Anna and the Psychic
"Housekeeping."
"Not now!" Dean shouted, shooting an angry look at the motel room door, as if it would send the maid scurrying away. He glanced back down at Jane, who holding a very messily put together ice pack to her ankle.
"Sir, I've got towels."
Jane rolled her eyes. "For real?"
He eyed her for a moment before heading towards the door, nodding at Sam who was already moving into position. He opened the door and was almost barreled aside as the maid came plowing in. "Couldn't you just leave them outside?"
She ignored him and pressed a slip of paper into Sam's hand. "I'm at this address."
Sam looked confused. "What?"
"Go now." She continued, as if he understood what he was saying, finally looking at the other occupants of the room. "Go through the bathroom window-"
"Ruby?" Jane interrupted, a might incredulous. Last she had seen the demon chick, she had been possessing a vegetable.
"Don't stop. Don't take your car. Don't pass go." Ruby was focusing on Sam once more. "There are demons in the hallway and in the parking lot."
While Sam began playing 21 questions with Ruby, Dean was hustling butt trying to get Jane in running condition. "This is going to hurt, sweetheart." He said apologetically, just before sliding her tennis shoe on her foot with the sprained ankle.
It sure did. Jane held her breath while he got her laced up and then gripped his shoulders as he helped her to stand. "Dean…"
"You'll be fine, I got you."
She nodded.
"Glad you could make it, and the gimp."
Jane flipped Ruby off from her place in the cabin doorway, where she was leaning heavily against Dean. She had popped the pain pills Sam had procured for her, but there was really no helping her ankle, or how swollen it was. She was beginning to suspect a fracture. She looked past Ruby to the girl, Anna. "You okay?"
Anna nodded, looking calmer than the rest of them. "Yeah, Ruby's not like other demons."
"Great, now she's on the pro-demon bandwagon." Dean muttered under his breath, helping Jane into the cabin before shutting the door behind them.
"Hey Sam, do you think it'd be all right if I called my parents? They're probably freaking out about now."
Sam exchanged looks with Dean, clearing his throat. "Anna, you see… Your, ah, parents…"
"What?"
"Look, I'm sorry." He said finally, looking both gruff and apologetic at the same time.
Jane had to avert her eyes at this, instead choosing to focus on her ankle and the pain. Anything was better than the girl hearing about her parents being dead. She continued focusing on that until everything else was blanked out. When she finally snapped out of her musings, Ruby was calling the guys idiots for losing the knife and Anna was nowhere to be seen.
She tried scooting from her spot against the wall when the door burst open, letting out a sigh of relief when she spotted Castiel. She could overlook the fact that Uriel was with him.
"Tell me you guys are here to help." Dean also sounded relieved, though he wasn't lowering defenses. It was Uriel, Uriel put him on edge.
"We're here for Anna." Cas wasn't even looking at Dean.
Jane felt a sharp tug.
"Here for her?"
"Give her to us." Uriel didn't have the patience for the monkeys and it showed.
"Are you going to help her?" Sam sounded about as hostile as Uriel.
"She has to die."
"That's a bit harsh, isn't it?" Jane interrupted, once she had regained usage of her tongue. As far as she could tell, Anna was no threat to anyone, well… maybe the angels, if she decided to bat for the other team, which didn't seem to likely.
"Don't worry woman, I'll kill her gently." Uriel promised, sounding much too pleased about the prospect of finally killing a lowly human.
"You're some heartless sons of bitches, you know that?" Dean was staring at Castiel.
Castiel just returned the stare. "Yes we are, now give her to us."
This wasn't going to end well.
"She sent the angels packing?"
"With a messed up drawing and her own blood."
Pamela looked thoughtful, drumming her fingers on her thigh. "She must be pretty important if angels wanted to take her out of the game."
"Sounds like she's more than just a pawn piece." Jane agreed, turning down the dirt road that led to the house. "Thanks Pamela, for coming. I know-"
"Hush up." Pamela waited until the car came to a stop before turning in her seat, her head facing where she assumed Jane was sitting. "I've been looking for some payback on those bastards."
"Castiel."
"Yeah, him." Her lips thinned as she fingered her shades. "He owes me a pair of eyes."
"I don't… I don't think he can return them."
"Probably not." Pamela sighed melodramatically before smiling. "Let's go see what those boys have dragged us into this time, shall we?"
"Do we have too?"
"You know, that didn't work out the way I thought it would."
"Another angel." It hadn't worked out the way Jane had thought either. She figured Anna would wind up being another special kid, like Sam had been, or was, whatever. Nope, Anna had done one even better. "I get that angels fall, it's in the Bible, but…"
"I'm not going to ask. I really, really don't like angels." Pamela groaned, tipping her head back until it hit the headrest. "Why're they having you do all the chauffeuring?"
"Keeps me out of trouble and danger, Dean has a thing about me being in danger." Jane laughed, glancing across the seat at the older woman. "You already knew though, didn't you?"
"I got some… protective vibes from him."
"Is that all?"
"The sex is great, isn't it?"
Jane just smiled, shaking her head.
Pamela was grinning as well. "Yeah, I bet it is."
