The Nomu was hovering in front of Endeavor while looking at him like an animal does before it attacks its prey. The wound in its chess was starting to close up around the charred flesh that was exposed without skin. Based on the report that he read on the first Nomu case, this thing was likely built the same. Having to deal with something that had an arsenal of powers to choose from gave him an uneven playing field to work with right out the gate.
His thought process was cut short when the Nomu went in for an attack. Seeing it do so made him think that it was a close range type, so he used his ranged hell spider to create some spacing to lead the Nomu away from the building. Focused jets of fire pierced the flesh and bones of the Nomu with ease, but it wasn't stopping. It slammed Endeavor in the chest and tried to slam him into the building when the hero suddenly felt something start cradling him and push the attack in a different direction.
He was up in the air while the Nomu's arm was still stretching onwards. The growth of the limb stopped eventually, though its length was easily long enough to be as tall as a high rise by itself. Hawk had used his feathers to create a sort of ramp to redirect the direction of the slam while using another bunch of feathers to pull at Endeavor at the same time.
There was a shit ton of weight behind the attack, much to Hawk's chagrin. Those feathers rejoined the others as he flew to join Endeavor in the fight. Now high above, Endeavor went for a full on geyser attack that enveloped the Nomu in a column of molten hot fire that the Nomu escaped with its burnt flesh starting to grow back. While it was growing itself back, Hawk got busy with freeing Endeavor by loping its stretched arm that held Endeavor in place. The remaining strength in the severed arm's tendrils gave the hero some grief in getting out of the Nomu's death grip.
"Wow, no thank you?"
"Shut up! It's coming!"
It was out for blood and ready to tear something apart. Flying towards Endeavor, the Nomu noticed that there were some black things coming for it out of the corner of its eye. All it saw was an annoyance that was getting in the way of its hunt. Several white pustules were sprouting from its flesh before they all were spat out towards the ground.
Before they could even touch down, there were some feathers that were shot off from Hawk's wings that addressed that issue as well. The bubbles were all hit before they could touch down. Each feather struck the white masses with enough speed to tear them apart with the force behind the projectile. Watching the skill of this young hero made the Nomu start to shift its priorities.
"The strongest… Is you!"
Exasperated was the best way Hawk would describe how he was feeling right now. He armed himself when he began to feel its eyes on him. Endeavor was not a dull man by any means. It was obvious to him that the Nomu was starting to shift its interest away from him. This thing possessed the ability to be sentient and make decisions based on some basic parameters. Right now, Hawk was seen to be stronger than he was. That was not meant to be.
Oddly, Endeavor wasn't angry out of his pride. Since he started to sprout a conscience, there was a shift in what he was starting to think about these days. His mind drifted back to the family he originally had to fuel his aspirations to become the best of the best. To be powerful, whether it was through himself or someone he made.
What he did had to have meant something. To go through all that without compensation was unthinkable. Having nothing to show for all those years of putting them all through hell was unacceptable. With a charge of his already overheated body, he put everything he had into this one attack to end the fight. The people below were all panicking with the news broadcasting on the scene. An immense amount of heat was coming off of Endeavor that made even the news crew uncomfortable. With everything he had, the Nomu was engulfed in a single blast of fire.
"Prominence Fire!"
In a moment of quick thinking, it was rather more focused to get the critical component of itself out of the way. Stretching to the side, its head was thrown out of the way while the rest of its body was atomized.
Heat had accumulated in his body from that last attack to the point of being dangerous. Staying in the air was starting to become difficult enough to control at this point. There was no time to react to the sudden spears that were shot out of its body. On top of ripping through the right side of his face, there was the second lengthened piece of itself that went through his abdomen. Going straight through the abdomen like that was not a good thing in the slightest.
This was all on a live feed that revealed the possible end of the current country's number one hero. Many places fell dead silent at the sight of their hero falling to this creature that was seemingly invincible. Eri back at UA was thankfully too busy doing the housework her dad did regularly with ESD officers dressed in white uniforms while still wearing those tinted gas masks. Other households weren't as lucky in watching Endeavor fall the way he did.
He plummeted to the ground and slammed into a slab of the road that was created when he used his geyser of flame to attack the Nomu. He fell unconscious.
Shoto was stunned at the sight of his father lying at the feet of a killer Nomu. His other classmates, including Izuku and Bakugou, were concerned for the teen as he stood there catatonic to the rest of the world. After his father finally became self aware. To watch as he was now bleeding out through a fatal wound on the road. To watch this man die when he was trying to forgive him.
Earlier
The crowds were trying to escape while the ESD were arriving on the scene to clear out the scene while checking for any possible civilians left nearby. The area blocked off was for the immediate danger. It was then that an individual caught wind of the incident. As it were, he was already on his way to that spot regardless.
Shifting gears on the twelve cylinder he was driving, they rushed off to find a spot out of sight nearby the incident. He really was not happy now that this was happening.
Present Time
There was a massive crown trying to get closer to the conflict. ESD were keeping the crowds at a decent distance while the temperature was starting to cool down. Newscasters were doing their best to inform the public on the current events developing as the ESD Medics were about to move in once the Nomu moved away far enough. All hope seemingly fell upon Hawk before the hero noticed something come out of a nearby alleyway.
Someone was too close to the incident. About to move down to stop them, Hawk could feel something about this person that wasn't anything a civilian would be capable of. Appearing between the Nomu and the unconscious hero suffering from a fatal wound was a person with some sort of black glass helmet. It was encasing their entire head and made it impossible to identify the person. Their clothing was remarkably normal in comparison to the dramatic situation going on.
As the Nomu was taking its leave to find another stronger opponent, the pricking sensation on the back of its neck made it start to turn its elongated neck towards the source of the sensation. A new enemy was there for it to fight. Slowly, it began to turn as it stalked and lumbered at its newest adversary.
Broadcasts were going haywire with the most recent development at the scene. While the camera's were focusing on the new character, they turned around and then looked back at the Nomu after what was less than a minute.
Rei was watching with her eyes glued to the screen of the hospital TV. Other patients and staff were watching on with shock over the unexpected development. She was paralysed with shock by something else she noticed on screen when the camera's zoomed in.
Three Years Ago
"... Wow. I love it."
Haru's lack of excitement was not a reflection of his love for the gift that Rei had gotten for him. A green leather jacket that was almost like silk to the touch. He didn't even need to wear it to know that it would fit perfectly. He was speechless with a look in his eyes Rei wanted to see.
"Go on, try it on."
Both Rei and Nakamura were sitting outside of the hospital at a bench looking at the greenery nearby. With a speedy flourish, the jacket he was wearing was swapped with the one she got for him. Nothing about the article of clothing was average. All of it was just right for a man like him. Minimal design while looking clean with anything that he would wear. Comfort and durability he never skimped money on. Most of all, it was from her.
"... Rei?"
"Yes?"
They looked at each other as Haru spoke his honest opinion on the gift.
"This will only be worn on special occasions. It's perfect."
She had to turn the other way with the blush she had with hearing such an endearing compliment. All she did was find the jacket, so it was a little embarrassing to be so honestly thanked for a gift.
"Seriously. I love it."
For now, the jacket remained on for Rei to admire Haru. It looked even better than she imagined. It was a good day for them to just chat about the happenings with her kids and other such mundane topics. After talking about something funny that Haru ran into the other day that left Rei in tears, he asked her a question that she still remembers presently.
"... If I were to save your husband's life, would you tell me that you love me?"
Looking into Nakamura's eyes after hearing such a strange request told Rei Haru was completely serious. She knew how much he hated her husband. There were times before she was admitted where Nakamura was clutching something to use against the man as they got heated against each other. A man like Haru was someone who never compromised on anything. He hated Endeavor. End of story.
To see the honesty in his eyes was a bit scary. Not that he was dishonest, he was rarely one to hide something from her, but it was as if he was asking for permission. Something so impossible and away from what he would do as a person that was just a chance. A sliver. Barely meeting the definition of hope.
"You're such a silly man."
Trying to lift the mood between them only served to confirm her suspicions about how serious Haru was being. Her left hand was resting on the backing of the bench they were sitting on, which was now being held by Nakamura's right one.
"If I return your husband to you alive and well enough; will you love me?"
What she said still was something she couldn't believe. It was as if she was possessed when she answered him. Though… When her thoughts drifted back to that moment, she rarely found herself feeling regret for what happened.
Present Time
A man in blue jeans, white shirt, and in the very same jacket she remembered in detail for all the weeks she put into finding the perfect one; was being worn by the man in the black helmet. A monster that left her husband bleeding to death and there was someone to stand between them and the man bleeding onto the asphalt. Many others could speculate as long as they want; someone she knew to be a man of his word was making good on their promise.
Something was in their hand when they came out. They flicked their wrist to reveal an extendable stick. A stick that four teenagers who were looking recognized. It was an almost exact copy of the one to save all of them from a threat that almost killed them.
Another rod was produced in the left one with another flick. Without another word between them, both the Nomu and this mystery Character charged at each other and clashed. The angle wasn't good for the cameras, so there was some readjustment of location necessary. Recapturing the best angle still didn't help the visibility of the action by much. NOt due to visibility, but the action itself.
Nothing but the most experienced of combat hardened veterans could comment on what exactly was going on. The first attack that connected was the masked stranger's directly into the Nomu's outstretched hand. The joints gave away and left most of the joints detached from one another. A hand wasn't going to slow down the man aiming for a vital point on the creature. He closed the gap and started to attack in the flurry that was occuring now.
People looking on in awe were speechless to what they saw. What was essentially a creature designed to kill the number one hero in the country was now being fought off by some person with two sticks.
There was a significantly different strategy the stranger took to control the fight versus Endeavor. Trapping its arm, he twisted and yanked hard enough to crack the bones and snap the forearm. Instead of letting the arm go or tearing off the arm; He kept the arm separated while following the movements of the Nomu so that it couldn't heal the arm. This loophole in its quirk was being abused so that the one beating the Nomu mercilessly could control the fight. Another desperate attack was when the Nomu sprouted several tentacle-like limbs to get rid of the thing pulling its broken arm apart. All these limbs were immediately cut off when Hawk descended to assist in defeating the Nomu.
When that happened, the stranger then used its right baton to snap three more places in its arm so that they could entangle their arm into the Nomu's with another twist of its far more flexible arm. An additional three points of movements would certainly help with that sort of task.
Using the body of the Nomu itself allowed the masked stranger to kick off of the creature hard enough to kick off of to tear away the damaged limb. Now it was the Nomu who was bleeding on the floor.
Behind Hawk and the stranger were ESD Medics stabilizing Endeavor. Their equipment stabilized the man, but they needed to get him to their medical facility to help treat him immediately. They loaded him into a medic transport vehicle to get him the procedures to save his life done immediately.
While the Nomu was staggering to its feet, the other two combatants did something rather interesting. Hawk suddenly took a pose of some sort that looked as though he was going to use some sort of fighting style. It was a low stance that had one arm cured over the head while presenting the leading arm ahead of his side stance. A sharpened feather sword was in each hand as he did so. The stranger did something that was the part of this whole affair that confused the public.
Without prompt, the disguised stranger mirrored Hawk's stance. His lead arm was the right arm to create a position that put these two back to back. Whatever was about to happen was going to be more than anything the people of Japan could comprehend.
The head that was covered in some sort of shroud peeled back to expose its face; an exposed brain with eyes haphazardly stuck into the top of it. Its mouth split the pinkish matter to expose a mouthful of teeth too freakishly long to even be called teeth. More like enameled shanks over twelve centimeters long.
From there, it was incomprehensible to the public watching. Neither what Hawk or what the stranger was comprehensible to the average user. One audience member who was watching from UA was none other than someone who studied possible ways to enhance their own power many years ago. All Might was looking on and recognized the stance these two men took to start the next fight. There was no mistaking it; Hawk and this man were using Krabi-Krabong.
Another dead martial art that employed the use of weapons was a thai style that encouraged swift strikes with a set of matching weapons that struck their target in rapid succession. Weapons like short swords were never looked back upon after the era of quirks. Now it was a style that was giving the two fending off the Nomu a speed advantage as they worked in tandem to strike at the Nome over and over while slowly shaving it down before it could heal itself. On top of the striking, the feathers that Hawk could spare were raining down on the Nomu in a nonstop hell of constant punishment.
It was more of a slow press than an immediate victory for the advancing party. Their speed and power kept shaving away at the Nomu as it screamed its lungs out. Another stretch of its neck wasn't possible with Hawk's feathers punishing it from all directions. All it could do was become a tiny chunk in the middle of the road that was crushed with a dual slam from both Hawk and the stranger. A decent cloud of dust was formed that obscured the sight of what had happened. Time was all that could remedy the visibility issue as the dust settled.
Standing where the Nomu previously was, there was Hawk. Sitting and being exhausted over all the effort he put in killing the Nomu. He just sat there for a few moments until he noticed all the unwanted publicity. His time sitting down was cut short when the realization set in. It was just him just exiting the scene by walking away through an alleyway without another word.
Nothing else. For the most part, it was an anticlimactic fight. The newscaster was even confused enough to stumble over their words. For the most part, it was a fight that left people more bewildered than happy or angry.
Though for another, it was a fight to remember forever. Rei knew what it was she said to Nakamura when he asked for her love. The condition of what their connection would require.
If you save my husband; the time I have when he is gone is yours to do with as you want with it.
I'll be yours.
He really did it. Rei cried into her hands as she was torn over how she felt. All because of that brutish idiot. That stupid, stubborn, pigheaded, and foolhearted man. A man that would do the one thing in this world he hated the most for her to look at him.
