Why did it have to be her? I thought as I tried to walk away and abort the mission. Her smug tone cut through the air.

"Well, well, look who it is- its the drop out."

Lacy said smugly,

"I didnt drop out-"

I said through gritted teeth, turning back around,

"Well I dont know what else to call it-"

She smirked, crossing her arms. Her curly brown hair tried back in a messy bun in a bandana. She fake pouted.

"Did the competition get to much for you...? Poor, poor, Kayden- always two steps behind me-"

"I am not always two steps behind you-"

I say as my voice raised slightly, she really knew how to get on my nerves.

She rolled her eyes, taping on a sign that said the same thing, 'Only humans beyond this point'

"Did you not see it or can you not read..?"

She said coldly looking at me with disgust, like she did when I answered a question quicker then her in class.

"Were not dogs we can read-"

I say my voice raising slightly.

She rolls her eyes.

"Whatever, better get out of here before my dad gets here he is not in a good mood today-"

I noticed the way she forced out the words "dad" like she was being stabbed when se said it. Just as she finished her sentence there was yell behind me, Speak of the literal devil, I only got to look behind me before having run, Mr. Monroe. I had been caught by him once, not a fun time, endedup with a black eye and a bruised rib. it had become a game for the kids to see how much they coul steal from him, strangley Lacy always saw it but never stopped it. Anyway running awa from him waslike playing a game of subwa surfers, jumping over crates and pushing through crowds. Getting a reply of "heys!"and "watch where youre going!" as I pushed by. Luckily I saw Haddy closing up her dads bakery, clpsing the slide metal window. When she saw and who was chasing me her smile faded ad se groaned in annoyace. Opening the door aa going into the bakery leaving the door wide eough for me too slip through.

"Thanks Had,"

"Youre gonna be the death of me-"

She groaned.

I smirked. Haddley had kind of short hair, tan-ish skin, things on her skin that looked like scales bit were really just from her mom Shay, who was a balmera. We had known eachother for all our lives, since my parents Keith and lance McClain were friends with Hunk Garret, her dad who were all in voltron. My parents had been missing for months know, they had filled police report, nothing showed up, so i started too look it into myself with Haddley and Melanie Holt, daughter of Matt holt, whos sister pidge holt was in voltron, im gonna say this in the nicest way possible that she didnt get her smarts from her, she was a more of a nature, hippee vibe. Anyway she didnt actually live here, she went to a boarding school for plants and and art and stuff bit her family lived in a small town outside of the city.

"Where Mel..?"

I said as I helped wipe down the counter.

"Some nature protest thing- she said she'd be back by dinner-"

"If we keep eating dinner here its gonna become a family dinner-"

"Were pretty much family anyway-"

I nod, wiping down the table.
