"Even in death, you can't stop meddling, can you?"
Despite the words, Firestar knew there was no ire in them. He shot Cinderpelt a smug grin.
The cheeky molly actually grinned back from where she fluttered. "I suppose it is our solemn duty as Starclan to meddle every now and then with the living."
Firestar's grin faltered, remembering exactly how Starclan's meddling had affected his daughters' lives. "At least this will help."
He hoped. He desperately hoped.
Shaking his pelt as if to rid himself of his darker musings, he stood from the pool where the pair had been observing the living. He spread his wings, eager to fly again.
"We should join the others- Halloween won't last forever, you know." Cinderpelt, though tiny now, gave a clearly melancholy look towards the pool which showed a familiar tabby queen fluttering from blossom to blossom. Wrenching herself from the sight, she flitted up and promptly perched herself on Firestar's head under his halo.
"True- but I need a lift!"
Back in the world of the living, Umbra gave a pleased smirk. She had heard of Firestar's death through rumors spread by other loners who were familiar with the clans. There was no way she would ever forget that fiery young tom- or the charm she had given him all those moons ago.
Fearing the halo would be lost forever to an early grave, she had hurried back to clan territory to reclaim it, but now, hidden amongst the leaves, she watched a russet-furred youngster cavorting ever so beautifully above the treetops. Umbra immediately saw the resemblance- most likely a grandson, if she had to guess.
She sighed happily, content that her magic was providing something nice in a world that was so uncertain and always changing.
After watching the motley collection of angels, demons, fae and great cats for a while, she stood and stretched. Then, with a swish of her tail, was gone.
But not forever. She needed to keep an eye on her charms, after all. And maybe, just maybe, someday she would find an apprentice of her own amongst the cats of Thunderclan.
