Gohan felt a bit nervous about having dinner with the past version of his mom. Unlike with the others, he had actually seen his mom recently in his own timeline, where she was still very much alive. He was pretty certain there'd be a lot of awkwardness, especially with the strange feeling of being in the same timeline as his younger self. Having seen his younger self's history, he felt a mix of intimidation and curiosity—though he wasn't really sure what to expect. The whole situation was strange.
When they landed at his family home, he waited with Goku and the younger Gohan as Goku knocked on the door.
Chi-Chi opened the door and saw Goku, young Gohan, and a third person she didn't recognize. Her eyes narrowed as she studied the stranger—a young man who looked strikingly familiar, with the same dark eyes and hair as her son but older, more mature.
"Goku, Gohan… and…" she hesitated, glancing between them. "Who's this?"
Goku chuckled a little nervously, scratching the back of his head. "Uh, Chi-Chi, this is… well, it's Gohan too. He's just… from the future."
Chi-Chi's eyes widened as she looked at Future Gohan, taking in the resemblance and the seriousness in his face. "From the future?" she echoed, trying to process this revelation.
"Yes Mom," Future Gohan said softly. "I am from the future. I came back to try to help out everyone you see in the future. Everything kind of went bad. You're still alive there, but almost no no one else is," he explained as bounced on the balls of his feet nervously. "I came in a time machine made by Future Bulma or something she had put together before her own passing in the future."
Chi-Chi's eyes softened as she took in his words, but there was a sadness there, mixed with disbelief. She looked at Future Gohan with a hint of motherly concern. "So… things went that bad, huh?" she said, her voice softer now, trying to absorb everything he'd told her.
Future Gohan nodded, glancing down briefly. "Yeah, it was rough. The androids… they destroyed almost everything. I'm here to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Chi-Chi looked at him with renewed determination. "Well, if you're my son—future or not—then you're family. We'll make sure you get what you need to fix things," she said with a slight smile. Then, with her usual energy, she added, "And you'll need a good meal for that! Come on inside—both of you Gohans!"
Gohan would soon find himself on the couch with his younger self. "Well, um this is rather different, I didn't think about the possibility of meeting my yourself," Future Gohan admitted to his younger self.
Future Gohan sat on the couch beside his younger self, feeling a strange sense of nostalgia and nervousness. He rubbed the back of his neck, glancing over at Kid Gohan, who was eyeing him with a mixture of awe and curiosity.
"So… you're really me? From the future?" Kid Gohan asked, his voice filled with wonder but also a bit of hesitation.
Future Gohan chuckled, a little embarrassed. "Yeah, I guess I am." He glanced down at his hands, still feeling the lingering adrenaline from his recent battle. "It's... strange being here, seeing you—seeing me—like this."
Kid Gohan looked down, fidgeting. "You must be really strong. I mean… you beat Frieza and his dad like it was nothing."
Future Gohan smiled softly. "I've been through a lot since where you are now, but you're already strong, too. I had help getting to this point, just like you do."
Kid Gohan's eyes widened a little, as he clearly took that in, seeming a bit braver. "So… do I really become like you someday?"
"Better, actually," Future Gohan replied, his tone encouraging but serious. "It might be hard to believe now, but you've got potential that I didn't even see in myself at your age. You just have to keep training, learning from Dad, Piccolo… everyone."
Kid Gohan grinned, the excitement shining through. "I will. I won't let you—or me—down!"
Future Gohan smiled softly at his younger self. "I'm here to make sure you have time to grow with Dad and Mr. Piccolo, and to live the life I couldn't." He paused, the weight of his memories settling over him. "One of my biggest regrets is not getting the chance to study or explore anything beyond fighting. I had to focus on survival, and I missed out on learning—on becoming the person I wanted to be."
Kid Gohan's expression shifted, the gravity of his older self's words sinking in. "So… you think I can become a Super Saiyan like you and Dad someday?"
"Yeah, Future Gohan said as he nodded his head, "with work, I am sure you can do it. I am sure that Mr. Piccolo and Dad are going to want to train you and get you ready for this new threat. Listen to them and work hard. However, don't give up on your other dreams either. Gohan, you can be more than just a warrior. You can be a scholar too. Don't give up on those dreams of yours. I know that you can find balance in both roles. Someone I wish I had the chance to do.
Kid Gohan looked thoughtful, nodding slowly. "I'll do my best… I promise."
Future Gohan smiled, resting a reassuring hand on his younger self's shoulder. "That's all I could ever ask."
After a warm meal shared with the Son family—filled with laughter, curiosity, and Chichi's endless questions about the future—Future Gohan found himself feeling an unfamiliar but comforting peace. As evening fell, he made his way to Capsule Corp, where he hoped to find Bulma working on the time machine.
Arriving at the lab, he saw Bulma leaning over the machine, tools scattered around as she examined its parts with intense focus. She glanced up when he entered and gave him a smile. "Hey, Gohan! I've been poking around, and this thing is impressive. I can hardly believe I built it—well, the future me, that is."
Future Gohan nodded, walking over to her. "Yeah, Future Bulma managed to put it together under some pretty extreme circumstances. I know it's a lot to ask, but… if there's any way to replicate it, or make more fuel…"
Bulma gave a determined grin. "You leave that part to me. It'll take time, but I'm confident I can figure it out." She looked back at the time machine thoughtfully. "Your future sounds rough, Gohan, but if I can help even a little, we're going to make sure things don't turn out that way again."
"Thanks, Bulma," Future Gohan said, pausing as there was something he had to say, and he knew it wasn't easy to say. "Right before I came back, I fought and defeated the androids. However, right before that last battle both you and a child you will have in the future died. I wasn't able to protect either of you. I'm sorry."
Bulma froze, her usual confident smile fading as Future Gohan's words sank in. She placed her tools down and looked at him with a mixture of shock and empathy. "A… child?" she repeated softly, her eyes widening slightly. For a moment, she was speechless, absorbing the weight of what he had just shared.
Future Gohan nodded; his expression somber. "Yes. You… you meant a lot to me. You and your child were my family. Losing you both just before I could try to stop the androids…" His voice faltered, and he looked away, struggling to keep his emotions in check. "I came back hoping that maybe I could change things. Maybe I could make sure everyone has a chance to live the lives they deserve."
Bulma reached out, resting a hand on his shoulder. "Gohan, you did everything you could. And now… you're giving us a chance to change the future together. So don't carry that burden alone, alright?"
Future Gohan looked back at her, managing a small, grateful smile. "Thank you, Bulma. I won't." He took a deep breath, the sorrow in his eyes softening. "Let's make this future count."
"By the way, is Vegeta not staying here? Where is the arrogant prince?" Future Gohan asked curious about why Vegeta wasn't there.
Bulma sighed, her expression shifting as she glanced toward the window. "Yeah… he left after seeing you transform." She shook her head slightly. "The moment he saw another Super Saiyan, he took it as a challenge. Decided he needed to go train somewhere else, find a way to reach that power on his own. Typical Vegeta." A faint hint of disappointment lingered in her voice.
Future Gohan blinked, processing what she was saying. He wondered if he had messed things up in this timeline. "Um, well, I didn't mean for that to happen. I guess his pride couldn't take having both Goku and me become a Super Saiyan before he did. Sorry about that." Said as he couldn't just tell her that he was worried he messed up this timeline on his own already.
Bulma shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant, though a trace of worry showed in her eyes. "Hey, it's not your fault. Vegeta was always going to do things his way. Besides, maybe he'll come back someday… who knows?" She looked at Gohan with a reassuring smile. "In the meantime, we'll just keep working to get you back on your feet and figure out how to give everyone the best shot against those androids."
Thinking about the past, he for some reason thought about the spaceship his dad took to Namek. He remembered that his Dad had used a gravity room to get strong in the time from Earth to Namek. He had told Vegeta about it, if his memory served him right at some point. Then Vegeta used it while staying in Capsule Corps, before head
"Bulma, have you thought about building a gravity room like the one on my dad's ship?" Gohan asked. "Training under intense gravity could help me unlock that power I tapped into against the androids."
Bulma considered it, her eyes lighting up. "You know, I've thought about it since I helped set up the one on Goku's ship! I haven't built one here at Capsule Corp yet, but I have the blueprints. If you're willing to wait a bit, I can have it ready for you to use!"
She raised an eyebrow, impressed by Gohan's enthusiasm. "Well, you've got guts, I'll give you that! Building a gravity room is no small feat, but if you were able to figure out my time machine, then maybe you can handle it."
Reaching into a nearby drawer, she pulled out a tablet, bringing up the schematics. "Here's the blueprint. I'll set you up in an empty hangar out back where you can work. You're going to need some heavy-duty parts, so I'll have those sent over too."
Gohan nodded, a spark of determination in his eyes. "Thanks, Bulma. I might be from the future, but it's time I start preparing for it here, too."
Bulma chuckled. "Good luck! It shouldn't be too hard for you to put together. Standing under that gravity, though, is another story. But for someone as strong as you, I'm sure you'll manage!"
Gohan waved goodbye and took his leave. On his way to the hangar to set up the gravity training room, he unexpectedly ran into Yamcha.
"Hey, Yamcha! Mind helping me with this?" Gohan said, his excitement evident. "I'm putting together a gravity room for some training, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to have some extra hands-on deck."
Yamcha grinned, his eyes lighting up at the chance to help. ""Sure thing, Gohan! A gravity room sounds awesome! I am sure that it will help you train a lot and get even way stronger than you are right now. I don't mind helping at all. I don't have much else to do right now anyhow?"
The pair of them were soon working with the various heavy-duty machines. Gohan handled the electronics and machine itself while Yamcha worked on the room outside of the gravity machine. Handing the less technical elements, allowing Gohan to focus only on the mechanical elements of the machine.
"Yamcha, I am curious, as well you and the others died before fighting the androids, did King Kai never teach you the Kaio-Ken," Gohan asked looking over as he tied off some wires.
Yamcha scratched his head, a sheepish grin on his face. "Yeah, King Kai did teach me the Kaio-ken… but honestly, I only really used it once when I was dead. I was still getting the hang of it, and I didn't want to risk pushing my body too hard. I mean, it can be pretty intense, right? I wasn't sure if I could handle the strain, so I never really practiced it again."
He paused, glancing at Gohan with a hint of admiration. "But if you think it could help, maybe I should give it another shot. I don't want to be the weak link in the group when those androids show up. You think it's worth trying again?"
Gohan paused as he wanted to make his point clearer. "Well, I mean after you get some training in this room, that is, you can build up your strength and then try the Kaio-Ken when you feel sure that your body can handle it. They are going to need every bit of help they can get to survive and that might be a bit of help, but it might be a bit of help to make a difference."
Yamcha nodded, taking Gohan's words to heart. "Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I guess I need to focus on building my strength first before jumping into something like the Kaio-ken. If I can handle the gravity in this room and push my limits, maybe I'll finally feel confident enough to try it again."
He chuckled lightly, glancing at the gravity machine. "And with you around, I'll have some serious motivation. This future version of you is such a powerhouse, Gohan! If we train together, maybe I can keep up with you one day. Besides, I don't want to let Bulma down. She's counting on all of us."
Yamcha rolled up his sleeves, determination shining in his eyes. "Let's finish this room and get started then! I'm ready to push myself harder than ever."
"Sure, it feels kind of awkward training with my younger self and Dad, maybe you can contact Krillin or Tien and Chaotzu, I am sure this training would help them a lot and at least give you four a fighting chance. I am sure Vegeta will figure out how to be a super saiyan out there, he did in my time before he died against the Androids."
Yamcha raised an eyebrow, a mix of excitement and concern on his face. "Yeah, I get that. Training with your younger self and Goku must be pretty awkward. I mean it isn't like they are your exact family, but they are. It all sounds like a heck of a head trip! But you're right; having everyone on board could really make a difference. I'll definitely reach out to Krillin and Tien. They'll want to get in on this."
He paused, considering the implications. "If these androids are strong enough to defeat a Super Saiyan, then we have to be way stronger than ever."
Yamcha took a deep breath, determination settling in. "I'll send them a message after we finish this room. We'll get everyone together and start training like there's no tomorrow. This time, we're going to win!"
