Jeremy's Child Chapter Seven

When Jeremy walked into the cabin, he heard Jason crying. He was alarmed because the oldest brother rarely cried.

Jeremy hurried to Jason's bedroom. The door was closed. The youngest Bolt heard the other two talking.

"Jeremy has lost his mind, Josh! He is gone! Our sweet brother is gone!" Jason choked out the words.

"No, Jason, Jeremy hasn't lost his mind. He's grieving, remember? Grief makes people say terrible things sometimes. I suppose it can make people do unthinkable things too. Jeremy will get better. You will see." Joshua spoke in a comforting tone.

"He was a horse's ass, Josh! To Candy! Candy, his fiancée! Jeremy has never been like that in his life. Not even to the kids who laughed at him for stuttering when he was a child." Jason broke down sobbing again. "Josh, you and I know what memory Candy was seeing in that mirror by her reaction. It was the same reaction she had the night it happened."

"I know, Jason, that night last winter when Jeremy almost died from influenza. Doctor Wright told us he wasn't going to survive, and Candy went to pieces." Joshua replied. "If Jeremy had died, we would have lost her too."

A terrible feeling of shame and disgust washed over Jeremy. Jason was right. His behavior toward his fiancée, the woman he loved had been appalling. He had been a horse's ass to Candy.

His words, "I want Candy to hang." Echoed in his mind. Maybe he was crazy.

Suddenly, Jeremy felt sick. He ran to the washroom where he retched violently. Tears stung his eyes. After the retching was over, Jeremy washed his face. He glanced at himself in the mirror remembering how Candy begged him to let her stop looking

Jeremy cringed remembering all he had said and done. On top of it all, he made his oldest brother cry. He caused Jason to doubt his sanity.

His words, "I want Candy to hang." Ran through his head again. It was hard to believe he had said that.

"I have got to fix this!" Jeremy spoke aloud.

He grabbed his jacket and ran out the door. He rushed to the jail.

Jeremy was shocked when he walked through the door. Aaron was in the floor bloody and beaten. Jeremy ran to him.

"Aaron, who did this to you? I have only been gone about half an hour." Jeremy helped him up.

"You have to go get Miss Pruitt, Jeremy." Aaron said in a raspy voice.

Jeremy looked toward the jail cell. It was empty.

"Where is Candy, Aaron?" He was scared.

"She is at the clinic. I am required now to have the doctor examine each new prisoner. I'm not worried about Doctor Wright. Doctor Phillip Dale is working temporarily with Allyn. He is Arnold and Lucy Dale's nephew. That guy is strange." Aaron coughed.

Jeremy got Stempel a cup of cold water. He drank all of it.

"As I was saying that guy is weird. Candy was upset of course. She told Doctor Wright that she's a witch. That Dale fellow went berserk! He carried Candy out of here saying he was going to do medical experiments on her. Stuff that he couldn't do on real people. Allyn tried to talk him out of it. He wouldn't listen. When I tried to stop him, he beat me up." Aaron explained.

Jeremy was furious. "Aaron, can you take care of yourself? I gotta go rescue Candy."

"Sure, Jeremy, I'll be okay. Be careful." Aaron responded.

"I will, Aaron." Jeremy ran out the door.

Jeremy was glad to find the clinic door unlocked. He slipped inside quietly. He hurried down the hall looking in each room for Candy as he went.

She was in the fourth room on the right. Jeremy sat down carefully on the side of the bed.

"Candy, it's me, Jeremy." He whispered as he touched her shoulder. "I'm so sorry, Candy! I was wrong to have you arrested and to treat you the way I did. It's my fault that you are here now. Please forgive me, Candy. I was blinded by my anger and my grief over losing my sons. That's no excuse, I know. I love you, Candy! If you will take me back, I'll spend the rest of my life making you happy. I promise on my parents' graves. Please Candy!" Jeremy begged.

Candy opened her eyes and looked at him. "I forgive you, Jeremy. I still love you. Please get me out of here before Doctor Dale comes back. He's crazy. He gave me some strange liquid to drink. It has weakened me."

"I'll get you out of here, Candy. Where is Doctor Wright? We can't just leave her here with him." Jeremy replied.

"He made Doctor Wright go home. He said he would kill me if she didn't leave. He also threatened to kill me if she came back with some help." Candy responded hoarsely.

"Okay, Doctor Wright will be safe at home. There will be other people here with her at the clinic tomorrow." Jeremy told her.

"I can't stay here in Seattle, Jeremy. I have to go to my coven in New Bedford." Candy reached to put her arms around his neck.

"Oh, Candy! Please don't leave me. I will keep my promise, honestly, I will. I won't ever be a horse's ass again." He drew her close to him.

"You won't be a what?" Her voice was muffled by his chest.

"A horse's backside. Jason used another word when he called me that." Jeremy told her.

Candy laughed softly. "Jason called you a horse's tail! I need to go to New Bedford for a few days. I'm not leaving you, sweetheart."

"Thank you, Candy! We have to go now, come on." Jeremy picked up Candy and headed out of the room and down the hall.

When they got outside, Candy told Jeremy to take her to the dormitory. He got her there quickly. The red head had a short private conversation with Biddie while Jeremy waited on the porch.

The ladies came out of the dwelling ready to travel. Candy asked Jeremy to go with them and he agreed.

Since Miss Pruitt's strength had been diminished by the suspicious medication Doctor Dale had given her, Biddie performed the incantation to transport the three of them to Massachusetts.

Soon they were at Candy's grandmother's house where the coven was located. Candy and Biddie said hello to several of the ladies there. Jeremy was introduced as Candy's fiancé.

Some of the women were preparing an early breakfast. They invited Young Bolt to eat with them while Candy and Biddie took care of a few things.

Jeremy thanked the ladies for their invitation. "Sweetheart, are you up to dealing with stuff now? Maybe you should wait until later after you have had some real sleep that wasn't drug induced."

"I appreciate your concern, Jeremy, however, I can do this, and I want to get it finished and off of my mind. It won't take long. The breakfast looks delicious. Fix a plate for me, please." She gave him a kiss on his cheek.

"Okay, sweet girl, if you're sure. Please don't over do it. I'll be waiting for you to come back for breakfast." He gazed into her eyes with concern.

"I'm sure. I won't be long." She caressed his cheek.

Jeremy watched her and Biddie leave the room. He sat down to eat.

About a half hour later, the two best friends returned. They sat down on either side of Jeremy to eat the plates of food that he had fixed for them. Biddie seemed hungry. Candy picked at her food.

"Do you want something different to eat, sweetheart? I will be happy to get it for you." Jeremy spoke quietly.

"No, thank you, darling. I'm just not hungry, I guess." She replied.

"Okay, maybe you will be hungry at lunchtime." Young Bolt said.

"Yes, I'll be hungry then." Candy agreed as she glanced at Biddie.

"Oh, yes, Candy. I'm ready. Thank you for fixing this plate of food for me. It was very good."

"You're welcome, Biddie. Now, will you two please tell me what's wrong?" Jeremy asked.

"Yes, we are going to explain everything, Jeremy. We are going to tell you the real truth too." Candy was nervous.

"Candy, do you mean?" asked Biddie.

"Yes, Biddie, I mean the actual heartbreaking truth." The redhaired girl replied.

"Heartbreaking?" Her fiancé echoed.

"If I don't tell him today, Biddie, I might be forced to tell him in two weeks due to my condition so I might as well tell the truth now. Besides, Jeremy hates lying and I don't want to cause him more pain." Candy explained.

He left his seat and crouched beside her chair taking her hand in his.

"What is going on, Candy? I'm scared. Please tell me." Jeremy whispered.

Tears ran down her face. "Let's go upstairs where the three of us can speak privately." Candy told him.

Jeremy helped her from the chair. The young couple and Biddie went to a bedroom upstairs.

Biddie closed the door. "Please sit down, Jeremy. Let me get you a cup of cold water. I will get us one too, Candy."

Jeremy sat down in a chair by the bed. Candy sat on the bed close to Jeremy's chair. Biddie returned from the washroom with the cups of water. Each of them drank their water. They set the cups on the bedside table.

Jeremy was biting his lip. He was pale. "You are scaring me to death. Please talk to me, Candy."

"Jeremy, I'm dying. I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I know we have planned for a lifetime together. But it's just not going to happen." Candy choked out the words.

Jeremy stared at her in disbelief. His eyes were wide with terror. His breathing became labored. He closed his eyes as he tried to focus on taking several deep breaths. In a short time, his breathing was normal again.

"Why are you dying, C-C-Candy?" Jeremy asked.

"There is a problem with my heart. It is getting weaker and I don't know how long I have to live." Candy said gently.

"Doctor Wright can do something, can't she? She is very intelligent plus she knows a lot of other doctors." Jeremy spoke hoarsely.

"No, sweetheart, I'm afraid, Doctor Wright can't help. This is not an ordinary heart problem." Replied Candy.

"Oh, it's a witch problem. That's why you had to come back to New Bedford, isn't it?" Jeremy coughed.

"Yes, that's right." Candy bit her lip.

Biddie stared at her red headed friend.

"Oh, Biddie! I can't! It will break his heart even more!" Miss Pruitt exclaimed.

"The thought of causing him more pain hurts me too, Candy. But you know you have got to do it, so you might as well do it now." Biddie spoke softly.

"Everything, Biddie?" She questioned.

"Everything, Candy." Miss Cloom replied.

Jeremy was perplexed by the ladies' conversation. "You can tell me anything, Candy. Please don't try to spare my feelings. I want to know what you are dealing with. I want to help you, sweetheart."

Candy looked into his beautiful piercing blue eyes. They sparkled with love and kindness once again.

"Biddie, change seats with Jeremy, please." Candy requested.

Her friend and her fiancé swapped seats. Jeremy put his arms around Candy.

"Tell me, please." He spoke softly.

Candy sighed deeply. "Jeremy, my heart has been poisoned. There is a tea that will help. However, there is no cure. At some point, the tea won't help."

"Poisoned?! Who poisoned you, Candy? I'll kill him!" Jeremy shouted.

"Try not to be angry, sweetheart. I know it's difficult, but try to be calm, alright?" Candy held his face in her hands.

"Alright, Candy. I'm sorry if I frightened you. Who did this to you? How did it happen?"

"You did it, Jeremy. You poisoned me." Candy sobbed.

"Me?! I wouldn't poison you. I didn't poison you, Candy. How can you say that?" Jeremy was shocked.

"You didn't do it on purpose, Jeremy. You didn't realize that you were doing it." Candy replied.

"Did I give you something to eat or to drink that had poison in it?" He questioned.

"No, that's not how it occurred. In the jail when you told Aaron that you wanted me to hang that's when it happened. When you spoke those words, you put me under the evil witches curse. It was the same as feeding me poison. I'm sorry, Jeremy! I'm sorry!" Candy spoke raggedly.

Jeremy clutched his chest as a knife sliced his heart into pieces. He was vaguely aware of his fiancée telling him to breathe.

Now he was lying on the bed, and Candy was wiping his face with a cold cloth. He took her hand as he gazed into her eyes.

"C-C-Candy, I… "His voice was barely audible.

"It's alright, sweetheart, it's alright. You didn't know. You couldn't know. You love me. You would never hurt me on purpose." Candy said gently.

"I brought this on you, Candy. You and my brothers tried to make me stop. I didn't listen! I've killed you, Candy! Oh, God! I've killed you!" Jeremy wept bitterly.

Candy laid down beside him placing her head on his chest. She whispered soft words of comfort to him until he had cried himself to sleep.

Biddie placed a blanket over her two friends. She left the room.

The betrothed couple slept for several hours. Jeremy awoke while Candy was still sleeping. He hugged her gently as he ran his fingers through her hair. As he lay there thinking about what she had told him, he began watching her breathe. A choking sob escaped his lips.

Candy woke up and turned her head to look at him. "Jeremy, please don't blame yourself. It was an accident. You had no way of knowing what would happen."

"But it's my fault, Candy! You're dying because of my anger and my stupidity!" Jeremy lamented.

Both of them sat up in the bed. "Listen, sweetheart, I forgive you. I'm not angry at you and I don't blame you. Please forgive yourself. If not for your sake, then do it for me, alright?" She asked.

"I'm grateful that you have forgiven me, Candy. But, I can't forgive myself. What I have done is too awful. You're going to die because of me." He groaned.

Candy gazed sadly at him. "Hopefully after some time passes, you can realize that you are not to blame for my illness."

"Maybe, I'm not sure." Jeremy sighed. "May I ask you something, sweet girl?"

"Yes, what do you want to know?" Candy replied.

"Are you pregnant? When I woke up, I couldn't help but notice that you have a little belly." Answered Jeremy.

Candy leaned into him kissing his lips tenderly. She brushed his bangs away from his eyes.

Speaking softly, she said, "Yes, Jeremy, I am pregnant with our child, yours and mine. The baby is not any type of witch baby."

"Oh, God! Is the baby poisoned too?" Jeremy worried.

"No, Jeremy, the baby is not poisoned. Our child is fine." Candy assured him.

"Thank The Good Lord for that! Candy, we are having a baby! While it's not a new experience for us, this is our first baby together." Jeremy got up from the bed.

He held his hand out to her. Candy got out of the bed. She sat down in the chair that was close by.

Jeremy got down on one knee. "Candy, I love you with all of my heart. I love you more than life itself. I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me, please, Candy?"

"Oh, Jeremy! Yes! I will marry you! I love you with all of my heart and my soul. I will be proud to be your wife." Candy smiled happily.

The expectant parents shared a passionate kiss.

Biddie was excited when Candy and Jeremy told her about the baby and the proposal. A few days later, the three of them returned to Seattle.

Jeremy wanted to wait until he made amends with his brothers before he and Candy shared their happy news. She agreed and said that she needed to explain one more thing to him.

In the back room at Lottie's, Candy told her future husband about the tea she has to drink to treat her heart.

"It is Feverfew Tea with honey and snake venom." She explained.

"How can you drink snake venom? That's dangerous, isn't it, sweetheart?" Inquired Jeremy.

"No, the tea prevents the venom from being deadly. Once I drink the tea, the snake venom draws out some the poison you put in my heart." Candy responded crisply.

Jeremy raised an eyebrow. "You said you forgave me. If you are angry at me, you can tell me."

"I have forgiven you, darling. What makes you think I'm angry?" She smiled.

"Your reference to the poison I put in your heart and your tone of voice." He answered.

"Those are just little side effects from the tea. They don't mean anything." Candy spoke.

"If you say so." He took her arm as she got up from the chair.

They walked from the saloon to the dormitory. They shared a brief kiss and goodnight on the porch.

When Jeremy walked inside the Bolt cabin, Jason and Joshua were playing chess,

The youngest brother slumped in Dad's armchair.

"Hey, Jeremy! Where ya been?" Joshua asked.

"New Bedford." He replied.

Jason stopped contemplating his next move to look at his brother.

"New Bedford? Why did you go there, Jeremy?" Jason inquired.

Jeremy sighed. "That night that I had Candy arrested, I went back to the jail."

Young Bolt brought his brothers up to date on everything that had happened between him and Candy. He was in tears when he finished talking.

"Candy said she forgave you, Jeremy. She is outspoken, So if she says she has forgiven you, then that's what she has done." Jason advise.

"Yeah, Jeremy, Jason is right. You can take Candy at her word." Joshua spoke.

"I don't doubt her word. But her attitude didn't match her word." Jeremy frowned. "I don't blame her if she hates me for poisoning her. I just want her to tell me the truth."

Candy and Jeremy were married two weeks later by Captain Clancy aboard his ship. It was a lovely ceremony attended by their family and closest friends. The couple moved into the old Bolt family cabin.

Time passed by. Soon Candy was in her sixth month. The Feverfew tea with honey and snake venom had been working. Mrs. Bolt felt good and the baby was doing fine.

One evening, Jeremy came home to find Candy in the floor soaked in sweat gasping for breath.

"Oh, hell! Candy!" Jeremy picked her up and took her to the sofa.

"Make me a cup of tea, Jeremy. Put the honey and the snake venom in it. Be very careful with the snake venom. Put on your work gloves before you touch the bottle." Candy spoke weakly. "Make sure you don't have any torn places in your gloves or injuries to your hands. If that venom gets in your blood, you will be dead in fifteen minutes."

Jeremy frowned at the matter-of-fact tone in her voice.

"You don't sound as if that would bother you too much." He examined his hands and gloves closely.

"What, if you died? Of course, it would hurt me terribly, Jeremy! I would have to bury you and pay for your funeral!" She laughed.

The water was on to boil for the tea. Jeremy walked across the room to the sofa. He stared at his wife.

"What's wrong? Are you dying from the snake venom?" Candy giggled.

"No, I'm not dying. I'm wondering why the notion of my death is so humorous to you." Jeremy spoke calmly.

"Because dear husband, you terrified me so now I get to scare you to death, nearly." Candy slurred.

"Are you drunk, Candy? You have always said that you don't drink." Jeremy inquired.

"No, I'm not drunk because I don't drink. The poison is getting stronger because the tea is not as effective now. Put four drops of snake venom instead of two in the tea. Maybe that will help." She replied.

"Okay I will put four drops of venom in the tea. How are you going to scare me?" Jeremy questioned.

"The bedroom will be wall to wall mirrors. When you look into them, you will see me be hanged just like you wanted that night at the sheriff's office." She told him.

Jeremy was horrified. "Candy, listen, maybe we were wrong to get married. If you don't love me anymore, we can get a divorce. I will still support you and the baby. You said you forgave me for saying that I wanted you to hang. Please don't do this, Candy!"

Mrs. Bolt sat up on the couch. She laughed a hearty laugh. Her words were not slurred when she spoke.

"You're scared already, aren't you? Little Jeremy Bolt is gonna cry! Waaah! Waaah! I want my big brother! I'm afraid of my shadow! J-J-Jason!" Candy roared with laughter.

Jeremy swallowed hard and fought back tears as he hurried to get the whistling tea kettle off the stove.

He put on his work gloves and prepared the tea. After he stirred in the honey and the snake venom, he took the cup of tea to his wife.

Sitting down beside her on the sofa, Jeremy held the cup while Candy sipped the tea. She smiled brightly at him.

"Hello, sweetheart! How are you?" Candy asked.

Jeremy cocked his head. "We have been talking the last several minutes. Why are you asking how I am and saying hello?"

"Jeremy, you just got home. I asked you for another cup of tea and you brought it to me." Candy replied.

"That's not what happened, sweetheart. You were telling me that you were going to scare me nearly to death." He reminded her.

Candy gasped putting her hand to her mouth. "Oh, dear God! That means I'm getting much worse! Don't let me hurt you, darling. I'm serious. Even if you have to kill me, Jeremy, don't let me hurt you!"

Jeremy put the cup on the end table. He enfolded his anxious wife in his arms.

"Candy, I could never kill you. Please don't say such things. You won't hurt me, sweet girl. I love you and I trust you. It's alright, Candy, it's alright."

When Candy was calm, her husband told her that he found her in the floor gasping and sweating. She said that was more evidence that her condition was worsening.

After she finished the cup of tea, she went to bed. Jeremy stayed up for about an hour before retiring for the night.

He was in a cold sweat, trembling, and whimpering as he lay down next to his wife. Jeremy moaned in fear rather than pain.

Waking up, Candy rolled over to face him. "Sweetheart, what's wrong, why are you upset?"

"I went into that r-r-room. It t-t-terrified me, C-C-Candy! Watching you almost die." His body shook with sobs.

"Oh, Jeremy! Why did you go in there? I asked you not to let me hurt you. Please don't go in there anymore." Candy snuggled up to him.

He wrapped his arms around her. He hid his face against her shoulder as his sobbing continued. The red-haired girl whispered soothingly in his ear as she gently scratched his back.

"The scratching feels good." Jeremy spoke softly as his tears subsided. "Thank you."

"Darling, why did you go in that room? I was having a bad heart spell when I threatened you about that" Candy kissed his shoulder.

"I got to thinking about how I treated you getting you arrested and making you look in the mirror and I decided that I needed to punish myself for it. I'm a coward because I couldn't take it." He took a ragged breath.

"Jeremy Bolt! You are not a coward! Please don't ever say that again! You don't have to punish yourself either. I love you, Jeremy, please be kind to yourself." Candy encouraged.

"I love you too, Candy. I'll try to be nice to myself." He replied.

Jeremy gave Candy a tender goodnight kiss. He softly hummed her favorite hymn as she fell asleep in his arms.

A few days later, on Saturday, the young couple spent the day giving the old family cabin an especially good cleaning. That night after supper, Candy wanted to take down all the mirrors in the other bedroom. She had apologized to her husband several times for even thinking of tormenting him. Jeremy accepted her apologies saying he knew that her actions were caused by her illness.

They went into the mirrored bedroom together. Candy tried to get a mirror off the wall. It seemed to be stuck.

"Jeremy, I can't get this mirror to come loose. Will you get it, please?" She asked.

"Sure, sweet girl. Don't strain yourself trying to force it loose. Let me get it." He pulled on the looking glass.

Jeremy pulled as hard as he could but the mirror wouldn't move.

Suddenly a huge flash of lightning cut across the sky and a tremendous boom of thunder seemed to pound the roof of the cabin.

Before the Bolt couple could react to the storm, the mirrors in the room came to life. One wall of them revealed Candy's worst fear, Jeremy almost dying from influenza. The other wall of mirrors showed Candy being hanged which was Jeremy's worst fear.

"Candy! What's happening? Are you angry at me? Are you doing this?" Jeremy yelled.

"No, Jeremy! I'm not doing this and I'm not angry! Please help me! I can't make myself stop looking!" Shouted Mrs. Bolt.

Jeremy wanted to go across the room to help her. However, he found himself unable to stop watching the horror of his sweet girl about to be hanged.

"Let's close our eyes and then turn our bodies away from the mirrors and facing the door." He told her.

"Okay, that's a good idea." She spoke.

Both of them closed their eyes and turned to face the bedroom door.

"Alright, when I count to three, we will open our eyes, run to the door and out of this room." Jeremy explained.

"Got it." Candy said.

"Okay, one….. two … three!" He counted.

They opened their eyes. "Oh, dear God!" Candy cried.

On both sides of the door were mirrors. One for Jeremy and one for Candy.

Jeremy dropped to the floor. He began trying to belly crawl to the door without looking at the mirror.

"I've almost made it to the door, sweetheart. Everything is going to be alright." He said as he fought hard not to look at the mirror next to the door.

"Try to hurry, Jeremy! The mirrors have changed. Mine is showing me about to hang so yours is showing you dying from influenza. We can't see our own deaths, Jeremy. If we do, we will die immediately."

"Oh, hell!" Young Bolt barked as he reached the door.

He could hear talking from the mirrors. Each voice was concerned or upset. The voices were those of Candy and him and his brothers.

Jeremy stood up and turned the doorknob. The door was locked.

"Shakespeare's damn Sunbonnet! Son of a sea hag! How did the door get locked?" Jeremy yelled.

"I don't know, Jeremy. We have to get out of here soon. They are almost ready to hang me." Candy answered.

He knew she was right. He could feel whatever force was doing this pulling him back toward his mirrors.

"Try to keep your eyes closed. It's hard but keep trying." He encouraged.

Jeremy picked up a chair and slung it against the wall of mirrors. They did not break. He threw another chair against the window. It stayed intact.

"Candy, can you perform an incantation to get us out of here?" He asked.

"I'll try. Can you get over here to me, please? You standing beside me might block some of this force and prevent it from interfering too much with my spell." Candy told him.

Jeremy closed his eyes tightly as he struggled against the force. When he reached his wife, he placed his arms around her making sure that his hand was over her heart.

"Thank you, darling." She whispered.

"You're welcome, sweet girl." Jeremy spoke softly.

Candy repeated several incantations over and over. None of them worked. Then she had an idea.

"Jeremy, I'm going to do something that will sound risky; however it will work out fine. I'm going to send my essence to give a message to Jason and Joshua to rescue us. My essence can't get us out of this room." His wife explained. "My body will be here with you."

It took all of his strength not to try to look into her face. "If your body is here and your essence is somewhere else, you will be dead, won't you?" Jeremy was frightened. "What about the baby?"

"My body will still be alive. The baby will be fine. My essence is just taking a short trip away from my body." Candy replied.

"And from me. Can I still hold you while you are gone?" He wondered.

"Yes, of course, you can, sweetheart. I would love that." She gave him a little kiss on his chest.

Jeremy squeezed her a little tighter. All the concerned voices were still speaking from all the mirrors. He wished he could listen closely to Candy's voice in the mirrors while she was gone. That would be a terrible mistake because he would go from listening to his wife to watching her and then see his death in the other looking glasses.

"I'm leaving now Jeremy. Please catch my body when it slumps. I love you." Candy whispered.

"I love you, Candy." Jeremy whispered too.

The young husband caught his wife's body as it slumped against him. Tears flowed because it sure felt as if she died.

Jeremy picked up Candy's body. Somehow he made it to the bed without looking at the mirrors. He placed her body on the bed and lay down beside her. Even though he pulled the blanket over their heads, his eyes remained closed out of the utmost caution.

Jeremy placed his hand on Candy's belly. He felt the baby kick.

"Mama will be back soon. Don't be afraid, son. Don't you be scared either, Daddy." Jeremy spoke.

In Seattle, Joshua Bolt was awakened by someone whispering his name.

"Joshua! Joshua! Joshua Bolt!" The feathery voice called softly.

The blond brother got out of bed and pulled his pants on. He walked into the front room expecting to find the person calling him there. The room was empty but for him.

Hearing his name being called again, Joshua opened the front door. He was shocked to see Candy's ghost.
