"..or…ora..et p…." A voice spoke as I returned to conciousness.
"Wha-" I said as my eyes slowly opened. I took a look at my surroundings. I found myself waking up on a couch in the middle of a rather quaint living room. A clock on the wall told me the time was about noon and a tide clock told me it was becoming high tide. I could see an open window on the other side of the room. Sitting up I looked around.
"What happened?"
"You got lucky, that's what." A familiar gruff voice spoke, as I looked at a chair I hadn't noticed. An older looking well built man sat reading a newspaper of some kind. "Was coming back from a fishing run when I noticed you and that other friend of yours out in the water. She seemed able to swim and made it to my boat pretty easily. You though, not so much." He said with a grunt. "Had to haul your ass up and out before you went under." He said as he turned to the next page.
I looked at the man who had apparently saved my life. "T-thank you, my name is Liam...but just call me Sora. It's nice to meet you..uh" I realized I didn't know the man's name.
"Cob, Jackson Cob" He said not bothering to look up, as he continued to read. "No need to thank me either, couldn't just leave you to drown since I spotted you."
I nodded, as I started to get up. "So, any idea where that friend of mine is?" I asked as I put on my jacket that had dried out by now.
"She went with my daughter to pick some things up for dinner. You two don't have anywhere to stay here now do ye?" Cob asked, giving me a side eyed look.
"Uhhhh…well I..no I guess not." I said, scratching the back of my head sheepishly.
Cob sighed, closing his newspaper. "Thought not, well you're not staying here for free. If you're gonna stay here you're gonna work for your meal." He said as he got up and exited the room. "Meet me out back."
I slowly went to follow him before I decided to see what he was reading. My face paled as I saw what I read.
"Fire Fist Ace Join's Whitebeard!"
All at once reality hit me like a ton of bricks. I was in One Piece…I was in fucking One Piece and by the looks of things this was before Luffy sets out from the East Blue. I turned to ask the old man what island I was on, before I remembered I was supposed to meet him out back.
I quickly followed him, and found him with an axe and some logs on a stump outside.
Cob looked at me and said. "I assume you can chop wood right?" He said as he got started.
I nodded and saw the other axe beside him, and went to grab it, before I too started chopping wood. It was a bit of a workout since I hadn't been active lately, but it still felt good to do something to help the one who had saved my life. After awhile I started to ask the obvious question.
"So where am I exactly?" I asked the old man who had decided to take me and my friend in. The town looked vaguely familiar but I wasn't really sure from where.
"You're on Banaro Island son, we have a pretty sizable town with just about everything you could think of."
My blood froze as I heard those words. "I-I see…" My head spun as I realized that in probably just 2 years time, this place would be wiped off the map by a struggle between two New World Logia's. I couldn't say anything as I continued to chop wood. About an hour later we had chopped enough wood and brought it inside.
"Sora!" A voice called out to me, as I felt someone hug me, looking up I was surprised to see it was my friend Cynthia. "Cynth?! What are you doing here?" I asked surprised.
"I got saved by old man Cob as well last night during that storm, you've been out since we got here. Come on i'll fill you in and introduce you to the new friend I made."
I nodded to the girl and followed her into the kitchen where a young girl about Cynthia's age was working on making some sort of dish.
"Sora, meet Maria, Maria Sora." She said gesturing between me and the girl.
Maria was young woman probably about 17 by the looks of her and had short blonde hair, and was wearing a blue sundress with an apron on.
Maria smiled, "It's nice to meet you! Cynthia has told me about how you all got lost during that storm. That must have been terrifying. You're welcome to stay with me and Grandpa as long as you like."
I nodded, "Thank you very much." I said with a smile
Maria giggled, "Of course, why don't you both go sit down and wait, lunch will be ready soon."
Cynthia nodded, "Thanks Maria, we'll be in the other room, we've got to talk about some things." She said give me a look. I nodded and followed her into the other room.
As we both sat down I looked her dead in the eye. "So, how much do we know so far."
Cynthia sighed and counted from her fingers. "Let's see, we're in One Piece, somehow we've regressed in age till we're like 18 or so, and we're 2 or 3 years before the events of One Piece."
I nodded. "Any sign of Terra?"
Cynthia shook her head. "As far as I can tell we're the only one's who made it here."
"Fuck.." I said aloud. "So any idea how we got here."
Cynthia thought for a moment. "Well, I assume that the dude who joined our chat sent us here."
I nodded "That was a given"
Cynthia looked at me. "Well what do we do now?"
"I say we wait…Get used to living here first. Then we track down Terra and find a way back home."
Cynthia nodded. "It's crazy though." She said leaning back and looking up. "I never imagined something like this could happen…."
I sighed. "Yeah…well at least we're in good company." I said remembering how kind the people who had found us had been.
Cynthia smiled, "That's true."
After talking for awhile longer, we decided to plan for a trip by saving up money from doing jobs around the town for the next few weeks. Hopefully we would be able to save enough money. We also decided against telling Cob and Maria about where we actually came from for the time being. It wouldn't be a good idea to share that right now.
Soon lunch was ready and we all ate at the table. Cob looked at the two of us. "So where exactly are you two from."
Me and Cynthia looked at each other nervously before I answered. "We're from pretty far away from here…we're not really sure how we got here. The last thing we remember is we we're talking one night, the next we were in the middle of the ocean fighting to stay alive."
Cynthia smirked at me. "Well you were fighting to stay alive. I was just fine." she said with a giggle.
I rolled my eyes "Ha ha, very funny." I said playfully punching her on the arm.
Maria giggled at our banter. "Well it seems you two are close friends at least." Cynthia smiled
"Yep, we've known each other since we were kids, and have been close friends ever since."
I took a drink of the juice I had been given, it was quite good. I looked at Cob. "Mr. Cob, I-" I was immediately cut off by him giving me a death glare.
"None of that Mr. crap, Just call me Cob. Mr. makes me feel old."
I sweatdropped at that, "R-right, um, well Cob, do you think you could teach me a bit about swordsmanship?" I asked hoping he would accept.
Cob looked at me with a raised eyebrow, "And why do you think I would know anything about that."
I smiled, "Simple, I was watching you cut the wood. You had the form and technique of someone who knew what they were doing." I said before adding. "Also I saw the sword hanging in your room when I woke up."
Cob looked at me for a moment before smirking. "You've got a good eye…alright lets see what you can do." He said as he stood up, and gestured for me to follow him out back.
I quickly finished my drink before heading to the back, with Cynthia and Maria bringing up the rear.
He led me to what appeared to be a tool shed of some kind. I waited outside as he looked inside for something. Before something was suddenly flung at me and promptly slapped me in the face.
"Ow son of…" I looked at what was in my hands now. A wooden practice sword, and Cob had one as well.
"Now then, assuming you know how to swing that thing, I may be able to teach you something."
I nodded and took my position, my right foot forward and my left foot back, my arms parallel in front of me with the wooden sword at the ready.
Cob smiled, "Come at me with everything you have."
I nodded and soon rushed at him, raising my sword to attack in a downward strike. Cob easily blocked it though, and pushed me back, gesturing for me to try again.
This time I came in with a flurry of attacks, trying to remember what I knew about swordplay before coming here. Which granted, wasn't a whole lot.
I struck from below in an upward diagonal, which Cob blocked before I attempted pivoting and striking from the side. Cob smirked and blocked again. "Well at least you aren't swinging it like a baseball bat. Now let's see how you do on defense."
Cob quickly pushed me back, and started to strike at me, forcing me to block as quickly as I could. Upward, Diagonal, Left-
"GAH!" The wind was knocked out of me, as the man punched me in the gut sending me to the ground.
Cob let out a laugh. "Not bad, kid. You still have a long way to go though!"
I coughed on the ground trying to regain my breath. And leaned on my sword a little. Cob hit like an absolute truck, and I was frankly quite surprised by how I was even on one knee at the moment.
I slowly stood up as Cob grinned. "Ready for more?" He asked grinning viciously.
That unnerved me a little, but I nodded and went at him with everything I had, swinging furiously while trying to find even the slightest opening. It was no use though, as every strike was easily blocked. Finally, Cob pushed my sword away, and swung downwards.
I flinched back, before Cob's swing stopped inches from my face. He grinned. "Not bad kid. Why don't we leave it there for now." I nodded and wiped the sweat off my brow that I had worked up.
Cynthia smiled "That was awesome, I didn't know you could do that!" Maria had gone back inside and brought me a glass of water cause she thought I might need it.
She was right as I quickly downed the water. I looked at my childhood friend with a grin and said. "Yeah, remember I was one of the Star Wars kids back in the neighborhood.
Maria tilted her head "Star..Wars? What's that?"
Cynthia and I instantly paled. "O-oh! It was a popular play that we watched growing up. It was set in a fictional universe and took place in outer space."
Maria smiled. "That sounds fascinating, I'd love to see it someday."
I could have sworn I heard Cynthia say something about that being difficult under her breath but ignored it in favor of offering a smile.
"Maybe someday I can show it to you." I said with a grin.
Soon after me and Cob had put our swords away he looked at me. "Alright, I'll be happy to teach you what I can. While I'm sure you could possibly handle any regular criminal, I'm not sure how well you would do against pirates." I was confused by that. "Why do you say that, do pirates attack Banaro often?"
Maria smiled "Yep but grandpa usually sends them packing, he's really strong. He used to sail all over the Grand Line."
Cob sighed. "That was a long time ago and I'm not getting any younger." He said as he went back inside.
I looked at Cynthia. "Maybe you should try learning some as well."
Cynthia crossed her arms in and X, "Pass, I'll stick to hand to hand or i'll just get a gun."
She said with a grin. As we headed back inside.
For better or worse, this was the start of our new lives in this crazy world.

Meanwhile on an island not too far from Banaro, another young man was slowly coming back to consciousness. "So you're finally awake."
The young man looked at who was talking to him. "That's good, cause you're gonna tell me, exactly how you got here."
Seeing as the man before him had sword to his throat the young man nodded, but internally he cursed.
'What the hell is going on.'
