For the most part, things had reached a relative peace within the fortress walls of UA Academy and its inhabitants.
People were still a bit on edge with their normal lives waiting for them back at home. A lot of the tension had been elected to be ignored by those who were desperately in need of some normality in their uprooted lives.
Students were given the ability to resume their studies with their families being guaranteed their safety while doing so. On the bright side of things, the world outside seemed to finally reach a breaking point where criminals and public safety were now balancing each other out with criminal activities now hitting a plateau in rising numbers. Things were finally starting to look as though they were returning to a relative level of stability.
This didn't mean that all was well for everybody within the walls of UA Academy, however.
Many of the students were off to class for a majority of the day. Quite a few of them started to notice something whenever they came back after classes or when they would wander out of their dorms to go take care of some sort of errand.
The UA dorm mother, the same man who incited an angry mob to try and lynch him out in the open, looked worse for wear as the days passed. He was more present after he went through the grueling training he subjected Mina and Izuku went through, though the times he remained at UA were filled with no shortage of grief from those who saw the man as nothing more than a violent degenerate.
A few parents of the students dorming on campus would be found screaming at the man as he just stood in place to accept their ire. They called Haru all sorts of horrid names as the person who was hired to look after their children. As an employee of UA Academy; Haru just stood in silence while he became an emotional punching bag from the stressed parents who found the man to be an ideal way to vent their frustrations. Not only that, other people who knew this man from his violent outburst still held a grudge against the individual.
None of the students could stomach the rough treatment that Nakamura was being subjected to. Students who found their families' confronting the passive caretaker were adamant in defending the man against such hurtful treatment. He would just tell them to move along to allow their family to vent their concerns to the one who worked as the one providing the student's daily needs.
Needless to say, these occurrences would create some unnecessarily tense situations between the students and the people they were related to.
Had things remained on the confrontational level, things would have perhaps remained amicable for the public punching bag that was Nakamura. His luck wasn't so good as to grant him that much peace.
Arriving downstairs for breakfast, Kyoka and Izuku were greeted with the sight of a few of their classmates who were lounging around the commons on their days off. Returning to this atmosphere filled that empty part of Midoriya he felt remained vacant for too long these past few weeks. All his friends were safe and sound without the worry of the world at large dampening their time together.
"Yo! Was wondering when you would join us, you lovebirds."
Kaminari gave the fresh arrivals a light ribbing as to why they showed up later than the others. They took the teasing in good stride as they went to get their share of breakfast that sat upon the dining room table in thermal serving trays for those who arrived later in the day.
A sumptuous selection of different tempura accompanied by a selection of salads to the side with rice being freshly made that morning all looked absolutely decadent to the starving couple that started to pick out their selection of fried foods for their breakfast.
They wolfed down everything in a matter of minutes after the exertion their morning exercise demanded of them. Kyoka kindly took her dishes along with Izuku's to the sink to wash and dry their plates before leaving them in their appropriate cabinets. This diligence on Jiro's part had been a common practice of sorts amongst the rest of the students of UA after the increasingly concerning pattern of abuse they all found Nakamura caught up in with the random civilians out for blood with their dorm mother.
Nobody liked to see Haru being yelled at for no good reason other than the fact he brandished a gun against a civilian crowd. Just yesterday, a family was all yelling at the man while he was returning from finishing his laundry duties from the other dorms. The grandmother and mother were screaming bloody murder at the male caretaker for being nothing more than a violent degenerate who deserved to rot in prison for his reckless display of anger. Haru simply agreed and accepted their vitriol as several students were turned away by their dorm mother to return to their dorms for the day while he endured the verbal abuse. Their help would only put them in the crosshairs of the angry family and paint them as a product of Nakamura's unbecoming nature.
The girl who's family had been putting Nakamura up against the fire screamed at her family to stop their needless abuse before Haru just told the girl to just return to her dorm. His melancholy in combination with her classmates' insistence had the girl tearfully return to her dorm while her parents and grandparents all unloaded their anger and frustrations upon the man who spent hours late into the evening to teach her about mathematics. Her grades were helped because this man whom she first thought was far too busy to assist in academics committed to those he cared for without a moment's hesitation.
Needless to say, she unleashed hell upon her family at a later time when they went to go check up on their youngest child. Nakamura had been passing by the student outside as she yelled into her phone. He pushed the girl to reconsider her stance and even made the teen make amends the same night she argued with her family. Though her family wanted to remain angry, they relented and agreed to leave the man who she vehemently defended alone for the time being.
This was just day one of Nakamura's misfortunes against those he absolutely fucked off.
The next day put him up against three more parents that all called Haru all sorts of ugly things right into his face. His response was to just accept their scorn without causing a fuss in any sort of way. He even did his best to usher the encounter out of eyeshot to keep the students from getting involved.
One male student had been unfortunately passing by at the time and actually threatened his mother with physical violence if she were to continue her embittered speech. Nakamura immediately ignored the woman to properly discipline the teenage boy over his unbecoming behavior. The woman found herself speechless at the sight of the man who she called a motherless monster teaching her stubborn son about being a better person before she witnessed her boy approach her and apologize for his unbecoming behavior. She already had been accustomed to aggressive behavior from her boy; seeing him listen so obediently before coming forth with an honest apology left her a bit lost over what she wanted to do next.
Leaving the family to discuss their next steps towards a healthier relationship was the least Nakamura felt he needed to do for this group of individuals. The other two incidents where he got the worst of it were thankfully left unwitnessed by the other students. If he could help it, these incidents would never reach the attention of the students who needed his help. Not his drama. For Haru, this was all just him facing the consequences of his angry outburst. He wouldn't have done what he did if he wasn't ready for the repercussions of his wrathful remarks.
Everyone in the dorms was already aware of their dorm mother's increasing absence for some time now. Their joy of getting their dorm mother back felt severely dampened by the abuse he had to endure by those that so many students felt partially responsible for. Going so far as to address the incidents, Nakamura disclosed to the dorms with students whose families went out of their way to yell at him when he pulled a gun and threatened a crowd with violence while doing so. Context helped to keep everyone understanding of their classmate's family's position and prevent any sort of unnecessary bullying from occurring.
His consistent guidance didn't go ignored by the students who were under his care as their dorm mother. Small improvements to the students ranged from picking up after themselves more consistently to studying more often with subjects they struggled with. Haru's occasional visits helped to boost their morale to become better as students trying to achieve the best they can while attending UA Academy.
1-A felt their worries finally melt away enough after all the shit they weathered from the past year or so. Things were finally slowing down a bit and nobody could find it within themselves to deny their rare times of peaceful relaxation.
Izuku himself fell asleep with Momo's thighs being his pillows upon the common's couch while several of his male classmates were all passionately competing in a fighting game taking place on the TV. Moments like these were perfect illustrations that these were still a bunch of kids who were just trying to do their best to make their world a better place.
Even the girls in the class were cheering on the fighters on screen beating the others in a vibrant display of graphics. Only Momo had her attention on the sleeping face of her lover while the rest of the room allowed themselves to relax enough to enjoy themselves for the first time in ever.
Yaoyorozu had always been a bit of an old soul amongst her peers. Her upbringing made it difficult to bond with her friends over basic things that she felt she had missed out on due to her privileged lifestyle. Momo didn't resent her life nor did she resent the parents who lovingly brought her into this world. At times, she couldn't fight the feeling that she somehow missed out on all the things that would have made her more relevant to her friends' experiences.
Midoriya never let Momo fall into this trap of hers as long as he had something to say against it.
There were times when Momo felt a bit alienated from the group in the past when they would all become excited over a common subject that she had no experience with. Movies, music, pop culture; many of these things just wiffed over her head while the rest of her classmates all convened in conversation.
There moments never were allowed to develop into full blown loneliness as Izuku always could pick up whenever Momo felt a bit estranged by the subject of conversation. It did help that he never really found one subject more intriguing than others when conversation did erupt over something the group collectively found interesting. All of it felt the same to the open ended compendium of useless information that was Midoriya Izuku.
Watching Midoriya sleep peacefully upon her lap felt far more entertaining to Momo than the game occurring on the common's TV screen. Her eyes drank in the details of Izuku's peaceful expression as her hand caressed his silky soft hair.
This man had her heart in his hands. She couldn't think of another man more kind or loving that could command her love like he could. Just having him asleep peacefully upon her leg filled Momo with so much joy over how she was his as much as he was hers. All she wanted was to make sure her lovers all could feel this peaceful as Midoriya did while asleep right here, right now.
Leaning her head against her left hand as it propped the elbow on top of the couch backing, the matured beauty let her touch wander across the peaceful face of her lover in complete sensual bliss. It almost hurt how much she loved this man who shared his most vulnerable pieces from within his heart with this person who felt so out of his league. Counting the days she spent with Izuku still didn't feel like enough of a commitment to show her lover how much he meant to her.
It was because Momo had been so sidetracked by her sleeping partner's features that she had enough peripheral attention to notice the subtle sounds of some sort of noise happening outside of the dorm. Peering out the windows, she could spot a small group of students rushing out to check out something happening out of eyesight. She brought the other's attention to the excitement happening outside, to which they all started to get curious as to why there was such a commotion happening on a day off for them.
Outside
In front of a dorm that belonged to a second year class, Haru had been assaulted by an enraged father that looked to have swallowed three bookshelves for how large his build looked to be. Nakamura had wrapped up his cleaning duties for the day when the solidly built man suddenly stormed up to the unsuspecting dorm mother and decked him square in the jaw. Not even a courtesy warning was given to Haru before he was sent into the floor with that single punch.
"You touched my daughter's underwear?! You sick fuck!"
Before he could pull himself up onto his knees, a solid kick landed straight into Nakamura's stomach. He had no choice but to let the pain recede enough so that he could start getting back up.
Another solid stomp from the angry father planted itself right onto Nakamura's head. This stomp immediately had been followed up with two more as the man exercised his frustrations into brutalizing Haru's head with the bottom of his shoe. Following the stomps were more kicks; some of which landed the toe of the man's shoe into Haru's face. Soft bones broke and caused blood to pour freely from his nose and mouth. Nakamura got the absolute shit beaten out of him before anybody else realized what had been happening outside.
A few male students sprinted to Nakamura's aid with their quirks drawn to repel this psychopathic person beating their dorm mother without mercy. They knew better than to hurt the one who assaulted their caretaker, though that temptation fought tooth and nail to become realized when these young men saw their dorm mother spewing blood out of his face. Even his breathing sounded painful with the broken ribs he had after taking such a brutal beating.
The noise drew a crowd of students that all saw a fully grown man who was screaming bloody murder at several teenagers restraining him who were shouting their own death threats at the man who attacked their dorm mother out of the blue. This incident even drew a few members of class 1-A to see their caretaker bleeding out onto the grass with a broken nose, bruised face, and broken bones that made it difficult to even sit up. Several students were scared for their dorm mother's life as he looked absolutely beaten to hell. His muttering to get the students to calm down were muddled with the sounds of him struggling to breathe normally. It was clear to everyone that he didn't do a thing to defend himself against the man who assaulted him out of nowhere.
Out of all the students who were finding it difficult to stop themselves from killing this random man, Two were already about to do just that without remorse.
Bakugou didn't even want to use his quirk to kill this motherfucker. Squeezing down on this man's throat with only his bare hands until they stopped breathing felt more than adequate for what this fucker deserved for trying to fuck with Nakamura. Izuku was a bit deeper in his hatred against this person who brutalized his father out of their own misguided frustrations.
What Midoriya felt then and there was unlike anything he had felt his entire life. Trying to be an understanding person throughout his life left very little room for Midoriya to experience anything but reluctant forgiveness for those who wronged him. He never felt the hatred that came with watching another person abuse someone he cared for personally. Watching Nakamura look so physically broken sent his mind spiraling downwards into the pits of unexplored thoughts never meant to be thought of by normal people.
"Are you insane?! Fuck off, you piece of shit!"
"Leave Haru-san alone, you faggot!"
Hearing these young men mouth off to their elders left the man who beat Nakamura angry beyond belief. Life felt already difficult enough at it were; having children disrespect him even further left the man angrier than what he thought was possible.
"You brats! Stay out of the affairs of adults, you-"
Suddenly, the man sensed a bone chilling glare shoot right through him. Not a peep could muster itself out of his mouth as the adult scanned the line of students gathered around to bear witness to the barbaric acts of his rage. His eyes landed on a presence in the crowd of young adults looking on in absolute disgust. Although he couldn't make out the exact face that gave him the intimidating glare, those eyes were like emerald fire that burned deep into his subconscious. What he felt was a hatred that bore into the man like a branding iron. It paled in comparison to the feeling of hatred he felt from Nakamura several days ago; though the intensity certainly didn't lack in comparison. Whoever had laid their eyes upon him were just a hair breadths away from murdering the adult right where he stood.
"You…"
Hearing such a familiar voice from out of the mob of angry UA students had the man turn to the source of the voice. He had a split moment to look at the approaching girl who looked at the man with a genuine emotion of disgust at what he just did.
Emerging from the crowd was an amazonian girl with long blonde hair approaching the attacker with her fist wrapped tightly into a ball. The man himself felt a bit exposed as he watched the young woman whose honor he was trying to protect approach him with a look in her eyes that said only one thing. That thing she wanted to say translated more to a sentiment more than anything else.
"MONSTER!"
Punching her father square in the face, the student used her enhanced strength to send her dad flying backwards and out of the grips of the male students who were keeping the man from attacking Nakamura.
Tumbling over himself, the man went flying for a few meters before he landed flat on his face on the hard brick pavement. Pushing his face off the ground granted the man the short opportunity to watch his daughter approach him with another punch at the ready. What was once his sweet baby girl now had her arm cocked back to hit her father in the face for what he did to her school's dorm mother.
"B-baby. Wait. I-I did this for yo-"
Another punch landed directly into his left cheek. He gained some impressive air with the force of the blow that knocked out several teeth. Landing again in a very painful fashion, the man looked on helplessly as his own daughter approached him with absolute hatred in her eyes.
"If you dare say you attacked Nakamura for me, I'll break your legs…"
Before she could take another step towards her frightened father, a hand caught the teenager by her shoulder. The voice of a man she knew as her dorm mother talked some sense into the enraged girl.
"Iori… Don't… Do this…"
Wheezing breaths between words had the upset teenager hesitate in even arguing against Nakamura. Despite his injuries and difficulties breathing, he still stopped the young woman from trying to hurt her father any further. Haru was in absolute agony with all the injuries he endured from his beating. Broken ribs, severe head trauma, internal bleeding; his wounds were severe enough to warrant him a visit to the emergency room as of ten minutes ago.
"H… He was jus… Sca…"
Unable to even finish his words, Nakamura blacked out from his injuries and fell flat onto his face. All the students present all rushed to his aid.
To their horror, Nakamura wasn't breathing. A male student who knew CPR performed the life saving procedure on the man until he managed to get Haru to start breathing again.
Being the closest one to Haru who could carry him, the one about to beat her father senseless bridal carried the injured man to the medical ward within the school. Nobody wanted to leave the man alone until they knew he would be alright.
Evening
The entire hallway that had Nakamura's hospital room occupying it was filled with concerned students all too worried for their caretaker's wellbeing. Among the students lining the walls of the corridor, the girl who's father had put Haru in such a critical state wept openly with her friends hugging the poor girl as she cried out of guilt for her father's brash actions. Nobody else blamed the girl since Haru taught them all better than to be shallow with their personal issues. She clearly cared deeply for her dorm mother, so the others left well enough alone while those close to the girl offered their emotional support to their friend.
Izuku sat next to Katsuki on a waiting bench a few meters from where the door leading into their mentor's room was. Neither teen could find it within themselves to even speak after what they saw after Haru got beaten within an inch of death. Recovery girl herself even confirmed that the man had been beaten seriously enough to warrant emergency care for his injuries.
So many of the students questioned how this seemingly invincible man had been almost killed by one random guy after he proved himself so competent in fighting. The elderly woman's answer for the naive young heroes in training didn't exactly put the young adults at ease with how straightforward it was in honesty.
"He didn't defend himself. All the attacks he took landed with the intended amount of damage being done. Whatever past experience you may have with Nakamura, the reality is that this was a quirkless man who was beaten by another who possessed a strength enhancing quirk that could punch through a concrete wall."
Hearing this truth had a very heavy effect on everyone who heard the school nurse speak nothing but the truth on the matter. These students all knew of the kindness this person demonstrated on a daily basis for their sake. They all wanted to be here for the man who took care of them when the school required the students to all dorm at the school for their attendance to be possible. He made this place home for the students who depended on his help to adjust to this new situation.
The man who put Nakamura in the hospital faced no charges due to the current situation being more complicated than necessary. For the time being, all the person faced was just a slap on the wrist with a warning of being ejected from the school if he were to pull something like this ever again in the future.
Unknown to the students, this order had been a direct order from Nakamura himself.
Eventually, nighttime fell and left the entire school to turn in for the evening. In the hallway outside of Nakamura's room, students were camping out with one another with blankets and pillows being brought in so that they could sleep where they wanted to stay for the night.
Everyone from class 1-A were camped out in the hallway with their fellow schoolmates while awaiting Haru's eventual recovery. The most emotionally disturbed individual out of everyone on UA grounds was in the room with her mother.
Leaving his friends asleep in the hallway, Izuku carefully approached the hospital room and entered with absolute care in not disturbing the other students. Inside of the room were the people he knew would be there no matter what. Eri was asleep with evidence of her crying for her daddy stuck to her cheeks in the form of dried tears. She was snuggled up under the blankets with an almost comatose Nakamura hooked up to a machine that provided positive pressure for his lungs to provide the broken ribs enough shape for the bones to heal properly. Seated next to the bed in a chair was his mother who looked at her son with a gentle smile that also expressed her heartbreak over her lover's broken physical state.
"Izuku. Are you okay?"
All he could say in response was what he felt for his heartbroken mother.
"I'm not the one in the bed… Not this time, at least…"
An understanding smile filled with melancholy greeted Izuku as the older Midoriya patted the vacant seat next to her. Her son joined his mom in their joined sorrow over the state of the man who they both cared about dearly.
Sitting in this quiet environment with his mother, memories of his childhood with this man who never abandoned Izuku started to roll back into the young man's mind.
Years of Haru being his father when he never had one filled the teen with heartbreak. He never understood the pain that Nakamura experienced when he sat next to Izuku while the boy recovered from his injuries. Now that the shoe was on the other foot, it made Izuku sick to his stomach with worry for his father. The times Nakamura sat where he now was with only his blind hope that his son would wake up again filled Izuku with a nauseating concern for his loved one. Seeing Eri huddled up against her one true parental figure after crying herself to sleep cemented how naive Izuku had been in the past regarding the concerns of those who were where he sat now. This was a man who was his family. He was terrified that his father would never wake up again.
Understanding her son's fears, Inko grasped her boy's hand into her own. Izuku accepted the kind gesture and leaned into his mother's support over how lost he felt right then and there. Nothing else could be said as the quirkless man who endured the worst of life now suffered for his son's sake. Sleep claimed Izuku slowly enough that he didn't realize when he finally blacked out against his mother's shoulder.
Later
Waking up alone at an ungodly hour in the night, Inko realized that someone in the room had been getting dressed when she finally awoke.
Her eyes adjusted from her groggy state to see that Nakamura was now dressed in a fine Italian suit with Eri still asleep in the bed that he had been admitted to. Only Inko saw her man now stood with the intention of returning to his business. Despite his calm demeanor his lover saw clearly through him regarding his real physical state.
"You're still hurt."
Haru didn't even turn his head to acknowledge Inko's comment when he responded.
"I still have business to attend to. Don't worry, I'll be right back before anybody realizes I'm gone…"
This response wasn't good enough for her. Inko gently guided her son's sleeping head to the other side of his chair before standing up and grabbing Haru's right arm. They stood in silence as Haru ignored the need to pass out from the pain. To him, the sensation of pain fell secondary to everything else he needed to accomplish. His lover's need to see him better before he did anything else fell into a category of secondary needs that he didn't have the privilege of allowing.
"... Please."
Inko's voice broke with the heartache she felt for her man's torment. She knew why he did all of this; it didn't make any of it any easier for her to endure. For once, Inko wanted the one she loved so much to just stop and be happy with the family he cherished.
"... Stay."
All Nakamura could do to comfort her was to take her shaking hand into his before pulling her in for a kiss. The taste of his lips along with the affection he poured into the contact fueled her desire for this man who sacrificed everything to save her son. She clung to the man she gave her heart to; as if she could stop him from torturing himself even further with this alone.
They finally broke apart. Haru buried his face into Inko's hair and savored the intoxicating scent that could only belong to Inko. Time cruelly marched on by the seconds as these two wanted each other to be the happiest they could be. Neither of them wanted this to end.
"I'll be back before morning."
Left alone in the room, Inko felt her tears leak out the corners of her eyes for the man who loved her so dearly. She knew how alone Haru was in his struggles against this cruel world. The sleeping children in the room alongside her were both her world as well as his. Sometimes she cursed the pain that the world attached to such innocent beings worthy of only the best love their parents could give them.
Her soul mate took on more than what he deserved to protect those he cared for. She loved and hated him for how much of her heart he held in his hands.
