A/N: Quick warning, there's some *slight* violence at the end between Jane and Dean... Other than that, yeah, everything else is relatively normal.
Lie Of Omission
"Where's Dean?"
Sam had literally just walked into the room and already Jane was on him, figuratively. "He's not with you?" Obviously not, but she had that look on her face, the one that indicated she was dealing with her psychic issues. He hated that.
"No Sam, he's not." Jane rearranged her face into something calm and sat on the edge of her freshly made up bed. They were all sharing a room, something they hadn't done in quite some time –not counting the time when Dean was in the basement.
They had been on the road ever since the Witness incident, hunting while Bobby hit the books for research. She knew she had fallen asleep in bed with Dean last night, but she had woken up and… both bed were empty. Sam's looked like it hadn't even been slept in.
"Well, no idea then." Sam dropped down at the table and picked up a book, her book, flipping to the page she had bookmarked.
"Out with Ruby?"
He peered at her over the page he was skimming, eyes narrowing slightly. "None of your business, Jane." There was a warning in his tone. He knew she hadn't said anything to Dean, not that there had really been time with everything that was going on lately, but she would. It was a matter of when.
They both jumped when the door flew open and was then slammed shut, Dean storming in and heading right for their bags. He didn't say a word, just began packing his and Jane's things.
"Dean?" She was a bit worried and it showed in her tone. He was pissed. His face was dark and tense, his body language was on edge, and that was never a good thing.
"Dean," Sam put down the book. "What are you doing?"
"Get your stuff out of the bathroom." Dean ordered, ignoring his brother as he tossed Jane her bag, watching as she hurried off to do as she was told. When she came back out, her bag was over her shoulder and she had slipped on her shoes.
"Wait, are you leaving?" Sam had stood up and was blocking the door.
"You don't need me. You and Ruby can go fight demons."
Jane's felt the blood draining from her face. Shit.
Sam's expression said he was thinking the same thing and when Dean tried to sidestep him, he shifted, blocking the path again. "Dean, come on, man, hold on."
Jane winced when Dean suddenly punched Sam. Punched him hard enough to cause Sam to whirl around, clutching his jaw. She met his gaze when he opened his eyes, not knowing what to say or do, so she settled with just standing there.
"Satisfied?" Sam grunted when he had turned back to Dean.
Dean just punched him again. Then he tossed his bag down. He took a deep breath, obviously prepared to let loose with whatever he had been trying not to say.
Jane put down her bag and leaned against the wall, preparing for a long morning.
Here Be Some Violence: skip the rest of this chapter if you don't want to see Dean lose his marbles temporarily.
"Did you know?"
Considering that after the conversation in the motel room the other morning followed by an immediate rugaru hunt that had not ended well for anyone, Jane had thought that the bit about Sam was done. They had all retreated to the motel and were back in adjacent rooms. Sam had immediately retired to tend to himself while she had taken Dean into the bathroom to deal with his wounds. She had been outside during the ordeal, which had been kind of bad because the guy –Jack-, when his wife came flying out, she had flown right into Jane.
She had thought Jane was just a regular person and began babbling. Jane had had no idea what to do, and didn't know what she knew now, so she had told the woman to get herself gone, to go to a friend's or something. Then she found out about the woman being pregnant with a monster's spawn, she felt like an ass.
The car ride back to the motel had been awkward, she had sat in the backseat and kept her mouth shut while the boys talked. Dean apologized, Sam scoffed. It was awkward but at least it was settled. Or so she had thought.
Jane remained silent, finishing up with the bandage before turning to put everything away. She knew silence was tantamount to admitting guilt, but she just didn't know what to say.
"You did, didn't you?"
The betrayal in his voice made her cringe.
"You knew Sammy was out with the hellbitch and you didn't say a damn word to me about it!"
His tone had gone from betrayal to royally pissed in .001 seconds and Jane cringed, letting out a shriek when he shoved her backwards into the wall. "Dean!" He hadn't pushed hard, not as hard as she knew he could, but the very fact that he had done it was scary.
"You knew!" Dean had punched his brother twice for hiding this from him, for running around using his psychic crap with Ruby… he wanted to punch Jane, God did he, but he didn't, because he loved her and even in his rage, he knew if he did more than just that warning push, there would be no coming back. Instead he drove his fist through the cheap plaster bathroom wall, ignoring her screams. "You knew!"
Jane was nodding her head so fast there was a chance she might nod it off. "I meant to tell you, Dean!" Which, she had, but everything had been so hectic, and it kept slipping her mind.
"How long have you known?" He demanded, not bothering to remove his fist from the hole, afraid he would punch again.
Jane bit her lower lip so hard it split.
Dean's eyes widened and he jerked away from her, ignoring the pain in his hand when it came out of the hole, some debris coming with it. "How long, Jane?" His voice had dropped to a harsh whisper.
"Before you came back." She admitted, blinking back tears as she met his incredulous stare. Those eyes she loved looking into were filled with disbelief, and anger and she could see the hurt in them as well. She had lied to him, sort of. Omitted the truth, about Sam, it was like she had broken an unspoken, cardinal rule.
"All this time…" He stepped away from her, stepped out of the bathroom, needing to put space between them. "You knew… all this time, and you didn't say one word to me, Jane, not one damn word!"
Hesitantly, she followed, biting down again on her bloody lip when anything not bolted down began to fly.
His rational mind was telling him to knock it off, that he was scaring her, but he just couldn't. She wasn't Sam, he couldn't knock her around and expect her to keep her ass in line afterwards. She would leave him then, and even though he was seeing red, he didn't want her to leave. He wanted her to be honest with him, not hide important things –like Sammy messing around with a goddamn demon- from him. "Damn it, Jane!"
She covered her head when the bedside lamp went flying, not about to get any ceramic in her face and began working her way towards him, careful to avoid anything that might come flying her way. "I'm sorry." It was the only thing she could say, and even then, it still sounded worthless. "I'm sorry, Dean." She reached out and wrapped her arms around him, feeling his entire body shaking and squeezed her eyes shut tight. "I'm sorry." She whispered into his neck.
He crushed her against him, burying his face in her hair, knowing he was probably hurting her with how tightly he was holding on but couldn't find it in him to loosen up. He just focused on his breathing, on calming down. "Never again, Jane." He rasped finally, not pulling his face away, the words coming out slightly muffled. "Understand me?"
She nodded against him.
"You never lie or keep things from me, ever."
