Jū roku: Long Overdue
The Captain-Commander's rather violent today, wouldn't you say?
-Ukitake Jūshiro
Tears streamed down her face as she ran. The cold rain pelted against her exposed skin. She struggled to suck in air as she was crying too much, and she had been running for so long that she was completely exhausted. She just wanted to stop, she wanted to fall down on the floor and cry her eyes out. She couldn't, not yet. She had to get out of Soul Society first.
Sanae stopped to catch her breath for a moment. She hunched over onto her knees as her chest heaved in and out quickly. Rain continued to hit her skin, making her shiver. Or it could've been from the fear and shock that she was still experiencing. It wasn't everyday you wake up to find all your friends dead with your Zanpakuto sticking out of them.
Sanae whimpered, her eyes shutting for a moment as tears leaked out from underneath her eyelids. When she shut her eyes, all she could see was blood and bodies. She could see their faces, their terrified frozen expressions as they had perished. They had been sliced to pieces. It was a full-blown massacre. Sanae's heart gave a painful lurch as she gripped at her Shihakusho directly above her organ. A sob escaped her throat as she thought about what she had just woken up to again for the fiftieth time that night.
Her azure hair fell in front of her face, her eyes focused on the long tresses. Even in the moonlight, she could see that they were stained with blood. Most of her hair was clumping together as she used her hand and brushed it back behind her ears. Her fingers got caught in the knots, dirt and blood as she ripped them out and cried as she did so.
She needed to go. She needed help. What was she going to say to everyone? Her thoughts drifted to the two people who she knew would help her. Or rather, she hoped would help her. Sanae steeled herself, she had to be strong for a little while longer. With her heart pounding, her palms sweaty and tears falling from her eyes Sanae pushed off. Running towards the two people who could probably save her life.
X
She could sense them both together in the same room. That had been just her luck—the only luck of the night for her. She didn't even bother to knock as she threw open the doors to Division Eight's barracks office. The wooden doors bounced off the wall from the force of Sanae's push as Kyoraku and Ukitake whirled around from their seats near the crackling fireplace.
"Please!" Sanae cried out. Ukitake and Kyoraku tossed their cups to the side. Their eyes had gone wide at her appearance. "You have to help me!"
The two Captains hurried over to her, both staring down at her sopping and disheveled appearance. Outside, the rain and wind lashed against the windowpane, rattling the glass. Lightning flashed from outside and the thunder soon followed after.
"What happened?" Ukitake was the first to reach her as he held onto her arm. She was positively covered in blood from head to toe. She looked like someone out of a murder novel. "Why are you covered in blood? Are you hurt?"
"They're dead!" Sanae shrieked hysterically as her blue eyes bounced between the Captains. "They're all dead!
"Sanae, calm down." Kyoraku tried to soothe her. "Who's dead?"
"Everyone!" she screamed at him. Sanae pulled away from both Captains and held her head in her hands as she shook violently. "They're all dead—I need to go. I need to get out of here." She looked around the room in a panic. The shadows in the corners looked like they were creeping in towards her. She backed up, until her back hit the wall. Ukitake and Kyoraku both exchanged concerned looks but gave her space.
Sanae clamped her eyes shut, wrapped her arms around her stomach and slid down to the floor in a heap. Heavy sobs wracked her body as water and blood dripped off her skin and made a puddle underneath her. "Please help me." Sanae murmured. Her body continued to shake as she lifted her bloodied and tear stained face to her friends. "I don't know where else to go."
Ukitake took a step towards her; his hand outstretched like he wanted to comfort her but was unsure about how she would react to him. "Sanae-chan…"
"Once they find out." Sanae whimpered. She ran a hand through her hair and then gripped her skull tightly. "They're gonna kill me!" She exclaimed hysterically. "They're gonna think that I did it!" Sanae buried her face into her arms as she cried loudly.
Kyoraku was the one to approach her first. He strode over to her and knelt down to her level. His hand gripped her shoulder as Sanae flinched but raised her head to meet his stare.
"Tell us what happened." He demanded off her.
Sanae bit her bottom lip nervously. Her teary eyes blinked quickly as she wiped her nose on the back of her hand, smearing blood across her cheeks. "I don't know. I can't remember."
"Who is dead?" Kyoraku asked her. He felt Sanae's body begin to quiver once more. She looked like she was trying to find the words but was struggling. Eventually, she took a deep breath and spoke.
"My squad. They're gone…they're dead."
Kyoraku's eyes widened as he heard Ukitake gasp behind him. The white haired Captain finally approached and knelt down next to them both. Sanae needed their support right now.
"How?" Kyoraku pressed her.
Sanae sobbed and pulled at her hair once more. "I don't know! I woke up and they were all dead!" She looked completely torn as she rubbed at her face and leant her head against the wall behind her. "I got an order that a Hollow nest had popped up outside of Thirty-Fourth District. I went with twenty four Shinigami to deal with it…but when I got there with them…it just goes blank!"
Again, Ukitake and Kyoraku exchanged glances.
"When I woke up…they were dead, all of them. They were all sliced up—and I pulled my Zanpakuto out of Sakumo's body…"
"It could have just been the Hollows, maybe a Menos Grande had appeared and knocked you out?" Ukitake offered.
Sanae glared over at him. "What? Like I had just suddenly lost the ability to take out a Menos on my own? You're both thinking the same thing I am, I know it."
"No we're not—"
"I killed them." Sanae admitted. "I know I did. I just…don't know why."
"It's not possible." Ukitake stated. "You are not capable of doing this!"
Sanae turned her face away from them both. The tears returned as they streamed down her cheeks and dripped onto the floor by her feet. "I need to leave. Will you help me?" She asked them both, still refusing to meet their gazes.
"Leaving isn't going to help anything." Ukitake argued. "We'll figure this out. We'll be by your side, Sanae-chan."
Sanae met Ukitake's kind and supportive olive gaze. "Ukitake…we all know what's going to happen to me when they find out. And they're going to think I'm lying anyway when I say that I can't remember anything."
"We'll talk to Old man Yama!" Ukitake pleaded. "We'll keep you safe—"
"Ukitake."
It wasn't Sanae speaking, but Kyoraku. Both Sanae and Ukitake faced the kimono clad Captain. "Sanae-chan is right…they aren't going to see things from her side. They will look at the only evidence available."
"This is absurd!" Ukitake growled. "We can't just let Sanae-chan leave like this!"
"This is how she'll stay alive, Ukitake." Kyoraku replied calmly. Kyoraku stared his long time friend in the eye. "If she stays. She. Will. Die."
"I—I cannot accept this." Ukitake murmured. "There has to be another way."
"There isn't." Sanae whispered to him. Sanae could see the pain on the white haired mans face as he slowly came to realize that Sanae was serious about leaving. She had already made up her mind about it. Sanae frowned and glared at her blood soaked sandals. "I deserve whatever punishment they would give me but…" Sanae glanced up at them both. "But I don't wanna die!"
Ukitake shoved Kyoraku out of the way and enveloped Sanae in a bone-crushing hug. The blue haired girl blubbered as she held onto Ukitake's robe tightly and bawled her eyes out once more.
"Hurry!" Ukitake hissed at his two companions as they scampered through the rain in a desolate part of the Seireitei. Sanae and Kyoraku were only a few paces behind Ukitake as they turned a corner and came to a dead end, but it was exactly what they wanted. Sanae hadn't even had a chance to clean up, so she was still covered in dark red blood. The rain had begun to wash some of it off her skin, but her clothes were still stained with it.
"Kyoraku, quickly! They've already released the search parties."
"I know." The brown haired man replied. The two Captains approached the dead end wall and then faced one another.
"Sanae, create the barrier!" Ukitake ordered. Their plan was for Sanae to create a powerful barrier that would null the detection of Reiatsu from the inside. Once the barrier was complete, Kyoraku and Ukitake would create a Senkaimon for Sanae to travel through. This way, when the Shinigami detected Sanae's Kidō, they would assume that she was creating the Senkaimon herself. Thus, Kyoraku and Ukitake would remain undetected in her escape plan. Sanae clamped her hands together and shut her eyes in concentration.
"Mountain top jewels. Blue morning glories, flight of herons on dark sky. Take care, do not leap and crush these pearls of dewdrop. Bakudo #89: Hachigyō Sōgai!"
Appearing all around them was a golden barrier that encased the three of them inside. Sanae let her hands drop to her side as she shuddered from the power usage. She suddenly felt weak, and completely exhausted. She had already felt drained from whatever had happened previously, but she had just used a very high-powered Kidō spell. She was amazed she was still standing. Ukitake and Kyoraku performed the incantation together, and then the Senkaimon appeared before them. Bright white light lit up around them as the two Captains turned to the already exhausted Sanae who was barely able to stand on her own two feet.
"We can't use a Hell butterfly. So you'll be running through there in the dark." Ukitake told her as he reached out to stabilize her. Sanae nodded.
"I know. I'll be fine." Sanae looked between them both with sad eyes. "Thank you, both of you. I know that if they find out you helped me—"
"Don't worry about us, Sanae-chan." Kyoraku cut her off with a sincere smile. "You just stay alive, for us." Sanae's bottom lip quivered, she bit down on it to stop herself from crying once more. "Now quickly, they would've sensed it by now."
Sanae nodded in understanding. She gave Ukitake a quick hug and then moved over to Kyoraku. "Thank you. I'll miss you both so much."
"We'll see each other again, Sanae-chan." Kyoraku muttered as he leant his cheek against her hair. "This isn't goodbye."
Sanae gave him a weak smile as she pulled away. She gave Ukitake a long look; she noticed that the white haired Captain was now crying. It broke her heart to see him like that but she couldn't back out now. Sanae steeled herself and launched herself into the Senkaimon…
"Kyoraku, I'm telling you I saw her last night! It's her, she's back!" Ukitake exclaimed. The two friends were walking along Division Eights catwalks. Ukitake was yammering away at how Kyoraku had been right with the brown haired man listening with a cunning smile on his face. Yes, he also knew that Sanae was back. She was currently waiting in his office for him to bring the sickly Captain in and surprise him with her.
"What could she be back for?" Ukitake mused, a finger against his chin. "Do you think she knows about what happened? Has she found out who did it do you think?"
"I dunno, Ukitake." Kyoraku drawled with a roll of his eyes. They approached the doors as Kyoraku pulled them open and allowed Ukitake to head in first.
"Well, we need to find her—she's going to need our help…" Ukitake trailed off as his olive eyes settled on a lone figure standing in front of Kyoraku's desk. Her hands were clasped in front of her, her expression somber. Sanae shifted her weight on her feet as she and Ukitake continued to stare at each other.
It was a few more moments before Sanae spoke. "Ukitake…I'm sorry for stealing your Zanpakuto—I—"
She stopped suddenly. Ukitake had crossed the room in a second and pulled her into a hug. Sanae could feel his body shaking and soft sniffles coming from him as she wrapped her arms around his frail body and held onto him just as tightly.
"You think I care about that?" Ukitake whispered. "I'm just glad you're safe, Sanae-chan." He said joyfully. Sanae's mouth pulled up into a smile as tears began to leak from her eyes.
"…Thank you, Ukitake."
X
"So what do we know already?" Ukitake asked both Kyoraku and Sanae as they sat together in the Division eight office. Sanae leaned forwards with her elbows resting on her knees.
"It was definitely a set up. There was no official record of the order ever being given. There is someone out there who wanted me either dead or gone."
"It could more then likely be the same person who is influencing Kuchiki-san's execution." Kyoraku added.
Ukitake tapped his chin and lifted his eyes upwards as he thought deeply. "I did find it quite unusual that they decided to use the Sokyoku for just a simple seated officer, even if she is an adopted member of the Kuchiki family—it would only ever be used for higher levels like a Captain."
Sanae turned to glance over at Kyoraku. "You said that her execution has been pushed up twice already?"
The brown haired man nodded solemnly. "Mm."
"And the only one's who have the power to do that are the Central Forty-six. Again, which makes us think that this person is controlling them." Sanae concluded.
"No way!" Ukitake exclaimed. "There's no way that someone could infiltrate the higher ups like that!"
"It's the only explanation, Ukitake." Kyoraku retorted.
Ukitake frowned and looked between his two friends. They both had serious looks on their faces, they were very confident in what they thought. It was hard for Ukitake to believe them, he trusted in the Forty-Six—to hear that they might be manipulated was a shock to him.
"Then we should appeal to them." Ukitake stated. "If we explain to them what we know, and ask them to hold off on her execution for a little while longer we may be able to figure out who is behind this."
"And if they don't?" Sanae questioned.
"Then we'll know that they are being manipulated."
All of a sudden, Nanao came bursting through the office door in a hurry. "Kyoraku-taicho!" She exclaimed, out of breath. Her pale blue eyes hovered on Sanae for a few extra seconds. She was obviously surprised to see the Ryoka from before sitting calmly with two Captains. Nanao averted her gaze over to her Captain. "There's been another announcement—Kuchiki-san's execution has been moved to three days from now."
The three Shinigami's eyes widened simultaneously. They all shared looks of deep concern with one another. Kyoraku smiled over at his Lieutenant and tipped his straw hat towards her. "Thank you, Nanao-chan, that'll be all for now."
Nanao looked positively furious that she was being left out from whatever they were talking about, amplified by the fact that Sanae was sitting with them when she was indeed a Ryoka.
"But—Taicho!" Nanao exclaimed, her fingers tightening on her Kidō book. Nanao's eyes drifted and settled on Sanae once more. Sanae could see the restraint that the Lieutenant was enforcing on herself to not speak out of turn. She cared for her Captain, and was worried about him being in the same room as her. Sanae thought that she was going to fight it, but Nanao bowed respectfully and left the room, shutting the doors behind her.
"It's obvious now, isn't it?" Kyoraku said softly. Sanae dragged her eyes away from the closed doors and over to her friend. "That all of this is revolving around Kuchiki Rukia's death."
"They must be getting desperate." Ukitake stated. "They must really think that your Ryoka friend can save her."
"His name is Ichigo, and he can save her." Sanae said determinedly. Ukitake reeled back by he harshness of her tone. "If there's anyone that can do it, it's him. We'll need to give him as much time as we can."
Ukitake nodded in affirmation. "I'll send off the letter for the appeal."
"I'm going to destroy the Sokyoku." Kyoraku stated without hesitation. Sanae and Ukitake's jaws dropped simultaneously as they rounded on him.
"What?"
"Impossible! Even you aren't powerful enough to destroy something like that!" Ukitake exclaimed.
"Maybe not me, but I know that there's something that can." Kyoraku said with a wink directed at his two friends.
It took Ukitake a few moments to figure out what he was implying, and when he realized he gasped. "The Shihōin Shield? At least let the appeal try to stall the execution."
"Why in the hell do you have the Shihōin Shield in your possession?" Sanae asked, her eyebrows crinkling in confusion.
"It was entrusted to him when the last head of the Shihōin family disappeared." Sanae averted her gaze awkwardly. Kyoraku continued on with his explanation. "The Ukitake family specializes in seals and with no one around to use the shield they locked it away."
"I would be disobeying all the orders I had been given, Kyoraku!" Ukitake argued with a glare.
"Do you want to see your little subordinate dead?" Kyoraku said harshly. "Even if the execution gets postponed it will still happen, the only way to make sure that they don't get what they want is by destroying the Sokyoku."
"I agree with him." Sanae said, crossing her arms and hiking her chin up.
"Of course you do." Ukitake sighed in defeat. "When have you and Kyoraku never not agreed on something that will cause mass destruction and hysteria?" Kyoraku and Sanae shared a smile with one another. "Fine. I will unseal the Shihōin Shield, but I will also be sending off the appeal."
"Sounds good to me." Sanae grinned in satisfaction.
They had discussed their plan in further detail until Ukitake stated that he would return to his own barracks and request the appeal from there. If it didn't work, he would unseal the Shield and join Kyoraku at the Sokyoku hill at the execution time to stop them from killing Rukia.
Sanae had told Ukitake that she wanted to stay with him for the time being. "I can't exactly go with Kyoraku to the Sokyoku hill."
"Are you sure you even want to be apart of this? If Old man Yama see's that your back—"
"I'm not gonna be the only one on Yama's shit list after all this goes down." Sanae pointed out to Ukitake as they walked towards his barracks. "If you two manage to destroy the Sokyoku, I'll be a passing daydream to him."
"But still…" Ukitake said worriedly. "It's a big risk that you're taking."
Sanae glowered at the scene ahead of her. "If the person who is behind this also has a hand in what happened to me—then I want to have the first strike. There's no way in hell that I'm gonna miss this."
Ukitake gave her an uneasy look. It softened slowly as he watched her determined face. He couldn't fault her judgment. This was like the fight when he lost Kaien. Sanae was here to fight for her pride, but not only for herself, but for those that she lost too.
"I'm not running away this time." Sanae growled, her fists curling into balls at her side. "This time…this time there will be hell to pay."
The good thing about Ukitake knowing that she was back was that Sanae could indulge in a shower and get her clothes cleaned. He had sent his appeal off two days ago, and for those two days she had been hidden within his private quarters. Kyoraku had come by frequently, but Ukitake's Third Seats were no longer permitted into his room. None of them could risk Sanae being seen before it was time.
Sanae sat in the center of the room, her legs crossed and her eyes shut as she meditated for the first time in a long time. She was shifting through her memories, trying to find clues that could help her in trying to figure out who could be responsible for everything. She thought back on the days leading up, if anything was out of the ordinary—but nothing was. It frustrated her to no end. She just wanted to know the truth.
Sanae huffed in defeat and opened her eyes slowly. She ran a hand through her hair and heard the little jingle of the charms on her bracelet that Urahara had given her before she left. She fingered the charm on the bracelet, her brows knitting together.
"You're not in the Shihakusho?" Ukitake's voice came from behind as he entered the dimly lit room.
Sanae dropped her wrist to hang by her side as she shuffled around on her knees to face the white haired man. Sanae looked down at her attire, she had in fact discarded her black robe. She chose to remain in her washed out jeans and long sleeved black shirt that was tattered from her crash landing into the Seireitei.
"I didn't come back here as a Shinigami." Sanae clarified to her oldest friend. "I came back here to avenge my fallen comrades and save Rukia." She declared confidently.
Ukitake smiled down at her proudly, he took a seat next to her, groaning as he did so. "You've changed for the better, Sanae-chan." The girl in question snapped her head over to the tired Captain. "You used to whine about everything back then. Every little thing was a nuisance to you—you hated doing work and you would much rather sit back and let everyone else do everything for you. You remind me now of how you were back in the academy."
Sanae's mouth twitched at the corners. "It happened only recently. I was still like that. I had turned into a coward. I ran away when things got tough, when it never went my way. I was a spoiled little brat and had to always rely on those around me to keep my head up."
"How did you change?" Ukitake enquired. He peered down at her, noticing the gentle smile she had on her face.
"He yelled at me." Sanae chuckled. "He yelled at me because he didn't know who I was."
"The execution is tomorrow and we haven't heard a thing from the Forty-Six." Kyoraku informed Ukitake and Sanae later that night. "I think it's safe to assume that they have been compromised. We need to take matters into our own hands."
There was now no hesitation on Ukitake's face as he spoke with Kyoraku. "I understand. I'll head on over with Kiyone and Sentarō. It'll take me a little while to break the seal."
"I'll go with you, just incase someone tries to stop us." Sanae declared. Ukitake thanked her with a smile.
"I'll be waiting at the Sokyoku Hill with Nanao-chan. We'll be waiting for your flashy arrival."
"It'll be flashy alright." Sanae smirked. "I can't wait to see the old mans face when he sees me."
"He could kill you within a second, you do know that right?" Ukitake murmured to her under his breath.
Sanae pursed her lips in a pout. "Way to ruin the moment, Ukitake. I'm probably never going to get the chance to have the upper hand on Yamamoto in this regard."
"And you never will again." Kyoraku winked at her teasingly.
Sanae stuck her tongue out at him childishly as Ukitake sighed at their familiar antics. "Let's just try to all come out of this alive, shall we?"
"I will." Sanae puffed out her chest. "Can't say the same for Shunsui though. If he's slow enough, I might make sure he's in Old man Yama's line of fire and so he'll get killed and not me."
"Sanae-chan!" Kyoraku whined. Sanae narrowed her eyes at him.
"It's payback for all those times you pissed me off, you moron."
Ukitake sighed in defeat. It was exactly like old times with those two. In fact, it felt like Sanae had never left.
X
"Kiyone, Sentarō." Sanae called out to the two Third Seats running slightly behind her and Ukitake. Ukitake had the shield strapped to his back as he panted heavily from the running that they were doing. "I'm sorry, but you'll have to catch up to us." The Third Seats shared a look of confusion with one another as they watched as Sanae, the girl who Ukitake had introduced to them this morning, grab onto the sleeve of their Captain's haori and disappear before their eyes.
"That's some impressive Shunpō." Sentarō commented in awe. Kiyone hummed in agreement.
Sanae moved them as fast as she could in her Gigai body. She had sensed Ichigo arrive at the execution hill just in the nick of time. She knew that he would make it; he would never have let Rukia die.
Her and Ukitake were but mere flickers as she sped them across the roofs and walls of Seireitei. Her resolve and determination powered her on quickly as they reached the hill. Ukitake glanced down at his companion, silently wondering if she could handle the feat.
"It'll be a challenge…but I'm always up for a new one." She smirked confidently as they flicked away and appeared periodically up the giant cliff face. They arrived at the scene, a little ways back behind the captains. Sanae's eyes widened up at the released for of the Sokyoku. She had never seen it released before in her lifetime. It was severely impressive.
Her eyes landed on a figure hovering in front of the great flaming phoenix. It was Ichigo! He hadn't noticed her and Ukitake yet. She was floored by how much he had changed since the last time she had seen him. He was emanating raw power, but it was different this time. It was more honed, like he gone through devastatingly tough training.
Ichigo pulled back and prepared to charge at the Sokyoku. Sanae continued to stare in bewilderment. Was he going to attack the Sokyoku head on? He'd never win! The phoenix reared itself back as well, intent on destroying Ichigo and the stunned Rukia behind him.
"Sanae-chan!" Ukitake yelled. Sanae kicked into gear and Shunpō'd them into a position where the Shield would reach the Sokyoku. Once they were in range Ukitake threw the cord high into the air. It wrapped around the beak of the bird, stopping it in its tracks. At that exact moment, Kyoraku, who had been standing with the other captains, flashed over to them. He drew his Zanpakuto.
"Stop them!" A captain that Sanae didn't recognize bellowed. She was small, with short navy blue hair. She was standing right next Yamamoto as the old man turned his head to witness his two most prized Captains thrust their Zanpakuto into the shield and destroy the Sokyoku.
Sanae stood in front of the shield. Her gaze sought out Yamamoto as the old man's burgundy eyes settled on her. She saw recognition flicker in his eyes as she finally revealed her reiatsu after keeping it hidden for the entire time she had been in Soul Society. Save for the moment when she had flared it in the cannonball by mistake.
Yamamoto made a disgruntled sound in the back of his throat. "I can only assume that with you three standing together again, that you are in fact Igarashi Sanae." Sanae felt Ukitake and Kyoraku move to her sides. Yamamoto sighed in apprehension. "I had a feeling that you two helped her disappear from Soul Society." His glare was now directed at the two men who stood defiantly at her side.
Sanae ripped her gaze from Yamamoto and up towards where Ichigo was still hovering. Their eyes met, and for a brief moment, Ichigo was all that Sanae could focus on. A second passed, and everything else droned out as she witnessed the smirk appear on Ichigo's face. A sigh of relief escaped her lips. He wasn't mad at her for deserting him. She also saw something else in his expression; a knowing twinkle in his tawny gaze had Sanae's heart thumping loudly in her chest.
He was staring at her—like he knew something. Something about her.
A sharp tap of Yamamoto's cane had her head whipping back to the old man. Her connection with Ichigo was broken as she turned her attention to the Captain Commander.
"I expected this type of treachery from you, Igarashi. Considering what you did two-hundred years ago." Yamamoto growled. Sanae felt herself frown at his words. "But to drag these two Captain's into your betrayal as well…unacceptable!" he bellowed.
He released a flare of heavy reiatsu that caused the nearby Lieutenants to flinch slightly. Sanae remained upright. She held his furious glare. He hadn't exerted even half of his potential to them, yet Sanae knew that she would never win in a battle against the Commander.
Sanae took a step towards him. Ukitake and Kyoraku both shot out with their hands and latched onto her shoulders. "Don't, Sanae-chan." Ukitake warned her.
"You cannot fight him." Kyoraku added.
Sanae snorted. "I'm not entirely stupid." She rolled her eyes and shrugged off their strong hands. "I just want to talk with him." She could feel the hesitation from the two Captains behind her. She took another step, and thanked them both silently when they let her go. She felt completely exposed, as she stood halfway between her friends and Yamamoto. She remained calm and relaxed; she didn't want to give Yamamoto any inclination that she had any ill will for them.
"Yamamoto-sou-taicho." Sanae began. "I come before you, to prove my innocence—"
Sanae froze when the Commander suddenly disappeared from her sight. She gasped as she suddenly felt his reiatsu behind her. She turned her head, but wasn't able to put up any kind of defense as Yamamoto wielded his cane and smashed it into Sanae's back. The air was forced from her lungs as Sanae was flung away from him. Pain was erupting through her body as she was skimming along the ground. Rocks grated her skin and clothes as she approached the edge of the tall cliff. At the speed she was flying, there was no way to stop herself from plummeting off the cliff.
Her hand grazed the ground, but she couldn't hold onto anything as the edge appeared under her. She didn't have the energy to scream as her body dropped like a stone down, down below. As she was hurtling, she heard a collection of cries, calling out her name. One stuck out to her. She had heard Ichigo call out her name in a panic when she had blown herself away from them all in the cannonball. But this time, his voice was pure terror as he watched her body nosedive towards the ground.
Eep! Sanae just got punted into next week by yamamoto lol I'm actually almost in tears as I proof read this part. This scene has been in my head for YEARS and i mean years.
