R.I.P. Ianto Jones Chapter 8

Jack turned to face Andy. "I'm glad it's you," said Jack. He clearer his throat. "We couldn't get his seat belt open." A rye smile, remembering. "That's never happened before." He shrugged. "Weevil hunting." He cocked his head to one side. "Well, that's what we called it."

Andy knew what he meant. He knew Jack and Ianto were more than just friends. "I'm...really sorry, Jack."

"Thanks." He looked from the crane to the water. "I just want him out of there!"

"You understand," said Andy. "you won't be allowed near the car once we retrieve it."

Jack nodded.

"Ianto will be taken out of the car, then straight to Heath Hospital. The Ambulance is on its way."

Another nod.

Andy shook his head, looked at the crane driver, then back at Jack. "I have to go now."

"Yeah."

Gwen and Rhys stood back, looking further down the river. A Police launch drew closer.

"Divers." Rhys told Gwen.

The driver of the flat bed truck, got out and moved towards the controls for the crane. He moved the crane arm around so it was just over the edge of the broken bridge section.

The Police launch stopped, and two divers, already in scuber gear, entered the cold water. They waited for the line and hook to be lowered from the crane and dove with it under the water.

A siran wailed in the distance. Jack watched, as it came down Corporation Road. His heart hurt.

Gwen leaned against Rhys, tears flowing freely. "What is Jack going to do without Ianto?"
