Chapter 1 - Prologue: The rebirth of two

Off the coast of one of Kanto's seaside towns was a small island that didn't show on any of the maps or any of the satellite visuals. Though based on the size of said island, it would be considered insignificant. At least if it wasn't for the structure that took up half of its mass. Inside the structure were a group of people in lab coats looking over many of the computers and paper readouts, with one standing in front of a tank that held what looked to be a small orb of light that seemed to pulse every few seconds

The man standing in front of the tank that held this orb of light placed his hand on the tank with a forlorn look on his face. "Soon, Amber."

"Doctor Fuji, can I ask you to look over these numbers. I'm not sure but something seems off about them."

The now-named Fuji turned away from the tank ad walked over to the female doctor that called him. As he moved to stand next to her, he looked at a tank that she was standing next to.

Unlike the tank, Dr. Fuji was standing in front of, this one held a small creature submerged in a fetal position with a long tail wrapped around its body. It had two small protrusions on the top of its head which was slightly feline shaped. Its arms held its body in an X formation and had a three-fingered hand with a small ball-like fingertip. One thing about this creature is that it was small, about the size of a Pichu

Dr. Fuji looked to the female doctor as he asked "what are the irregularities you wanted me to see?"

She looked up from the long sheet of paper that had a graph on it before she pointed at a certain section of it. "Here. the readings were consistent for all this time and nothing had changed until now."

Dr. Fuji looked at what she was looking at and saw the slight hiccup in the constant flow. "These are its mental readouts. I can only assume that its mental capabilities have increased, to a minuscule degree."

She nodded her head in understanding but confusion was still evident on her face. "But why now? I assumed that its powers would increase at a slower pace."

Dr. Fuji looked at the creature in the tank with a look of contemplation. "It is not so shocking when you think about it." He circled around the tank as he tried to think of a good explanation. He smiled when one came to mind. "Take Abras for example. They are born with their psychic abilities comparable to well trained human psychics,-" He then gestured to specimen in the tank. "And the levels we read coming from this one are on levels far surpassing even trained Alakazam."

She nodded as she understood his analogy. She looked at the readout that she had as she brought up her concern. "Yes, but if I am reading these right, the levels we had been reading for the past month should not just hiccup like this."

Dr. Fuji rubbed his chin in thought. "Perhaps its mind has developed enough and has gained a sense of awareness... or it could have gained one of its powers." He placed his hand on the tank as he looked to the female scientist. "You must also realize that this is a clone of an extinct pokemon, with many different enhancements we had given it, so there will most likely be some irregularities that will pop up." He smiled at the female scientist before he placed a hand on her shoulder reassuringly. "Besides, the small jump should not be a sign of concern."

She felt her concerns fade thanks to him and nodded. "Yes, sir. Though I feel like anything small should be a show of concern. Especially since it has only just been created a month ago"

"Yes, you are right. Monitor it as much as you can and inform me of anything." Dr. Fuji then began to make his way out of the lab. Once he reached the door he paused as something came to mind and turned to address it. "oh, one more thing. We will begin the cloning process of the other three as well. Please inform Giovanni of our progress when you have the time."

"Yes, doctor."

Dr. Fuji smiled and then left the lab with the female scientist moving to handle the task she was given.

Unseen by the scientists in the lab, a faint blue aura flickered around the clone before it dissipated.

However, the aura was noticed by a Zubat that was hanging from the ceiling, hidden in the shadows. The Zubat's gaze was intently watching the clone, as still as a statue.

~a week later~

{EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! ALL STAFF MEMBERS ARE TO MAKE THEIR WAY TO THE CLONING CHAMBER IMMEDIATELY!}

The entire lab was in chaos with a blaring alarm being heard through the entire facility. All the scientists were running around the lab in a panic, with the cloning tanks at the center of the chaos.

"Put out the fires!"

"Watch the wires!"

"Shut it down! Shut it down!"

Objects and equipment were lighting up in a blue glow before they were rip off what they were attached to and sent flying in random directions. Not only did the scientists have to duck under heavy equipment, they had to avoid blasts of pink and blue that did more damage to the surrounding area.

The reason for the chaos was simple.

"Watch out!"

*BOOM*

The clone in the tank was emitting a hazy blue aura with the occasional pink whisp, sending psychic blasts throughout the lab.

Dr. fuji ran into the lab and saw the destruction that was occurring. He dove out of the way of a psycho cut, one that barely missed him. He pushed himself off the ground and looked to where it came from and saw that the clone's powers were out of control. He ran over to the tank's console and began to type in some commands. "We need to suppress its powers! Infuse it with the suppressants immediately!"

A doctor turned toward Dr. Fuji before asking. "How much do we AAHH" He was blown away when the computer behind him exploded.

"Inject as much as you can! Otherwise, its powers could destroy everything we have!" He looked to the right and was thankful to see that the tank holding the glowing being was undamaged. 'I will not lose you because of this.' He was determined to both it and the clone that was doing the damage, however, a piece of debris fell and almost landed on the glowing being. Seeing this, he looked back to the other scientists. "DO IT! NOW!"

The other scientist ran to the computers around the clone and began to input commands.

The suppressants were meant to lower psychic abilities. It didn't have a long lasting affect, lasting only ten to fifteen seconds, which made it perfect in calming this psychic pokemon.

initializing this contingency required multiple authorizations to use so it couldn't be done by accident or other unneeded actions.

The equipment around the clone lit up as they began to inject a liquid into the tank, causing the color of the liquid to change from an amber-orange to a teal green. The blue aura around it slowly began to subside.

Levitating objects lost their glow before falling to the ground, signifying that it was working.

The scientists breathed a sigh of relief while some of them looked over the mental readings to see that they were lowering. Not only that but its life signs were returning to normal as well. They al smiled as they saw that everything was returning to the normal levels.

Dr. Fuji sighed as he slumped against the computer he was using. He looked around to see the damage done and was happy to see that despite the chaos, most of the more important equipment were still functional. There were some that needed repairs but they could re-route the required functions through another area.

A few of the scientists began putting out the fires and shutting down the power of a few computers so they could remove the cables and wires that were still an electrical dangers.

"Doctor!"

His head turned to the scientist who called him. It was one of the scientists that were monitoring the clone's vitals and the panic on his face was foreboding. This caused worry to run through his body as he asked. "What is it?"

In a panic, the scientist began typing on the computer. "Its readings are still dropping, and at a fast rate! If this goes on, all vitals could drop to zero and it will die!"

Dr. Fuji jolted to his feet before running towards the scientist, pushing him aside, and looking at the readings himself. He saw that they were now far below the normal readings. He even saw that its molecular structure was becoming unstable. "Damn! Get a counter agent to the suppressants! NO, get the mental enhancements and begin administrating it immediately!"

The scientists began rushing off to do what they could to keep the clone alive. A few of them began typing on the computers while others went off to get the drug they developed to enhance psychic pokemon.

"Doctor! Another drop! Signs are now below 10%!"

Dr. Fuji panicked as he looked to the clone in time to see it fading. "No!" He tried to keep it alive by typing in commands into the console. if he could keep it alive long enough for them to administer the Enhancement drug, they could save it. He looked back up and his eyes widened as, right before his eyes, the clone vanished from inside its tank. "NO!" He moved to the tank and pressed his hands against the glass.

Everyone stood there looking at the, now empty, tank in shock as it all happened so fast.

"Dr. Fuji."

The man jumped at the sudden voice, brining him out of his shock. The voice caused him to sweat as he knew who it belonged to. He turned to the entrance of the lab to see the one who owned this operation and gulped. "Giovanni…...we were not expecting you."

"Clearly."

Giovanni was a tall man with slick back burgundy hair and a permanent looking scowl on his face. He was wearing a black suit with a red dress shirt underneath his buttoned-up jacket and on the left side of his chest was a solid red R.

Everyone there watched as Giovanni walked over to the now-empty clone tank with his hands folded behind his back.

Dr. Fuji stepped back, letting the man access to the tank.

Giovanni stood in front of the tank for a minute before speaking. "Tell me, doctor, what am I looking at?"

Dr. Fuji was nervous as he tried to come up with a possible answer that wouldn't cause him to receive the man's ire. However, he knew that he could not lie to the man as Giovanni is not the kind of man you wish to lie to. "It is..." He gulped as he felt that his collar was too tight now. "…..The tank that once held the failed cloning attempt."

Giovanni nodded but kept his gaze on the bubbling liquid. "So you admit that you have failed me." his eyes shifted to the reflection of the doctor that stood behind him

"...yes…..sir…."

Giovanni nodded once more. "I am a patient man, doctor. I understand that there will always be hiccups in experiments like this." He then turned around and looked the doctor in the eye. "You have been honest in your failure and I appreciate that." He walked forward towards the doctor until they were face to face.

Fuji felt incredibly small under the man's gaze. Giovanni tone was even, but the glare the man gave betrayed the fury.

"However, you will not fail me again." He leaned in on the man, who leaned back in fear. "Am I clear?" Seeing the doctor nod nervously, he straightened up and moved past the doctor He made his way toward the other tank, the one that held the glowing being. "Remember that it was thanks to me that you are able to continue this pathetic attempt of yours. Fail me again and not only will you lose my support, but you will lose more than just your life." Giovanni then turned and began make his leave. As he walked spoke with authority. "You have one last chance to create my weapon. And to ensure that there are less chances of failure, I will be sending all your data to another facility of mine. Should they succeed where you failed, then you can consider our business….concluded."

Once the man left, Fuji fell to his knees as they gave out. He was relieved that they would still be allowed to continue their research but they now had less leeway on this.

"Sir?"

Fuji looked to the scientist that spoke to him.

"What do we do, sir? Our previous attempt barely lasted a month. How do we make sure the next attempt will survive."

Fuji took a breath and got back to his feet before he walked over to glowing being. He thought about what had happened throughout the month and tried to come up with ways they could ensure that they succeed. "Perhaps…...its powers were too great for its infant body. Its psychic powers could have been what destroyed it as it was far beyond the power of fully evolved pokemon. Much like a Pichu is unable to handle its own electricity."

"Then what do we do?"

"Accelerate its growth rate to match its power increase." He turned away from the being and back to the empty tank. "We can also start with the other three pokemon. The results should help us in finishing the experiment. For now, we shall fix up the lab and begin once more."

The other scientists were a bit apprehensive but they decided to follow orders. "At once, doctor."

As the scientist began to fix up the lab and begin once again, a Joltik that was hidden in the shadows shifted it's glowing blue eyes away from the scene before it disappeared in a small blue flash.

~Pallet town~

Delia Ketchum gazed out of the window as the rain pattered on the glass before running down its smooth surface. Yet, despite her gaze looking intently out into the rain, she saw nothing. Red eyes gazed at nothing as dried tear streaks were seen on her cheeks.

She should have been happy. She thought she would be. But how can she be when she lost what she was suppose to be happy about. She had been looking forward to this for months. day after day, she felt her excitement soar higher as the expected day was closing in. The day she would become a mother.

The day she found out that she was expecting was the happiest she had ever felt and despite losing the father only two months into her pregnancy she still held onto her happiness as she still had her child.

The day came when she went into the hospital to welcome her son to the world.

Yet, some issues occurred during the birth and the doctors began to scramble in order to save him. As she was put under, she prayed to Mew, Arceus, any deity pokemon out there that would hear her, that her son would be ok.

But it was not to be.

She hoped for good news when she woke up, but the expressions they all gave her broke her heart.

Now she sat in her home, inside the would-be baby room with the only sound being heard was the rain, almost as if the world was depicting Delia's emotions.

All her happiness had left her when the dark news registered in her mind.

She turned to look at the room she had prepared for the baby. She imagined little events that could have happened had things gone differently.

Baby laughs when she played with him.

Tucking him in when it was time for him to sleep.

Hearing his first words.

Watching him take his first steps.

Things she would never get the chance to see.

A bolt of lightning lit up the room in blue light. She would have ignored it if it weren't for the fact that the blue light gradually got brighter, long since the lightning should have passed. The light coming from outside was almost blinding and despite how she felt, her curiosity had gripped her, influencing her to make her way downstairs towards the front door. As she got closer to the door, she noticed that the light peaking through the door cracks were finally dying down. She moved to the door and gripped the handle just as the light vanished and she thought about whether or not she should open the door. Taking a minute to think. she made her decision, and slowly turned the knob and opened the door to see what it was. Yet when she did, she saw that there was nothing there. Looking around to see if there was anything at the sides of the door, she saw nothing. She let out a sigh and turned to walk back inside until-

*achoo whimper*

Delia paused and looked back outside before lowering her gaze and saw something laying on the ground. It was a creature she had never seen before and it was shivering, which caused her to immediately pick it up and bring it inside. Due to the lights being off, she could not see clearly, but she knew her home well enough to make her way to the living room and placed it on the couch. Picking up a blanket she had draped on the side of the couch, she wrapped the small thing in it and held it close to try and warm it up. She held it until it stopped shivering before she got up and moved to turn the light on so she could see what it was. Once the lights were on, she moved back to the couch and put it down…..or at least she would have if it weren't for the fact that it had gripped onto her blouse. She looked down and got a look at its face and was even more confused as she did not recognize what species it was. It was a pokemon she had not seen in any of Prof. Oak's books. She may not be an expert in pokemon but she knew a thing or two thanks to a friend of hers. She placed her hand on its head to see if it had a fever or something but this little action caused it to stir. As it began to move, its tail fell out of the blanket and she saw that it had an interesting coloring, but her gaze went back to its face as noticed it gazing up at her. The eyes were a brilliant violet color and they seemed to have a sense of curiosity to them. It began to coo at her and her mind immediately knew that based on the noises it was making labeled it as a baby. Her motherly instincts kicked in and she began to gently rock it back and forth. She sat onto the couch and could not help but smile at the unknown baby pokemon. Her smile grew when he brought up his green tail and began to suckle on the tip. She thought about what she should do now as she was not a breeder or pokemon caretaker so she might not be qualified for this.

As she was in the middle of this thought she noticed something happening about it. Its movements were slowing and it seemed to be falling asleep. But since she had her hand touching a part of its body directly, she could feel that it was getting cold...Deathly cold. She placed her hand on its chest as if to feel for a heartbeat and could feel that it was slowing down. She began to panic as she bolted to her feet and ran to the phone. She would have called the professor for help but her mind was still in turmoil from all that happened to her recently, so she ended up calling her friend, despite the late hour.

{*Yawn* Hello, who is it?}

"It's me!"

{Delia? What's wrong?}

"I'm sorry for calling this late but I have a baby pokemon with me and something is wrong with it! It started to feel cold to the touch and its heart rate is dropping! I need your help!"

There was a pause on the other line for a few seconds but to Delia, it felt like hours.

{Delia, the storm is too strong for me to make my way to you. When the storm dies down I will be right over but for now, I need you to follow everything I say. Do you understand?}

"Yes, of course!"

{Good, now listen…..}

Delia followed her friend's instructions to the letter in order to make sure that the pokemon in her arms would not die on her.

She had already lost so much she would not lose this pokemon.

Hours passed and Delia was able to keep the pokemon alive and had him set on her bed as she kneeled next to it and watched over it. However, due to how physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted she was, she had fallen asleep with her head on the bed next to the now resting pokemon, praying once more for a miracle to happen.

As she slept, a Joltik flashed into the room before it moved up the side of the bed and over to the sleeping pokemon. It stared at it for a few seconds before it was enveloped in blue light. Once the light died down, it revealed Mew floating above the baby with a look of concern. She could feel that it was dying and would not last the night.

She had followed the scientists when they first arrived at one of the ancient shrines meant to be for worship to her. She had watched all of their actions as she wondered what they planned to do with a ancient bone of one of her...children. It was to her surprise that they had made a clone using the bone and were making alterations so that it did not look like a Mew at all. She had watched over it during its creation and thought about the name it was given: Mewtwo.

In a sense, it can be considered her child. Created through unorthodox means, yes. But her child nonetheless and she did not want to see it die.

She began to think of ways to save its life before she finally realized the human that was sleeping just next to him. She may have teleported Mewtwo away from the lab but she was unsure of the destination. She merely wanted to get him out of the lab before the dark man had a chance of seeing him. Using her psychic powers, she read the woman's mind to see what had happened before she arrived. She caught a glimpse of the tragedy Delia went through and could understand that type of sadness.

It was then she gained an idea.

It was something never done before and would require the help of the other legendaries but it was theoretically possible.

If it works, it could not only save her child but also bring back one already lost. She lowered herself to the sleeping Mewtwo and ran her paw over his head.

"Everything will be alright."

Mew then teleported away to ask Xerneas and Yveltal for a favor. She may be the very first pokemon and the creator of the others, but she had given certain tasks to the first pokemon she ever created. These two, being the guardians of life and death respectively, were the only ones that would be of any help.

~next morning~

The sunlight crept through the curtains and hit Delia on the face.

The woman's eyes slowly fluttered before they shot wide open as she instantly lifted her head up and looked at the pokemon on her bed. She gave a sigh of relief as she saw that he was still breathing as she was afraid that he wouldn't last the night, but she thanked Arceus that he did.

She stayed there observing to see if anything would happen but she heard the doorbell ring, causing her to look over her shoulder toward the hall. She looked toward the window, seeing that the storm had ended and she figured that her friend had made her way here as soon as she could. She got up, ran downstairs to the door, and immediately opened it. She smiled at the sight of her friend, a Nurse Joy in her nurse attire and holding a large machine in her arms. "Thank you for coming. Come on!"

The two women ran back to Delia's room in order to try and save the pokemon.

As they came into the room, Nurse Joy paused for only a second at the sight of the pokemon as she herself did not know what pokemon this was. However, she immediately went into nurse mode and began to do an examination on it to better understand what kind of pokemon it was so that she would know how to handle this.

At first, she assumed it might have been part grass pokemon based on its coloration but after further examination and features, she came to the conclusion that it was a psychic type. This helped out in saving it but it would still take some work before they can relax. Once she finished a physical examination, she was sure of its type and that it was an infant. She moved the machine she brought over to the bedside, opened it up, and began placing nodes on its chest and the side of its head.

The machine she had was a portable pokemon healer; much like the ones that Pokemon centers had but this was for Nurses who go out in the field for whatever reason. The issue was that it was not as efficient due to its size and limits.

Delia walked back and forth, worrying about the pokemon that was now under the Nurse's care. For an hour, she watched as her friend did her job, and it felt like an eternity until Nurse Joy got up from what she was doing. "Well?"

Nurse Joy sighed. "I am not sure. This species of pokemon is unknown to me and his vital signs keep fluctuating as if the body is trying to stay alive but is struggling. I will be staying here to make sure that he survives."

Delia looked at the pokemon before asking. "Why don't we take him to a pokemon center?"

Nurse Joy shook her head. "It is too great a risk if we move him. We don't know if moving it too much would cause its condition to become worse. Not only that, the closest Center is in Viridian city and Prof. Oak does not have the facilities to heal pokemon."

Delia sighed in defeat as she leaned on the wall. "He is only a baby. Why does he have to die so soon." She covered her mouth to muffle the sob that leaked out.

Nurse Joy knew that statement was more than just for the pokemon. She knew what Delia went through and it hurt her heart to see a dear friend in such a state. She moved closer and hugged Delia as the woman began to sob.

Not just for the pokemon.

~Later that night~

Nurse Joy sat in a chair watching the readings her machine gave off.

Delia had fallen asleep only an hour ago as it was three in the morning.

Delia was not used to late hours but Nurse Joy was. Being a nurse for pokemon, she would occasionally get the latecomer with the need for a room or to heal up their pokemon.

Sitting next to her was her Audino since her Chansey was left at her Pokemon center to handle things there while she was on this trip. She was actually here to be with Delia during the birth of her son and it broke her heart that he did not make it. She had stayed with Delia during her time in tears until the woman had told her that she would get through this. She didn't believe that Delia would just get through this as she thought about losing her own daughter.

The thought alone unimaginably painful.

It was a surprised when she got the call from Delia talking about a dying pokemon, but she did not question the urgency that was clear in the woman's voice. As she was thinking about this, Audino shook her arm to bring her back to the present. Looking at her pokemon, she saw Audino pointing at her patient. She turned her head and her eyes widened as she saw another pokemon was now in the room.

This pokemon she knew. No one that deals in pokemon extensively didn't know this pokemon as records and ancient carvings of it were known to them. And she could not believe she was seeing it. "Mew…"

Mew was floating just above Mewtwo and could see that her favor had kept it alive but it would still die unless she did what she came here to do. She lowered herself and ran her paw over one of his cheeks which caused Mewtwo to open his eyes tiredly.

Mewtwo saw Mew floating there and rubbing his cheek, bringing a small smile to his face. Mewtwo brought up his arms as if reaching for her.

Mew saw what Mewtwo was trying to do and smiled as she slowly moved into his arm, showing that they were about the same size, and both of them hugged each other as Mew nuzzled his head.

Mewtwo cooed as he hugged Mew before his energy drained from him and he lost consciousness again.

Mew floated out of his arms, gnetly groomed the top of his head, befre looking up toward the ceiling as she felt Xerneas' power. Her eyes began to glow blue before she looked at Mewtwo and, with Xerneas breathing life energy through the body, she began her task.

Nurse Joy watched as the legendary Mirage pokemon began to do something she could not understand. She saw Mew shift its glowing eyes from the ceiling to the one it groomed before the infant pokemon began to glow and float off the bed

The light from the glow woke Delia up and her eyes shot open and saw what was happening. "What's going on?"

Nurse Joy shook her head as she did not know either.

Both women and nurse pokemon watched as they saw the patient glow brightly to the point that they had to cover their eyes. They tried to see what was going on but the light was too blinding. As the light died down, they finally got a look at what happened and the sight caused the two women to gasp in shock.

Mew finished what she had come to do And smiled in happiness that it worked. She transformed into a Pidgey, landed on the bed, looked at the two women, and used her psychic powers to erase the memory of her being here. She looked to the Audino and spoke. "Please keep my presence a secret."

Audino was brought out of her shock and nodded her head before she gave a small bow. "Yes, Lady Mew."

Mew then flew out of the window and circled around the house before she landed on the roof. She would stay with Mewtwo and watch over him as he grew up. Not only to make sure that he would be ok but also due to the fact that what she had just done has a few drawbacks.

Delia and Nurse Joy blinked a few times before shaking their heads in confusion. Their confusion grew as they saw that now instead of the unknown pokemon they were trying to save, there now lay a naked baby boy.

But it was his appearance that was really getting their attention.

Delia slowly moved closer and brought up a trembling hand to touch the baby laying there. She knew his features as they were what she saw only a few days ago. A small bit of black hair and Z-like marks on his cheeks. She placed her hand on his cheeks as she whimpered out. "Ash…?"

End chapter

Sorry about the dark start but it was the only opening I could think of. I don't plan on making this a dark fic though there may be some dark elements here and there, but I don't plan on being too heavy on it. Though even I am not sure how this fic will go.

I got the inspiration for this fic from a few others such as Child of Mew and Dragonfall so there may be some of their aspects appearing in this fic but I want to make this my own thing

not sure how many generations I will go into in this fic

For pairings…..I don't know. I haven't planned it out yet. Got a suggestion then leave it in a review. I might do a pairing or might not.

Also, I won't be doing the time skip thing from other fics where you get the backstory and then later on they transform. I want to do the journey before we get to it. Just so you don't question how the story goes

I'm trying to think of a cover art to draw but it may take a while until I make one

Fic title is up to change if I can think of a better name

AUTHOR'S NOTE 6/21/2022: Pairings will be put on the back burner for a good amount of the fic as I will be focusing on building up general relations between the characters. I will still accept suggestions for it but it will be for later in the story, so the questions about it from her to chapter 13 (which is when I made this decision) can be ignored.

Flames will be ignored.

Criticism is accepted

Ideas are taken into account and considered

Positive reviews are appreciated
