Ash Ketchum slumped back on his couch, utterly drained after his intense showdown with Caulifla and Kale. Between Kale's berserk strength and Caulifla's relentless energy, Ash had barely come out of it without collapsing. Pikachu was curled up on the armrest, exhausted from the wild battle, and Lucario was meditating again, regaining his calm.
"Maybe," Ash muttered to himself, "this is finally the end of the weirdness."
As if on cue, his front door flew open with a loud bang, causing Ash to jump up. In sauntered a man wearing a long, red leather coat, a sword strapped to his back, and an absurdly confident grin on his face. His silver hair spiked in every direction, and despite the massive weapon on his back, he had a swagger that made it clear he wasn't here for a typical fight.
Ash blinked in disbelief. "Who… who are you?"
The man leaned against the doorframe, flipping a coin in the air with a smirk. "Name's Dante. Heard you've been collecting some challengers lately, Monarch," he said, eyes gleaming. "Figured I'd stop by and see what all the fuss was about."
Ash tensed up, expecting yet another fight, especially given Dante's weaponry and that confident aura he exuded. "Let me guess. You want to fight me too?"
Dante chuckled, shaking his head. "Nah, kid. You're probably used to all the punches and blasts by now. I'm not here to punch your lights out." He stood up straight and cracked his knuckles. "I'm here to challenge you to something much more intense."
Ash blinked, still on guard. "More intense? What could be more intense than a fight?"
Dante's grin widened as he snapped his fingers, and suddenly, rock music blasted through the room, the kind of track that made Ash think of underground nightclubs and fast motorcycles. Dante stepped forward, pointing at Ash dramatically. "A dance contest."
For a moment, Ash thought he had misheard. "A… what?"
"A dance contest," Dante repeated, nodding as if this was the most normal thing in the world. "You see, anyone can throw a punch, but not everyone can tear up the dance floor. So, what do you say, Monarch? Think you can keep up?"
Ash stared at Dante, utterly baffled. "Wait, hold on! You come in here, dressed like that, with a huge sword, and you want to challenge me to a dance contest?"
Dante shrugged, unfazed by Ash's confusion. "Yeah. It's a good way to blow off steam. Plus, I've already fought enough demons this week. Let's see if you've got rhythm."
Ash scratched the back of his head, completely thrown off. "I… don't think this is a good idea. I mean, dancing? Really? Shouldn't we battle Pokémon or something?"
"Pokémon are cool and all, but come on, Ash." Dante leaned in, giving him a cocky grin. "You really think being the Monarch is all about battles? You gotta have some style too." With a flick of his wrist, he pulled out a small, glowing orb. "This thing? It judges style points. The better you dance, the higher the score. Simple as that."
Ash glanced at the glowing orb, still not believing what he was hearing. "I don't even know how to dance like that. I mean, I've done some stuff with Pikachu, but…"
"Pika!" Pikachu chirped, still looking a bit unsure but perking up at the mention of dancing.
Dante laughed, shaking his head. "Don't worry. I'll go easy on you. Besides, if you're gonna be the Monarch, you gotta be able to do it all. Fights, challenges, and even dance-offs."
The music got louder, shifting into a heavy guitar riff that vibrated through Ash's living room. Dante's body immediately moved to the beat, sliding effortlessly into a series of smooth, coordinated steps that made him look like a rock star in his own right. His moves were sharp, flashy, and full of attitude, perfectly matching the intensity of the music.
"See? Simple stuff," Dante called over the music, grinning widely. "Your turn, kid."
Ash stood frozen in place. This had to be the strangest situation he had ever been in. He could handle legendary Pokémon, interdimensional beings, and even otherworldly challengers like the Saiyans, but a dance-off? And against Dante of all people?
Pikachu nudged Ash's leg, sparking a bit as if to say, We've gotten through crazier things. Let's just do it, Ash.
With a reluctant sigh, Ash stepped forward. "Alright… I guess we're doing this." He looked at Pikachu. "You ready, buddy?"
"Pika-pika!" Pikachu nodded, ready to join in.
The beat shifted again, becoming a bit more upbeat, and Ash took his first step forward, awkwardly trying to match the rhythm. His movements were stiff at first, clearly out of his element. He swung his arms and tried to mimic some of the things he'd seen in old dance videos, but it was clear that dancing wasn't his forte.
Dante snickered, still moving flawlessly to the beat. "Come on, kid! Loosen up! Dance like no one's watching!"
Ash grumbled under his breath but tried to pick up the pace. He gave a quick nod to Pikachu, who suddenly leaped into the air and started twirling with an Iron Tail move, adding some flashy sparks to their routine. Ash, feeling a bit more confident, decided to try something he'd seen Dawn do once—a quick spin followed by a sudden pose with Pikachu landing on his shoulder.
"Not bad," Dante called, clearly impressed by the teamwork. "But you're still holding back!"
Ash, emboldened by Pikachu's energy, tried harder. His movements became less rigid as he started to incorporate more energetic jumps and spins, letting Pikachu add electric sparks to every step. Before long, he was actually moving in sync with the beat, surprising even himself.
Dante grinned as he watched Ash and Pikachu. "There you go! That's the spirit! But let's see how you handle this!"
Without warning, Dante upped his game. He performed an aerial flip, landing perfectly with a quick series of breakdance moves, spinning on his hands before popping back up with a flourish. The glowing orb began to flash, signaling a high score for style.
Ash groaned inwardly. "How am I supposed to keep up with that?"
But he wasn't one to quit. Ash clenched his fists and took a deep breath. "Alright, Pikachu, let's give it everything we've got!"
Together, Ash and Pikachu launched into their final round. Pikachu leaped into the air, doing a series of flips while shooting Thunderbolts into the air, creating a dazzling light show. Ash followed suit, pulling off a series of quick spins and even managing a backflip, landing with a confident pose.
The room erupted in bright lights as the orb swirled, measuring their performance.
Dante stood back, clapping slowly. "Not bad, Ash. Not bad at all." He crossed his arms, smirking. "You've got some moves in you after all. Maybe with a bit more practice, you could actually give me a run for my money."
Ash, panting from the effort, rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Thanks, I guess. That was… definitely something different."
"Pika!" Pikachu added, sparking triumphantly.
Dante chuckled, his cool demeanor never wavering. "Well, kid, looks like you passed my challenge. Maybe I'll stick around and teach you a few more moves one day. But for now, I think you've earned a break."
As Dante turned to leave, he paused at the door and threw Ash a wink. "You ever need a demon hunter or just a good dance partner, you know where to find me."
And just like that, Dante was gone, leaving Ash standing in his living room, still trying to process what had just happened.
Ash glanced down at Pikachu. "This day just keeps getting weirder and weirder."
"Pika," Pikachu agreed, shaking his head with a little sigh.
