The stench of death hung in the air. Even from where All Might was standing he could catch the aroma of blood wafting up towards the entrance. The students outside were all drained of their spirit and looked as though they aged by several decades with how worried they were for their fellow students. A look towards Mina was enough to tell the hero that Izuku was still trapped inside with a few other students. He rushed up the stairs and entered the building to be greeted with the sight of dead bodies and ESD officers gunning down villains en masse. He needed to stop this senseless violence immediately. With one deep breath he declared his presence in the only way he knew would grab everyone's attention.
"Do not worry, for I am here!"
Every remaining villain that was still alive and within earshot looked up at the symbol of peace. His infamous smile wasn't there; the sight of all this death was enough to make the hero himself sick to his stomach.
"Sh-shit! He's here now?!"
"Fuck this, I'm leaving!"
"I'm out!"
Several villains turned tail to flee. Out of the smokescreen came a hand that clamped down on one of the retreating villains faces. The skin of the villain's face turned to brittle flakes in a matter of seconds before crumbling into dust. Shigaraki emerged from the fog with the remaining villains now too scared to move.
"You run, you die. Clear?"
This villain was deranged enough to kill off his own men for simply defecting. All Might knew that the immediate danger was that lizard creature tearing apart Aizawa's security. He leapt straight at the beast and gave the beast a proper heroic welcome.
"Carolina Smash!"
He chopped down with both arms across the monster's chest. All that served to do was get the creature's attention and made it attempt to bear hug All Might. He barely slipped the nasty grasp and went for a stomach punch. It was obvious that this thing wasn't slowing down; even after taking a direct blow from him.
"It's useless. This Nomu has shock absorption, so anything short of slicing at it or ripping it to pieces isn't gonna work. Although, it's not very keen on letting itself be touched by a hero."
Shigaraki was simply gloating in admiration of his weapon. Years of fighting experience with similarly tough enemies from the past allowed the hero to simply readjust his strategy.
"Is that all? Thanks for the advice!"
He voted that breaking the monster's bones or dislocating its neck was going to be the next best thing he could do to end the fight as quickly as possible. He circled the Nomu and lifted the beast by it's waist to drop it behind him in a german suplex. This allowed the remaining officers enough space and time to escort Aizawa to safety. He wanted to help, but there was nothing he could do to assist All Might in a straight brawl. He allowed the officers to escort him back to safety while leaving All Might to deal with the threat.
There was an immense stabbing pain shooting out from All Might's sides after he had suplexed the Nomu. What he felt digging into his muscles felt like fingers. It was easy for the experienced hero to tell without looking that it was the creature he had thrown into the ground that was grasping him from behind. Somehow the Nomu was reaching through some sort of portal and had it's fingers deep into his sides. He could feel the weight shift of the Nomu in his arms match the push and pull he was feeling from his wounds.
"Trying to bury it into the ground? It's as strong as you; it would simply dig itself back out in no time at all."
All Might had to let the Nomu go in order to try to free himself. This thing had far more strength than he had anticipated and was struggling to pry it's fingers out of his sides.
"Good job, Kurogiri. You timed that beautifully."
The shadowy mass returned in time to allow the Nomu a window of opportunity to retaliate and attack the hero from behind.
"Ha, is that it? Not bad for a few first time offenders!"
It was more or less a bluff with how cool All Might was playing it. He was straining the clock on his quirk usage as it were and now he was caught from behind with a wound being agitated where his surgery scar was. He was in a less than ideal situation and everything he was putting on as a front hid a small amount of distress on his part.
"I have to say; I'm not looking forward to flooding my gate with blood and gore, but for you I think I can make an exception. Now that our Nomu has rendered you immobile, all we have to do now is set you halfway through my portal and cut it off. Hopefully, you'll be just that after we're done with you."
Izuku was a little distance away being escorted back to the entrance with Tsuyu and Mineta in tow. The officers were all forming a perimeter around the teens while scanning for any additional threats. Izuku could tell from a distance that All Might was putting on airs to fight off these villains. Earlier he saw the teachers whisper to one another with Thirteen showing three of her fingers. The lack of All Might was enough of a second clue to him that his mentor had used up his hours for the day and was not running on fumes to repel the current threat. Seeing him caught by the villain's combined efforts was enough to send him into a panic and react without thinking once again. One for all activated throughout his body and before the security staff could restrain him; Izuku flew at the immobilized hero with speed not possible without his quirk.
"All Might!"
He couldn't let things end here as they were. There was still so much that he needed to learn from this man. So much gratitude that had yet to be returned for believing in him when so many other people treated him as a write off. This wasn't something he could take lying down.
"K-kid!"
Through gritted teeth the trapped hero tried to dissuade Midoriya from doing anything reckless. It was far too late as a vortex of darkness intercepted Izuku's approach and was certainly going to finish off the boy much like how All Might was to be done in as. Izuku was going through options in his head as to how to combat this quirk as he flew closer and closer to the portal. A direct attack would be quickest, but would risk his life as it were. Going around wasn't a guarantee that he would avoid the user's range either as it was clear that this user was quick on the draw and well practiced with their abilities. If only he had some sort of ranged attack, much like…
"Breaching Charge!"
A powerful explosion aimed right at the center of the portal cleared the way for Izuku. The villain was thrusted back violently and crashed into the concrete with a decent amount of force. Katsuki had quite the dramatic timing in lending his help to the young Midoriya. A little bit's away, the Nomu noticed a biting and painful chill that rendered it's right side completely numb. Shigaraki even had to duck out of the way from Kirishima's attack as the teenager swung at the villain with a clawed hand. The Nomu had no choice but to let All Might go and allow the hero to escape and gain some ground to recover a little.
"So you're here to kill All Might? Scum like you could never kill the symbol of peace."
"Where were you, icecube?"
"Damn, almost had him!"
Todoroki, Bakugou, and Kirishima all stood next to one another as they stared down the remaining villains. Despite their lack of experience, these boys were nothing to laugh at as far as difficult opponents went. All Might was still impressed by Todoroki's control of his frost powers with how he froze the Nomu solid while keeping the hero out of it's range. All it took was one good leap for All Might to free himself of the mutated creature's grasp. The four teenage boys and All Might stared down the remaining trio of attackers with the intent of repelling them from UA Academy. Kurogiri was clearly rattled from Katsuki's attack and was struggling a little to get off the ground. His metal housing was dented from the impact of Bakugou's focused blast and it left the villain slightly disoriented. When the teleporter attempted to get up; Bakugou was there to pin the villain back down with a gauntlet pushing the physical body of Kurogiri to the floor.
"Move and I blow you wide open."
Kirishima couldn't help but see Bakugou as the ideal visage of a sadistic villain standing over the teleporter's figure. If Kurogiri had teeth at this point, he would be gritting them like a belt sander to cheap bolsa.
"You kept retaining a humanoid shape while you were moving around. I guess you're not as intangible as people think you are."
It was such a minor detail that no other hero in the past has been able to pick up on the first time around. This kid just noticed that he was maintaining the shape of a head and torso enough to guess that something physical was there to begin with? A level of instinct like that was surely going to make this one a dangerous enemy in the future.
"You've beaten us while being at max HP. Us villains should be ashamed; regardless if you're just children! Nomu? Wipe out the explosives user. We're done here…"
Sounds of popping bones and cracking ice drew the attention of the heroes as they saw the Nomu stand back up on its own while it's right arm and leg turned to frozen chunks on the floor. What was more shocking was seeing those destroyed body parts suddenly grow back under a disgusting mass of muscles and bones. Izuku couldn't believe it when he saw the arms and legs that were amputated come back fresh and new. The creature even looked down at it's new limbs and admired the lack of pain since the needles that were buried into its right limbs laid useless on the floor with the rest of it's destroyed body.
"I never said that the Nomu had only one ability. This one's hyper regeneration."
All Might just barely caught the creature suddenly bounding towards Katsuki with it's partially healed arm and decking the hero with it's full strength. He barely caught the strike with his own body and was sent flying back some dozen or so meters. Bakugou didn't even know what was going on when the blast from the Nomu's attack sent him flying backwards. If it wasn't for All Might tanking the blow; he was certain he would have been turned into a bloodied stain on the walls.
Fine dust and gravel was still showering down above All Might. The cloud of concrete dust cleared to reveal the hero with his arms up in a cross guard against the Nomu's punch. A few steps leading into an employee entrance was all that kept the hero from slamming into the wall as he had managed to keep his feet on the concrete to slow down his trajectory. All might could see that this wasn't just a dumb beast with a lot of physical strength. It was finely tuned and bred to have the most ideal physical body for combat, and even he had barely recognized the incoming attack for a block of his own.
"... Anything to save a fellow hero, eh? Earlier, when what's-his-face entered the scramble, he went right for me without even thinking. Violence for society instead of against it is automatically heroism, huh? Good, evil; who is society to judge us when it's all the same at the end of the day?! All you do is act as an attack dog for their selfish needs!"
"Such nonsense. You're spouting such idealism when I can see it in your eyes that you're enjoying every bit of this."
"... Am I so transparent? My bad."
This was developing into another fight and the students were primed and ready to engage. They all were making their own assessments over how much of an advantage they were at with five versus three. Only All Might understood how misguided that sort of thinking was.
"No. Get back, everyone. This is my fight and mine alone."
A few of the bewildered students had something to say against the hero's selfless declaration of action.
"You would be in a much worse situation had I not stepped in, All Might."
"All Might, you're bleeding! How much time unti-"
Izuku clasped his mouth shut with a hand at how close he was to revealing the hero's weakness.
"I thank you again, Todoroki-san! Right now I need you all to allow me the space to let me get serious. I am a pro hero, after all!"
Another front to fool the students and villains alike. He was already at the edge and was fading quickly with how much stress he was putting his body through. At most there was less than one minute of power left in his body. These next few moment's were his last on the battlefield today.
"Kurogiri, Nomu; go for All Might. I'll take care of the kids."
The crazed villain lunged straight for the youth standing by with a look of murderous intent focused on his victims. A look of sheer determination and resolution made the villain hesitate for a hair as All Might steeled himself for the next fight coming up right then and there. He was the symbol of peace; and symbols don't fall to their enemies so easily. He would vanquish evil, no matter the challenge.
Shigaraki was about to leap back when a rifle bullet pierced his right leg from the front of his shin. The projectile just missed the bone, but it hit something that made the young man scream in pain. The ESD snipers who were passively looking on this whole time began opening fire again on Shigaraki's position. It was out of All Might's request that they were passively looking on this whole time; but the threat of the student's lives gave them no other choice than to react.
Some Time Earlier
It was clear from the radio chatter coming through the monitor in the armored vehicle that the situation was escalating to a bloodied massacre of villains. Reports of neutralized targets and other status reports on the locations of missing students gave enough of a clear picture for the veteran hero. He knew that this was too much for kids no older than fifteen to witness. He spoke up to request something from the team leader.
"Mr. Commander? May I ask something of you and your men?"
Every person on the truck fell dead silent to allow clear communication between their lead and the hero.
"What would you ask of me, sir?"
"... I need you and your men to stop with the senseless killing. Children are still inside the building, and I cannot excuse the idea of exposing them to such horrors. Please, I beg of you…"
A few moments of silence sat between him and the squad leader while the officer thought about what he should respond with.
"Can you guarantee me the safety of every student there? Can you save those we are both tasked to protect all on your own?"
Such a heavy question for the hero. Was he risking the lives of the students by asking the ESD to stand down as he acted out of his sense of justice and heroism? The transport was just a few moments short of arriving at the destination and All Might had no choice but to answer with what he believed to be the right answer.
Present Time
The villain leaping at the students was enough of a red flag for the ESD to open fire again at the threat. Shigaraki was crawling away from the threat of being shot with the help of Kurogiri providing support by shielding him with a portal that would have sent the bullets back at the officers from above had they not ceased fire. The officers realized blindly firing into the portal generated by the villain would have likely resulted in their own demise. No information escaped anybody sent to respond to the invasion of villains. The comm link was also attached to the analysis department back at the main campus building. They were given information in real time by a secondary team that would compile any and all useful information for the officers actively working to resolve and neutralize the situation. The portal ability of Kurogiri was not an alien concept to any of the trained snipers tasked to neutralize the villains trespassing onto UA property.
It was beyond frustrating for both Shigaraki and Kurogiri to play the defensive position. The ESD weren't letting the villains take advantage of Kurogiri's abilities and Shigaraki was now robbed of his mobility with the bullet wound immobilizing him completely. While the other villains were retreating, All Might and the Nomu were charging at each other with fists primed and ready to deliver punishment to their opponents. The first strike delivered from both sides was a fist-to-fist blow that cracked as loud as one of the snipers rifles above. This was followed up by a blinding flurry of punches that none of the students could keep track of.
All Might inferred that absorption didn't translate to negation. If he could just manage to break that threshold of damage then it may be possible for him to end this fight here and now. It hurt like hell since going fully offensive meant that he needed to allow the Nomu to get it's own blows in while All Might was working at overloading the Nomu's quirk limits.
Izuku could recognize that the hero was putting every bit of effort he had into delivering every punch with maximum force. Each rapid hit felt as powerful as when he blew away the slime user from last year. He was pushing himself beyond what was safe for himself.
"Do you know what a hero does?! They push themselves past anything and everything! They go…"
One arm was cocked back far enough for a single blow strong enough to end the fight. The Nomu got a few good licks in while this was happening, but it didn't matter in the end as All Might followed through and connected the punch all the same.
"Plus Ultra!"
The Nomu went straight through the reinforced dome that encompassed the Disaster Simulation Arena. A single punch that transformed the powerful Nomu into a projectile sent it into the deep forest behind the academy grounds. All the other students sent to the sidelines were staring in awe at how much power All Might had unloaded into the seemingly indestructible Nomu. None of them had the trained reaction to see everything that had just transpired. They were made aware that the world they were aiming for was perhaps farther than they had first assessed it was. Only Izuku felt the widened gap of expectation versus reality as nothing more than his everyday existence.
"... Hm, five would have been enough in the past."
All Might stood tall and proud with the familiar smile he was known for adorning his chiseled face. A Massive amount of steam was emanating from his body while he stood with his fist up and proud.
"I guess three hundred should be more than enough for now."
He was out of time. Anything else requiring his attention needed to be resolved now.
"How about you? Ready to go?"
Shigaraki was itching at his neck while staring daggers into the hero standing victorious over his retreating form.
"You cheating bastard…"
UA Academy DSA Mountain Area
"Hands up! Try anything and he dies!"
Momo and Kyoka were barely able to get Momo into another shirt right before the villain took Kaminari as a hostage. The poor boy was completely unaware of his surroundings after pushing his quirk to its limits. A villain had somehow burrowed himself through the hard packed sandstone and snuck up on the one vulnerable member of the trio. His exposed arms and shoulders revealed a number of skin tags the size of grapes littering his skin.
"Kaminari!"
"Dammit, we got careless…"
Kyoka and Momo were standing some distance away with both their hands in the air with the braindead Kaminari serving as the villain's boon. His fingernails were emanating a significant amount of electrical discharge for how close he was holding the boy to them.
"I'd rather not kill this kid since I'm an electric user myself. That doesn't mean I won't kill him, though."
Such a shallow reason for his hesitation to injure and murder children. From what Kyoka and Momo could gather; it was likely this villain was able to burrow into the earth through some means and was waiting for his opportunity to strike back.
"Now start walking towards me one at a time! No funny business and hands where I can see them!"
This guy was paranoid and for good reason. Both girls were searching for a way to buy time in their heads; it was Kyoka who was just a hair faster than Momo in coming up with a plan.
"Gotta say, you electric-types are some tough opponents. Kaminari hates it when he starts to lose any sort of game."
To Momo, this was some rather random information. Kyoka never talked about Kaminari in any of their chats for the past few days and she would never see the two hang out with each other at school either. They were practically strangers; so what brought this on out of the brunette?
"You didn't even have to resort to villany to make a killing! A lot of well paying jobs offer a killer pay for people like you. What's with the whole villain angle? Makes a girl wonder…"
Momo could see out of the corner of her eye the ear jack reaching down towards Kyoka's boots. If she was able to get her ear jack plugged into the specialized boots in her costume there was a chance they could end this whole situation with minimal losses. Just as Momo noticed Kyoka's rather awkward behavior; the villain recognized that there was something wrong going on here.
"Do you honestly think I'm that stupid? Show me those earjacks now."
She had no other choice but to relinquish control to the villain one hundred percent.
"You two come with me, then maybe I'll let this kid go. Seriously, UA needs to train their student's in hostage situations better."
This was scary enough as it was. What were they gonna go through if they complied? There was still the lack of guarantee that their classmate would be spared even if they were to comply. Too many factors were working against the two teenagers for them to make a reasonable judgment call.
"So, what'll it be? You, or hi-"
The villain was cut off with a bullet passing through his head from ear to ear. Both teenagers were still unable to understand what just happened as the villain began to stumble and struggle to stay on his feet. Kaminari was let back down onto the ground while the villain tried to wildly flail and defend himself against an invisible enemy that nobody there could see. This wild flailing was cut short with another loud crack and splattering the ground to the villains right with another speeding rifle round ending the villain's struggling. His body fell flat on it's back with blood pooling out of its open head wounds. A split second later there were ESD officers pouring out from the sides of the area with weapons and equipment galore.
"Clear! Failing biometrics detected. Monitoring for any possible threats."
Some of the riflemen kept their eyes on the dead body until they were certain that it was going to rot as a corpse. Other armed officers kept their eyes out for any other possible villains attempting to approach with hostile intent. Two medics accompanying the officers dressed in white observed the disoriented Kaminari immediately. They assessed that the boy only needed one of them to attend to his condition with the other medic free to check up on the other two students. The medic approached and knelt down in front of the two girls while assessing Momo first for any sort of significant injury or compromise in mental condition.
"Hello there, My name is Dr. Tsugumi. Can you tell me if you've been hurt or not?"
The gentle male voice helped coax out honest answers from both the teenagers. Neither girl was harmed too badly, save for a few bumps and scratches. He repeated the question for Kyoka and after he made his professional diagnosis he gave the all clear for the girls to be escorted out of the area with the ESD officers present to keep them safe. Kaminari was already in the stretcher that was used during the team battle exercise. The hardened fibers were cradling the boy safely with the two officers carrying him with little difficulty. These officers were not ones to relish in the macabre, and as such they placed the body that was shot in the head into a body bag out of the student's direct line of sight. It was such a surreal sight to see a man shot to death right in front of them that it was easy for these teens to look past the incident with little trouble.
UA Academy DSA Entrance
"H-how? How?! You've been weakened. How is this possible? My Nomu should have easily taken you out…"
Still crawling away was Shigaraki Tomura, sporting a painful bullet wound in his leg. Once he got to a nearby set of steps; he was able to finally pull himself up onto his other leg. The same consistent itch in his neck returned as he tried to make sense of event's here.
"We. We prepared for this! You were supposed to be weaker. They weren't supposed to be here so soon. How? Why?"
"Are we gonna stand here all day, or are we gonna finish this?"
This faceoff was far too intense for any of the other students to interfere with. Everyone except Izuku resigned to let All Might finish the fight while they retreated to safety. Only the young Midoriya could see that this challenge issued by All Might was nothing more than a bluff. The copious amounts of white steam and smoke was a tell that All Might was reaching his limits in maintaining his enhanced form.
"Well, come at me!"
Shigaraki took the challenge to heart and attempted to inch closer to the stoic hero while nursing his injured leg. The also injured portal user was struggling to keep up a consistent barrier between Shigaraki and the rest of the gunmen Posted above. There was a chance that Shigaraki could have landed a blow upon All Might, had it not been for the second round of rifle bullets puncturing his other leg and right arm from the side that Kurogiri didn't shield Shigaraki from.
The squad that was retrieving Momo, Kyoka, and Kaminari were close to extracting when they saw the identified threat approach All Might with hostile intentions. They were also made aware of Shigaraki's quirk and didn't hesitate in physically disabling the young man. As trained marksmen armed with semi-automatic high caliber weapons, they secured the emotionally volatile enemy from the opposite side and forced the last villain able enough to move around to the floor. Kurogiri had no choice but to get himself and Shigaraki out of the area with their tails tucked between their legs. Losing over one hundred men to a measly gain of five ESD officers stung like hell. Things were far from over. This was their start and it was only going to get worse for the heroes of Japan's society.
"Next time, All Might! Next time, you'll die by my hands; mark my words…"
This boy was not one to be taken lightly. The hero could recognize that the young man fully intended on following through with their threats of death. It was just a question of when and where for All Might. There was the arrival of the other instructors to consider as the heroes arriving assisted in cleaning up the mess left behind from the bloodied battle.
The teachers were greeted with the sight of dozens upon dozens of dead villains littering the DSA grounds. It was made clear to them recently that the ESD had protocols when heroes were found lacking in presence to resolve issues. To actually see the unadulterated destruction of this department in full effect gave quite a bit of context as to what the protection of those in need of it meant to the ESD. Nobody could speak up against their barbaric methinds since they weren't there to even provide support to any capacity. Yet, the officers still bowed and gave their respect to the heroes who arrived. Not a single officer there raised a hand against the heroes, even after losing a few of their own to these villains.
Helicopters were called in by the lead ESD officer managing the tech floor after it was confirmed that cleanup was necessary. Tankards of oxidation solutions to help in removing the blood staining the cement were called in through emergency channels. It wasn't usually the case for urgent lines of communication to be used to call in for industrial cleaning; when the school and the associated students were revealed there was no hesitation from the head offices to send in the top disposal operatives available.
"All Might, are you ok?!"
Kirishima was always a kind soul who was easy to talk to out of his nature of being a nice person. Izuku realized too late that Kirishima was about to see All Might in a physically compromising state with the steam and smoke starting to thin slightly. A pair of ESD officers stopped the boy in his tracks and escorted him towards the exit. He didn't object as the officers didn't treat the boy with any sort of rough nature and were completely reasonable. All Might was able to breathe a sigh of relief with the arrival of additional ESD medical staff coming to his aid and shielding his physical appearance with portable curtains and visual shields. While being prepped for transport, one of the officers was debriefing All Might for any sort of useful information to be recorded for their assessment files.
"... What about the leader? Anything you can describe about him?"
A pregnant pause while the medics moved his limp body into a transport for further medical attention.
"He's unhinged, but intelligent and quick on his feet. Honestly, these people are nothing short of dangerous."
Bar Undisclosed
Both Shigaraki and Kurogiri stumbled onto the floor back at their home base as they were both sporting some rather serious injuries. Shigaraki had bullet wounds rittling his arms and legs as well as a few that skirted dangerously close to fatal on his torso. Kurogiri was still shaken and disoriented from the attack he suffered from the explosion quirk user. It was a physical miracle that the shade was even able to teleport at all after what had happened.
"... Gh. Why? Not only All Might, but the Nomu as well?"
Blood steadily trickled from the wounds that immobilized the villain on the floor.
"He's not weak, He's still just as powerful. You were wrong, master…"
"I was not."
A voice coming out of a monitor screen replied to Shigaraki's accusations. The voice kept elaborating on its take on events passed.
"We simply jumped the gun. He's still too powerful for us to kill right now, but we will succeed next time. Regardless, where is the Nomu now?"
It was Kurogiri who responded this time.
"Lost, unfortunately. I couldn't search for it with my own physical body being as damaged as it was. The ESD will likely dispose of it when they find it… Speaking of which, they're response time was half of what we expected. Was the information bad?"
"No. This department is simply an enemy we have underestimated through and through. We can no longer treat them as we do the police; we must tread carefully from here on out."
"... Master, there was a boy back there. His quirk. It was weak, but it was much like All Might's. Too similar, in fact."
The voice through the monitor was silent for a few moments as it digested what his pupil just shared with him.
"... I see. For now, recover and regroup our numbers. This was a valuable lesson for us to learn if we are to turn this country over on its head. You are the symbol of our freedom. Do not worry for the Nomu; we shall recover it eventually."
This sentiment was far more naive than the voice could have imagined.
Earlier That Morning
Haru pulled up to the entrance gate to the wildlife preserve next to UA Academy. It was a little early with the sun just peeking over the horizon behind him. He pulled up to the security booth with the necessary licensing for him to do what it was he wanted to do here. The window slid open to reveal a tired looking security guard who motioned for Haru to give him the IDs necessary to let him through.
"... Okay, looks like you're here for some boar hunting; is that correct?"
"It is."
The officer scanned in the forms of ID one after another and waited for the approval to let him into the area. An alert notified Haru's legal presence here and gave the all good to allow the man into the territory to hunt a rambunctious young male boar terrorizing the forest. Haru took his leave and arrived at the reserves parking lot to then go over his bow and arrow setup for hunting the juvenile he was going to use to feed his clients and personal acquaintances with. A compound bow without a release trigger was a rather odd option since these bows were optimal with the small release device. He inspected for possible malfunctions and left for the forest after seeing no compromises in the mechanisms of his hunting tool.
Several Hours Later
There wasn't much to the art of hunting if one was to oversimplify it. It mostly consisted of waiting and being mentally aware during that whole time. It was a craft that rewarded patience, much like golf.
Above in a taller tree was Haru nestled on a branch with his hunter camo doing much of the work for him in concealing his silhouette. Hours of waiting and the juvenile boar was still not revealing itself just yet. So much time and it was still just a waiting game for his opportunity to even take a shot at the wild animal. He still kept waiting without wavering. His opportunity eventually came as the boar in question came up to the small stream that ran through the boars territory. It was young and it would have begun to develop into a healthy adult if it had been allowed to continue living in this forest. Haru knocked an arrow silently and drew back when the boar began to dip its head down into the water for a morning drink.
Seasonal behaviors often were the greatest influence for wild animals that acted aggressively during certain parts of the year. This particular boar was actively overeating and leaving little to nothing for the other wildlife to consume. It knew it was strong and it ate as it pleased without any sort of natural predator to regulate it so far. Such ignorance was going to cost this particular boar it's life. Haru drew back the arrow and aimed for the one spot he knew would drop the animal with one shot. The arrow was a razor sharp hollow broadhead that was ideal for penetrating thicker animals and damaging internal organs with it's penetration.
A few seconds was all the boar had before Haru released the arrow and sank the arrowhead into the ground opposite the animal. A moment where the boar seized up was the last movement it made as a living creature before falling to the riverbank limp and dead. The arrow cleaved the boar's spine from the base of it's skull and severed it's entire nervous system with one swift blow. A successful meal for the day was enough for Haru to feel quite good about his kill.
Coming up to his prey revealed the healthy speciment that he had claimed for his next culinary masterpiece. He hefted the boar upon his shoulders and carried it back to the clearing he scouted for himself some time ago in the morning.
An Hour Later
The pig was fully skinned and dismantled with its organs sitting in one bucket and the non edible bits in another. Bleeding the carcass was the only time consuming part of the whole process; the remaining removal of skin and organs was an old hat to the self sufficient chef. The whole thing was just about ready to go with the transportation back to his van being the last obstacle between him and making a delicious pork based meal. He was packing up the last of his wildlife gear when he felt something flying through the air towards the area he was residing in. Looking towards the sound revealed a black speck sailing across the sky and crashing into the earth a few clicks south from where he set up his dismantling station.
The thing that crash landed a little ways from him came from the direction of the UA Disaster Simulation Arena; that fact coupled with the knowledge that the class of 1-A was there today for a lesson in disaster relief sent a small shiver of worry down Haru's spine. He left his phone in the van as he was resigned to the idea that today of all days was the ideal time to let himself detach from reality and relax. That wasn't entirely a poor decision on his part, it just happened to be horribly mistimed with what was happening around the time he had disconnected from the outer world. There were two decisions that Haru could make at that moment; either he head back to his van and run full steam ahead to the UA infirmary to check for possible injured students, or go check for himself what had caused a crash landing nearby his current location.
His trust in the ESD was not unwarranted as he was certain they were prepared to combat the worst of the worst conditions presented to them. He wouldn't have trusted them with the care of those students had he thought otherwise. He grabbed the quiver of arrows anong with his bow to go and see what it was that landed nearby.
A Few Minutes Later
When Haru arrived at the crash site, it was a bit anticlimactic since the creature that made the deep trench at the impact sight was just sitting there upright not doing anything. Knowing better than to just go off of his sight, Haru could sense the violent nature of the creature by simply deducing from around him how this thing got here. It was unfamiliar and was seemingly unharmed from it's crash landing. That told him that whatever sent it flying either did little to no damage, or that it healed already after it made its landing. Few teachers in UA possessed this sort of raw power, save for one he was personally familiar with.
One fact after another compiled themselves in Haru's mind to help him draw the conclusion that this thing was fighting All Might and was sent here by an attack of his. He was also aware that the hero was cutting his time down shorter and shorter with each passing day shaving off a few minutes here and there. This thing was dangerous if it had been fighting with the empowered hero and was now practically unscathed after the fact.
He approached the creature with the intent to test the waters if it was even dangerous to begin with. He took long strides towards the currently passive creature to get a better look at it. He was a few meters away when he stopped and just took in the sight of the rather grotesque monster sitting in front of him. It tilted it's head to gaze at Haru with one eye while Haru continued to stare back at it. Both of them just stared into the others eyes while an underlying tone of hostility began to mount up further and further towards a very low breaking point.
It was the Nomu that broke the staring match with a wild haymaker from it's right arm. It's instinct told it to defend itself against this individual. Now more beast than sentient, it followed the patterns of an apex predator than it did a human. The attack was sudden and powerful with its weight being expertly shifted in delivering the maximum amount of force.
Rather than feeling the satisfying resistance of punching something, it actually was confused to feel a lack of anything coming from it's arm. A thud from nearby drew it's attention. It took a few moments for the Nomu to focus it's stare at the thing that produced the sound that caught it's attention. It was even able to recognize the item as something painfully familiar. Painful in the sense that it was it's arm severed from below the shoulder now sitting limp and detached from its body. Watching the bloody stump gush a few spurts before it's healing factor kicked in triggered the Nomu to retaliate several times harder than before.
"I gotta say, this isn't something I was expecting this morning…"
Haru's knife was out and was wet with crimson; along with his hunter garbs as well as his face. He turned to the Nomu with a malicious glint in his eyes. Watching the creature produce another limb to replace the recently severed one didn't dissuade the hunter from what he had planned for the exotic creature now in his presence.
"I wonder; how many times can you do that little trick of yours?"
The sharpened tool was raised in his grasp as he took a stance to take on the creature directly.
"Why don't we find out here and now?"
Another roar and lunge from the mindless beast ended the one sided discussion. It was now ready to kill again once more.
Some Time Later
The ESD officers sent to retrieve the Nomu creature were all converging on the crash site with visual aid being provided from the department office back at the central building. There were clear signs that the creature was still very much active as there were signs of movement where the Nomu had landed. Over fifteen officers were closing in on the location with weapons hot and ready to go when they came up to the treeline. They all took up positions as the squad leader instructed them silently with a formation that every officer was familiar with and prepared to engage the target. The countdown was short and to the point; what made everybody there stop and do a double take was the sight of somebody they knew of well already addressing the issue at hand.
Nailed to a tree was the Nomu; from its neck it hung suspended from the ground with it's arms and legs missing. It looked as though it's throat was made into a pin cushion for the multitude of arrows keeping it suspended off the ground. It could only pitifully choke and twitch as it's tormentor just kept staring at it while he stood soaked in the mutated creature's blood.
"Twenty Seven. I wonder how much more you've got left in you…"
The exposed stumps of it's limbs began to bubble and swell with new limbs about to sprout out from the vacant stumps. It was halfway successful in producing it's new appendages before those were sliced clean off by the man standing in front of it's tortured frame. The officers surrounded the area as they were unable to identify the exact identity of this unknown entity.
"Sir! Put your weapon down and place your hands upon your head immediately!"
That wasn't the mystery figure's response. He instead said something that made the entire ESD presence there recognize who it was that was standing before them.
"Took you long enough. I was starting to get bored."
Turning around was the face of Nakamura Haru. His hair was hidden under a wilderness themed bucket hat with a significant amount of blood soaking his body through and through. The Nomu couldn't even muster up a scream anymore with how many times it got its appendages lopped off by this maniac pinning it to this tree. The team charged with capturing the creature were all scrambling to bow to the white haired figure that had apprehended and immobilized their intended target.
"Nakamura-san! We apologize for our insolence! If there was-"
"Stop it. I'm guessing this thing was what you wanted, right?"
Haru waved the knife in the direction of the creature still hanging by its throat through the means of multiple arrows piercing it's throat. The officers were still baffled at the sight of the creature being tortured so one-sidedly by a man that technically didn't even possess his own quirk. Without context, one would think that the man slicing away at this creature was the villain. More apparent was the multitude of arms, legs, and blood that draped over a significant amount of the surrounding area. How long was he here just chopping away at this monster with just his knife?
"Uh, yes sir. We were about to apprehend the creature when you-"
"Don't worry about that. Contact Terasawa Industries and tell them to prepare for a dissection. Get Dr. Michael Furguson to take a look at the specimen I'm about to send his way."
What happened next was something that none of the officers there would forget for their entire lives. Haru ripped the Nomu free from the tree it was pinned to with a few of the arrow shafts still lodged in its neck. Some of the arrows were still pinned into the tree as Haru yanked the mutated freak of nature off of the tree it was prisoner to. He had grasped the creature by it's exposed brain and shoved it into a slumped posture to begin cutting away at the space between its brain and its skull.
It screeched and cried out like a banshee as Haru kept using the edged tool to sever its brain from the body. The arms suddenly spawned in an accelerated moment of regeneration, though the appendages still lacked skin. A final act of desperation as it began to mercilessly swing at Haru, who was still cutting away at it's brain in order to free it from it's exposed prison. Some of the officers hesitated to swoop in to assist Haru before they noticed that none of the blows were actually affecting him as he kept cutting away.
The powerful blows transformed into decent strikes, then average punches, and so on and so forth until the creature's arms fell limp to its sides as Haru severed the brain stem with one final swipe of the hunting knife. Many of the officers were present during the villain raid of the UA training center; how it was that All Might struggled so much while Haru cut out this creature's brain with ease was a mystery to them.
Haru plopped the brain that still had the creature's eyes housed in the organ into the squad leader's arms. The officers were stunned at the display of sadistic violence before the lead officer began calling in an extraction for the remains of the Nomu creature. In their usual efficient manner the ESD cleaned up the area and followed their issued orders to the letter. Every chunk and sliver of the creature's remains was contained and shipped off to one of the most prestigious research institutions in the country with one of the world leading bioengineers soon to arrive and provide his assessment as to what on earth these mutants were.
"Now if you excuse me, I've got some pork that's in need of seasoning."
The remains of the pig Haru expertly dissected was well out of sight at the original campground. He was already behind schedule and was nervous that the quick brine he wanted to perform may not be possible if he didn't hurry. This was a surprise he wanted to be a reward for those who he wanted to spoil.
