Hi Everyone, ever since the Fallout series was released on Prime, I had been playing lots of Fallout 4 and New Vegas. Eventually some ideas began springing up and soon this fic came to mind.
Though first I would like to give a couple of warnings. My knowledge on Fallout lore is a bit outdated since my main source is from the Storyteller Series by Shoddycast (which hasn't been updated since 2016) as well as the games and the tv show itself. Though in terms of actual lore relavent to this fic, its going to be somewhat loose.
It is fanfiction after all.
Finally I want say that this fic was inspired by another I had read a long time ago. It wasn't been updated in years and I have long since forgotten its name. If I can find It I will give it credits.
Anyway, lets get on to the fic.
Nate sighed as he fiddled with the cigarette between his fingers. Within his office in the Castle, he sat in front of a desk covered in numerous files and documents. The culmination of almost three years of hard work, turning the scattered shacks and odd farms into a robust and well defended colletions of towns and villages.
Trade Routes and Supply orders.
Men and Women who once served under other flags now working to strengthen and improve the Minutemen.
Garages and old factories running once again, all sorts of materials and equipment shipped from settlement to settlement with their aid.
The whole of Massachusetts and its surrounding states now under his leadership. The slow bricklaying that sets the foundation for a proper nation.
All were vital for this day, just as they had been the year prior.
Nate was pulled from his musings as Preston Garvey stepped into the office. "General, word just came in, The Jefferson and Polk are approaching from the south." Preston reported.
Nate calmly stood up, taking a moment to put his cigarette out in the nearby ashtray. "Standard protocol, lets get the welcome mat rolled out." Nate claimed as he approached the door. Preston standing to the side as he walked out. All around him, Minutemen wandered the Castle grounds. Some hauling supplies, others information.
Reaching the courtyard Nate could see the large tower that now dominated the centre of the Castle, responsible for the majority of communication from command everywhere they had reach.
He only gave it a momentary glance before he strode for the main gate of the Castle. Another part of his projects had been the proper rebuilding of the Castle, and they had succeeded beautifully.
Just outside the walls Nate watched the shore as two large dirigibles flewover the boston sea. Eventually stopping in the area between The Castle and Spectacle Island. A pair of Vertibirds, ones far different than those the Brotherhood of Steel utilizes, flew overhead and landed near the Castle entrance.
Nate approached, well aware that a few of his followers were now behind him. Dogmeat stuck past his legs and watched the two Vertidbirds land grew still.
Two groups approached him.
One was led by two individuals in power armor, custom models that fused elements of the T-45, T-51, and the Hellfire armor. Behind them strode a women in her late twenties, hair matted and bags evident under her eyes. At her side was an old dog, still walking with pride despite its age. He could make out two individuals in lab coats and a large Super Mutant walking just behind the women.
The other group was far more unique. Headed by a man dressed in Desert Ranger gear with a stetson on his head and aviators covering his eyes. At his side was a pair of Cyberdogs, with an Eye Bot floating not far behind him. A Ghoul dressed in an armored mechanic jumpsuit joined by a rustic man in a combat berret and a woman with a straw hat and a shotgun strapped to her back strode along his left. Two women, one in power armor the other in recon armor, alongside a man in a labcoat strode to the Man's right.
Before Nate stood Mary, The Lone Wanderer, and her group of Loyalists. Just behind them stood the man simply known as Courier Six, and his group of trusted confidants.
He, The General of the Minutemen and "President" of the Commonwealth, stood face to face with the current President of The Capital Wasteland and The Sovereign of New Vegas.
Mary broke the stiffness as Dogmeat rushed to greet the old dog at her side. "Nate, its nice to see you again, How's Shaun doing?" She asked. Nate took a glance down, simply watching the two dogs let out playful barks before he looked back at her.
"He's doing fine, been taking lessons at Vault 81, even made a few friends." Nate replied. The almost tense air around the three groups disappeared as Mary smiled. She approached with her hand held out. Nate took it, letting her embrace him in a brief hug.
"Glad too hear it, now lets get onto business." She spoke politely. Nate just nooded as the two separated.
"I've had the room prepared, shall we." Nate offered as Mary nodded. His eyes glanced to Six, watching as the man just smirk and stepped forward.
It was going to be a long day.
The scent of smoke lingered in the air of the meeting room as Nate eyed the current map if the world.
Things had changed, a lot.
Arthur Maxon has based himself in the ruins of Chicago, with every member of the Brotherhood loyal to him following suit.
Shady Sands blew up while Kimball was visiting, now the NCR is stunted by loss of leadership while trying to maintain order in southern California.
Remnants of the Lanius' Legion were waring with other Legion Remnants.
There was good news.
Mary now had control of every state around D.C and a fully restored Pittsburg.
The Capital Wasteland now had a small fleet of airships to hasten trade across the Wasteland.
The Courier's Big MT had been making medical break throughs with the hard work of the Followers of the Apocalypse.
Even some of the Former Legion were reforming into an actual nation with Pheonix as their capital. Talks of trade and actual governance being headed by a man known as Populi Regis.
The last one was rather strange, considering many of the tales he had heard of the Legion.
Suddenly the Courier stood up, craning his neck before looking over at the new map of North America. "How about a recess, anyone else for a break from all this?" he asked around the room.
Nate took a second glance around, seeing many of the others in the room agreeing.
Six seemed to chuckle before he stepped out of the room. Mary gave Nate a quick glance and made a small gesture too the side door. Nate returned the gesture and stood up after her.
Mary led him too a secludated hallway and stood straight, their dogs acting as lookout. "Nate, I found something in West Virginia. Something that would heavily interest you." Mary explained.
"How-so, is it Alien, Pre-War, Enclave?" Nate inquired.
"Latter two, old Bunker. Has something that needs someone with Pre-War identification. No one was alive when we opened the door." Mary explained. Nate raised his brow before Mary pulled out a small electronic device. "The base even had an A.I. built in, a bit damaged but still functional." Mary said as she handed him the device.
Nate looked it over, it fit in the palm of his hand and was lined with small vaccuum tubes. A four digit lock combination took up one side of it. "You want me to open this, now?" Nate inquired.
"Not now, I want to bring you to the bunker, you can bring whoever you trust, but this will be our project." Mary offered.
"Just us?" Nate inquired.
"We both know Six has more than just those Securitrons and Robo Scorpions. Part of his territory is located over old Pre-War missile silos and there's a high chance the NCR will slowly go under his control." Mary argued.
"You think Six will try to fight us?" Nate asked with a raised brow.
"Not Six himself, but others in his territory. All it could take is some zealous Brotherhood Member or vengeful NCR ranger stumbling across his hidden weapons and deciding to take justice into their own hands." Mary explained. Nate imagined the scenario, knowing some of the extremes that vengeful people will go.
"Fine, just give me time to prepare. I can't just leave the Commonwealth on a whim." Nate said.
"I understand, just send me a message when you're ready." Mary said.
They heard their dogs barking at someone, prompting both too look out. Only to find Strong being hastled by the two dogs. "Strong, what are you doing here?" Nate asked.
"Human, Mailman's floating ball can recite Macbeth, why you not tell me." Strong asked.
Nate just looked the Super Mutant in the eye and resisted the urge to sigh. "You never asked Strong." Nate replied with a tired tone.
Strong growled in protest only to walked away, Muttering about "Stupid Humies" as he walked away.
Nate turned to Mary, only receiveing a shrug in response. "Anyway, just message me when you're ready." Mary said as Nate nodded. The two left the corridor, heading back for the meeting room.
The two could hear more sounds from the courtyard as they wandered about the Castle.
Then a shot rang out.
Both of them paused, looking too one another.
Then another.
Both of them rushed to the courtyard, Nate drawing his customized 10mm Pistol while Mary readied her Alien Blaster Pistol.
Both stopped as they reached the courtyard and looked around. Many of the on duty Minutemen were staring out at the South West wall, many of the visitors staring out as well. Nate took point, walking up the stairs with Mary behind him.
Reaching the top Nate caught sight of just what had transfixed the crowds view.
In a line was one of Mary's bodyguards, both of the Courier's snipers, Six himself, and a few Minutemen. All had their sights set on a strange beast just south of the Vertibirds.
It was a wolf of some kind.
Its fur was pitch black in color. It stook on all fours yet its body structure suggested that it could stand on its back legs if need be. On its face was its skull, or some sort of bone like plating that provided some protection. Its eyes seemed to glow an ominous red as it paced around the water logged area just south west of the castle.
It seemed confused, wandering back and forth with no real pattern or reason.
"Think its some kind of Mutant?" one of the Minutemen inquired.
"Hell if I know, but it did shrugged off a .32 round like it was nothing." Mary's guard replied.
The Courier stepped forward, his prized rifle Medicine Stick in hand. "Old Beowolf just wandered out of the city ruins." He said.
"You already giving it a name?" Mary inquired.
"Yes... I think." Six said before running a hand along his forehead.
"Another ache Six?" Mary asked as Boone fired a .308 at the large "Beowolf" outside the Castle.
Nate almost sighed, he was familiar with this little quirk of Six's. Random bits of memory loss and subsequent headaches, all because of a 9mm bullet still lodged in his skull and whatever else he had done to himself.
"Yeah, I think I've seen these things before, maybe." Six said before taking off his aviators and rubbing his eyes. The sounds of shock and wonder drew their attention away as Boone turned to the group.
"Holy shit its melting!"
"Its Evaportating!"
"What kind of dog does that?"
Many more shouts joined them as Nate glanced out at the corpse of the Beowolf. The beast was clearly dead, a massive hole where one of its eyes had once been. Yet it appeared to be evaporating, almost turning to dust if he was being honest. The remains of its body turning to ash and flowing with a non-existent wind.
"How the fuck." Nate whispered before something happened.
A strange light seemed to eminate from the dissolving corpse. Streaking from the ground and dashing into the sky. Nate could hear the sounds of shock and panic as the light spread across the sky, practically blinding him despite the arm he had raised in preparation.
Taking a moment to adjust Nate lowered his arm, taking a moment to look around him.
The landscape was fine, the people all around him were fine. Both dirigibles were still in the sky too the East, both Vertibirds still rested just West of the Castle.
"Nate." he heard Mary whisper as she pointed into the sky. Nate followed her finger, taking a moment as his eyes widened in shock.
The Moon was shattered.
He could see it in the sky and it was broken.
"Did that dog?"
"What the fuck!"
"Holy Shit!"
He could hear all this and more as he wordlessly starred at the shattered moon that dominated the sky above.
A heavy slam was heard as Nate turned to see the Courier on his knee, staring up at the sky. Tears ran down his face as his blue eyes took in the broken moon.
"General! General!" he could shouting behind him. Preston had run up the stairs and grabbed him by the shoulder. "Satelite readings are going crazy General. You guys need to see this!" He shouted with urgency. Nate looked to Mary and the Two nodded as Boone helped Six to his feet.
Nate and Mary followed Preston as Six jogged behind them. Stepping into the Massive tower at the centre of the Courtyard. Nate could see Tinker Tom (dressed in proper Minutemen attire) freaking out at the readings across his screen. "General, are you seeing this?" Tom asked as Nate stepped forward.
Across the mapped out screens was the whole of North America, now cut off from the rest of Earth, right next to four new continents that eyed her east and west shores respectively.
Nate could only narrow his eyes at the screen, knowing far more drastic changes was the only possible outcome from this.
Yet one question dragged itself into prominence.
"Where the hell were they?"
