This wasn't fair.

He knew how horrible of a human being he had been, but even when he accepted the consequences of his actions; there was always something more to wrench his wounds open even more.

Having both Izuku and Bakugou chasing him when he was certain he was done with this fight gouged out more of his already heavily worn out heart. What Haru wanted to do was say goodbye to these two after the fight. Nakamura didn't have it in him to say farewell to them without having to do it at the last possible moment. They meant too much to him.

Katsuki was a child he swore to watch over out of a promise he made to a friend he wronged horribly. Haru did everything in his power to guide Masara's son through the difficulties of life and teach the boy the values of being a man. Despite being confident in Katsuki's abilities to cope with life, not being able to be there for the young man he helped grow from being a child left a deep and painful void in his chest.

Izuku had been someone who was a son to him. Everything between himself and the boy was something that helped Midoriya come to terms with his life without his biological father. He never felt as though he missed out on having a father figure with Haru fulfilling that role in spades.

So much of who he was had been the result of Haru guiding the boy on the path to become the best he could be. He wasn't even aware of the fact that this may be the last they would see each other in person. The fact that Nakamura currently was the only one aware of the truth wounded him unlike anything else.

"... Did we get him?"

Both of the young heroes were tense while waiting for a possible counter assault from their target. Their hearts were beating so loud that it felt as though their eardrums were about to pop.

After the smoke cleared enough for them to make out the rest of the street, Katsuki realized that Bloodsoaked was nowhere to be seen. Right where the trench ended was nothing but torn up rubble instead of a body.

"Fuck, he's on the move!"

Neither Izuku or Katsuki wasted any time giving chase to the serial murderer at large. Tracking his location was only a matter of checking the mobile device given to Midoriya by his surrogate older brother. Izuku led the chase with the tracking ping being frequently checked on as he and Bakugou gave chase to one of the deadliest criminals known to mankind.

Elsewhere

Frantically sweeping through his clothing while running proved to be a task more difficult in practice than imagined. Running as he checked his clothes, Bloodsoaked desperately tried to find the tracker planted on him by Keigo that likely found its way onto him during their fight.

He frequently checked his electronics for possible tampering as well as inspecting all his gear whenever he donned the mask that allowed him to work as Bloodsoaked. The phone and comms had no signs of bugging, so the only other possible means of planting a tracker was by pinning a physical bug on his person. Eventually, Haru found the rice grain sized device stuck onto the bottom hem of his left pant leg. All he could do was curse his own carelessness over not taking the proper precautions in his state of emotional distress. Before Bloodsoaked could crush the tracker, another explosion blew the street he was running down wide open. His body once again had been engulfed in a cloud of smoke and ash created by the blast aimed to take him down.

Coming to a stop about twenty meters away from the detonation zone, Katsuki cautiously kept his arm aimed directly where he knew he hit the killer while Izuku landed on a nearby rooftop of a neighborhood home.

These two managed to catch up to the killer just as Bloodsoaked discovered the tracker. Keeping their eyes glued on this criminal was imperative now that they had him on the run for some outlandish reason. Whatever had him fleeing from the scene, they saw it as their opportunity to exploit the masked murderer and hopefully find the one chink in his armor in order to end his reign of terror.

From the smoking crater, the sounds of heavy footsteps could be heard over the crackling of the burning asphalt. Like a burning phantom, Bloodsoaked emerged from the cloud of burning toxic gas with his clothes stuck with patches of molten tar engulfed in flames. His boots were all Izuku and Bakugou could hear when Bloodsoaked approached the cautious duo.

They couldn't falter now. Even as the atmosphere felt twenty times heavier, both of them clenched their teeth and endured the pressure while standing in front of this legendary murderer. It wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination for Bakugou or Midoriya to stay on their feet underneath the gaze of this masked killer. Just breathing required an immense amount of focus to keep themselves from going light headed. What these two realized while facing this individual was how small they felt while he simply took one purposeful step at a time towards them.

This wasn't a confrontation for the criminal, this was an apex predator eyeballing his next meal. For Bloodsoaked, they could just feel how large the chasm was between them. To him, they were prey animals that were standing too close to the hunter out for their meat.

For Haru, he just wanted them gone. Trying to scare these boys into running proved to be a fruitless endeavor no matter how hard he pressed down upon them.

These boys were reflecting a bravery that he wanted them to possess as men. Now it was here to bite him in the neck as now Haru was likely going to have to fend off these two in his desperate attempt to escape.

Years of watching these two become the men they are now made this whole affair far more painful for Nakamura.

He saw Izuku blossom into a man capable of being someone who could challenge the world with the wisdom bestowed upon him. Once he grew into his adulthood, he knew Izuku would be nothing short of unstoppable.

Bakugou became someone who exceeded Haru's expectations. Fear of messing up over how the blonde young man would see his teachings left the results beyond what Nakamura should have expected from Katsuki. This fear had nothing to do with Kaqtsuki and his own fortitude of character. Nakamura's fears were all sourced from his own insecurity over not being able to provide Bakugou with the lessons he wanted the boy to learn. Nothing short of a kind, fearless person who grew to be better than their shortcomings for the sake of their loved ones. Watching Bakugou fall in love despite his anger and stubbornness truly made Haru happy that he too could still find someone who wanted to share their life with the seemingly overly abrasive Katsuki. He knew that a kind woman like Fuyumi would be the perfect partner for someone in need of nurturing only she could provide.

Knowing how brutally honest Katsuki was in comparison to the mature soul that was the eldest daughter of the Todoroki household, the two of them would make an ideal pair. There was nothing to worry about regarding the future these two would share together.

They would take good care of each other. They were nothing short of soul mates.

Witnessing Izuku be so carefully loved by Mina filled the concerned older man with some hope over Izuku's future. Someone as compatible for the future hero's needs like Ashido left the man confident that Midoriya would be in good hands, no matter what.

Perhaps the damage he left behind wouldn't leave behind a complete disaster. All he had left was this infinitesimal hope that he wasn't even sure existed anymore for someone like him.

Dropping the intimidation act, Haru cleared his mind of all immediate doubts. If he didn't endure the actions necessary to see his mission through to the end, none of this would have mattered. A mission of this magnitude required him to sacrifice anything and everything. No allowance of weakness was allowed anymore. Not at this phase.

Now it felt as though the pressure emanating from Bloodsoaked reversed itself, somehow.

A fight was inevitable.

The air felt stiff all around them. Time itself refused to move until the tension between these three snapped like a loose thread. Every second stretched on for a lifetime. Until…

"Delaware Smash!"

Pulling a fast one from his vantage point, Izuku launched a blast of air from a kick that engulfed the entire area in front of him. Taking the initiative for starting the fight was an advantage both he and Bakugou needed to grab for themselves. This surprise attack didn't land on its intended target as Bloodsoaked swung his right arm directly into the shockwave. The counterforce from his fist cut through the wave and left the part of the street he stood upon the only intact piece of ground left behind by Midoriya's special move.

"Demolition Wa-"

Trying to catch Bloodsoaked in his blindspot didn't go well for Bakugou. Before finishing his attack, there was an impact on his chest that knocked the air out of his lungs while sending him flying backwards. The sudden shock of the blow paralyed Katsuki long enough for him to go sailing across the air into the river several dozen meters behind him.

"Kachan!"

From what he could tell, Bloodsoaked hadn't used a fist to strike his childhood friend. Rather than a closed fist, the killer had his hand spread wide open in a palm strike. He had to suppress the desire to go check on Katsuki in order to keep Bloodsoaked from escaping.

Bloodsoaked turned his attention back to Izuku. Through the smoke, he witnessed Midoriya pull out something out of thin air. Two black curved branches likely made of Black Whip sprouted out of the young hero's hand which were pulled back with a thinner strand of black wiring. From his experience after being piloted during his fight against Lady Nagant, Izuku worked day and night to try and replicate the one attack that would increase the effectiveness of his ranged attack. Weeks upon weeks of practice finally yielded a similar enough result that at least could be used effectively enough in battle.

A crude ranged weapon that utilized a controlled high tension spring that increased the speed of his Black Whip took quite a lot of focus to maintain for Midoriya. He called this new move…

"Black Bow Shot!"

Launching the arrow made of his Black Whip, Izuku created an attack that moved past the speed of a bullet. The arrow itself lacked the compressed form from his first time using this move, but it still cut through the air with a deadly velocity.

Hesitation in fatally wounding the killer would only give Bloodsoaked another opening to turn the fight in his favor. In fact, piercing the torso would be a bonus if he could manage to do so without killing this monster. There was even a sonic cone that formed around the sharpened tip of his shot as the attack exceeded the sound barrier. It connected with the masked villain successfully.

As expected, the arrow didn't pierce the durable clothing Bloodsoaked wore. What did happen when the shot connected ended up entangling the killer in a mass of his Black Whip.

Allowing the impact to activate the webbing had been one of the greater challenges in getting the attack to work. Trying to time out the webbing just ended up with whatever he shot being punched through with a mach speed spear, making the attack far too deadly for its own good. Learning to give his Black Whip a secondary function without having to manually activate took a good amount of time to program into his quirk. Not even the fifth inheritor could pull off this level of control during his entire hero career.

Midoriya had finally pinned Bloodsoaked with his quirk. Knowing about his immense strength, Izuku immediately glued himself to the floor with more black tendrils while sending more black webs down the length of Black Whip to entangle Bloodsoaked even more. Pouring all he could in entrapping the murderer, Bloodsoaked was engulferd in a mass of black in less than several seconds. Izuku didn't let up for a moment, even after he heard a metallic ping from within the black mass of his quirk.

Danger Sense lit up like a fireworks show in his skull when the black ball of webbing tore open with the force of an explosion coming from within. Thankfully, Black Whip absorbed most of the deadly force from the grenade. However, it wasn't enough to keep Bloodsoaked from escaping.

Utilizing Fa Jin with Danger sense, Midoriya dodged the flurry of punches while protecting his neck from the knife sparking against his armored gloves. Pushing himself to the maximum capacity of his reaction time as well as his speed challenged Izuku to the pinnacle of his abilities. One wrong move and he could kiss his short life goodbye for good.

"AP Shot!"

Both combatants were forced to break off from one another as a lethal shot coming from the soaking wet Bakugou almost hit Bloodsoaked in the back of his head. Because of the momentary distraction, Katsuki and Izuku were able to recollect themselves.

They were once again facing off with Bloodsoaked as he brandished his knife. These young men knew this fight was theirs to finish. With how well things were going, that hope driving them forward still felt tangible for them.

For Bloodsoaked, he couldn't have felt more exhausted if he tried. His heart wept at the fact he had to now likely hurt more people he loved to accomplish his mission.

The mask hid his agony well enough. What the two heroes thought was rage was in fact the shaking of pure heartbreak.

He wanted to say goodbye without having to wear this fucking mask. Now, Haru doesn't even have that anymore.
