of your heads and lie faced down onto the floor immediately!"
Many villains began to mouth off again from inside the cloud of teargas.
"Fuck you, assholes! You're gonna have to kill us if you want us to stop!"
"... Very well."
The officer swapped to the communications channel to notify the operatives standing by for further instructions.
"Lethal force authorized. Use of live ammunition is now active."
Every officer began to swap out their magazines for a different ammo type on their persons. Below the main defensive formation, the officers with their own shot rifles swapped their magazines out and charged their bolts to chamber the new ammo type. Back at the top of the stairs, the same scenario with every gunman was occurring just the same. The class noticed the sudden shift in atmosphere as they saw the officers defending them swap out something in all of their guns. Aizawa could read the room well enough to realize that the ESD protocol when the presence of heroes was lacking accompanied by the presence of a tangible threat was now in effect.
"Sir, we can escort you to safety. How would you like to proceed?"
One of the officers forming the phalanx around Eraser Head offered the hero a way to escape the impending carnage. It didn't sit quite right with the hero, but he was powerless to stop them from doing their jobs. He simply shook his head and stared at the silhouetted villains lit up through the gas masks tinted visor. These people made a mistake they were too naive to realize. He was not going to just sit aside to let others fight his battles; so for now he would stay to assist in the coming skirmish.
"Very well, sir. Please stay behind us and out of the line of fire for your safety."
The officers were all set to go as a villain who was fortunate enough to have an appropriate gas mask setup as part of their costume had finally stumbled into the group of officers. A moment of realization was all he had before the officer closest to him wielding a gun took aim and blew clean through his skull and sent him flying back to the floor with a puddle of viscera where their head used to be. The first shot instigated a chain of gunfire and screaming that sent chills down the spines of the students and villains alike. The echoes of one sided violence rang through the air and carried themselves to the very edges of the massive dome.
On the edges of the higher ground were almost twice the amount of riflemen that there were a moment ago. These officers were already swapped over to live ammunition and were picking off their targets one by one with deadly accuracy. Their rifles fired into the disoriented crown of intruders below without remorse or hesitation. The villains were struggling enough to find their way through the fog of noxious gas, being gunned down with rifle ammo just made it so that they would stop struggling so much. Some of the villains were brave enough to charge the group of officers protecting Eraser Head with some of them even being able to navigate the fog without too much trouble. When they got close, however, they were met with a powerful blast of burning gunpowder and buckshot ripping through their vulnerable flesh and bones.
One larger villain was able to charge through the smoke and avoided the most serious of injuries by a hair and grabbed one of the shields protecting the once defensive group. He knew that he could produce enough strength to rip away the shield to give his other attackers a window of opportunity to break up the officers. Although he was taller than the already impressively built officer; the villain felt the heavy shield lift itself and slam into his pelvis from the front. It missed his balls with the angle of the blow, but it still hurt like hell and sent the villain towards the floor and pinned him underneath the bottom edge of the shield. Without a moment to even push himself up from lying flat on his back; there was a sudden loud bang followed by an agonizing stabbing sensation that felt as though he was suddenly riveted to the hard concrete.
Looking down revealed the horrible truth of the matter. He saw two bleeding puncture wounds that indeed went the way through him to just then barely penetrate the floor. The shield retracted the concrete nails and caused the villain to scream out in pain as the shock had worn off enough to let him feel the pain multiply. A few seconds of screaming and crying that was then cut off with the same bloodied piece of protective equipment coming down hard on the villain's neck. The bones and cartilage were shattered and the vacant expression still twisted into a mask of pure agony with how quickly the man had his head almost severed just then. Riot gear that the ESD had designed for their officers were not designed to be purely passive in subjugating their targets.
These shields were designed to not only be strong and heavy enough to defend against hostile quirk users; these shields possessed a unique piston system that launched reinforced pikes into the ground below to assist the officers stand their ground against heavier enemies. Unknown to the general public was that these specialized officers who wielded these shields were also trained to utilize them as weapons to incapacitate and use them as actual weapons. Something these officers were doing very well at the moment.
On the other side of the spectrum were villains who were wildly unprepared to give their lives to the cause they fought for. Seeing some of the heavy hitters go down so easily made them feel outclassed and terrified for their own wellbeing. They tried to take off for cover or safety in absolute vain. Sprinting for some sort of cover gave the snipers above a reason to spread out their attention to pick off the runners. Those closer to the edges of the clearing were the first to go. The ones following right behind those fleeing for their lives saw heads and limbs burst open and shower the ground below in thick blood. Rapid gunfire kept picking off those fleeing from an impressive distance. A lot of villains were injured and crawling for safety with their wounds making it agonizing to move the slightest bit.
Those still alive and trying to hide were then shot again from above. One villain was nursing a puncture wound in her back that she was certain that had shattered her shoulder blade and possibly punctured a lung. With one arm she kept inching along the floor to get herself away from the chaos. Another bullet sailed through the air and buried itself in the hard surface on the side of her head opposite of the sniper who took the shot. These snipers were often just taking shots to immobilize or assist heroes when they operated in the public. When all bets were off; they were crack shots under any sort of circumstance without spotters to assist in gauging the environment. Their uniforms were designed with sensors with a readout being displayed into their visors to get them their wind direction, temperature, atmospheric pressure, elevation, humidity, and more. Being indoors made the targets as easy to hit as stationary targets in a practice range.
Some villains tried to wind up their quirks to attack the group of officers from above with a bounding leap from overhead. They felt like this was their opportunity to turn the tides when they suddenly caught onto the fact that they couldn't deploy any of their quirks. The hero Eraser Head had his quirk active and was staring at the airborne villains plummet from the sky right at the armed and dangerous ESD officers. The officers caught on quickly as three of them took aim at the sky and began shredding the villains up above to pieces. What surprised Aizawa was the amount of awareness these officers were trained to have with one of the shield bearers intercepting the rain of gore and blood coming down on the hero. Keeping heroes from looking like anything but was a huge part of ESD protocol. After all, if heroes weren't seen as heroes, they would all be out of a job.
"What is all of this?"
A vortex of shadows swept in from the sidelines to rejoin the leader of the insurgency taking place. There were small dents littering the metal case that housed the teleporter's physical body.
"We miscalculated. They must have noticed the hack and sent officers to respond. Shigaraki, we're losing too many men in too little time. We won't have an attack force at this rate."
This was not in the projected scenarios the league foresaw happening as a possible outcome. They knew that the Emergency Security Department had their officers assigned to every major academy in the country. They knew that the security was going to be tight with little to no mistakes allowed if they were to achieve their goals. What they weren't expecting was the ESD officers to respond with outright lethality to their intrusion. The ESD were always reacting to incidents with non lethal methods of restraining and neutralizing villains. They also seemingly didn't do much in the realms of providing their own firepower in comparison to the heroes they assisted. Such an unknown opponent lent too little information to the league of villains to assume anything more from the ESD.
Shigaraki's neck was irritated again. A mad bout of scratching almost tore through the skin as the crazed villain deliberated on the decision to move in with their trump card. There was a serious lack of options at this point; this was no longer about killing All Might, this was now about making it out of there with their lives. He stopped itching long enough to beckon the strange bipedal lizard creative forward. Its brain was exposed from the crown of the skull all the way down to its eyes. Even its teeth were like long pieces of white gravel. Nothing except for the fact that this thing had arms and legs would have clued anybody to the fact that this thing was once human.
"I believe they've rolled out the red carpet for our arrival. It would be rude to not return the sentiment with our very best as well, wouldn't it?"
The queen was now put into play. This was now a gameboard that had become more balanced for both sides.
