" Aunt Jenna, are you home?" Elena asked as she walked into her aunt and Uncle's house, closing the door behind her, took off her jacket, and hung it up on the hook by the door. Elena hadn't come to visit her aunt Jenna and Uncle Ric in a while. Not since she moved into her new apartment, which was a few weeks ago.
" I'm in the kitchen." Jenna called out.
"Hey Aunt Jenna," Elena said as she walked into the kitchen, towards the coffee machine, poured herself a cup, and then joined Jenna at the table.
"Hey, what brings you by?" Jenna asked as she took a sip of her coffee and set her cup down on the table.
Elena sighs deeply as she takes the first sip of her coffee. "I went to see Tyler," she answers, setting her cup down.
Jenna cringed. "Hmm, how did that go?"
Elena snorted a laugh, shaking her head. "Not good. He's still refusing to sign the divorce papers, and because of that, I might have to take him to court, and that's the last thing I want to do." For weeks now, Elena has been waiting for Tyler to sign them so she can move on with her life. But, of course, Tyler is being an asshole about the whole thing.
" What does your lawyer have to say about this?"
After Elena took another sip of her coffee, she cleared her throat and set her cup back down. "I haven't told Damon yet, after I confronted Tyler about the divorce papers. I ended up here instead."
Jenna nods in understanding. "Are you staying for dinner tonight? Ric should be home soon. We're having Chinese food tonight."
Elena nods her head as she finishes her coffee. "Yeah, I'll stay for dinner."
Damon was in his office going through a case file for another client when someone buzzed him. Setting the files aside for now, Damon reached over and hit the button on his buzzer. "What is it, Rose?" He asked.
" Elena Gilbert is here to see you, Mr. Salvatore," Rose answered.
Damon looked over at his schedule and noticed that he didn't have an appointment with Elena today, which means it could be an emergency. "Send Ms. Gilbert in and thank you, Rose."
A few seconds later, the moment his office door opened, Damon looked up and noticed a very angry Elena walking into his office. "Elena, is everything okay?" Damon asked with concern.
" You tell me. Does this look okay to you?" Elena asked as she dropped a piece of paper onto his desk.
"Eviction notice?" Damon asked as he raised his eyebrow for a moment. "Are you getting kicked out of your apartment already?"
Elena sighs heavily as she drops into one of the chairs in front of Damon's desk. "No, it's worse than that. I'm getting kicked out of my bookstore," Elena said as she closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose.
" What are you talking about? And please start from the beginning."
Elena dropped her hand into her lap and took a deep breath. "Yesterday, I went to Tyler's office to confront him about not signing the divorce papers yet. Of course, he came up with a very lame excuse, telling me that he's still thinking about signing them. We ended up just arguing about it. This morning, when I was about to walk into the bookstore, I found the eviction notice taped on the door."
" And you think Tyler had something to do with it?" Damon asked as he raised his brow for a moment.
" Well, yeah. I mean, isn't it obvious? Yesterday, I confronted him about the divorce papers, and this morning, I received an eviction notice. So, yeah, I know it was Tyler."
" But it doesn't mean that it's Tyler. It could just be a consciousness," Damon said, trying to calm her down. "It just doesn't make any sense."
Elena sighs with a snort. "You don't know Tyler as well as I do. Trust me, this wasn't a conscious decision. This is his way of getting back at me for filing for divorce." Elena has had her bookstore for a few years now, and she refuses to let Tyler take it away from her.
Nodding his head, Damon looked down at the eviction notice as he sighed deeply. "I will see what I can do to fix this."
"Really? You can fix this problem?" Elena asked, a smile spreading across her face, happy and relieved to know that Damon was going to do everything he could to help with this problem.
" I'm going to try, but I can't guarantee anything. I hope you understand."
Elena nods. "I completely understand that. Now, what do we do with the other issue?"
" Well, with that other issue, I'm going to have to reach out to Mr. Lockwood's lawyer and see what's going on with his client and why he's refusing to sign the divorce papers."
After Elena talked to Damon about what was going on with the divorce papers and her unexpected eviction notice, she decided to visit Caroline for a few hours before heading home. She and Caroline hadn't had the chance to hang out in a while, not since the night Caroline talked Elena into going out after she found out that Tyler had cheated on Elena with Vicki Donovan.
"Okay, I don't understand. Tyler is refusing to sign the divorce papers, and because you confronted him about it yesterday, he's getting back at you by sending you an eviction notice?"
Elena ran her fingers through her hair, nodding her head. "Pretty much, yeah."
Wow, so what's Damon going to do about it?
" He said that he'll talk to Tyler's lawyer, and as for the eviction notice, he's going to try to fix it," Elena said as she reached for her wine glass, took a sip of her wine, and set the glass back down.
" And, how exactly is Damon going to fix it?" Caroline asked as she raised her eyebrows.
" I don't know. All Damon said he would fix it even though he might not guarantee anything." Whatever Damon is planning on doing, Elena just hopes that it's for the right reasons and that she's able to keep her bookstore.
" That sounds suspicious to me. Can you really trust Damon?"
Elena nods her head. "Of course I can. So far, Damon hasn't given me any reason not to trust him."
Caroline shrugged her shoulders as she wasn't so sure about Elena trusting Damon so easily. "I hope you're right," she said as she took a drink of her own wine.
"Thanks, Care."
" Now tell me, how was your date with Diego the other night?" Caroline asked with a huge grin on her face.
Elena sighs with a little chuckle. "It was um... it was alright." She answered as she shrugged her shoulders.
" Alright? Come on Elena, I set up you on a date with a very handsome guy and all you can tell me, that it was alright? You gotta tell me more than that or at least give me credit here." Caroline said as she wanted to know more about Elena's date.
" What can I say, Caroline? The date went fine. We had dinner and he took me home, that's all."
" So you're telling me that all you did was have dinner and he took you home? There was no kissing or touching of any kind?" Caroline asked in disbelief. "Elena, I'm one of your best friends. It's your responsibility to share the smut with me."
Elena snorted a little laugh. "Sorry to disappoint you, Caroline. But unfortunately, I don't have any smut to share with you today. But don't worry, though, if anything happens that ends up being smut-related, you will be the first one I tell."
" I will hold you to that." Caroline said with a smirk as she chuckled softly.
AN: Short chapter this time. But I hope you all still enjoy reading it. Delena moments are going to start soon, so don't worry about that. By the way keep those reviews coming. I do love reading them xD.
