Chapter 3: Camping Trip from Hell
Summer break was finally here, the class was excited to go on vacation, but their teacher had other plans. "I know you're all excited about summer vacation, but you'll have to hold off on your plans because you ExWires will be going on a field mission at the academy's forest training grounds. Of course, I along with miss Kirigakure, and Mr. Ryūjin will be coming with you." Yukio said, Shura and Yosuke both gave a lazy wave to the class. "Stay sharp, this drill will determine weather or not you'll be able to go on missions." "Right!" the ExWires all said together.
(Time skip)
The ExWires and their teachers were walking through the forest, the ExWires weren't looking so good as they had to carry heavy backpacks the whole way up a steep hill.
"It's so hot." "My packs heavy." "My feet hurt." Were some of the complaints from the students. "Let's get a move on, we need to make camp before the sun goes down. At night the forest becomes a hotbed for lower-level demon activity, so let's pick up the pace." Yukio explained from the head of the group. "How is he not hot in that coat?" Bon thought aloud.
"You heard him, get moving." Shura said from the back of the group. Bon grew a tick mark on his forehead and started to grind his teeth together. "Ma'am, not to be rude but you're not even walking." Izumo said calling out the fact that Yosuke was giving Shura a piggyback ride.
"Wait, where are your packs?" Shima asked. "Over there." Yosuke said nodding ahead of them, they looked ahead and saw Rin playing with a little waterfall while carrying three packs with no effort. "Okumura's energy is supernatural." Shima said with a sweat drop.
After reaching the base camp the boys set up the camp while the girls drew a magic circle around the camp. Later as the boys were trying to get a fire going the girls were supposed to get dinner started, but it looked like they didn't know what they were doing.
"I got this." Rin and Yosuke said at the same time as they both grabbed a hold of one of the knives. Everyone was silent as the two stared at each other. Shura smirked and chuckled, Rin and Yosuke's eyes were shadowed and the others, minus Shura, had an uneasy feeling until the two did a tough guy handshake and nodded at eachother.
With masterful precision and blinding speed, the two had began cooking and when they were done the other's mouths watered just from the smell alone.
They made curry and it only took one bite for everyone's taste buds to explode.
"This is the best thing I've ever eaten!" Bon said with his mouth full and holding back tears of joy.
"If either of you ever wanted to switch teams, you'd make awesome wives." Shima said with a shocked look.
"You guys are really amazing cooks." Koneko said after swallowing his mouth full.
"So yummy, Rin." Shiemi said with her hand Infront of her mouth to be polite.
"Hehe, thanks guys." Rin said with an embarrassed blush and rubbed the back of his head. "Cooking is just about the only valuable skill my brother really has." Yukio said with a laugh. "Shut up you four eyed mole face." Rin grumbled. "Hope you brats enjoyed it because this is the last time I'm cooking for you, unless you manage to land a hit in me in class." Yosuke said with a smirk, the ExWires had determined looks on their faces, if delicious food like this will be there reward for fight their monster of a teacher then they'll do it, even if it cost them a few bones. They all mentally agreed to this, even Shiemi.
"Hope you're ready, because I'm gonna be the first to land a hit on you." Rin said standing up and puffing out his chest. "No way, I'm gonna be the first one to get a hit in." Bon challenged, the two glared at each other lightning shooting between their eyes. This turned into a small argument that end when Yosuke put another spoon full of curry in their mouths which made them instantly forget about their argument.
Later. "Alright, listen up, I'm going to explain the drill." Yukio said as everyone sat around the campfire. "It's a test of courage." "Don't get to scared out there okay." Shura and Yosuke said with pink cheeks, they were laughing while leaning on each other and holding beer cans.
"You two shouldn't be drinking on the job." Yukio scolded. "Hold on a sec, they said they were eighteen that makes them minors!" Bon said, pointing at the drunken pair angrily. "Wait, eighteen? Don't be ridiculous, This year they 'll both be twenty-" Yukio was cut off when Shura threw her empty can at his head. "Oops, my hand slipped." "Yuki, you know you should reveal someone's age without their permission. Bad brat." Yosuke scolded like you would to a dog.
Yukio grew a tick mark and adjusted his glasses. "Cut the crap and get back to work." He nearly growled out, But the two just laughed out loud.
"Look everybody we made him mad." Shura laughed. "Lets do it again." Yosuke said, dropping his empty can while he laughed. Yukio just cleared his throat and continued with his explanation.
Later, after warning Rin about using his flames, the ExWires ran into the woods. Two minutes after the students we're out of sight Yukio, Yosuke and Shura saw a bright blue light coming from the woods.
"Ha, not even ten minutes out and he's already started flaming up." Shura said, Yukio's eye was twitching. "Who cares, it's so dark out there that it probably blinded whoever saw it." Yosuke said then finished off his current can of beer and crushing it.
"At this point, it would be easier to just tell everyone else about his power." Yukio said with a groan and pinched the bridge of his nose. "You sound like an old man, and you're the supposed to be the younger one." Shura said, laughing with Yosuke.
"Alright spill it. Why are you two hanging around you here when you can just go tell the Vatican?" Yosuke took a sip from her beer before answering. "We put our report on hold, cause we decided to teach the brat how to use his sword."
Yukio gasped. "Wait, seriously?" "Yep, he even said that he was gonna become the Paladin." Shura laughed once more then the look on her face softened.
"Shiro was right when he said we'd like the kid. That's one thing he got right." "Yeah, but when Shiro asked us I was all like 'You're crazy, no way." "You mean dad…?" "Your dad was right to come to us about training Rin. As much as I'd hate to admit it." Yosuke said.
On top of a tree in the distance, Amaimon was watching the camp.
"Those two definitely know we're here, their such brats." "Amaimon, have you greeted the master of the forest yet?" Mephisto ask, hovering behind his brother thanks to his umbrella the had transformed into a bat. "Yes. Several of his brethren have been killed so he's very glad to help." "I'm going to stay and watch this time."
"That woman has hidden the Coma sword, I wonder if I can still make the boy snap." "I'm glad your motivated, but I hope you're planning on doing what I tell you this time." Amaimon just chewed on his fingernail and Mephisto scoffed. "You haven't heard a word I've said, have you."
A bottle rocket went off making Yosuke and Shura jolt up from their sleeping position. "Huh, what was that?" Yusuke asked confused and half awake. "I didn't think someone would give up this fast." Yukio said while looking at his watch.
"Yosuke, do you mind taking care of this one?" Before Yosuke could answer Shura wrapped her arms around him, holding him in place. "You handle it, I don't wanna lose my pillow." She said with an playful pout. Yukio groaned. "Alright fine, but don't fall asleep again. I mean it." He said as he went off to find whoever gave up. As soon as Yukio was gone the pair went back to cuddling.
(Time skip)
Rin's group finally made it back to the camp and saw they were the last ones. "Congratulations brats, you made it back." Yosuke said as they entered the camp's magic circle. "What the hell! How did you guys get back here on your own?!" Bon asked, shocked that Izumo and Takara Finished the mission first.
"Hold on, everyone's back? Then who let off that bottle rocket?" Shura asked. Suddenly, they all heard and exited shout as Amaimon landed outside of the magic circle along with a large, leashed, bright green goblin demon landed next to him.
Shura and Yosuke drew their swords. "Get Back!" Yosuke yelled to the kids. "Get them Behemoth!" Amaimon shouted as he took the lease off of the demon. Yosuke and Shura let out a whistle, the bonfire burst, a large gray wolf came out of the fire with a white snake wrapped around its neck like a scarf. The two familiars made the fire extent to the magic circle forming a beacon of flame that sent Amaimon and his pet flying.
"What was that?!" Bon asked. "It's an absolute barrier, everything inside the circle is safe while everything outside is repealed. You brats should be fine here for a while." Yosuke explained. "That's great, but what's the deal with that guy?!" Izumo asked. "Yeah, is he a part of our training?!" Koneko asked. "Isn't he a little tough for us?" Shima asked.
"Trainings over, we have to get ready for Amaimon's next attack." Shura said seriously while she tied her hair up. "Amaimon?!" The ExWires all shouted simultaneously in surprise. "You mean the King if Earth, one of the eight kings, that Amaimon?!" Izumo asked. "Yep, and you ExWires don't stand a chance against a big shot like him." Yosuke said.
Everyone gather around, we're gonna give you a dose of some good old holy water." Shura said. The two then splashed everyone with the holy water, when Shura was about to splash Rin Yosuke got in the way to make sure he didn't get hit. Shura then formed a cross and whispered a prayer.
"Alright, the damage shouldn't be to bad until the holy water dries." Shura said. "Wait what about Okumura? Aren't you gonna splash him?" Bon asked. "Yeah…" Shura said, dragging it out. "He's allergic to holy water." Yosuke said, wanting this conversation to be over. "What? I've never heard of that." "Wait, where's Yukio?" Rin asked. "He kept bothering us so I sent him away." Yosuke answered with a smirk.
"No matter who I try to contact the call won't go through." Izumo said, phone in hand. "Same here." Koneko said after he tried to call their other teachers.
"Why the hell is a big shot like Amaimon after us?" Bon asked. "How the heck should I know?" Yosuke said in a lazy tone.
"Hey. I don't know why, but I think he's here for me." Rin said to Shura who was sitting down. "Great job stating the obvious but you don't have to worry. Even someone like Amaimon is gonna have trouble getting past this barrier." "that sounds all well and good but I get the felling that he's planning something. Ay brat, if anything goes wrong you better take your sword and run like hell." Yosuke added in. "My sword?" Rin said, confused.
Shura did a chant while holding her hand above the tattoo on her stomach, it glowed purple faintly and Rin's sword emerged out of it. Yosuke grabbed it and held it Infront of Rin's face.
"Here, take it." Rin's only response was stuttering. "Oh come on, what's the matter, you were wining about it earlier so take it." Yosuke said while waving the sword at him. "Hey, you told me to not use my flames Infront of anyone." "Shut up, even after a warning you still sparked up not even ten minutes later, we could see it from here." Shura said, laughing.
"In all seriousness, how do you expect to beat let alone fight someone without your flames." Shura said, getting serious. "Well I-" "You've only gone up against small fry so far, but Amaimon's one of the eight kings. Stop overthinking it, take it." Yosuke said, looking Rin right in the eye.
"Moriyama?" Shima said drawing the others' attention to Shiemi who was walking out of the circle with a blank look on her face. "Somebody stop her!" Yosuke shouted as he, Shura, and Rin ran after her.
Amaimon jumped down from the trees and grabbed Shiemi. "SHIEMI!" Rin yelled about to run at Amaimon but Yosuke stopped him by stabbing his sword into the ground Infront of him.
"What did you do to that girl?!" Shura asked angrily. "Oh, nothing much, I just had a female Chuchi lay an egg in her. Now that it's nibbling on her nervous system I have full control of her, but it took way to long for it to hatch in my opinion." Amaimon's explanation made Rin grit his teeth.
Amaimon jumped off with Shiemi in his arms. "Get back here cone head!" Rin shouted as he ran out of the circle chasing after Amaimon. "Hey, take your own advice, brat!" Yosuke shoutef as he and Shura ran after him.
Rin's path was blocked by Amaimon's pet, Behemoth. The demon jumped at the student but was sent flying into a tree by Shura. "Get going, we're right behind you." She said then through him his sword. Rin nodded and continued on.
"Okumura!" Bon shouted. "No one leaves the circle no matter what, got it." Yosuke said to the rest of the students then ran out himself. "Not again." Bon muttered. Suddenly, the giant Chuchi that Rin's group faced during the test came out of the trees and attacked Yosuke.
Amaimon landed on a tree branch and Rin stopped just below him. "What are you gonna do with Shiemi?!" "Good question. Hmmm. Oh, I know, I'm going to make her my wife." "What?!" "So, will you marry me?" Shiemi wordlessly and mindlessly nodded her head. "good, now I guess I'll bit your lips off." Amaimon leaned in and was about to do just as he said, but Rin stopped him by swinging his sheathed sword at him.
Amaimon blocked the attack with his index finger and sent Rin flying back with a flick. From the camp, all they saw were several tree branches flying off of the trees and a large dust cloud formed with Rin's pain filled yell echoed out.
"Hey! That brat is my punching bag you jackass!" Yosuke yelled as cut of another one of the giant Chuchi's legs off.
"That son of a." Bon growled out as he began to stomp out of the circle disregarding the others protests until Shima grabbed his shoulder stopping him. "Bon, just try and calm down man." He said with his usual tone and smile, but Bon turned back to him with vain popping glare.
"Calm down my ass, right now I'm so pissed off at him I could freakin' explode." Bon then broke Shima's grip and continued stomping out of the circle and into the woods. Shima let out a wine as he reluctantly followed. After steeling his nerves, Koneko clinched his fists and followed his friends. Izumo continued shouting against this action as the trio disappeared into the forest.

Yukio had just gotten the parasite from Shiemi's neck when Yosuke and Shura ran up to the group.
"Hey, you guys okay?!" Shura yelled out. "Where were you two?!" Yukio shouted back at them. "Hey, I was fighting Amaimon's pet." "And I had to calm down this places guardian." The two answered right before an explosion of blue flames went off back where Rin was fighting.
"Damn you, Shiro. You wanted us to babysit this little monster?" Yosuke and Shura said mentally. "This is gonna be fun at least." Shura said with a smirk, getting a nod of agreement form Yosuke.
