Both Izuku and Shoto were traveling down the long corridor on a stream of ice produced by Todoroki while addressing the security system launching lasers at them. They had things under relative control while dodging the beams that were trying to cut them down in their tracks. Throwing them off their current trajectory was something roaring like a beast while trying to hit the teens with some sort of strange spiraling tentacles.
Beyond them was a monster with white skin and two rippling tentacles sprouting from its head. Every inch of its physique had muscles upon muscles as it used those muscles to chase down the two teens trying to escape.
"Damn!"
Throwing Midoriya up ahead, Shoto stood his ground and produced a wave of ice to block off the hallway. Izuku tried to call out to his friend before they cut him off.
"Go, Midoriya! There's no time!"
He would buy time for Izuku by confronting the enhanced quirk user while he got to the command deck. Only by disabling the bombs would they be able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Nodding to Todoroki, Izuku acknowledged his comrade's efforts and took off down the corridor towards the objective. Just in time as well, since the ice then exploded into pieces as several red appendages burrowed through the ice barrier to shatter it.
A focused beam of fire similar to his father's spider grasp attack emanated from only his right index finger at the creature.
Recognizing the attack as effective, Shoto trained under his father to replicate the effects of the deadly attack. Struggling to duplicate it perfectly had him consult his second teacher for advice to improve its output. A simple solution was offered that Shoto felt a bit stupid for not realizing before calling Haru. His focus and drive resulted in the attack that he now used against the mutated Humarise quirk user trying to kill him.
"Weaver's Thread!"
The single beam of heat had several times the potency of a single beam he tried to produce for his father's version of the attack. It actually did manage to cause a visible reaction in his opponent as it actually recoiled at the fact its chest had almost been split in half with a flaming beam.
Wasting this moment of vulnerability would set Shoto back in the fight. If this thing could heal like the Nomu, then every attack he had would batter in the grand scheme of things. A wave of tempered Ize managed to catch the monster by its ankles, which it too could recognize that the ice was stronger than the previous ice it smashed to pieces. Before Shoto could land another blow up close, it winded up its arm and slammed its fist into the ground with all its might. Far below them was an underground river that approached as both combatants fell towards the violent currents below.
Elsewhere
In front of the Humarise base, Bakugou hit the twins with another wave charge that they failed to parry. Turns out trying to cut through a blast wave needed more than just a few flimsy bladed whips to neutralize.
Things weren't as one sided as he was making them out to be, either. Katsuki could feel the rebound effects of using so many accelerated versions of his explosions in quick succession. His arms were tingling out of numbness, skirting on becoming painful if he didn't end this fight anytime soon.
His opponents were looking irritated at the failure to evade Bakugou's explosions. Speed like theirs made them certain of their abilities, yet this kid had attacks that were wearing them down significantly.
Standing outside of the cavern, Bakugou only looked at the twins with a smirk as he hit a button on his right gauntlet.
The entire cavern started to violently rumble when the charges he strategically placed started to go off with the accelerated sweat he put into them. Katsuki measured their speed being more reactionary than them being fast overall. As predicted, the twins started to lash out at the falling rubble falling down on them rather than trying to escape. Boulders piled up high up as the villains were more than certainly buried underneath the debris.
Taking a breather felt like a gift for Bakugou. Each second he had to finally relax felt like heaven. Time still was working against him, so he pushed himself back up to go and assist his fellow heroes inside of the base.
What Katsuki didn't anticipate was that his opponents were still not quite out for the count yet. Both villains had a large syringe filled with the quirk enhancing solution that the bombs contained. The solution didn't have the same destabilizing potency without the accelerant, so the compound provided the ideal reaction to make their powers far more effective.
Erupting out of the rocks were the mutated versions of the twins with bladed whips coming out of their arms. Each had four more bladed tentacles sprouting out of their shoulders.
Bakugou cursed his luck as he put his arms back up to prepare for an even harder fight ahead of him.
"Fuck."
Humarise Central Cathedral
Izuku kicked down the doors that led into the echoing chamber that the organization's cathedral had been in a literal definition.
So much space in an underground room like this made Midoriya question if this place was even stable enough for it to support all that weight above it. Such thoughts were put on the backburner with his current objective being the search for the door that led to the command deck of the bombs.
"Someone as afflicted as you is unwelcome in such a holy place…"
Ahead of Izuku was none other than the one in command of the whole operation. Fleck Turn, the mastermind behind Humarise, approached Izuku as the blast shutters lining the bookshelves all started to rise in preparation of the fight about to occur.
Descending the steps, Fleck kept sharing his beliefs over the state of quirks and how such a phenomenon would only cause suffering in the grand scheme of things.
Any sane person could see how delusional his beliefs were over how the world needed to be sacrificed for his selfish viewpoints. His stand on the matter had been resolute, so Izuku did what was necessary to stop the madman from doing what they thought was necessary.
A single kick launched at Fleck's head stopped just a few centimeters from landing on Izuku's intended target. More importantly, all the force that went into the teen's attack suddenly became visibly captured in the black cyclone that sprouted from behind Fleck. It then shrunk down and unloaded every bit of force back into Izuku's leg, causing excruciating pain to erupt from the limb.
He hit the bookshelf behind him hard enough to rip through the armored shutters and scatter a few books all along the floor.
Feeling such a powerful rebound of energy clued Izuku in enough about what the quirk he was up against was capable of. Anything that approached the villain got pushed back with returned force. Changing up tactics, Izuku asked Fleck why a man that possessed a quirk would want to destroy others with the same gifts as him.
From the man's perspective, a quirk as constant and powerful as his caused his life to be hell. He shared the tales of how nobody in his life wanted to be close to him due to his quirk repelling even basic physical touch. HIs lack of control over his own abilities drove the man to hate and resent quirks enough to create Humarise. Enough for him to seek the eradication of quirks as a whole.
While Fleck monologued about his life's pain, Izuku kept analyzing the facts to see what he could do against such a powerful quirk. He tried something that could be a possible answer to the conundrum.
He approached with One for All active and tried to time his activation to throw a powerful normal punch at Fleck. When it connected, Izuku realized two things about the quirk immediately. One, the quirk reflected all force; not just quirks. Two, Fleck mastered the power enough to direct where it came out of him. His attack had all its power focused into the Humarise's leader's fist as they delivered a punishing blow on his stomach. This attack had enough power to launch Izuku into the blast shields and even break these ones like the first set.
Now things were looking dire for Midoriya. He still could maneuver around without too much discomfort; though that didn't bode well with how unscathed Fleck still looked to be.
Multiple plates from the cult leader's clothes emerged and began to float around him. While still mouthing on about humanity's salvation, the laser turrets that circled the room all sprouted out of the walls and all fired at Fleck.
All his reflectors started to reflect the red lasers all aimed at him. These lasers were all aimed at Izuku, which he did his best to dodge as they came his direction.
Multiple shots pierced the teen's body relentlessly. Izuku stood back up again and again to try and fight, with only the bitter pain of being shot his only reward. Standing on shaky legs felt like a challenge on its own as Fleck opened up multiple broadcasts to the outside world and his two friends fighting for survival.
"The world is fragile enough without these supposed gifts called 'quirks'! Why struggle with this curse when life was meant to be so much simpler?"
Watching his friends and loved ones do the right thing filled Izuku with a realization.
A realization over who and what mattered to him. Something that he knew to be a truth that didn't resonate with the entire world, but still had enough value for him to fight for now. All these things happened because he and these people chose the decisions that made them who they were.
Before he could answer Fleck, Izuku felt his blood pressure drop enough to cause him to collapse. Falling to the floor was all he could do in such a critical moment like this. Things couldn't end here like this.
"You alright, kiddo?"
Catching him, a voice he recognized as someone he could always depend on kept Izuku from hitting the floor. Helping Midoriya back up was none other than the white manned mentor, Nakamura.
Rody then approached Izuku to take the other teenage boy upon his own shoulder. Haru left Izuku in Rody's care as he gave the boy he cared for as his own son one last somber look as he turned to Fleck. His jacket fell to the floor along with his shirt, revealing his steely build that had muscle definition like a marble statue.
"You've stood alone long enough. Let your old man take things from here."
While this was occurring, Rody helped Izuku across the edge of the room while Nakamura kept shedding more of his clothes onto the floor.
Haru only had on a pair of spandex shorts that were used in combat sports that reached just above his knees. Taking up a grappling pose had Fleck curious as to who this man was that intended to take him on with only melee combat.
"I cannot reiterate how foolish this is. What you fail to understand is-"
Closing the distance in a blink of an eye was Haru, which Fleck instinctively moved to try and block with his arm. More startling to the cult leader was how the man that tried to grab him then suddenly disappeared right in front of him. His abdomen then erupted into crushing pain as he felt constrictive pressure on his stomach. When looking down, Fleck realized that Haru had caught him in a bear hug with a solid enough grip to resist the initial push back. What this meant for the cult leader was how this man failed to understand the pain he was about to receive in return.
An explosion of energy that even caused Izuku to yell out in fear of his mentor burst out of Haru. As the smoke settled, boh Izuku and Rory were amazed to see what emerged from the dust as it cleared out.
Nakamura still had his arms clasped around a distressed Fleck that now was starting to panic in the grasp of this abnormally strong man. To further assert his dominance in the fight, Haru clamped down hard enough on Fleck to cause several audible cracks to erupt from the blue man's back.
Now it was Fleck that found himself in a bind. It became clear that this man didn't possess any sort of extreme strength or power as he now had the cult leader trapped in his arms. His durability surpassed his strength enough to cause Fleck to start feeling uncomfortable with the pain he felt in the bearhug squeezing the breath out of him.
The lasers encompassing the room were another option.
A volley of lasers came down on Nakamura as he still had Fleck trapped in his clinch. Even Izuku started to call out to his mentor as the beams were about to collide with Haru. His concern then transitioned into confusion when Fleck suddenly replaced Nakamura as the target for the lasers. All the projectiles were forced to be reflected by the man's quirk while Nakamura was nowhere to be seen by Fleck.
Beams of energy cut through the overpriced marble polished to a mirror finished on the floor. As he finished reflecting the beans that hit him, Fleck's reactions lacked the speed to catch his opponent tackling him with enough speed to do damage to his hip joint due to the difference of force and what his quirk could repel.
Years of convincing himself that his quirk couldn't be surpassed caused the Humarise leader to become complacent in life. His belief was that his quirk had an insurmountable peak to his limit.
Feeling a wall slam into the back of his head put in perspective how lacking that perspective was in reality.
Watching Nakamura tackle the criminal responsible for all this chaos into the armored plating on the opposite side of the room evoked a sense of fear in Izuku. While he succumbed to his pain that was caused by Fleck, Haru fought with all his might to protect his son. Leaving his father here to fend for himself didn't feel right to the injured teen.
"... Rory, go on ahead."
"Huh?"
Giving the one trying to help him out of the situation a solid enough shove, Izuku made his intentions clear.
"Go! I can't leave my dad behind!"
What Rory saw in Izuku's eyes told him enough. Midoriya wanted to keep fighting to protect what he personally valued. Someone he saw as his family was fighting a battle that he personally took upon himself to fight, yet he now couldn't bear to leave them behind in this struggle. Rory wanted to just keep dragging Izuku away from the conflict, but what Izuku wished for was hard to deny for the young man who understood where Izuku came from. If he dragged away Izuku now, then he would deny Midoriya the right to defend what he needed to as a person.
As a man.
Right as Fleck found himself pinned against the wall that Nakamura slammed him into, the lasers in the room were already ready to pelt the man down with another volley.
"Detroit…"
Before the beams could hit their target, an attack that shoved Fleck farther into the bookshelf he was pinned up against hit the villain square in his face.
"Smash!"
All that force started to build up in a rebound created from Fleck's quirk. When that power unleashed itself, the target meant for the retaliation hadn't been there to receive it. The room shook with a powerful shockwave that failed to hit its mark.
On a different side of the room; both Haru and Izuku were talking about what just happened. It was more of Haru lecturing Izukju over his reckless actions in attacking Fleck for the most part.
"Why?! I told you to protect Rory! Why did you do that?!"
Looking Nakamura in the eyes, Izuku said the one thing that he knew he wanted Haru to know.
"Y-you're my dad. I just can't leave you behind…"
Hearing Izuku say what he did changed a very significant part of him. He now knew that Izuku saw him as family. Pushing away the boy now wouldn't help the situation, so he stood up Midoriya before sharing some critical information regarding their strategy for the fight. They needed to work in tandem if they wanted to win this fight.
While they were getting themselves situated, Fleck impatiently started to approach the father and son duo intent on stopping his grand scheme.
He took eleven steps when both Izuku and Haru suddenly sprinted in opposite directions. Their strategy had been devised while Fleck was now forced to be a reactionary opponent to their scheme.
His attention being divided allowed Haru to come in close enough to tackle the villain and force Fleck to keep his balance at the attempted takedown by the other man. All that energy started to build up against Haru when Izuku came in from behind to kick Fleck in his back while Haru kept applying pressure in his charge. It dawned on Fleck that his quirk had some limitations that he never realized he needed to address in a real fight.
Fending off multiple attackers that had above average durability put him in a difficult situation in regards to how he needed to redistribute the reactionary force his quirk produced. That hesitation allowed his opponents to land their damage upon the once previously thought to be invincible Fleck.
He felt the force of Izuku's kick on his back as Nakamura then flipped the man onto his back with enough force to crack the stone underneath him. A double whammy that Fleck needed to recover from as Izuku and Haru backed off to reevaluate their next attack.
What the Humarise leader then realized when he regained his composure was the lack of Rory in the room. The door leading into the command center for the bombs' was left ajar.
Sprinting towards the door caused Haru to intercept the villain. A punch thrown by Fleck was met with a punch by Nakamura. The force that should have torn Haru's arm apart did nothing against the quirkless man. After being hit with the shockwave of the attack, Haru then pushed back with his own force against the villain that tried to end him with the punch he blocked. Immediately, Fleck's wrist suddenly cracked audibly against the punch he failed to repel.
Backing away from Haru was all he could do as the pain of a dislocated wrist started to settle in. His hand felt extremely sensitive as the joints were swelling from the injury. Fleck could only stare back at the man who stopped him from stopping the annoyance that could bring down his life's work.
Even that seemed too good for the terrorist leader as a kick hit the man on the side of the head that quickly accompanied itself with a fist planted square on his nose. Both combatants intent on taking him down left Fleck in an extremely precarious situation.
