Author's Note: Just an idea I came up with after re-watching season 3, rated T just in case. Enjoy!

"Jane," Maura began, waiting until her companion turned her full attention upon her before continuing, "there's something I wish to discuss with you."

Jane smiled. "Let me guess, you want to know what to get me for my birthday?"

"No, I already have your present," she stated, causing the brunette to blink. "I wanted to discuss the best time to give it to you."

"Why not give it to me at the party my Mother is bound to throw for me?" Her companion hesitated. "Maura?"

"I realised at your last party that I have more funds available than others for gift-giving, and I don't want them to feel bad. So, when's best to give it to you?"

Jane smiled. "Why don't you just give it to me now?"

With a smile, Maura retrieved from her purse a folder similar to the one she had given the brunette the year before, and handed it over. Jane scrutinised her for a moment, before opening it. She gaped. "I can't just go to Hawaii," she protested.

"You're entitled to take a holiday Jane."

"You know that wasn't what I meant. This is too expensive."

"Not really," she replied easily and Jane scowled. "I used my frequent flier miles to pay for the tickets."

"You couldn't use that to cover the cost of the hotel," she retorted.

"No, but since I'm a member, I do get a significant discount. Although we would have to share a room."

"We have before," Jane replied absently. "If this isn't that expensive, then why wouldn't you give it to me with the others?" she demanded.

"Because they would draw the same conclusions as you, and I didn't want them to feel bad. I thought we could go to a luau," she added. "You said you always wanted to go to one."

"And if I don't make a point of going now, I'll always come up with excuses so I never go," she spoke slowly.

"And I thought it might be good for you to have good memories associated with it, rather than the negative ones-" she cut herself off rather than finish the sentence.

"You realise there might be a time or two when it resurfaces," Jane cautioned.

"Which is why I booked the second ticket for myself. I thought you might prefer for me to be there if you get emotional, rather than Angela. If I was wrong-"

"You weren't wrong," Jane interrupted. "Mom feels guilty enough that she was praising Dominick, without seeing me freak out over what he did." She blew out a breath and met her companion's gaze with a smile. "It's perfect, Maura, thank you."

"You're welcome Jane."
