Echoes of Valor
Author Note: This is my first time attempting to write a story. I plan for this to be a long series taking place in the My Hero Academia universe, following a young pro hero named Jonathan Reed aka Dox and his girlfriend Aria Verano aka Flashfire. I don't own any characters licensed by the MHA universe, Dox and a number of characters to be introduced are some of my OCs. Enjoy!
Chapter 1: A New Beginning
As he stepped off of the plane at Haneda Airport, he couldn't help but be stunned he was actually in Japan. "Wow, we're actually here, Aria!" Jonathan says to the girl accompanying him. "Well, when you buy a plane ticket and board the plane you typically expect to arrive at a destination" Aria replies mockingly. "Yeah I know, I know… I just hope things here are different, you know? Like it'll take time for Molecular to find me again." Aria then looks at him with a bit of disapproval. "You really need to forget about him for a while! We're here to further our training as Pros! We're here to mentor fledgling heroes! You really need to get your head outta the clouds, honey." Her words cut him, but deep down Jonathan knew she was right. They came to Japan for a better life, a break. He had been a hero since he was twelve. Not like he had a choice, when a villain goes on a massacre in front of a child that can easily identify him, they typically wanna tie up any loose-ends. "Aria…" Jonathan starts. "No. Before you even say it the answer is no." Aria finishes her sentence by crossing her arms. "Fine. I'm just worried what if he comes here while we're helping the kids and hurts one of them? I could never live with myself if something like that happened." Jonathan's voice drops low before he continues, "What if-" Aria puts a hand over his mouth. "No what ifs. Lets focus on the here and now. And right now we have to get to UA before three or else we'll have to wait until Monday to do orientation and meet the kids.'' Jonathan can't help but grin under her hand as he licks her fingers, causing her to pull her hand away and squeal. "Yeah, Aria, you're right. As usual. Let's get to UA." And with that, several jet black tendrils snake out of his back. "I thought we were walking?" Aria Questions. "Oh come on, live a little! Lets make our entrance in style! Show up using our quirks to really make an impact on everyone!" As he speaks her eyes light up with a warm orange glow and her auburn hair sparks to life as its overtaken in flames. "That's a good point… Dox. Let's get going!" Jonathan can't help but smile at her sudden quirk usage. "Alright, Flashfire, let's go!" And with that the pair are heading to UA. As Aria soars through the air taking in all the scenery, Jonathan can be seen below using his tendrils to grab onto his surroundings and to swing and propel himself forward.
Using their quirks it only took the pair around forty-five minutes to make it to UA. They both land on the ground in front of the school and gawk at the massive outer walls. "This place does seem to be well protected." Jonathan says, his voice dripping with awe. "So this is gonna be our new home for a while, Aria. Looks like we'll at least be safe while on the ground. Plus our American hero licenses are accepted here, so we at least don't have to do licensing here in Japan.'' Aria looks towards Jonathan before she simply nods. "Are you ready to go in?" But before she finishes her sentence Jonathan is two steps ahead, already using his quirk to speed for the front door. "Hey! Wait up goofy!" Aria yells behind him as she runs to catch up. She manages to catch up to him at the door leading into the school's main hall. Jonathan is seen trying to open the door but the knob won't twist, but in the midst of his trouble a voice is heard from a small panel on the wall. "Name and reason for visit." The monotone voice says. "Huh?" Jonathan replied. "Name and reason for visit.'' Jonathan just stands and thinks for a moment, embarrassed the face behind the voice may have seen his struggle with the door. "Listen, either give me your name and the reason you're visiting UA or I'll have you escorted out by Hound Dog. Your choice." This time the voice sounds less than pleased. "I'm Jonathan Reed, and this is Aria Verano. We're the heroes Dox and Flashfire. UA contacted us and offered us an opportunity to come and help mentor the students due to our youth and experience as heroes." The voice returns, "Look I didn't want your whole life story. Even if you gave me a bullcrap reason like just visiting I'd have probably let you in anyway.'' Jonathan's face turns red with embarrassment and he tries to walk away but Aria grabs his shirt collar. "Where do you think you're going? We came all the way here and you're not walking away!" Though there is seriousness in her tone, Jonathan could feel the hint of mockery, too.
The pair walk into UA taking in the sight of all the students as they make their way to Principal Nezu's office. On the way there they see all manner of quirks: vine hair, explosive hands, tape elbows, engine legs, etc. Amazed by all the quirks around them they nearly pass the clearly labeled office of Principal Nezu. There's a buzz of excitement in the air as the pair stand in front of the door. Jonathan raises his hand and firmly knocks, and before the second thud a voice speaks. "Do come in!' Jonathan opens the door and holds it to allow Aria in first before following suit. "Please take a seat! Make yourselves at home! Tea?" Aria sits down and politely waves a hand to decline while Jonathan picks up a cup and allows Nezu to pour him a serving. "So I understand you two are the heroes from America?" Aria nods as Jonathan takes a sip from his tea before speaking. "Yes, I'm Dox, and she's Flashfire. But you can just call us Jonathan and Aria.'' Nezu smiles warmly. "Jonathan. Aria.'' He speaks nodding toward them each respectively. "It is my personal pleasure to have America's number two and eight heroes here to help further my students' education and combat training! I do hope you two enjoy the time you spend here in Japan. I'm afraid it might not be as exciting as your life back home, but I'm sure you most certainly won't find a lack of activities. Classes are almost over for the day, so you'll both begin your new positions as instructors on Monday at eight. In the meantime I'll have Shoto Aizawa, show you where the pair of you will be staying. Jonathan will be in the male dorms overlooking the male students, Aria you'll do the same for the female students." The pair makes eye contact realizing they'll be staying separate, Nezu notices but decides to continue speaking. "In the meantime get to know the students on your side of the dorms. It'll help in the long run if you form relationships now." Aria and Jonathan nod in unison as the office door opens. "There's Aizawa now. He will show you both to your rooms." Aizawa simply nods, exhaustion all over his face. He motions to the pair to get up and follow him. And with that the pair are shown to their rooms for the duration of their stay. Each walk in met with the faces of eager students eager to learn more about their new instructors!
And with that this chapter is done. As the story progresses I'm gonna slowly introduce more details like how Jonathan became Americas number two hero and more on who Molecular is, and why he wants Dox. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this introductory chapter!
