Scott sat outside watching the stars twinkle. Normally it would make him smile, but he was distracted today. His mind was on Dominique. Every day that drew to a close was a day closer to a life without her.
"Hey," a soft voice came as Tony came to join him.
"What are you doing here?" Scott asked, "Shouldn't you be home with your family?"
"My daughter is a genius," Tony said smiling proudly, "Also very cute but the point is she's a genius."
Good for her, Scott thought to himself sarcastically.
Tony was like a brother to Scott, but right now all Scott wanted was for night to pass so he could spend the day with Dominique.
"I was looking at Dom's scans," Tony said, "BJ tilted her head to the side and asked me what I was looking at. I explained the situation to her in age-appropriate language. She looks at me and says "can't you freeze it and then melt it"
"That's cute," Scott said, blinking away a tear. He looked away so Tony didn't see.
"Things are rough right now," Scott admitted.
"I get it," Tony said.
"I feel like this is my fault," Scott said, "I… if I had done things differently or if I didn't get mad when I did, maybe GOD wouldn't have made Dom sick."
Tony's expression was firm→ his voice gentle.
"Everyone makes mistakes," Tony said, "GOD isn't punishing you by making Dominique sick. BJ started talking about looking beyond your eyes."
"Looking… beyond your eyes?" Scott asked.
"Looking through the eyes of a child," Tony clarified.
"Well BJ is six," Scott said, "She thinks the solution to everyone wanting the same thing is to share."
Tony smiled.
"She's not wrong," he said.
"So… did you see anything through the eyes of a child," Scott asked.
"When I looked at the scans through BJ's eyes with the mind of an adult, I saw something interesting," Tony said, "If I can shift it even a quarter of an inch to the left or the right I can get the whole tumor."
Scott's eyes lit up.
