"Anteros!" Will calls, and his younger brother stands up, untangling himself from Malcolm.
"He's joking, right? That can't be… Dad, right?" Anteros says as he follows Will to where the younger girl is struggling to hold up… their dad.
"He's not kidding." The young girl says, wincing. Will looks over at the campers, and Jake Mason stands up, murmuring to his siblings. He shoots Will a look, and nods. It's not that Will and Anteros can't get… Apollo… to the infirmary, but they have bigger things to focus on, and the Cabin Nine kids are just stronger.
"Great." Anteros mutters, and Will touches his shoulder.
"Tero, why don't you get on ahead and go get the private room ready? I think we can handle getting Apollo to the infirmary." He says gently, and Anteros nods, dusting his hands off on his pants.
"Can do. See ya in a bit." He jogs off, the setting sun lighting up his white blond hair like a halo.
Will watches him go for a second before he shakes his head to clear his thoughts. Focus, Will. He turns back and puts his hand on Apollo's arm, checking for what he can tell from his vitals. "Jake, can you 'n' Shane get him to the infirmary? I'll be right by y'all." Jake nods, motioning for Shane to help pick up the limp body of Apollo. "Let's go, we don' have time to lose."
It doesn't take long to get to the infirmary, closely followed by the young girl that had accompanied Apollo to camp. Will thinks her name is Meg, but he had been more concerned with… well, everything else going on.
"Thanks, y'all." He says as Shane and Jake put Apollo on the bed, the teen's head lolling to the side. Anteros appears by his side and holds out a cup of nectar. Will takes it with a grateful hum, and presses it to Apollo's lips, trying to get him to drink it.
"What the fuck?" Anteros says, and Will looks in horror as Apollo's lips start to smoke.
"Shit, shit, what the—" Will says, frantically taking the cup away.
"Oh… I forgot to mention that he said he's mortal." Meg drawls, leaning against the wall. Will whirls on her, blue eyes wide.
"You coulda mentioned that first!" He exclaims, running a hand through his messy curls. "I coulda killed him, giving him nectar like that!" He feels his breath start to quicken. What has he done? Is Apollo going to be okay? Calm down. You can do this.
"Sorry." Meg shrugs, her dark eyes watching Apollo from behind her glasses. Will pinches the bridge of his nose, breathing out deeply.
"Okay, I need you out of here so Tero and I can do our work. Why don't you go get settled in with the Hermes Cabin?" He says gently, and Anteros nods.
"Connor's right outside, he can take you over there." Anteros says, and Meg huffs, but nods, walking outside of the room to where her temporary head counselor is waiting. Anteros watches her for a minute, his eyebrows furrowed. "She's… interesting."
"Tero." Will says with a warning, and his brother shakes his head. "Why don't you take a lap? I know this is stressful for you, and I think I can handle it on my own. Go hang out with Mal or something, kay?" Anteros looks at him, his blue eyes worried.
"Will, it's not a big–"
"Tero. I got this. It's real fine." Will says, putting his hand on his brother's shoulder. They share a look for a second, and then Anteros deflates, nodding. Will turns back to Apollo as his brother leaves the infirmary.
He takes a deep breath, searching over his vitals again. How had he not noticed that Apollo was mortal? He can see it in his vitals, see the red blood dripping down his face instead of the golden ichor.
"Stupid, stupid." He mutters, low enough that even if Apollo was awake he wouldn't be able to hear. "You're such an idiot, it was right there in front of you. You could have killed him." He shakes his head, trying to clear his thoughts. Conceal, bury it down.
Sohee brings by a pot of Delos flowers a bit later, her brown eyes worried, her hands shaking. Will knows that none of them know the ramifications of this, so he keeps it simple for his sister, ushering her out of the room soon after to go study with Dylan and Sydney. He leans against the door frame, sighing, when he hears a sound.
"Hey, take it easy." He says, rushing over to Apollo's side, the teen starting to stir. "Don't try and sit up." Blue eyes that mirror Will's own crack open, and Will blinks in surprise. Of course, they're the same, you idiot, he thinks. This is your DAD.
"Those flowers…" Apollo says, his voice hoarse, and Will turns his head slightly to see the pot that Sohee had brought over earlier in his line of sight. "Those are from Delos, my sacred island."
"Sure are." Will says, a slight laugh in his voice. "Only grow in and around Seven. Your cabin. Do you know who I am?" He asks, trying to tamper the sound of hope in his voice. Of course he wouldn't—
"You're Will Solace." Apollo says, and Will startles slightly. He… knows? "My–Er—Um…"
"Yeah, it's a bit awkward." Will admits, seeing the teen in front of him flounder over the word son. "Don't worry about it." Apollo tries to sit up again, and he lists to the side. "Woah, hold on there. I tried ta heal you up but.. I honestly don't know what's wrong. You've got blood, not ichor. You're recoverin' quickly, but everything, all your vitals and such, all human." Will frowns. How could this have happened?
"Don't remind me." Apollo groans, and Will can't help but stifle a smile. He should feel bad, he knows, but a bit of him gets some satisfaction out of it. It's wrong, of course. But still.
"Yeah well…" Will puts his hand on Apollo's forehead, breathing out, a frown taking over his lips again. Stop shaking. He wills his hands to stop trembling. "I wish I had known that before I tried to give you some nectar. Your lips started steaming… I thought I killed you."
"Ah…" Apollo licks his bottom lip, a frown line forming between his brows. "I guess Meg forgot to inform you of my condition."
"She sure did." Will takes Apollo's wrist in his hand, checking the steady feeling of his pulse. It's strong, but human. "I think you're 'bout my age, fifteen or so. Your heart is beatin' like normal again. Your ribs are mendin' and your nose is swollen, but it ain't broken."
"And I have acne… and FLAB." Apollo says, and Will blinks in confusion, tilting his head to the side.
"You're mortal and that's what you're worried about? Acne?" He says incredulously, and Apollo sighs.
"You're right. I'm powerless. Weaker than even you demigods!"
"Gee thanks…" Will has to bite his tongue to stop from calling him something he shouldn't. He can't even bring himself to call Apollo Dad in this state. Much less something meaner. The familiar darkness that curls around his stomach hums in excitement at him wanting to say something not so nice. Cut that out, he says inwardly. He's hurting, this is not the time.
"Are… are you amused?" Apollo asks, and Will can't help but let the smile break out a bit.
"It's either find it funny or run screaming into the woods in full freak out mode. My dad, the god Apollo, is a fifteen year old–"
"Sixteen." Apollo interrupts, frowning. "Let's go with sixteen." Will resists the urge to roll his eyes.
"A sixteen year old mortal, layin' in a bed in my infirmary, and with all my healing powers–which you GAVE me– I still can't figure out how to fix you."
"There's no fixing this." Apollo says dramatically, and Will blinks at him. What? "I am cast out of Olympus. My fate is tied to a child named Meg! This is the worst possible scenario!"
Will snickers, shaking his head. "Meg is real cool. Tero told me she poked Connor Stoll in the eyes, and kicked the hell out of Sherman Yang's crotch."
"She did what?" Apollo asks, his eyes wide. Will just shrugs. Tero had just popped in a while ago to let him know, a grin on his face, before tearing back out of the infirmary. Will gets it. He forgave Apollo a while ago for all of the absenteeism, but Anteros had much more to deal with. He wouldn't want to be around him either, if he had gone through all that Anteros had.
"She'll get on just fine here." Will says, picking at a loose thread on his scrubs before picking up the clipboard by the bedside, writing some things down for later. "She's waitin' for you outside, same as half the camp." Will sighs, looking at Apollo. "Just so you're ready and such, they're askin' a barrel load of questions. Everyone is wonderin' if your situation, your mortalness as it were, has anything to do with what's been goin' on here."
"What's been going on here?" Apollo says, but before Will can answer, the door opens, and he looks over at the entrance. Kayla pokes her head around the frame, and he ushers her in. Austin follows close behind, and Apollo blinks in surprise, but a smile takes over his face.
"You must be Austin, and Kayla." He says, and they share a look. Will knows that look. They're terrified. He feels it too.
"It really is you, then." Kayla says, crossing her arms over her chest.
Austin frowns, adjusting the lapels of his coat. He gives Will a nervous look, and Will nods. "Meg told Tero that you got beat up by a couple of thugs, and that you don't have any powers and you ran screaming through the woods." Apollo looks huffy.
"Meg talks too much. And who is this Tero you keep speaking of?" He says exasperatedly. Will sighs.
"Anteros. One of our siblings. It's us three, Anteros and Sohee, at least for the summer." Will says, and Apollo looks deep in thought.
"Anteros… Morgan. Would be Heather Morgan then. And Sohee.. Kim. Minhee Kim." Will shares a look with his siblings, shaking his head.
"Anyway, you're mortal. Like hundred percent?" Kayla asks, her eyes wide. "Am I gonna lose my archery skills? I can't even qualify for the Olympics until I'm 16!"
"If I lose my music skills…" Austin clutches at his camp necklace. "No, man, that's just wrong! My last video got like five hundred thousand views in a week!" Will shoots him a look. He'd forgotten about Austin's Youtube channel. That would be a discussion for much later. Austin just gives him a brilliant smile, and Will rolls his eyes. Right.
"These problems, they will not affect you." Apollo says, nodding like he's giving sage advice. "If Zeus went around yanking away my divine powers retroactively, half the medical schools would disappear! Imagine the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Deserted! Tarot card reading would collapse overnight!" Will stares blankly at the teen in front of him. Just how many half siblings does he have…? He shakes his head. He does NOT want to think about that at the moment.
"Gods, that's a relief." Austin says, and Kayla nods emphatically.
"So if you die when you're mortal, nothing will happen to us?" Kayla asks, and Will puts his hands on his hips. Okay, that's enough.
"Sunbabies." He says, and they both turn to face him, eyes wide. "Why don't you run on up to the Big House and tell Chiron that our…" He stops for a second, eyes sliding to Apollo. "That our patient is awake. I'll bring him 'round there in a jiffy. Also… try 'n' get everyone away from the outside of the infirmary. It'll be real overwhelming and that's the last thing I want right now." They both nod, and Will pats Austin on the shoulder before the two of them make their way outside.
He turns back to Apollo, sizing him up. This is so weird. Apollo looks back at him, blue eyes wide. "Where are these other two children of mine that you mentioned? I would have imagined they would jump at the chance to see me." Will chews on the inside of his lip, tempering his emotions.
"Sohee is with her friends in the Hebe cabin, studying. Anteros is…" He hesitates, and he sees a question forming on Apollo's lips. "I told him to occupy himself elsewhere. It was for the best. Sorry about the other kids, by the way. We are all in a lil' bit of shock at the moment. It'll take some time to get used to well… alla this."
"You don't seem shocked at all." Apollo says, eyeing him. Will breaks into a nervous smile, forcing his emotions down. Would Nico be in his cabin once he dropped Apollo off at the Big House? He sure hopes so. He needs a good freakout at the moment.
"I'm scared shitless. But the one thing I learned from my big brothers before they…" He frowns, shaking his head. "I have to hold it together as head counselor, or it'll become one real big mess, and that would be bad. Now, let's get you up and at 'em."
It takes two tries for Apollo to fully stand, and that's even with Will's help. As they make their way out of the infirmary, Meg is waiting for them, looking extremely bored with it all.
"You look yuck." She says simply, sticking out her tongue. Will looks her over. Anteros must have patched her up, by the look of her.
"You are as charming as ever, Meg." Apollo deadpans, and Will can't help but let a smile break out across his lips. Ah, he might just like Meg more. Anteros definitely will.
Meg adjusts her glasses, peering at Apollo. "Thought you were going to die." Apollo scoffs.
"Glad to disappoint you." He says with a bit of a sniff. Meg laughs, shaking her head.
"Nah, you still owe me a year of service. We're bound, no matter if you like it or not." She chirps, and Will furrows his brow. Whatever THAT means.
"I suppose I should thank you." Apollo says with a sigh, shaking his head. "How DID you get us out of the woods, anyway?"
Will doesn't like the look on her face. He's not even sure how she did it, and from the way she's looking, he doesn't want to ask. Meg taps her foot. "Dunno. Luck. From what his brother's been telling me–" She points to Will and he blinks in surprise. Ah. Anteros. "-it's a good thing we got out before nightfall."
Apollo eyes Will, blue eyes curious. "Why is that?"
Will goes to answer, but he stops, chewing on the inside of his lip. Maybe it's best to have that conversation with Chiron. "I should let Chiron explain. Let's get on going inside."
Will leads the pair of them the short walk from the Infirmary to the Big House, ignoring all of the campers gathered in small packs to gawk and giggle over Apollo. He really doesn't have time for this, and he wants to get this over with before he starts shaking and glowing again. Not the time nor the place.
Will brightens up when they make it to the porch, a familiar figure waiting for them. Nico leans against one of the posts, dark eyes watching them carefully, his sword at his side, his new bomber jacket over his shoulders.
"I remember you." Apollo says, squinting. "It is.. Nicholas. Son of Hades?" Will gives Nico a questioning look, and the younger boy just shakes his head, shooting him a look that says later. Will nods.
"Nico di Angelo." Nico says cooly, looking over Apollo with stern eyes. "So it is true. You're a hundred percent mortal. You've got a thick death aura hanging around you like a cloud. High possibility of death."
Meg snorts, pushing her glasses up her nose. "Sounds like a weather forecast." Nico's gaze moves to her, and he frowns slightly.
Will shakes his head, stepping up to put his hand on Nico's shoulder. "Neeks, we needa work on your people skills, it seems." Nico rolls his eyes in the most dramatic way, shaking his dark hair out.
"I'm saying the obvious, Solace. If this IS Apollo, and he dies, we're in deep shit." Nico says simply, and Will sighs, turning to face Apollo again.
"I apologize for my boyfriend. He's a catastrophizer sometimes." Nico scrunches his nose.
"Can you not in front–"
"Would you prefer me call you special guy? Better half? Significant other?" Will offers with a laugh, knowing that's not what Nico was getting after.
"More like significant annoyance in your case." Nico mutters. Will laughs, and he sees the corner of Nico's lips quirk up.
"I'll get you for that one, sunshine." He teases. Meg wipes her nose, squinting at them.
"You fight a lot." She says. "I thought that we were going to see a centaur."
"And here I am." Chiron says, trotting through the doorway. "Apollo, it is good that you are here. It's time to talk about the disappearances. William, Nico, if you will."
Will smiles, motioning for Apollo and Meg to follow Chiron into the Big House, and he watches their backs go through the door. After it closes behind them, he breathes out, his shoulders dropping. Nico looks at him for a second before grabbing his arm.
"Hey, come on. Let's go to my cabin." He says, and Will nods. He lets Nico half drag him toward his cabin, still in a daze.
