It was Wednesday other wise known as Volunteering day. Adam was beyond excited for it. He woke to find Kim still sound asleep laying on top of him. He loved her even more like this. He hated to wake her but he needed to get up. And wasn't sure he could move her without waking her. "Kim darling." He whispered rubbing her back softly. She started to wake slowly looking. Her eyes fluttering open, a dreamy smile on her face seeing Adam looking at her. "Morning." She whispered softly. "Good morning. I wasn't sure I should wake you but I need to get up for work." He watched her nod but she never moved. "Just another minute." She smiled kissing his chest. "Did you sleep well?" He knew the answer but he still liked to hear it. "Absolutely. I love sleeping with you. Love sleeping on you. I sometimes wonder what's going to happen when we go back to the penthouse." She looked conflicted. "I wonder the same thing. But at the same time we have to live there too. You can't do this commute several times a day. That would cause too much stress on your body. So we are going to have hope." Adam knew this was on both their minds.

"We can deal with it later. I don't want to worry over nothing yet. How about we get showered together?" She asked pushing herself up some. "Sounds good to me." He helped her knowing this position wasn't comfortable for her. "Thanks for helping me up everyday." She laughed a bit knowing while it was a source of comfort it could also hurt him moving. "Well I don't want you getting hurt nor me. And in this position you could hurt me without trying." He laughed knowing she was thinking the same thing. "Yeah you are already in pain I would hate to cause more." She laughed knowing full well she was the cause of that pain. He just laughed grabbing some clean clothes moving to the shower. Kim followed behind patting his butt to move him along faster. Adam started the shower before turning his attention to Kim who was staring at him lovingly. "You my love are adorable." He kissed her sweetly before turning on the sink to brush his teeth. They only had one sink but they worked it out.

The couple showered semi quickly as Adam had a time line and Kim could shower longer later. They really just enjoyed touching each other especially naked and wet. Kim stepped out drying off quickly and heading to the kitchen to start breakfast in just a shirt. She was finishing cooking as Adam came out dressed for work. "Well hello!" He saw her cooking in barely anything. Wrapping his arms around her resting his head on her shoulder. "How exactly am I supposed to leave when you look like this?" He whispered watching goosebumps take over. "Well I don't know but your breakfast is ready." She bumped him back slightly so she could plate his food. "Well I guess I will eat this now and you later." He laughed knowing she was playing with him. She just laughed moving to sit with him eating some fruit and yogurt. "After you leave I'm gonna work out and then eat a proper breakfast. Then shower and get ready for today. I have a few things I need to get done but nothing major today. Anything you need done today?" She asked enjoying the down time together.

"I can't think of anything other than you relaxing a bit. What do you have to do today?" He wasn't sure since nothing was on the calendar. "Grocery shopping is the big one. I need a few things from the drug store. Nothing too crazy. Oh and I need to ship a pair of shoes back since I didn't wear the shoes for the Paris gala. I wore shoes I owned so I want to return them." Kim shrugged a bit. "Doesn't sound too hard. And yes please return those shoes. You didn't love them, you won't wear them so send them back." He was thankful she was shipping them back knowing they cost a lot of money. "Agreed. But look nice but you are right I didn't love them. So it's wasted money if I don't." Kim knew he was right and always worried about how much she spent. "Alright well I have to go. I will take the phone back to the penthouse locking it in the safe before I head in." He kissed her softly taking his plate to the dishwasher. He gathered the last of his things for the day before pulling her into one last heart stopping kiss. "Love you! Have a good day!" He kissed her forehead heading out. "Love you too! Please be safe!" He winked as he left their home.

Kim locked the door and headed to put her workout clothes on. She headed to her studio to start her workout. She really loved working out. It was always a great release for her to block out all the drama. But now it was just a way to stay fit, to stay healthy. It took roughly an hour before she was headed back to the kitchen to make herself breakfast. She brought her food outside to sit in the sunshine for a little before heading for a real shower. After she showered she got ready to head out for the day. She wanted her errands done so she could relax some before volunteering later in the evening. Adam made a very quick stop at the penthouse on his way to work. He dropped the phone in the safe, ensured it was locked again before checking the mail on the way out. He found a stack of mail which he could deal with later. He arrived at work with minutes to spare.

"Morning!" Adam dropped his bag heading to grab a coffee. "Morning! How's the leg?" Erin asked following him. "It's fine. Kims helping me keep it clean. But it's good." He shrugged making his coffee. He noticed someone in the office with his boss but wasn't concerned yet. Just as everyone settled for the day Voight left the office with Dr Choi. It confused everyone but noticed he moved straight to Adam. "Officer Ruzek. I was hoping I could talk to you briefly." He approached his desk. "Yeah what's going on?" Adam asked more confused than worried. "Your girlfriend is a ballerina? Right?" Choi asked. "Yeah Kim's the lead female dancer for the Chicago Ballet. Why?" He knew she was okay and this didn't seem like she was in trouble. "Great. I really need to get in contact with her. We have a pediatric cancer patient who wants to be a ballerina when she grows up but most likely that won't happen. I was hoping she could come visit the little girl dressed in full costume." He knew it was a lot to ask.

"Of course. She would love to do that! How about I give her your contact info and have her call you in a bit?" Adam offered knowing it would freak her out if the hospital called her number. "That works for me. Here's my card. I look forward to talking to her. Thank you." Choi offered a hand shake. "No problem. I would rather call her so she doesn't freak since I was in Med earlier this week, so I promise to have her call you shortly. I know time is of the essence." The men laughed before Choi left. Adam picked up his phone right away giving her a call. "Hey darling!" Adam started. "Hey baby! What's up?" She was shopping but able to talk. "So a doctor at med got a hold of me today asking for your information. They have a cancer patient who wants to be a ballerina when she grows up but she's probably not going to make that. So the doctor wanted to know if you could visit the little girl dressed in a costume?" He knew she would do it. "Oh absolutely! Send me the info for the doctor and when I'm headed home with the groceries I will call them. I will do it this week just in case. So text me the information." Kim was excited to do this. "Alright I will send it over now. Thank you! Get home safe my love." Adam was beaming with pride. "Stay safe, love you!" Kim hung up giddy for the info that popped up minutes later.

Kim finished her shopping loading the bags in the car before calling the number Adam had texted her. She was excited to help out any way she could. She was also thankful that Adam had been the one to call. Getting a random call from the hospital would have freaked her out. "Dr Choi speaking?" He answers right away hoping it was Kim. "Good morning Dr Choi. I'm Kimberly Burgess. You spoke with Officer Ruzek this morning about getting in contact with me." She wasn't sure he knew her name or not. "Yes Ms Burgess. Thank you for reaching out. I'm sure Ruzek explained what's going on and unfortunately time is of the essence here. Would it be possible to visit her tomorrow?" He asked hoping she could help quickly. "Absolutely! I'm in off season currently so tomorrow works for me. Just let me know what time works best and I will be there." Kim really was excited to do this. She had some texts to send to make the costumes happen but she would get it done. "Yes thank you! I will check her treatment schedule and let you know. I really appreciate this Ms Burgess. Thank you so much." They hung up shortly knowing this would bring joy to a sick child.

Adam was at work trying to get through the day excited to volunteer later. "Sounds like Kim was excited to help out." Kevin stated after hearing the call. "She lives for this. She lives for giving back and sick kids will always get her moving. I can almost guarantee she will have her partner going to all dressed up for a show. Should be interesting seeing them walking through the hospital in full costume. I might need to go just to see it." He laughed a bit knowing it would look odd to most people who weren't in the know. "Yeah that would look funny. But I hope they can pull it off quickly. Sounds important." Antonio stated after hearing the conversation. "It did sound important. And Kim will move mountains to make it happen." Adam was sure of it. The team returned to working their current case. It wasn't tough by any means but Adam was thrilled since they had plans and he refused to not go.

Several hours passed by before the team headed out leaving Adam behind to continue working to make this case bullet proof. He never wanted a perp to get off for filling out the paperwork incorrectly. They needed this air tight. As he finished his paperwork he pulled out the pile of mail from the penthouse. A large amount of catalogs all for Kim. Lots of junk mail for them both but one caught his attention. It was a letter from Kim's sister. He recognized the name right away and realized she was living in Kim's home town again. He knew the family had moved to Annapolis with Kim's money but had no clue what happened to Nicole. He wasn't sure what to do. Read it or leave it for Kim who he knew wouldn't read it. He decided to ask for forgiveness later and read the letter. He opened it anxious for what was inside. He read it carefully before calling Kim's business manager.

"Good afternoon Brian. I'm Adam Ruzek, Kim Burgess fiancé. I need your help." He started the call. "Sure Adam what's going on? Is Kim okay?" Brian asked worried. "Yeah she doesn't know about this just yet. But her sister reached out. And as you can imagine it's going to go very well. She's asking Kim for money. Stating Kim owes her. I assume you can handle this with her lawyer?" Adam explained as he sighed heavily. "Yeah I can handle that. Text me a copy of that letter so I know exactly what's going on. But please make sure you tell Kim what's going on. I know she will be upset but she has to know." Brian knew Adam was doing the right thing but he didn't need Kim pissed off at him. "I will when we get home tonight. She's been so relaxed and happy at the lake. And we are volunteering tonight at a soup kitchen. So after that I promise I will tell her. I just want her to know it's handled without getting her upset in the process." Adam was concerned this would cause a backslide.

"Trust me I get it and I got this. I know you know I have reservations about your relationship but this helps me see Kim's point of view. Okay so let me get on this. Don't forget to text me the photo and I will let you know when it's done. Thanks for the heads up." Brian hung up after that. Adam rubbed his face trying to calm down some. "Did you really read Kim's mail?" Al asked kind of surprised. "Yeah but only because it was from her sister. Otherwise I wouldn't have. I will tell her later when we are back at the lake again. I know it's wrong but I did it to protect her." He shrugged a bit feeling bad for what he did. "You did the right thing. She will understand. Especially since you handled it. You did good Ruz." Kevin was proud if his friend for protecting his girl but for also knowing what he did was not exactly right. But for the right reasons.

Kim had gotten home unloading all the groceries before texting Steven about the next day. He replied quickly that he was happy to help. She then got in contact with the person who took care of the costumes so they could get some outfits to wear for their visit to the hospital. They needed to arrive around noon which was fine for the partners. She was also obviously to the drama brewing with her sister but that was all for the better. With some time to kill she made lunch and headed to the deck to eat her lunch. It was a beautiful day out so she was going to enjoy as much time as she could. With her food long gone she moved to a lounge chair to relax a bit with her phone set to wake her in case she fell asleep. Her eyes were closed and she was relaxed when she felt a weight suddenly on top of her. She panicked for a moment opening her eyes to see a grey and white cat standing on her. She was confused but realized it was purring. So she went with it petting the cat who was loving on her. Rubbing his face all over hers as he drooled all over her.

The cat laid down on her chest as he got scratches from Kim. She even took a photo to send to Adam of her new little friend. Adam got the photo while working the case. He went blank as he stared at it. "Man you alright?" Kevin asked as he was watching Adam. "I think so but apparently Kim is hanging out with a cat on our deck right now. I hope like hell she didn't adopt it." He shook his head not wanting that on top of everything else. "Call her. It will drive you crazy if you don't." Erin laughed wondering what was happening. He called right away. "Hey darling! Who's the new friend?" He tried to stay calm. "I don't know. I was relaxing with my eyes closed and next thing I know he's on top of me purring. He has a flea collar so someone owns him. He's cute right?" Kim heard a sigh of relief coming from the other side. "He is very cute. Even more now that I know you didn't adopt him." He heard her laughing. "No i wouldn't do that without asking you first. And I'm not sure I'm ready for that again. But I like having a small friend to hang out with." He knew she was happy so that was. "Well thank you for that. I will let you get back to relaxing with your new friend. See you soon. Love you." He was relieved. "Love you too." She laughed hanging up again.

"Neighbors cat. Just chilling together. She's not sure she's ready to get another one and would ask first. Thank god. Last thing we need right now." He relaxed and headed back to work. The team chuckling at their friend but also just happy for them. Nothing seemed to keep them down for long. After Kim's little friend left she headed inside to shower up again and get ready to head back out. She really needed to ship the shoes back before she was stuck with them. She dressed comfortably but appropriate before heading to the post office to send back the unwanted shoes. Luckily the area around the lake was slower and less populated so there were no lines at the post office. Once they were shipped back she headed into downtown Chicago for a bit before heading to Adams work.

Just about 5 Kim entered the district seeing it was overly busy. She tried to stay out of the way not wanting to get hit in any way. She pushed through to the stairs noticing Platt wasn't there to buzz her up. She texted Adam right away. He headed down to get her. "Hey come on up. I just need a few more minutes then I'm ready to head out." He hugged her before leading her up the stairs. "It's all good. I'm early anyway so no worries." They entered the bullpen together holding hands. "Hello everyone!" Kim waved as she moved to sit at an empty desk. They all said hello before returning to work trying to finish the current case. She waited till he finished his paperwork before she spoke. "So I was thinking of some travel dates if you are available." She watched as his eyes turned to full amusement. "What did you have in mind?" He smiled wide seeing the excitement in her eyes. "Well the first I'm not sure you will want to go but I'm thinking heading to London for a weekend to seeing the Phillies play the Mets. It's this rivalry series thing. But literally once in a lifetime thing. So that's June 8th through the 11th. And then June 21st I really want to be in Philly for the game. We could fly out the night before. Visit Jim before the game, spend all day Saturday exploring Philly then drive south to the visit the beach for the day. Then Monday visit my grandmothers grave and then fly home." She knew she rambled a bit but it was a lot.

"Okay so i think they both sound great and i will try to make both happen. However if I can't do both I still want you to go to London. I would never want you to give up on that. The other trip sounds more important so that will be the one I will try most for. Now tell me what's so important about the 21st?" He knew there was more to the story. She heard her laughing a bit. "Well a former player is retiring so I want to be there." She smiled trying to give it all away. "Really? What's the full story?" He laughed watching her squirm a bit. "What can I say? It's one of my favorite players and he played for the Cubs for a bit so it would be fun for you to." She laughed and so did he. "Who is it?" He held her hand trying to get her to come out with it. "Fine it's Cole Hamels! I really want to see him retire as a Phillies." She shrugged laughing with him. "Sounds like a good time. And we will make it happen. Anything to see you smile like that." He pulled her into a hug. "Thanks baby!" She hugged him back loving his body wrapped around hers.

"You ready to head out?" He asked knowing they needed to get going. "Yeah let's head out. We got places to be." Kim waved bye to everyone as they headed out hand in hand. Smiling bright knowing the night ahead would be extremely rewarding. The soup kitchen was in a local church and was open to any one of low income or no income. They fed a lot of people everyday so the couple was excited to help those in their community. They arrived excited for this opportunity. It would be humbling for sure. They found their way down to the soup kitchen slightly nervous but overall excited. "Good evening. Are you Officer Ruzek?" A woman approached as they got closer. "Yes I am. This is my wife Kim. We are excited to get started. Where do you need us?" He had no idea it they would be serving or cooking. "It's lovely to meet you both. I'm Susan, I run this soup kitchen. So for tonight since it's your first time I will have you serving. Each person gets one scoop each. If at the end of the night we left overs we pack them up to send home with those less fortunate." She led them into the kitchen area.

"You will need to wear hairnets and gloves while you are here working. Other than that it's pretty straightforward. Be polite and feed as many people as possible. Just keep the line moving. Are you ready to get started?" The couple nodded and covered their hair and their hands as the doors opened. The couple spent over two hours scooping food to those who were waiting in line. It was sad seeing so many people and all the children who were there as well. But both Kim and Adam made a point to say hello to each person and wave to each child. As the line ended the couple mingled with the people eating. Wanting to hear their stories, get ideas of how to help the community more. The couple then headed to the kitchen to help clean up after all the food was consumed. They knew it was a lot of work and they weren't afraid to get their hands dirty.

It was close to 8 before the couple left for the evening. Adam drove Kim back to her car so they could head home together. It was almost 9 when they arrived home. They were both tired but couldn't be happier. Kim headed right to the kitchen grabbing a drink for her and Adam. He walked behind her wrapping his arms around her resting his hands on her belly. "We live an amazing life Kim. Tonight was another reminder how lucky I am. Not only to have you in my life but to have the two homes, two cars, we never have to struggle. I will never take that for granted." He kissed her head still content holding her. "I agree completely. Struggling early in life makes me appreciate the life I have now. I never want to go back to that life. We will make sure it never happens." The couple started to sway enjoying the closeness. "You ready for bed?" Kim asked rubbing his arms. "Yeah let's go. I just want to enjoy this closeness all night." He led her to the bedroom helping strip her of her clothes before taking his own clothes off.

They lay close next to each other naked. Their fingers roaming each other's bodies. She kissed him slowly as she wrapped her leg around his waist. He never said a word as he slowly took over making love to his wife. Giving them both the earth shattering high they were both searching for. After the shockwaves subsided the couple fell asleep still wrapped together. It been a humbling experience that left the couple more proud and excited for their future together. A life neither thought that would have. But it was here and they couldn't love it any more.
