Day 2: Present

It was Duncan's birthday. Since he was only turning twenty-four, he didn't celebrate as he was planning a massive one next year. Instead, he invited a couple of his closest friends over and they had a small celebration.

Finally, the party ended as Duncan flopped on his couch and Gwen was saying her goodbyes to LeShawna and the others. Afterwards, she headed over to Duncan with a small object in her hands.

"How's it Dunc? Feeling old yet?" Gwen questioned, starting the conversation as she sat next to Duncan. Duncan pulled Gwen in for a hug until he felt a boxy figure in her grasp. He looked back at Gwen, waiting for an answer as she sighed and pulled out the box. It was a present. " Almost halfway to fifty."

"Eh. 'Least I got some epic presents this year." He stated as his eyes slowly started drawing itself to the box in Gwen's possession. "What's that?"

"Well, I got this for you. It's just that... you're not gonna see this coming."

Duncan stared at the box as he gave a quick peck onto Gwen's cheek before glancing back at the unusually shaped box. "You didn't have to get me a present. I mean, you're my girlfriend, so you're automatically off the hook."

Gwen raised an eyebrow as she slowly started taking the box back. "You don't want it? Good. You just saved me ninety bucks."

Pulling the box back, he grinned as he seized it into his possession. "Now why would I want to waste all your time when I can just open the present?" He asked Gwen and started unboxing the present. "Ninety bucks though. Wow, you really want a good present for your birthday, huh?"

"You could put it that way." Gwen joked, humming in a playful manner.

Once Duncan opened the box, it revealed a little... digital camera? He hadn't been expecting that. "A camera?" He questioned. It wasn't in an ungrateful way but in a more confused way. He hadn't ever really thought much about photography and wasn't expecting Gwen to buy it for him. There was these couple instances where Duncan would stare at Gwen's digital camera in awe but it hadn't been something he really wanted.

"I told you, you wouldn't have expected it." Gwen said, nudging Duncan. "I sort of had a feeling, y'know?"

"Yeah, you got me. I was expecting a new skateboard or something." Was all Duncan could respond as he curiously checked out all the features of the camera. He was curious about how it worked and it wasn't the worst gift. It was just a surprise.

Gwen smiled back as she shrugged. "I wanted to be unpredictable."

"Well you definitely passed that." Duncan chuckled, wrapping an arm across Gwen's shoulders. "Thanks though. Still can't believe you'd spend ninety bucks though."

It had been the next day and the post-birthday faze slightly settled in. Duncan was now awake and fiddling with the present he had received from Gwen. In all honesty, Duncan didn't know what he was going to do with the camera. Sure, he could use it to take photos but of what? He was never really keen on photography.

As he was mindlessly playing with the camera, observing all the features, he heard some singing coming from the kitchen. It was Gwen. She decided to stay over the night.

So, as Duncan slowly walked over to the kitchen, still clutching onto the camera, he stepped in to see Gwen's hair in a little ponytail and wearing one of Duncan's favourite hoodie. She had her headphones on as she was singing and slightly dancing along as she prepared her breakfast. Duncan smiled with a heartfelt smile on his face as his eyes fell onto the camera he was still holding. Perfect timing.

CLICK!

The camera snapped as Gwen finally snapped her attention away from the food. Even one of her ear buds were off. "What was that for?" Gwen questioned, leaving the food to step closer to Duncan.

"Oh nothing. Just finally finding a better use for this camera." Duncan responded, showing Gwen the photo.

Gwen examined the candid photo of her before looking back at her boyfriend with a grin. "Huh, I guess you're better than I thought you would be." She claimed.
