In another part of the city, heroes were working with the ESD to evacuate the population from the dangerous areas.
Quite a lot of work needed to be implemented for the population to be moved out of the vicinity of the potential danger. This precaution felt rather necessary for how large of a threat the Paranormal Liberation Army felt to public safety.
Stop him.
What he heard in his head sounded like the voice of the first inheritor. Izuku felt the changes in the wind that suddenly erupted out from deep within.
Shut the fuck up, you old deadbeat. Tell him what to do at the least, prick.
An abundance of information suddenly flooded Izuku's head in an instance. His head turned to where that information pointed him.
"He's here."
Elsewhere
Emerging from the ashes of the destruction brought on by Bloodsoaked, Shigaraki rose out of the crater that only had him as the remains of what was destroyed.
Silence like that of an empty field only rendered the sounds of the wind audible to him. There was a natural draw towards something in the horizon that caught his attention. He used one of the new abilities bestowed upon him to track the quirk that he was compelled to steal. One for All was far into the distance. He looked towards the source as something then leapt out of the smoke radiating from the burning remains of the hospital.
"Prominence Flame Curtain!"
Endeavor launched a blanket of intense heat to try and melt the rejuvenated villain. His attack turned the hole in the ground into a burning pit that looked like the entrance to hell. Certain that Shigaraki was done for, he didn't expect to be hit with a blast of air that repelled him back towards the other heroes in reserve behind Endeavor.
Trailing fire as he launched himself out of the burning pit, Tomura made a beeline towards the inheritor of One for All using the quirk that was stolen from Ragdoll. Her quirk had the added bonus of being able to track quirks that had been seen by the previous users before it was stolen. It made it a cakewalk to locate One for All and track it down. Now the main goal was to find that quirk and take it for himself. Only then would he find the answer to what this all meant.
Only after then…
Months Ago
Staring down at the hand modeled after his father's, the once frequently worn security blanket looked so different now. Shigaraki could only feel conflicted over everything that had come to pass.
"You will go through hell, but once it is done; you will emerge with powers once thought impossible. You will become the catalyst to this society's destruction…"
Dr. Garaki informed the young man about what the procedure would entail if Tomura were to undergo it. To be reborn with new powers was what he thought Tomura wanted in his mission to reform the world. What he saw in their eyes told him something different.
Shigaraki didn't possess that same maniacal glint that he swore he saw in his eyes when they were reunited all those weeks ago. Something had happened in Daiba that caused those once purely chaotic eyes to shift into something else.
It was like Tomura was trying to figure something out. There was still something that looked clear and focused in his eyes. He wasn't as focused on the destruction of society as he had been before.
Tenko could only think back to what he felt as Nakamura healed his hand and embraced him with love that he hadn't felt in a very long time.
Why Haru didn't force him to come with the man still escaped Tenko. He could have easily kidnapped him or just threatened him with physical harm to take the younger man. Hell, even withholding more information would have gotten him to follow Nakamura. It was like he wanted Tenko to find his own answer to the question that plagued them. To find out who he was by making the decisions Tenko wanted to make. Being helicoptered by his master throughout his whole life left Tenko a bit lost as to what to do. For the first time, he was the one who was in control with what happened next.
With his resolve steeled; Tomura returned the hand to his face before getting on the chair.
This excited the doctor enough to brush off what had concerned him about Shigaraki. Starting the process, Tenko had a very specific mission in mind if he were to survive this. HIs life had been one guide rail to the next, all in a desperate attempt to find something that would take his pain away. After this, he will go in search of the answer to the one question that has weighed
heavily upon him for too many years.
Was this all worth it? If so, can he still walk away?
Pain took over as blood also started to pop out of the bulging veins all over his body. Even being tortured beyond human comprehension didn't take away his resolve to find his purpose.
To find what his life would become after all this.
Present Time
"Excuse us for bothering your family today. ESD; we're here to question your husband regarding some private matters?"
A mother and her young son were answering the door to the sight of several ESD officers. It did catch her off guard, though the polite response and official credentials did put her enough at ease.
"O-of course. Dear?"
"Yes, who is i-"
When he rounded the corner, the sight of the ESD caused the man's eyes to bulge out of his skull. Before he could finish his sentence, a blast of air powerful enough to rip at the hallway that led to the front entrance. The officers managed to shield the innocent family with their shields as two other officers tanked the air blast to take aim at the Liberation Army member. He wasn't killed, but still retained injuries serious enough to cease all further attempts to evade custody.
"ESD, you're under arrest for conspiracy of terrorism!"
They apprehended the man and extracted the criminal while the other officers checked up on the terrified family. This was only one of the many thousands of arrests taking place all around the country.
During the evacuation of the public before the main siege on the Paranormal Liberation Front, the government had employed a nationwide arrest of all hidden members of the liberation army. This did lead to some resistance, though casualties were kept to a minimum wherever they could manage.
Only when there were no risks of innocents being caught in the crossfire was lethal force exercised to its fullest.
Izuku watched all of this take place as he and Bakugou soared high above the city. So much chaos, yet it all looked to keep those who needed protection safe from harm.
Midoriya's only objective was to get as far away from the civilian filled areas as quickly as humanly possible. Bakugou just so happened to have been assigned to his group and followed him when he noticed Izuku acting out of character. Now both of them were flying through the city towards the approaching threat.
"Kachan, I-"
"Shut up, Retard! I don't wanna hear it!"
There had been too much on Katsuki's shoulders for him to just leave Midoriya behind to fend for himself. Looking at Izuku, he only said one thing that got his childhood friend to stop arguing.
"I ain't gonna get bitch slapped by Mina again, so shut the fuck up and keep my face out of it."
All he could do after Bakugou's seemingly selfish demand was smile. These two were about to walk into a battle that would require all their expertise in order for them to come out on top. They would need all the help they can get from here on out.
Paranormal Liberation Force Base of Operation
"All officers, clear out the heroes! I repeat, target gamma is on the mo-"
Over the comms back at the perimeter, there was something that cut off the officer calling in something that had been discovered in the base. All remaining officers surrounding the base all immediately started moving and communicating back to headquarters for the next phase to take place.
The heroes were all notified to get ready for the next up and coming threat about to emerge from the liberation army base. That was when the threat then exploded from out of the base itself and started to charge like a rabid bull out of hell. None of the officers spared a moment to even grieve over the lives lost inside of the demolished base as they all began to provide support to the heroes now tasked with taking down Gigantomachia.
First up to take on the titan had been none other than Mountain Lady. She met the charge with both hands out, only to then realize that Gigantomachia's strength made him only slow down against her tackle. Gritting her teeth, she buried her heels in deep and kept trying to stop the monster from getting past her.
"Fire!"
Several restraining devices the ESD used out on the field were all equipped with the harpoon attachments. These barbed spears all buried themselves into multiple spots on the oversized colossus and assisted Mt. Lady in restraining the villain.
"Aerials, are we in position?!"
"No issue, we're taking the shot."
Several vehicles high above the fight were taking aim at the goliath still trying to escape custody. The automated targeting systems locked onto the target and speared Gigantomachia in his back and arms.
All these restraints were slowing down the charge of the beast by quite a lot now. Those who were depending on the giant to make their escape saw the need to intervene if they wished to escape.
"Damn! What the hell are these fucking things made out of?!"
Spinner had difficulty trying to hack away at the alloy cables that were buried into Gigantomachia. Compress did what he could to deflect the shots being made at Gigantomachia with little success. The debris he used to block the shots were being cut through like butter. Not even trying to absorb the cables with his quirk were getting them to release Gigantomachia. These ESD officers meant business to be using such equipment to stop the liberation forces.
Other villains who were trying to take down the heroes and ESD on the ground were starting to meet their match as well. The fight back at the base grew to be even more chaotic as the underground villains were now making their appearance to engage the law.
Re-Destro burst from the earth to join the battle, which got him several explosive rounds aimed directly at him. His screams of pain were deafening as he felt his flesh being marred by high ordinance explosions.
He realized that the fact that Gigantomachia had been activated meant that something wrong had happened with Shigaraki.
"What did you do to our savior?!"
A shockwave produced from his enlarged body pushed back the advancing ESD and heroes momentarily. The favor was returned in kind with heavy weapons fire from several airships above that pierced the body of the former liberation army leader.
Meanwhile, Mountain Lady found herself outmatched by the strength of Gigantomachia. Being restrained still didn't help her all that much as the giant kept slowly pushing further and further up.
Midnight and Kamui Wood were coming up on the left of the monster as he threw the gigantic hero out of his way with one arm. He then got to work removing the spears in his body.
He pulled on the cables attached to the aircrafts, both ripping out the spears and yanking down on the cables. The helicopters and jet crafts were forced to disconnect to avoid crashing into the ground. They all reloaded their cable launchers to keep restraining Gigantomachia. Kamui Wood did his best to get Midnight close enough to the threat so that she could use her gas to knock out Gigantomachia, though they were cut off from a large amount of rubble that appeared out of nowhere. On the back of the giant, Mr. Compress threw more projectiles that all hit their intended target. Both heroes were sent crashing into the forest below.
Kamui got the worst of it and was knocked clean out. Midnight felt her head and body ring like a copper bell as every little movement she made. Even she could tell that she was done after receiving so much damage in one attack.
In the distance, she could hear villains that were closing in on her and Kamui Wood. She needed to protect the defenseless hero while sustaining serious injuries as well.
"C-can you hear me, Create?"
Momo confirmed her presence to the injured UA instructor. From there, Midnight informed the girl that the first attempt to restrain Gigantomachia was starting to fail at the moment. He would be at their location in no time at all if the students didn't do something soon.
The villains that were closing in were now visible to Midnight. She didn't have a lot of time left, so she instructed the young hero to complete the task of sedating Gigantomachia through whatever means necessary.
"She's mine…"
One villain made his claim in killing the wounded hero. With one last encouraging statement, she hung up the call. Facing them head on was the last thing she would do if this was truly the end.
From behind her, gunfire erupted from the trees and pelted the advancing villains in automatic fire. Those out front of the charge were instantly killed while the rear took shelter amongst the trees.
"Go, go, go! Perimeter five alpha!"
Surrounding her and Kamui were multiple ESD officers that immediately produced a protective perimeter while the medics checked up on the injured heroes. Midnight felt all the adrenaline slowly start to ebb away as the medical professionals checked for what injuries that the two heroes sustained in their fall. While the villains were being gunned down, it was confirmed that they suffered multiple contusions and had concussions severe enough for them to be taken into emergency care.
Medics then put the two on their specialized stretchers before they were taken out of the battle via helicopters. They were stabilized on the way to the medical camp.
All Midnight could do as she was being carted to safety was hope that the junior UA heroes would be capable enough to stop that monster from doing anymore damage.
Elsewhere
Hearing that the heroes and ESD were starting to struggle taking down Gigantomachia sent the young teens into a bit of a panic. Only one person amongst them could competently come up with a plan to hold off the giant from causing further destruction in the city. Her spirit stilled itself as she then remembered something important in her past. The day when she was rescued by Nakamura from her kidnappers.
He never asked to be put in that situation. He didn't even ask for compensation after he did so. When she thought she was going to die in that dark and lonely place, he pulled back that very darkness and smiled for her to know that he was going to keep her safe. She would never forget how he never let her feel unsafe. Someone who wasn't a hero was that brave.
Now she was ready. If she wanted to be a hero like her mentor, then this would be nothing but a stroll in the park.
"Kyoka! Give me an ETA on his arrival! Mezo, get me a visual on his arrival!"
Each command was succinct and to the point. No time could be wasted if they wanted to stop this threat in its tracks. All the UA students fell into their roles as updates on Gigantomachia's progress were given by the two in charge of knowing where he was at all times. For the most part, the ESD and even Mountain Lady were doing their jobs well enough to buy the students some time.
With the severed cables from the ESD capture lines still in Gigantomachia, Mountain Lady wrapped them around her arms and buried her heels into the ground to keep a hold on him. He struggled to reach behind him enough to pull these harpoons free from his back. More cables buried themselves in his backs as the aircrafts all had him in their towlines.
All the students rushed to their appropriate posts. Time didn't wait for anybody, so it fell upon them to be in their respective roles before it was too late.
They only had several minutes to work with as Gigantomachia kept inching further and further away from the capture team. The fighting had the full attention of the available ESD in the forest and back at the base. Heroes were being taken back to emergency care by the officers as the fighting kept on progressing. It now fell upon the UA students to deliver on saving the city and its people.
Gigantomachia finally pulled himself close enough to the spot where the trap the students had set up was. One final step and he immediately stumbled forward into a sinkhole that the student mud created. His ability to soften anything he touches created the ground trap that swallowed up Gigantomachia.
Up next was Ibara. Her prayer accompanied the growth of her thorny hair as it entrapped the giant's neck. His chin had several vines dig deep into his lower jaw and provide several ropes for the stronger students to start yanking it down.
The villains still upon Gigantomachia's back were about to help free the trapped giant, when they themselves were laid siege upon by the other UA students.
Surrounded, only the height evened out the advantages both sides possessed. They were about to send away the young heroes when a blue metal disc buried itself into the rocky plating of Gigantomachia's back. Above them was Kaminari who had been flying with the help of the quirk his fellow schoolmate Yonagi possessed. He was just the right weight for her quirk, poltergeist, to carry him above the villains.
"Eat this, you vi-"
Hitting in midair were more pieces of rubble that were compressed down by Mr. Compress. It had been fatal enough for Kaminari to start losing consciousness as he started to plummet to the ground.
Unknown to the smug villain was the smile on Denki's face as he reached for the button on his disk shooter. They didn't realize they didn't stop him from using his attack.
"Tesla… Mine…"
With a press of the button, all the stored electricity in the disk arced outwards and hit everyone on Gigantomachia's back. An almost lethal amount of amps worth of electricity surged through the bodies of the villains. While they were starting to crisp up, the others were all trying to toss in the sedatives that Momo gave to them to throw into his mouth. It was a tranquilizer that had been concentrated to the point of being lethal for normal use on people. On a colossal beast the size of a skyscraper; it would be ideal to get at least one vial of the stuff into his mouth for him to swallow.
They needed to get several in if they wanted to knock Gigantomachia out cold. One oversight on their part was the power that came with his size. Second oversight was to put all of themselves at risk when they needed to focus on the objective rather than the time restraint.
All it took for Gigantomachia to repel the UA junior heroes was to blow on them.
Air swept up the forest behind them as well as the students all went flying like dust. Some were able to hold onto the trees that were strong enough to resist the foul air of the giant's breath. Most of them, however, were out for the count.
Many of the threats were seemingly out of the way for now. Gigantomachia started to try and fish himself out of the ground when something else landed on his back.
"Looks like they were trying to throw something in your mouth! Open wide!"
Mt. Lady returned from behind to try and pin the giant's jaw open with all her might. The closest person that could help in the situation was nobody except Mina.
She had a vial available to throw into Gigantomachia's mouth. She even used her new Slime Golem armor to protect herself as she approached the temporarily restrained behemoth. Her aim was straight and true as she started to throw it, until she heard Gigantomachia speak.
"Shortest route means keeping gnats down."
That voice drew out deep seated emotions of fear from within. The fear of failing. Whether or not this stuff could stop this brute. Seeing her mentor be left behind to face the danger alone while she ran away. Knowing that this could all be the end; no matter how hard she tried.
Losing Izuku forever after today.
In a fatal moment of hesitation, her grip slipped on the vial of tranquilizer she had in her hand. Gigantomachia grabbed Mt. Lady by the head and threw her off of him. His hand came down on her as she kept fumbling to grab the vial out of reach.
Out of the forest, Kirishima suddenly took Mina's place underneath the crushing hand of the giant as she went flying out of reach. He barely managed to push her out of the way as Gigantomachia was about to kill the pink girl. The hand came down hard enough to bury itself up to the wrist. Mina panicked for her childhood friend as Tetsutetsu approached the distressed girl to confirm that the boy was likely fine in his unbreakable form.
On the other side of things, Gigantomachia stood up to check up on the remaining villains he was tasked with bringing to Shigaraki. They were all unconscious, but alive. He put them on his back to continue his journey as the ESD aircrafts suddenly disengaged their tethers.
Things weren't completely over just yet for the junior heroes. There was a pinching sensation climbing up Gigantomachia's left arm; the same arm he used to try and kill Mina.
Scrambling up the limb was an unbreakable Red Riot. Kirishima made it up to the shoulder with two vials in his possession. With a solid wind-up, he chucked both vials with an overhand throw directly into the giant's mouth.
A chuckle escaped his lips as he started to fade off into unconsciousness. Tokage caught him before he hit the ground, using her floating body parts to do so.
Being crushed forced Kirishima to push his power to its limits and then some. It all felt worth it as he remembered what Nakamura said to him when he told the boy to run all those years ago. He finally understood the man when he told the others to run to safety. All that regret turned into thanks for the sacrifice Haru made to save him and his friends that day.
Hitting Gigantomachia out of nowhere was a sudden vollet of heavy machine gun fire. He needed to shield his head as the penetrative power of these rounds were actually going fairly deep into his flesh in large volumes.
"All units, provide support to all active combatants! I want all medical staff to clear the field of all injured within the next five minutes! Where are we with talon?"
A numerous amount of ESD trucks and ATV armored vehicles all came rushing through the forest and started to lay heavy weapons fire into Gigantomachia. This actually managed to force back the giant even better than anything else up till then. Some of the armored vehicles had these large technologically advanced looking guns mounted on the top of them. These vehicles were not light to say in the least, yet they started to extend out these stabilizing legs out the side while deploying ground spikes to further reinforce their stability.
While the backup were taking care of the threat, medical officers all started to establish a medical base for the wounded. Squads of officers armed to the teeth were already escorting medical personnel into the forest to start scanning and assisting the situation. Carriers were starting to even hover down to different parts of the forest to drop off more ESD to help the fight against the liberation forces.
Students were being carried into the tents already set up when the charging sounds of the cannons were starting to increase in pitch. Some of the students watched at the first volley from these futuristic weapons all hit their mark.
"Fire!"
Five rounds from these railguns all hit Gigantomachia and went right through him. Two were through his chest while the others punctured his lower abdomen. He fell back on his ass as he looked down at his now fatal wounds. In comparison to the other smaller bullet wounds, these were now starting to bleed profusely. Blood even started to erupt from his mouth as the pain started to set in.
"AAAAAAAAAA!"
Commanding officer of the ESD reinforcement instructed his men to hold fire while allowing the rail guns to charge again. Taking a moment to analyze their enemy, the ESD awaited for the next development before continuing their assault.
Screaming to the high heavens, Gigantomachia tried to stop the bleeding in the front while being unable to do so for the back. He lost blood by the gallons and it showed with how much red he had dripping off of him. In the ear of the commander, the comm informed him of the incoming support.
"... Copy. Talon inbound with VIP!"
"Talon inbound with VIP!"
The message was both called in as well as shouted to those in the immediate vicinity. All the junior heroes, still conscious, were curious as to what the hell that meant. Their answer came just a few short moments later.
Approaching the disoriented Gigantomachia was an unmanned drone by the codename 'Talon'. It had a powerful weapon attached to it, which launched itself directly at the Giant before burying itself into his eye socket and into his brain. Navigating itself with the camera built into the tip of it allowed it to hit its target with pinpoint accuracy.
A few violent twitches occured before the ordinance then went off from inside of the goliath's skull. Blood and gore along with enlarged bone shards sprayed all over the field as Gigantomachia had the right side of his head blown off.
It slumped back and created a minor earthquake as the dead body slammed into the forest behind it.
ESD had evacuated the danger zone and were now approaching the unconscious villains that were trying to hitch a ride on its back. Coming to after tumbling to the ground, the remaining league members were shocked to not only see Gigantomachia now dead, but now they were all surrounded with officers pointing their guns at them.
"Put your hands on your heads and lie flat on the ground!"
They had no choice but to comply if they wanted to remain alive. Bringing this whole affair to a close, the officers apprehended the villains and took them back to the armored transport while still keeping the villains at gunpoint.
Back at the medic camp with the UA students, the junior heroes couldn't believe what had happened. It was close, but they still managed to do it.
They won the battle.
A light in the darkness that was this whole war against the Paranormal Liberation Force. They actually managed to win.
