Now that the UA students were given enough breathing room to breathe after the affair they had to endure at the border, The case now sat in front of them at the hotel that Nakamura purchased for a week for the boys under his care.
Their scrutiny of the attache yielded nothing of significance for the young heroes to use against Humarise. That didn't signify their defeat in the grand scheme of things.
"What the hell?! This is just a fucking case!"
"... I must agree. I can't recognize anything past what we already discovered."
Neither the viewpoints of Bakugou or Shoto offered a solution. An exasperated Nakamura intervened and just started to feel the case like a pervert in front of his students. It was only when he felt what was the answer to their conundrum that he returned the case to the UA students.
"Maybe you're not looking at it in the right way…"
Haru left the hotel room before any of the boys could decipher his message. Katsuki replicated his mentor and realized what he was talking about when doing so.
"Oy, stupid."
He tossed the currently empty case to Izuku for his childhood friend to assess for themselves.
"Do what Haru-san did just now…"
Repeating the exact same motions with the case in the same position caused the boy to widen his eyes in realization over what Bakugou wanted to share. Both Shoto and Rory were clued in when Izuku clawed at the corner of what kept the secret of the case hidden from the young UA heroes.
The bottom layer of the case peeled back to reveal a clear window of something that looked to be a containment device for several chemical vials. Looking at the truth of what they had in their possessions put into perspective that maybe this whole affair was more complicated that what was first thought.
"... What the hell."
Rory couldn't believe what he had mistaken for a case of valuable jewels. What this looked to be was over a thousand times more valuable than several million euros in stolen valuable stones.
What drew his attention was the strange looking artifact in the lower left corner of the suitcase. In contrast to the securely locked vials, this key only needed to be picked up for anybody to solve. For Rory, this was already a path he knew from many years ago.
From someone he knew very well.
It took only a few minutes for him to solve, revealing a micro sd and stick of sorts that didn't look like any typical piece of tech that the UA students had ever come across. All they needed to do was plug the memory card into the hotel pc to see what it was that the card kept secret.
Undisclosed Location
Fleck had been trying to ping his contact in the Odeon PD for a few minutes before his call finally connected. His impatience was palpable through his voice alone.
"What on earth has kept you from responding?! You had better have a good reason for such-"
"He's taken a leave of permanent absence, Mr. Hold. That waste of space has done enough."
Fleck didn't expect to hear a distorted voice on the other end of the call. Worse than that, there was no video feed while the other person had perfect clarity on their side.
"Who the hell are you?! Where is the general commissioner?"
"Your organization. Humarise, was it? I find it starting to be a massive pain in the ass to deal with now, so know this…"
What the Humarise leader felt in their voice sent shivers down his spine. This confidence he was hearing didn't feel unwarranted. The fact that his insider for the Otheon PD was now seemingly disposed of didn't bode well with what to expect from this mysterious antagonist. Already being this vulnerable without the chemical accelerants for his bombs put the entire plan in jepoardy.
"You're finished. This little power trip of yours has been some of the most wasteful disposal of my time to date. Know that whatever you do from here on out will be nothing more than a waste of your time as well…"
The call ended then and there. Fleck felt his blood pressure spike to unprecedented levels as he clutched the ritual knife he had as the trigger for the bombs. He couldn't even threated the world with bombs that were nothing more than expensive duds. His eyes had a flare of wrath in them as he commanded all available sleepers to go and find out where the suitcase was with the final components to his trigger bombs.
Klayd
Back in the hotel room, the four teenage boys utilized the pc in the hotel to access the memory card that came out of the puzzle. Inside of its storage were hundreds of audio files with only the time stamps being shown on each recording. Time was already against them enough, so they opted to click on the newest one to see what information they could glean from the recordings.
"... My name is Alan Kay. I am one of the researchers captured by Humarise to develop the trigger bombs they now possess."
All of them listened intently as the man on the recording explained the situation the researchers were placed in after being kidnapped. Nobody could expect the bleak circumstances that forced these innocent men and women to create a bomb so horrendous for people who possessed quirks themselves.
Their families were threatened with death if they didn't comply with the demands of Humarise. Years of R&D went into these weapons of mass destruction as Humarise continued to grow in numbers and influence.
One thing that the organization failed to recognize was the inner resistance that started to develop inside of their own science teams.
Out of concern for the rest of humanity, these researchers put in a very effective yet secretive countermeasure to permanently get rid of the bombs. The chemical formula they produced needed a secondary component in extremely small doses for the bombs to produce the gas necessary. Without the accelerants, these bombs would be unable to do any sort of damage. Those chemical vials mentioned were now lying on their hotel bed in the sealed container hidden in the back of the suitcase.
Another earth shattering revelation was how the bombs could be rendered completely neutral. The digital key that came with the puzzle would be the first of two steps to do so.
Inserting the key into the main control deck at the central base of operations would shut down the launch sequence. After doing so, reinserting the vials into the bombs would trigger a different process that would actually cause the quirk enhancing solution inside of them to become little more than a harmless salt solution; making sure that these bombs and their chemicals would never be used again.
By working together the scientists managed to fool the organization into thinking that this was the only way to produce the bombs, but they still lacked one final component to their plan. They needed a way to get them out of Humarises clutches.
It was then that a mysterious entity contacted the science teams through hidden channels in their systems. Nobody knew how these people got into the Humarise network, yet there they were.
A group of very powerful people offered to smuggle out the vials and guarantee the end of Humarise with the acquisition of said vials being delivered. This didn't bode well for the teens listening in on the information leak. Not only was Humarise a concern, now there seemed to be another group of people out to get their hands on the case.
They clicked through more audio files to see who these people were that contacted this researcher and his team. Almost an hour of listening revealed quite a bit about who was on the research team, though info on the organization that offered to help get the vials out of Humaris's grasp was lacking at best. All they knew now was that the organization that offered their help were secretive and very powerful. Being able to give one of the researchers a ticket out of the facility as well as give them access to the secure location where the accelerants were stored was no easy feat.
Most of the information revealed things like progress on the bombs and concerns for the inevitable escape attempt. One person in the room felt his heart clench at the mention of someone named Eddie Soul, a researcher trapped by Humarise who helped with the plan.
"If I could ask for one thing, I wish that Eddie Soul's sacrifice would be honored by you lot. He gave his life to keep this process under wraps and away from the prying eyes of Humarise. Without him, none of this would have been possible. Please, help his family."
Rory felt his chest ache at the truth of what happened to his father. There was no sort of abandonment on his part all those years ago. Memories of his pops and the others were all genuine and pure in how Rory's father truly did give up more than what he could have imagined.
"This is great and all, but where the hell is this base?"
Bakugou provided the voice of reason at the blatant truth that they all still didn't know where the location of said base was. Hope was just wishful thinking without a plan of action.
Scrubbing the files revealed exactly what the boys were looking for.
One folder contained schematics of the building along with instructions on how to disable the whole system with said key. They were simple, but provided the challenge over how they were supposed to reach a cave base that was over four hundred kilometers away. It was Rory who recommended a drastic measure for them all to take.
After the boys agreed to the current plan, the hotel room opened up to reveal Nakamura. He asked if they were all set to go, which they confirmed with the man who provided their transport. They all made their way to the new car that got swapped out from the SUV that Nakamura beat to hell in the getaway. Unknown to them was what happened in the past two hours or so after he left the teens in the room.
One Hour and Fifty Minutes Earlier
Smoking outside of the hotel lobby, Haru waited patiently for the boys upstairs to go over their next plan of attack. His being in the country was mostly due to his concern for the young teens messing with Humarise. Keeping them from sinking too far below the depths needed him to be there every step of the way. Taking on a global terrorist organization wasn't exactly something to leave to a bunch of highschoolers, after all.
What caught his attention were several men who were murmuring to each other as they crossed the lobby. What they said under their breath caused Nakamura to flick the cigarette away to start tailing the group up the elevator.
He interrupted their elevator rise and annoyingly pushed himself into the car, along with the eight other gentlemen going up. He hit the button of the floor underneath their destination right as the doors began to slide closed.
Right as Nakamura's floor came, the opening elevator opened up and revealed eight unconscious men all starting to topple out of the car.
The three laundry carts brought to wheel out the men worked quickly and quietly while more men in the hallway kept a lookout for anybody trying to enter the space. Being subtle was key, so the operatives disguised themselves as a group of drunk businessmen outside of their hotel room and even slowed down a family enough to let the carts get away without any suspicion.
Another team tried the same thing, only to meet the fate of their previous operatives in relatively the same manner.
Haru didn't hesitate to take Izuku and the others to an air strip for a plane; the choice of charter had been a bit of a surprise for everyone except Nakamura when they finally got some transportation.
Much Later
The teens were genuinely startled when Haru managed to negotiate and pay for an actual military cargo plane. He somehow also knew how to pilot one while teaching Rory about what it took to maneuver such a complex piece of machinery.
Out of experience of flying charter planes before, Rory offered to be the pilot that would take the three junior heroes to the location necessary. What he didn't expect was to be in a military cargo plane, learning the additional nuances that came with operating such an expensive piece of equipment. Only Nakamura looked to be completely unfazed by the entire turn of events.
As someone who employed themselves with the UA students, Haru also managed to sneak out the young heroes' costumes for them, though not their normal costumes as expected.
In his possession were the upgraded stealth suits that were thought to be only with the proper authorities. How he got them didn't linger as a question for the boys as they equipped their suits for the operation ahead. They would need every advantage available to them for the fight up ahead.
While he asked Rory to maintain altitude, Nakamura excused himself to the restroom. While there, he pulled out his mobile to contact someone in particular. Someone he knew would honor the value of discretion.
World Hero Alliance HQ
"You are?!"
Catching the attention of the other commanders, All Might bowed out of apology before returning to his call while being more discreet.
"Where is it? How can we help?"
Some moments passed before All Might confirmed with Haru over what needed to be done. The fact that his fellow mentor was with Izuku told him enough about the situation. Until the cavalry needed to arrive, the heroes would only instigate a war in society that would put too many innocent people in the crossfire.
He followed instructions until the second call came in. People still were blissfully unaware of the current climactic fight for humanity happening right underneath them.
Humarise Base of Operations
Now flying over the cliffside base of Humarise, the bay doors began to open up with an alarm going off for the teenage boys to jump immediately. They were about to do so before someone called out to them from the cockpit.
"Guys!"
Turning back to their mentor, Haru gave them a fist that they all understood and returned out of respect for their teacher's wishes.
"Make it home…"
With that, they all leapt out of the cargo plane. They all fell at terminal velocity through the rainfall when the guards started to notice the incoming heroes. All of them started to spray and pray towards the sky to try and take down the young heroes.
Just as expected, their mentor was right when it came to the gunfire as they fell right out of the sky.
What Haru shared with the teens was how their approach should be when they made the drop. He disclosed that the guns that the guards were likely using lacked the proper range to hit them through the rain as well as the air pressure being a factor as they dropped to the ground. That didn't translate to them being invincible, it just meant that this sort of forward approach was their best chance of getting in close enough without having to worry about significant damage.
A Humarise member took off their mask and started to use their screaming quirk to try and stun Bakugou as he fell closer towards the earth. His response was to simply take aim at the incoming blast of sound and launch his own counterattack.
"Rapid Fire HV Concussion Shots!"
It was nothing short of a merciless carpet bombing against the Humarise guards outside of the cavern. Todoroki and Izuku pulled their own weight with their own attacks, knocking down the ranks of Humarise soldiers. They quickly regrouped as Shoto used his speed to assist Midoriya as he launched a devastating wave of power with a single Texas Smash. The way was now clear for the infiltration team.
Katsuki took on the entrance on his own as Izuku skated away with Todoroki's assistance into the compound. He managed well enough on his own with the devastating blasts that took out handfuls of Humarise soldiers with each shot.
So far, so good. Bakugou took stock of his surroundings when he heard someone come up to his right. A single blast charge sent the bladed whips that were flying towards him back at their owner.
"... Huh; looks like there really are some idiots desperate enough for their own survival, eh?"
From the circumstances alone, it was easy to tell that the twin villains with identical quirks and looks of purple hair were brought into the organization for their own amnesty. He saw it as desperate acts from scurrying vermin looking out for only themselves. They wasted no time in continuing their assault with more bladed whips from both their arms. Katsuki could only scoff at what he saw.
"Heh, I've seen racquet balls faster than you pricks."
Elsewhere
What amazed Rory was how the plane remained intact after sweeping through almost a kilometer of dense jungle with its wings. An impromptu landing by Haru had Rory shaking his head free of the loose cobwebs the landing rattled loose. Nakamura told the boy he would head up first while Rory followed suit.
Grumbling to himself over the rough environment, a snap of a twig alerted Rory to the Humarise soldiers who now had their submachine guns aimed at the teen.
Before they could ask their question; Rory spotted something start to reach out from behind the soldiers. Two arms hovered past the heads of two men and plucked the selected two into the forest behind them. The quick screams that they made before being dragged into the wilderness alerted the remaining five to the sudden disappearance of their allies. Panic set in as they started to question the forest and Rory over what happened to their fellow Humarise members.
From out of the forest, the limp and unconscious bodies of the two that were kidnapped briefly collided with three more humarise soldiers to knock them out on their way to the ground far below where they stood above Rory. Before they could respond properly, someone then charged into the last two soldiers and slammed them both into a tree hard enough to knock them out cold.
Rory could only look on in awe at the man who took down seven armed soldiers with ease as he called to the stunned teen for them to keep moving. He managed to shake himself out of it to then focus on the mission.
As long as those bombs exhisted, they needed to keep their heads low and legs moving. There was too much on the line to lose focus now.
