Okay everyone, I'm glad you like the story and thank you for the follows, faves, reviews, and PMs. I'm due to have baby #3 within the next two weeks, wrapping up the last two weeks of a course for school before taking some time off, and enjoying the lovely process that is purchasing a home. Yes, my timing and scheduling abilities are really, really horrible, I know, lol. This will probably be the last chapter of End of Me for a month or two. I will be back after things are settled down a bit and any updates I *may* make are not likely to be anything overly long and very sporadic. Thank you for supporting the story, even with some of the more doubtful moments!

105: Dying for an Introduction

"What the hell are you doing here? What the hell is that?"

"Well hello to you too, Bobby, and it's a dog, duh." Jane said dryly, shoving her way past the older man when he obviously wasn't about to extend the courtesy of opening his door any wider and letting her in. She was tired and her yipping mutt wasn't helping. Once they had established that their life would be hunting, and on the road a lot, they had made the decision about Baby. Jane had refused to give her up, even knowing what could possibly happen. "I was worried about you."

"You were worried about me."

"Yes." She watched as he reluctantly shut the door behind them, looking around and debating on if she should put down the wiggling Baby, the house was still dangerous but that dog wasn't exactly an actual pup anymore. She was rapidly approaching the year old mark and she was no longer tiny and easily held. "You seemed off when Dean called." And Dean had called a lot, about that damn thing they were hunting. Given that after the thing with the staff, and Castiel, and the other angel, Balty something… she figured popping in on Bobby would be a welcome reprieve. "So here I am."

"Jane… I'm fine," Bobby smiled weakly, beginning to hear his house guest rousing downstairs. "I called them back, told them what it was."

"What's that noise?" Baby was squirming desperately, barking.

"I uh… nothing?"

"That's from the panic room, isn't it?" She put down Baby, watching as her dog took off towards the doors.

Bobby nearly bashed her in the skull when she headed for the basement, alongside that mutt. "Balls!"

"You sold your soul?"

"Didn't they tell you?"

Jane took 'they' to mean the boys, and of course they hadn't. She glared at Bobby from across the table, ignoring the cup of coffee he had set down before her as some sort of peace offering. She learned something new every day, sometimes a couple of things. Like today, for example, she had learned that Bobby had sold his soul to that Crowley demon, the crossroads guy who had 'helped' the brothers with the Colt and apparently some other things. Demons… why did these idjits keep making deals with demons? "Course they didn't." She snorted, finally taking the mug.

The other thing she had learned was that apparently if you got the bones of the actual human a demon used to be, you could burn them and kill the demon properly and not just send it back to hell or just harm them if you wanted to play 21 questions first. That was handy. She had also learned that some woman had what appeared to be a crush on Bobby, she had brought him a cobbler. Bobby seemed pretty damn pleased with the interaction while Jane had remained hidden in the kitchen, at least until the demon began wailing. Then she had gone down to shut the damn thing up. "So what next?"

"What do you mean what next?" He glared at her, trying to ignore how good the cobbler smelled. It was sitting between them. He had even gotten down plates, figuring he could share… it might put her in a less 'I should slap you silly' mood. "You're leaving is what next. You and your dog."

Baby was laying under the table, a saucer of water near her, chewing contentedly on whatever it was Jane had given her. The young canine hadn't shied away from the demon but growled and barked her head off, prancing around Jane's feet.

"Not likely." He had gone back downstairs after the woman, Marcy, had left. He had gotten the name of Crowley, or who Crowley used to be. Unless the demon had been lying, it wouldn't be the first time. "I'll-" Jane groaned when his phone went off, looking towards the little station he had with the various lines. "Have fun."

He glared at her as she pushed away from the table. They both jumped when there was pounding on the door. "You get that."

Nodding, Jane headed that way, trying not to smile at how surly he sounded when he answered the phone. "Stay, Baby."

"Vamp, shifter, what?"

Rufus was still eyeballing Jane suspiciously, even though Bobby had vouched for her several times. She supposed being known as a Winchester wasn't doing her any favors, even if she wasn't technically a Winchester. He did seem to like her dog though.

She came to a stop at the truck bed, eyeballing the tarp that covered whatever it was the old hunter had killed. He had nearly taken her head off when she answered the door, obviously expecting Bobby. Turned out, Rufus needed help burying this thing and the cops were chasing him. Today was shaping up to be a doozy. "What the hell is that?"

"That is an-"

"Okami." Bobby breathed, eyes taking in the creature. "Where'd you shiv it?"

"Billings." Rufus pursed his lips, glancing at Jane again.

"I've only seen one of these in Japan…"

Jane cocked her head to the side. This thing wasn't native? Kind of like the Lamia thing the boys were hunting… "Do monsters usually… uh, migrate?"

Rufus shot Bobby a look.

"Dean and Sam are hunting a Lamia."

"I thought they never left Greece?"

That answered her question.

"Who are you again?"

Jane had been a part of the brother's lives for four, five years now and this was the first time she had ever had to deal with the FBI. She knew of Sheriff Jody Mills, and vice versa, but Mills contact had mostly been with Sam and Dean, and of course Bobby. Mills had always thought of Bobby as the crazy town drunk, until the zombie thing, that tended to make a believer out of people. "I'm a friend of the family." She offered weakly, hearing Bobby in the kitchen on the phone, knowing it was one of her boys who had called. It sounded like they weren't having an easy time with the Lamia, and from Bobby's hurried mumblings, she was guessing sauté meant cook something.

"And your name was-?"

Well crap. Jane rattled off the name she had been using when she and Dean had gone on their not so permanent retirement, knowing that ID was now gone. She'd never want to use it again, not if it got tied to something crazy, or Winchester related.

Bobby appeared, frowning as he took them all in, the frown only deepening when a sketchpad was held up.

"Have you seen this man? Rufus Turner? Also known as Luther Vandros… and Ruben Studdard?"

Jane had to look anywhere but at them so she didn't start laughing out loud. What was with hunters and using celebrity names? She'd never understand it but she was also relieved it wasn't just her boys who did it, it made them seem less dorky.

"No, I've never seen that dick."

Now she was really struggling not to laugh.

Bobby likely would have been immediately screwed if not for Mills. Jody offered to look through the house while Agent Adams went outside. Personally, Jane figured screwing was coming anyway. There was a body in the basement and one buried outside. She was being selfish and wondering how boned she was, nevermind Bobby. "Baby, come."

Baby appeared came trotting out of the kitchen, taking the time to sniff at shoes.

"I'll go out with you, Agent." She volunteered, whistling for Baby to follow her. "My dog needs out anyway." She flashed him a smile, already ushering him out the door.

"Now, you said you're a friend of the family…"

Well shit. "Yes, sir."

"How?"

She sighed, rubbing the heel of her palm to her forehead, wondering what a suitable lie would be. Bobby didn't really have any family, and anyone who knew him knew he wasn't Mr. Sociable. "If you really must know, I'm a relative." She said finally, slowly.

"A relative?" Adams didn't stop walking but shot her a speculating look.

"From the wrong side of the tree, if you get my meaning." She managed to make herself look a wee bit ashamed.

"Illegitimate?"

She was letting him lead the way, which turned out to be a mistake because she was distracted. Baby had gone off to find a place to pee no doubt, and Adams had just come to a stop. "Ew."

"Ew? What is this? Explain."

This was a rather large hole in the ground, a hole she knew had been dug and filled not that long ago. What it had been filled with was no longer there and that was more disturbing than the FBI being there. "Septic exploded." She said, eyeballing the ground, mindful where she was putting her feet. "Bobby got it cleaned up pretty good, but uh…" She shot a pointed look at his obviously expensive shoes. "I'd watch my step."

It was a bit amusing seeing him panicking and checking the soles.

Bobby had exploded on the brothers, and Jane had only stood there, jaw on the ground and listen. She knew he had been having a rough time, his phone never stopped ringing and people kept popping up at the door. Herself included, and she felt horrible with each word that came out of his mouth. She had come here to see him, help him out if she could, and she got the feeling she wasn't doing much besides adding undue burden.

Then there was the bit with Rufus being busted and Bobby needing Sheriff Mills to assist with bringing Rufus to this county, at least. He had been so… defeated when Jody had told him no, only for Jody to bring Rufus right to the door. That had been gross… Rufus had swallowed that ring as well as retrieved it.

"So who is this guy again?" She had heard the run down before, and met his ghostly son, but Jane was a bit… concerned, about finally seeing Crowley in person, so to speak.

"Rumor has it the new King of Hell… you probably should go somewhere else." Bobby eyeballed the devil's trap they had just laid down before reaching for the salt. "You're not on his radar, I don't think. No sense in putting yourself there."

"I'm staying." Just in case, the last time Bobby and Crowley had gone round, Bobby had wound up without a soul.

"Suit yourself."

She did position herself back in a corner, out of reach, and waited.

Taking a deep breath, Bobby began the ritual.

Jane watched, not bothering to take notes because she preferred not to truck with demons. She had seen how that worked out for people, not so well, ever. When Crowley appeared, she was a bit surprised. From the back, there wasn't much to see. Longish black coat and short brown or black hair, but what was really… interesting, was that he was short. He didn't exactly strike fear into her heart. But he did make her Spidey senses all tingly.

Then he turned, and met her gaze, his somewhat annoyed expression flickering in something amused. "Well, well, Mrs. Winchester… I've been dying to meet you." He spared a sideways glance at Bobby, who didn't look pleased with the way the situation was progressing. "Come now Bobby, be polite and introduce us."
