Dr. STONE: 4D Science Chapter 6 - Future Steps

Kohaku reveled in the sensation of having Senku wrap his arms around her waist as he pulled her closer to deepen the kiss. It felt so natural to be in his arms again, like this is where she was always meant to be.

Just as before, she got a sense of his feelings—relief to have her home and desperation to never let her go. His kiss became so overwhelming, in fact, that he practically had her mesmerized. Despite knowing that there were others all around them, she couldn't make herself pull away, nor did she want to. It was as if every new kiss was better than the last, and she was starting to grow addicted.

When it became apparent that neither one was willing to part from the other, things became awkward for the spectators.

"Alright, I'm out of here," declared Stanley, being the first to make a beeline out of there.

"Gee, they're really going at it, huh? Doesn't look like they're stopping any time soon, either," Chelsea commented shamelessly as she, Suika and Chrome joined up with the crowd.

"I'll say... who knew Senku was capable of showing so much affection, and so publicly too?" questioned Minami in disbelief. "And to think I felt bad that Kohaku was getting into a loveless marriage."

"Loveless you say? Surely, you est-jay," refuted Gen. "Dear Senku has been sulking ever since he and Kohaku parted ways. So, his behavior is hardly a surprise."

"Well, with a gorgeous girl like that in your arms, I don't blame him." Ryusui grinned in approval.

"Aww... how adorable," Chelsea cried gleefully. "Kohaku missed Senku too. I'm so happy for them!"

"I'm happy too... but I feel like we shouldn't be watching this," said Suika bashfully, covering her eyes with her hand.

"I agree. Shouldn't the rest of us follow Stanley's lead and give them some privacy?" suggested Nikki, turning her back to the reunited couple. "I mean, this is their reunion after a whole week apart."

"Are you kidding? I already missed out on the proposal. There's no way I'm missing out on their reunion too. Plus, this is the perfect occasion for a photo opp. Good thing I brought my camera," Minami rejoiced as she started snapping photos like crazy.

Pretty soon, Chrome couldn't keep his mouth shut any longer. "Alright, we get it... you missed each other. Would you get a room already?!" he shouted indignantly.

At last, Senku broke the kiss. "Not a bad idea, Chrome. Lioness, come with me," he demanded, taking her by the hand and leading her away, leaving everyone in a stunned silence.

Kohaku, among others, blushed an intense shade of red, knowing full well the implications of the expression 'get a room'.

"Wow! That sure escalated quickly." Chelsea was the first to break the ice.

"Well, what do you know?!" said Gen with a sly smirk. "And here I thought intimacy would be their greatest obstacle. But it seems even the ever-logical Senku is a slave to his baser urges."

"Ha-ha! Attaboy Senku!" cheered Ryusui. "Go show your lady a good time and just leave everything else to me! Back to work everybody! We've got less than twenty-four hours to put together the best wedding the Stone World's ever seen!"

Senku had long since stopped paying attention to anything the others had to say and was laser focused on reaching his destination. Meanwhile, Kohaku was so mortified, her head was practically steaming from sheer embarrassment. She couldn't get out of the public eye fast enough.

When she finally came to her senses, she realized that they were quickly approaching Senku's house. Without a hint of hesitation, he pulled her inside and slammed the door behind them, unbeknownst that they had been spotted from a distance.

The next thing Kohaku knew, she was being pushed up against the door. Her eyes widened in surprise and she couldn't even get a word out before Senku recaptured her lips in another passionate kiss. However, the intent behind this kiss was hungry for something more.

She got caught up in the heat of the moment and completely lost her train of thought, wrapping her arms around his neck. They continued like this for a while and Senku even introduced his tongue into the equation, which earned a few gentle moans from Kohaku. He took that as encouragement to escalate things, but when she felt his hand caress her thigh, she came too and got ahold of herself.

"S-Senku?" she managed to say between kisses.

"Yeah?" He answered, focusing his attention on her neck, giving her an opportunity to speak.

"Aaah... don't you think... this is too fast?"

Senku stopped tending to her neck to look her in the eyes.

"You want me to slow down? I can do that," he said with a deviously lustful look in his eye before he leaned into her once more and slowly ran his tongue along the crook of her neck.

"Nngh..." Kohaku did her best to stifle another moan, but at the same time, that action left her weak in the knees. She had to brace herself against the door to keep from losing her balance.

Just when Senku was feeling satisfied with himself and was about to proceed, there was a knock at the door that practically made Kohaku jump out of her skin. He found the sound to be the most infuriating thing to ever provoke his ire.

"Don't answer that," he grumbled in a low voice.

"But..."

"If we wait long enough, they'll eventually leave," he claimed, hoping that's exactly what would happen. But, of course, he could never be so fortunate.

"I can hear you," called a voice from the other side of the door. "And I won't be going anywhere. So, it would be wise of you to open this door immediately, Senku."

"It's Ruri!"

Senku sighed in resignation. "Damn. I need to sound proof this place as soon as possible," he murmured to himself before begrudgingly opening the door.

"Hey, Ruri. What brings you here?"

"Yeah. What do you want?" Senku asked harshly, looking visibly ticked off.

"My apologies for cutting your reunion short, but Kohaku, now that you've returned, it's time for your dress fitting."

"Tch, is that all?" Senku scoffed in annoyance at being interrupted for something so trivial that could've easily waited.

"I'm afraid not. There's still plenty more to do before your wedding tomorrow."

Senku scowled in contempt. Yet another reason for him to resent Ryusui's ridiculous, circus of a wedding. He couldn't wait for this all to be over with.

"I can't imagine why you would be so irritable, Senku. This is a joyous occasion. You should be happy," Ruri pointed out. "After all, I'm certain someone as rational as yourself wouldn't dare to rob my sister of her virtue on the eve of her wedding. Isn't that right?" she asked with a sickeningly sweet smile.

Kohaku and Senku both instantly tensed up, albeit for two very different reasons.

"Fine... you win. Take her," he relented, fearing what Ruri might do to him if he tried to challenge her. After all, what was one more day in the grand scheme of things?

"A wise decision. Come along, Kohaku," Ruri grabbed her sister by the wrist and led her away to Yuzuriha's fashion studio.

Kohaku gave Senku an apologetic glance over her shoulder before remembering something. "Oh, Senku! I also brought back some ginseng for your father! It's in my backpack. Would you see that he gets it?"

"Sure," he answered back with a simple wave, before shutting the door. And so, once again, Senku was left all alone. But rather than wallow, he opted to finish up his latest project. He entered his home-based lab and found the mess of gunpowder still waiting for him.

"Did you not mean to copulate with your mate?" Asked Why-man out of the blue. "My sensors indicate that presently, your intended retreats in the company of the female with similar biogenetic markers."

"Yeah, I got cock-blocked by her sister," he replied bitterly. "But never mind that. I need to finish these up before tomorrow."

Shortly after cleaning up the spilled gunpowder, there was another knock at the door.

"Beat it! I'm not in the mood for any more company."

"Now, is that any way to treat a decrepit old man? I could die tomorrow, ya know," called Byakuya from the other side of the door.

Realizing who it was, Senku's mood lightened a bit as he went to let his father in. Upon opening the door, he found Byakuya with a cheeky grin on his face.

"Am I interrupting anything?" he asked with an expectant tone.

"If you were, do you think I'd be letting you in?"

"Good point," he admitted. "So, where's my daughter-in-law? I heard she's finally back."

"Not here," he answered bitterly.

"What? But you haven't seen each other in days. I thought for sure you two would be inseparable once you were reunited."

"Yeah, well think again. I barely got five minutes alone with her before Ruri came and carted her away for some more wedding-related bullshit."

Byakuya grimaced at Senku's harsh words. His son's sour mood made it apparent that something must've happened in the short time since Kohaku's return. Which begged the question, had Senku made his decision? He was almost too afraid to ask.

"Well... did you at least talk things over with Kohaku about you know what?"

"Oh that?" he said, knowing full well what his father was alluding to. "Turns out I don't need an answer anymore."

Byakuya wasn't sure he liked the sound of that. Were his biggest fears about to be confirmed?

"Senku..." he grabbed him by the shoulders with a look of urgency. "...don't tell me you're calling the whole thing off. You've got to reconsider. If you let this chance slip away, I guarantee you'll end up alone and miserable," he warned, already assuming the worst.

"Hey, don't jump to conclusions, geezer. I'm not calling off anything," he assured, prying himself free from his father's vice-like grip.

"In fact, this time apart has only made me realize how invaluable Kohaku is to me. I don't ever want to know what it's like to not have her at my side, so there's no way in hell I'm letting her slip away."

"Oh, what a relief," he visibly relaxed. "But then... why are you so on edge?"

"Because this damn, over the top wedding has me up a wall. All I care about is cementing my relationship with Kohaku. To hell with everything else!"

"Son, if that's how you feel, why didn't you say anything sooner? It's not like you to keep your opinions to yourself and suffer in silence."

"Because I'm taking your advice," he answered plainly. "I can't make unilateral decisions anymore. I have to consider Kohaku's feelings as well. And I know for a fact that if I don't keep my mouth shut, she'd just go along with whatever I want. She's too selfless to ask for everything she deserves. So, I'll let the others go all out for her sake. Meanwhile, I'll do my part to see this through, ten billion percent, regardless of how tedious it may be."

It warmed Byakuya's heart to hear his son say those words. He had to give him credit for the effort he was putting into making his future wife happy.

"I see," he smiled in contentment. "You're really serious about her, aren't you, Senku? I take it that means you're open to having kids with her?"

"To be honest with you, parenthood still scares the crap out of me and isn't something that excites me one millimeter, but... as long as I have Kohaku beside me, there isn't a doubt in my mind that I can survive a kid or two," he proclaimed with a slight smirk.

"I'm glad to hear it, son. But don't forget about what Kohaku wants. For all you know, she could want as many as five kids. Maybe more."

Senku's smirk was quickly replaced with a scowl. "Don't even joke about something like that, old man. Knowing my luck, I'll agree to one and end up with quintuplets."

"Bah, hah, hah! That's right! You always did have the worst luck when it came to chance, didn't you, Senku? Phew," Byakuya tried to control his laughter. "So, when can I expect these one or two grandkids? Not too long from now, I hope. I'd like to be a grandfather before I die."

"Tch, heh, heh. Grandfather? You've progressed far beyond that. You've got a whole line of descendants extending about a hundred fifty generations," Senku teased with a chuckle.

"Oh, c'mon! You know what I mean."

"Well... it might be something to consider five years down the road, give or take. But that's a discussion for me and the lioness."

"Five years!? Who knows if I'll even last one year, let alone five? It's a miracle that the snotty, little brat I raised is even considering having kids, and I'd like to meet them before I die. Can't it be any sooner?"

"Can it with all the death talk, will ya? You're not dying anytime soon!" Senku frowned indignantly at his father's lax attitude toward his own demise. "Here, catch," he said, pulling something from his pocket and tossing it at his father.

Byakuya caught the object and examined it closely. "A crystal?"

"That's not just any crystal. In your hand you're holding a genuine diamond."

"Say what?" Byakuya's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "This is a diamond? It's huge! This must be worth a fortune. Why are you giving it to me?"

"Because that's the raw material for some brand new batteries for Why-man—courtesy of Kohaku. And we're gonna use those batteries to prolong your lifespan for as long as possible. So, make yourself comfortable, old man. You're not going anywhere."

Byakuya was incredibly moved and at a loss for words. It took a moment for him to compose himself.

"You say Kohaku found this? And it's for me? Is that what she was off doing for the past week? What an incredibly thoughtful young lady. So, this must be what it feels like when a child shows you their love," he said on the verge of tears.

"Very funny, geezer. Oh, and before I forget, she brought you back some ginseng, too. Using that to brew some tea will do you a world of good. I'd bet anything Chelsea recommended it."

"More gifts?! I know I said this before, but you really chose well when you picked her to be your wife. And just think... now that I've got a new lease on life, we can spend more time getting to know each other. We'll be one, big, happy family..." he declared with a cheesy grin as he slung his arm over Senku's shoulders. "...just you, me, and Kohaku!"

Then, it suddenly dawned on Senku that he'd get less alone time with Kohaku if his father was hovering over them. So, if he didn't want to compete with his father for his new wife's time and attention, he needed a way to keep Byakuya busy. Senku's mind quickly got to work devising a plan. But in order to pull it off, he would need to delegate the completion of his current project to Chrome and Suika. So, he gathered his materials, along with Why-man, and headed back to the lab. Next, he would need to pay a visit to Kaseki. There was suddenly so much to do, and very little time to do it in.

...

Elsewhere, across town at Yuzuriha's fashion studio, Kohaku was in the middle of her fitting. Yuzuriha had designed a beautiful, floor length, backless gown with a deep V neckline and tiered skirt. The dress fit her like a glove, hugging her curves nicely. Senku's measurements had been spot-on.

But Kohaku wasn't the least bit preoccupied with what she was wearing. She was still feeling overwhelmed by what might've happened if Ruri hadn't shown up when she did. Not that she hadn't enjoyed it—quite the opposite. She just couldn't get over how easily Senku made her melt—nor how amorous he had been. It was a side of him she'd never witnessed before, and quite frankly, she found it incredibly thrilling.

"Oh Kohaku, you look so beautiful! Yuzuriha, you've truly outdone yourself," Ruri gushed, drawing Kohaku's attention to the situation at hand.

"Thanks, but I can't take all the credit. Kohaku makes for a stunning bride."

"I couldn't agree more! And when I'm through with her, she'll be so drop dead gorgeous that not even Senku will be able to resist her feminine charm," boasted Amaryllis, who had come all the way from Treasure Island to style Kohaku's hair and makeup for the wedding.

"Oh, I don't believe Kohaku needs any help in that department," Ruri teased with a giggle.

"Can't argue with you there," stated Yuzuriha. "She did manage to get a proposal out of him, and I thought I'd never see the day when that would happen."

"True enough. However, I'm referring to Senku's inability to keep his hands off her."

"WHAT?!" Yuzuriha and Amaryllis were both absolutely dumbstruck.

"RURI?!" Kohaku protested, blushing furiously. She couldn't believe her sister's blatant audacity.

"Surely, you weren't expecting me to keep this to myself, Kohaku. Now, why don't you explain what you and Senku were up to when I went to go fetch you?"

"There's nothing to explain because nothing happened!" she adamantly denied.

"Oh, no you don't. You wouldn't be so flustered over 'nothing'. You two were up to something naughty weren't you?" Amaryllis was on the edge of her seat. "You gotta tell us all the dirty details."

"AMARYLLIS!" Yuzuriha chastised.

"What? We're all adults here. And you can't honestly say you're not curious."

"Of course I am," she admitted. "But even so, that kind of thing is private. Maybe she doesn't feel comfortable talking about it."

"Fiiine." Amaryllis conceded, crossing her arms and pouting dejectedly. "Is he at least a good kisser?" she pressed, hoping Kohaku would at least throw her a bone.

"He is," she confessed, her face still noticeably flushed. "Maybe even too good," she murmured under her breath.

"And to be completely honest, we really didn't do much," she reiterated.

"But you wanted to do more, didn't you? Don't think I didn't notice you being all fidgety from the moment you got here. You were all hot and bothered, weren't you?" Amaryllis accused, putting her on the spot.

Meanwhile, Yuzuriha could only press her palm to her forehead and shake her head in disapproval.

Kohaku was stunned. He hadn't realized she had been so obvious, but now that she'd been found out, there was little point in denying it. Better to discuss all the thoughts flooding her mind while she had the chance.

"Does that make me a horrible person? I don't want to sound like some kind of immoral pervert, but the way he kissed me was so... and then he did this thing to my neck was just... Ugh! I can't stop thinking about it. If Ruri hadn't shown up when she did... we probably would've..." Kohaku couldn't even manage to form a complete sentence.

"Made love?" Ruri offered to fill in the blanks.

Kohaku buried her face in her hands and gave curt a nod in response.

"HUH?!" Amaryllis was left speechless. That was far more than she had suspected.

"Oh Kohaku, there's no need to feel ashamed. What you're feeling is perfectly natural," Ruri reassured, placing a consoling hand on her shoulder.

"Really?" she asked, uncovering her face to look her sister in the eyes.

"Yeah. I mean it sounds like Senku's the one who initiated all of this to begin with. If anyone's a pervert here, it's him," Amaryllis inserted. "I mean you're not even married yet and he's already thinking about children?"

"WHAT?!" It was Kohaku's turn to be speechless. She was more concerned with the act itself that she hadn't even considered the potential consequences. Her head started spinning from the mere prospect of having Senku's child.

"Amaryllis, what in the world would make you think that Senku wants to have a child?" Yuzuriha was incredulous.

"Well, I thought... I mean, why else would he..." she struggled to form a coherent sentence.

"It's a lesson passed down through 'The Hundred Tales'. We are taught to reserve the act of love-making for the purpose of child-bearing," Ruri clarified.

"Yeah, that's right. From 'The Hundred Tales'," Amaryllis nodded vigorously.

"However, I'm sure this was not Senku's intent, as not all instances of love-making will result in a pregnancy," Ruri explained as a tiny glimmer of sadness reflected in her eyes, that Kohaku couldn't help but notice.

"She's right," Yuzuriha affirmed. "Besides, Senku's not reckless or irresponsible enough to do something so risky without a plan. I'm sure he's already whipped up some form of protection in the lab."

"Protection?"

"Oh, that's a term from my era. Think of it as... a 'scientific tool' to prevent pregnancy."

"PERMANENTLY?" Kohaku questioned in alarm.

"No, of course not! Just one time."

She breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. Then, a thought occurred to her.

"Ruri? You seem pretty certain about all this. Does that mean..."

Her sister smiled, knowing she'd been found out. "That's right. I've decided to become a mother."

Kohaku's face lit up instantly. "Ruri, that's amazing! Why didn't you say anything sooner?"

"We've only been trying for a while. I didn't think it was worth mentioning until there was actual news to share."

"Are you kidding? This is incredible news!" Kohaku launched herself at her sister, wrapping her in a warm embrace. "Just think. Pretty soon I'll be an aunt. So, you need to keep at it, Ruri. Any chance you get. And I'll make sure Chrome doesn't waste all his time at the lab. I'll drag him kicking and screaming if I have to," she declared proudly, raising her fist in the air.

"That's a bit excessive, don't you think?" Amaryllis was shaken by Kohaku's sudden brazenness.

"Hah! Nothing's too excessive if it means Ruri gets to become a mother."

"Hee, hee. Suddenly, you don't seem so shy about intimacy, Kohaku," Yuzuriha noted with a giggle. "Does that mean your confidence has gone up?"

"I-it's different when it's about Ruri." Kohaku averted her gaze, a faint, new blush spreading across her face. "The truth is... I don't have a clue what I'm doing and I'm worried I won't be able to... please Senku," she murmured under her breath.

"Oh, Kohaku. That's nothing to be ashamed of. It'll be a learning experience for both of you. What matters most is that you don't rush into anything until you're fully prepared to give yourself to him." Ruri tried her best to console her sister.

Kohaku contemplated this for a moment before giving a firm nod and turning to look her sister square in the eyes. "I know I'm ready. I haven't stopped thinking about him since the day I left. The whole time, I couldn't wait to come back and get married. I still can't wait. I WANT to be Senku's wife!" she declared boldly, leaving all three women in awe.

A tender smile slowly spread across Ruri's lips. "That's wonderful to hear, Kohaku. I'm truly happy for you. And I wish you both a bright and joyous future together."

"Thanks, Ruri. But there's still one thing weighing on my mind," she confessed with a hint of uncertainty. "When we were together before, Senku seemed to know exactly what he was doing. I can't help but feel like... like I'm lagging behind. Can anyone give me some advice?"

Yuzuriha's face suddenly lit up as she got a brilliant idea. "Actually, if you need a confidence booster, then follow me," she implored, leading them to a room at the back of her design studio.

She turned to face her companions and gave them all an elated smile that could rival that of her husband's, as she opened the door and hit a light switch, revealing what she had hidden within.

The three of them were absolutely speechless as they all gasped in surprise with eyes widened in bewilderment.

"Go ahead and take your pick." urged Yuzuriha. "I guarantee, you won't regret it!"

...

Meanwhile, back at the lab, Senku was wrapping up his demonstration. "And... it's done. Did you get all that?"

"Got it, Senku," Suika confirmed with a curt nod.

"Uhh... question: What's the deal with this project? What are these things even for?" asked Chrome, suspicious of Senku's intentions.

"Don't ask questions. Just follow my instructions," he demanded, blowing off his inquiries. "So, did you get it or not?"

"Yeah, yeah. I got it. But..."

"Great. So, you got your pick of sodium chloride, copper sulfate, and lithium chloride. Oh, and if you're running low on gunpowder, I went ahead and prepared more than enough sulfur, charcoal and potassium nitrate beforehand," he explained, going off on one of his typical scientific ramblings, cutting off Chrome before he could argue.

"You can even mix some of the potassium nitrate with hydrochloric acid to get some potassium chloride. If you use that instead, it'll give you a whole other effect. Just toss some into a fire and you'll see what I mean."

"A fire? Senku, this is sounding a lot like..."

"Oh, and I need at least a hundred of these by tomorrow. So, I'd get started if I were you," he advised before heading for the exit

"Okay, Senku. We're on it!" Suika was fully dedicated to fulfilling her mission and went straight to work.

"Hey, hang on a minute! You're not even gonna..." Chrome tried to complain, but Senku was already out the door. "That jerk! He dumps a crap ton of work onto us and just leaves? Now I have to call Ruri and tell her I won't be coming home tonight. Thanks a lot, Senku," he grumbled under his breath. "The least he could've done was answer my questions. What's with all the secrecy, anyway?"

"I think it's like Kohaku's mission to find a diamond. Senku must be planning a surprise for her too," Suika deduced.

"A surprise for that gorilla? Oh great, I got roped into another one of their crazy love schemes. You know, normal couples don't have to go through all this trouble."

"Well... maybe that's the point," proposed Suika. "They're not normal. They're both really special. And maybe they want to prove that to each other with these grand gestures."

"Oh yeah? If that's the case, then why are WE the one's doing all the work, while Senku's off doing who knows what?"

"Umm... maybe he's planning more than one surprise?" Suika suggested, trying to defend Senku's actions.

.

"Here's the basic design I want you to follow," said Senku, as he drew up a quick blueprint for Kaseki on the spot. "I'm also including all the necessary measurements. So, think you can get it done by tomorrow?"

"By tomorrow?" he pondered, looking over the schematic. "No problem. Consider it done, Senku."

"Tch, heh, heh. I knew I could count on you, old-timer. Here are all the materials you'll need to get the job done."

"I bet this is a gift for Kohaku, isn't it?"

"That's exactly right. Ten billion points to you, Kaseki."

"In that case, I'll make it extra special, just for her. How does that sound?"

"Sounds like music to my ears. I leave it in your capable hands," Senku smirked in satisfaction before setting off to achieve his next objective.

"Alright, that just leaves one more task left to handle. But first... Why-man, I've got a special job for you. Listen closely, 'cause this is of the utmost importance."

Senku then relayed a specific set of instructions for Why-man to follow, finishing it up with, "Ya got that?"

"Message received. Directive of the utmost importance has been acquired."

"Excellent." He grinned in his typical devious manner. "Now get to it."

"Understood." Why-man reduced its mass to near zero and levitated in the air, then drifted off to complete its mission.

Everything was going exactly as Senku had planned. And with any luck, tomorrow would go down without a hitch.

...

Finally, the day of the wedding had arrived. It was already late into the morning and everyone was running around in a panicked frenzy after a startling revelation had come to light. Questions were being asked left and right. Apparently, the groom had gone missing overnight.

"SENKUUU! WHERE ARE YOU? YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE GETTING MARRIED TODAY!" hollered Taiju. "COME OUT, BUDDY! EVERYONE'S WAITING FOR YOU!"

"Oho, Senku, what could be keeping you? I finished your gift to Kohaku like I promised. So, please don't keep her waiting at the altar," Kaseki murmured to himself.

"Eriously-say, Senku! You had to go and pull a disappearing act on the day of your wedding? What in the world could you be thinking!? Ryusui's gonna kill you for this. And I don't even wanna think about what Kokuyo will do to you," Gen thought aloud with a shudder.

"DAMMIT, SENKU! JUST WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PULL HERE?" Ryusui was furious. "I DIDN'T BUST MY ASS AND INVEST BILLIONS JUST SO YOU CAN BACK OUT AT THE LAST SECOND. SO, SHOW YOURSELF! RIGHT NOW, DAMMIT!"

"I don't get why you're all surprised. I knew this whole thing was doomed from the start. Senku's not the marrying type," claimed Yo.

"For once, I can agree with you," said Magma. "I never bought into this whole wedding garbage for even a second."

"So, he doesn't have the balls to go through with it, huh?" questioned Moz. "I knew that scrawny weakling wasn't man enough for a catch like Kohaku. That's good news for me, though. Now I've got a chance to pick up the pieces when she finds out her string bean ran out on her."

"Don't sling mud at Senku's good name. He may be weak, but he's no coward. If he had any intention of going back on his word, then he would be upfront about it."

"Get real, Kinro. This is Senku's way of being upfront. He's sending everyone a message that 'there's no way he's getting married' by not even bothering to show up," argued Ginro.

"I'd have to agree with that assessment," chimed in Hyoga. "He sends a far louder message with his actions than with words alone. I fear all the efforts of this past week will go to waste."

"Senku's not getting married after all? That means I've still got a chance," Luna whispered to herself. She was positively giddy, trying and failing to suppress the giant smile plastered on her face.

"ARGHHH! SENKU, YOU BASTARD! I WARNED YOU WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU TOYED WITH MY DAUGHTER'S FEELINGS. IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE AND MARRY KOHAKU LIKE YOU PROMISED, I'LL HAVE YOUR HEAD," Kokuyo shouted his threats into the open air, expecting Senku to hear him and come out of hiding.

The discourse among many continued in this way, until it eventually reached Byakuya. To say that he was shocked by the news of his son's disappearance was an understatement. Senku had sworn he wanted this marriage just yesterday. Why would he take off so suddenly? He grew anxious and hoped that none of this had gotten back to Kohaku. Fearing the worst, he decided to pay her a visit and have a talk.

Byakuya made his way to the Nanami mansion where the wedding was to be held. Upon arrival, someone led him to the guestroom that was serving as the 'bridal suite' where Kohaku was getting ready. Along the way he overheard several people discussing the likelihood of the wedding being canceled, confirming his greatest fear. He needed to do some damage control and fast.

He reached the 'bridal suite', gave a gentle knock, and announced himself.

"Come in," Kohaku called back to him.

He opened the door and was pleasantly surprised by the sight that awaited him.

Kohaku was seated and just about done having her hair styled by the islander girl who he had come to know as Amaryllis. Also in the room was Yuzuriha—kneeling on the floor making sure Kohaku's dress was absolutely flawless—and Ruri—standing at Kohaku's side holding a flower crown.

Kohaku wore her hair down and straight, letting it drape around her neck and shoulders. Her gown was pure white and complimented her beauty perfectly. Then, as a final touch, Ruri placed the flower crown on her head. Following that, Kohaku turned to look at him, revealing her made-up face.

Amaryllis had opted for a natural look that accentuated her best features—her eyes especially. Byakuya couldn't help the smile that crept over his lips. There's no way in hell Senku would walk out on this angel. And if he had, he swore to make his life a living hell.

"Oh, Byakuya... What can I do for you?"

Byakuya was surprised by the calm atmosphere in the room. Kohaku seemed so cool and collected. Clearly, she wasn't aware of the chaos going on outside.

"Well... I was hoping we could have a talk. Do you have a moment?"

"Of course," she replied with a kind smile. "Everyone, could you..."

"Et! Say no more." Amaryllis held up a finger to silence her. "Our job here is done."

"Indeed. Why don't we all go look for Minami so she can take some photos," suggested Ruri.

"That's a great idea. Come along Yuzuriha," Amaryllis grabbed the aforementioned, pulling her by the arm.

"Wait! I'm almost done."

"Trust me, it's already perfect," she insisted, practically dragging her out of the room.

"So? What did you want to talk about?" she asked as soon as they were alone.

"Well, let me just start by telling you how lovely you look, dear. I probably sound like a broken record, but Senku really lucked out when he met you."

"Really? 'Cause I think I'm the one who lucked out when I met Senku. My life has changed in so many unbelievable ways thanks to him. And now... I can't imagine my life without him."

Kohaku's words brought him to the brink of tears.

"Oh Kohaku, I don't want to lie to you... I don't know if you've heard, but Senku's missing and all everyone can talk about is how he 'walked out on you'. But I'm here to tell you that that's just not true. I may not have a clue where he is right now, he really does want to marry you. He told me so himself, just yesterday. He said he'd do just about anything to make you happy, like putting himself through this big, flashy wedding, even though he hates it. Why, he even..."

"Wait a minute! What did you say? Senku hates this wedding?" she asked, cutting him off mid-rambling.

"Right, but didn't you hear what I said? Everyone thinks..."

"Yeah, yeah, they think he's leaving me. I heard," she shrugged off the claim like it was nothing. "But, I don't care what anyone else thinks. They're wrong, Senku's not missing."

Kohaku then reached for something on the vanity behind her and turned back around, holding it out for Byakuya to see.

"Directive fulfilled," announced Why-man.

"He left me a message explaining everything and swore that he'd be back in time to get married today. So, I'm not worried. Now tell me what he said about the wedding," she implored.

That brat. Is he trying to give me a heart attack?— He thought to himself before answering. "He said he never wanted a lavish wedding, and that all the wedding planning was driving him crazy. He only went along with it because he wants to make you happy and give you the wedding he thinks you deserve."

"What? Why didn't he tell me he was so miserable? I don't care if our wedding is fancy or not. All that matters to me is promising our lives to one another. Personally, I like the hard and fast approach. If there's a way to cut out all this excess and fluff, I'm all for it."

All of a sudden, Byakuya burst out laughing. He couldn't believe the level of trust between these two, or how in sync they were. "Boy, you two really are perfect for each other. Senku said something similar. If that's how you feel, then why don't you just have a small wedding, with the people who are most important to you?"

Kohaku tilted her head in confusion, not quite grasping Byakuya's notion. "But I thought weddings were about celebrating with everyone. That's how it was for Ruri and Chrome, and for Taiju and Yuzuriha, too."

"Not all weddings need to be the same. Here's an idea," he proposed, holding up a finger for emphasis. "What if I told you there was a way to get married that will make you both happy?"

Byakuya explained what he had in mind and Kohaku instantly adored the idea. It sounded like everything she could've ever wanted. So, she began devising her own plan of action to have the wedding of her dreams, and by extension, a wedding Senku would appreciate far more than the spectacle Ryusui had planned. Just when they got done planning, someone new burst through the door.

"Kohaku! I'm so sorry, I'm late."

"Suika! Perfect timing."

"Kohaku, I heard what everyone's been saying, but you can't believe them," she pleaded, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. "Senku wouldn't do that to you. He..."

"I know, Suika! Don't worry about all that. Right now, I need your help with something. Find all the people on this list and have them meet at my sister's house. I'll explain everything there."

Suika didn't ask any questions. She just followed Kohaku's instructions and set out to locate her targets. First, she found Chrome in the middle of a conversation with Kaseki, who looked like he was passing something along to him, but Suika couldn't tell what, exactly. She relayed the message and then went to look for the others.

Meanwhile, Kohaku went to Ukyo and Tsukasa and filled them in on her plan. They understood completely and agreed to lend a hand. Once that was taken care of, she went to Taiju and gave him very specific instructions. Following their conversation, her plan quickly went into motion

...

It was well past noon by the time Senku started heading back to Tokyo. His final mission had taken far longer than he had anticipated, but he knew Kohaku would understand. The real problem was dealing with everyone else who surely thought he had gotten cold feet and decided to skip out on the wedding completely. He got a headache just thinking about it, but it would all be worth it when his master plan paid off.

His ship finally made landfall close to sunset. Luckily, he had thought ahead and brought his wedding attire with him, so as not to waste any time. He even took Yuzuriha's advice and decided to wear his hair down for once, in a half-updo with his bangs pushed out of his face.

He disembarked the boat alongside Soyuz and a mysterious, hooded figure.

"Alright, you know the plan. Just stay hidden and wait for the cue."

"I remember, Senku. Now, get going. Don't keep your bride waiting any longer."

"Right. Thanks again!" he called over his shoulder as he headed for the Nanami mansion. However, he didn't get far before being ambushed.

Someone had taken him by surprise and thrown a sack over his head. They then proceeded to gag him and immobilize him with rope. Knowing he was powerless to break free, the went down without resistance. Soon, he felt himself being lifted off the ground and getting carried away.

Funnily enough, this wasn't the first time he'd been taken captive like this. But the last time this happened, he got surprised with a whole ass observatory as a birthday gift. And considering he hadn't made any recent enemies who wanted him dead, he could only assume this was a similar situation. Although, whether surprise or punishment awaited him was anyone's guess.

Unfortunately, the gag made it impossible for him to explain himself. So, he just had to wait and see what was in store.

After several minutes of running, Senku finally felt himself getting set onto the ground. He could vaguely make out the sound of a gushing waterfall as he felt someone loosening the gag and ropes. Finally, the sack came off and he found himself at the Space Elevator Testing Site.

"Tch! What is this? An execution?" Senku scoffed, assuming this was part of some plan to punish him after all.

"Not quite."

Senku's eyes widened in surprise at the voice he heard. He turned around and came face to face with his father. And standing next to him was Taiju, who Senku assumed was responsible for capturing and bringing him here. Beyond them, he saw Yuzuriha, Suika, Ruri, Chrome, and Kokuyo all dressed in formal attire.

"Old man? What's going on? Why did you all bring me here?"

"Because it's all part of my plan," Kohaku replied, as everyone cleared a path for her, allowing her to step forward in all her glory, holding a bouquet.

"Kohaku?" Senku was awestruck by her presence. She'd never looked more beautiful to him than she did at that very moment.

"Welcome home, Senku," she said with a playful smile, clearly amused by his stunned expression. "And to answer your other question, what's going on is—you and I are eloping!"

Senku stood silent for a few seconds before an enormous grin spread across his face. "Ah, hah, hah!" Senku brought a hand to his forehead and the other to his hip, laughing with his whole body. "Are you serious?!"

"I take it that means you're on board?"

"Tch, heh, heh. You bet I am. It's perfect!" he exclaimed enthusiastically, never losing his smile. "Didn't realize that was a concept your village was familiar with."

"It isn't." she confessed. "Your father told me about it. And I have to admit, it's much more my style than a full blown wedding."

"Yeah, same here. I'm just surprised Ryusui would go along with this. Where is the greedy bastard?" he asked, taking another look around.

"Oh, I wouldn't worry about him. Or anyone else for that matter. They're all a bit... incapacitated at the moment." She explained with a mischievous smirk.

Senku's laughter came back in full force. "You petrified them, didn't you? Bravo, Lioness! You're officially as scummy as I am."

"Hah! No one's as scummy as you, scumbag. I just thought it'd be best to keep things simple and share this moment with our families. Both mine..." she began, gesturing to Kokuyo, Ruri, Chrome, and Suika."...and yours," she ended her remark with a smile, gesturing to Byakuya, Taiju and Yuzuriha.

Senku couldn't help but smile in return. He was genuinely touched that she had thought to keep the ceremony intimate but still include his two oldest friends as part of his family. It was ridiculous how Kohaku always knew just what to say and do to pull at his heartstrings—and always right when he needed it most.

"So, then... we doing this, or what?

"Almost. There's just one more thing to take care of. Taiju?"

"I'm on it!" he announced, before advancing on Senku and stripping him of his tuxedo jacket.

"Hey, what the... What do you think you're doing, you big oaf?"

"Don't worry, you won't be needing that," Kohaku reassured. "Suika?"

"I got it right here," she confirmed, passing her a white article of clothing.

"Here, put this on, instead."

Senku accepted the garment and unfolded it to find that it was just an ordinary lab coat. He got the message loud and clear, complying to her request.

"Alright, everybody, places!" Kohaku shouted, cuing everyone to get into position.

As the village priestess, Ruri stood in as the officiant, standing before Senku and Kohaku. Suika and Yuzuriha acted as Kohaku's bridesmaids, while Chrome and Taiju served as Senku's groomsmen, flanking the bride and groom respectively. Meanwhile, Byakuya and Kokuyo stood as the witnesses to their union.

"Before we get started, there's one final change I'd like to make," said Ruri, crouching down in front of Kohaku.

"What are you doing, Ruri?"

"Making this a true Kohaku gown," she replied before grabbing the skirt of her dress and tearing a long vertical slit up the left side, making Yuzuriha gasp in horror.

"RURI!" Kohaku was about to panic before taking a look at her sister's handiwork. "Oh... that is better."

"Please forgive me Yuzuriha," Ruri pleaded, sparing her an apologetic glance.

"I-it's okay. A high slit does suit Kohaku, now that I think about it."

"I'll say," agreed Senku, admiring Kohaku's exposed leg.

"Now then, wel-..."

"Wait, wait! Hold on a second," Byakuya interrupted Ruri, pulling out a camcorder, which he most likely snagged from Minami's statue. "Gotta record this moment on film for future posterity. Alright, action!"

Senku shook his head in disapproval, trying his best not to let his father's antics get to him, while Kohaku simply giggled.

"Welcome, all. Thank you for joining us on this joyous day to witness the union of these two individuals in wedded matrimony." Ruri had barely gotten started, and Taiju was already starting to tear up, sniffling in Chrome's ear, who just cringed at the snot dibbling down his nose.

"Senku... Kohaku..." Ruri addressed the groom and bride respectively. "...today marks the start of a new chapter in your lives as you embark on a journey like never before. A journey that will bring about not only new adventures and countless moments of happiness, but also challenges that will put your bond to the test."

"Such times will demand patience, understanding, perseverance, and a dedication to one another meant to withstand the test of time. And so, as you commit yourselves to one another, I ask that you reflect on your time together up until this point and acknowledge why you choose to stand here today."

Senku raised a brow in suspicion at this, knowing there had to be more to this than simply thinking about their reasons. This had the old man's stink all over it.

"Please turn to one another and profess that which you value most in the other, so that your bond may be fortified," Ruri instructed.

"Seriously, geezer?" Senku questioned in annoyance.

"Go on, Senku. Don't be shy. Tell your bride all the reasons you love her," Byakuya urged with a gigantic grin plastered on his face, earning a glare from his son.

"It's fine, Senku," Kohaku reassured, taking his hand to direct his attention to her. "I'll go first."

"Senku... from the moment we met, you've fascinated and astounded me. Who knew that when you rescued me that day, you'd be saving me from much more than being pinned under a tree. You'd also be saving me from a lifetime of fighting for survival, from a lifetime of ignorance to the ways of science, and most importantly, from a lifetime of loneliness," she exclaimed with a somber smile.

"If not for you, Ruri wouldn't be alive today. So, I don't even wanna begin to imagine how my life would be different without you in it. You've shown me things outside my wildest dreams and made the impossible possible. It makes me wonder if there's anything you can't do."

"Well, for one—he can't dance," heckled Byakuya, earning a few laughs from the crowd.

"Way to ruin the moment, old man," Senku snapped back.

"Ha, ha! Well, dancing aside... you're still the most capable man I've ever met in my life," she claimed, earning a disgruntled snort from her father, who simply crossed his arms in silent protest.

"In all the time that I've known you, you've shown a level of perseverance and dedication to accomplish your goals that's unrivaled and is so unbelievably awe-inspiring. Senku, your strength of character is unlike anyone I've ever known. It's what motivates me to follow you and work my hardest for you, and even more than that—it's the reason I love you!" she blurted out without even thinking, surprising everyone, including herself.

Kohaku's heart began to race as her cheeks flushed at her own admission. Neither one of them had ever said 'I love you' to the other before and now she was nervous about being the first to confess. However, she didn't regret saying it one bit, because at that moment, that's exactly how she felt.

"Tch, heh, heh," Senku chuckled at her embarrassment. "I should hope that you do. Otherwise, what are we doing here?"

This gave Kohaku the confidence she needed to continue her speech. "I... I really, truly mean it, Senku. I love you... just the way you are. So..." she added, passing her bouquet to Suika. "...don't think that you need to change yourself for my sake."

With her hands free, Kohaku reached up to the ribbon tying back Senku's hair, undoing the knot, setting his wild tresses free. She combed her fingers through his hair, and styled it into his iconic, spiky hairdo. Once done, she cracked a smile, admiring her handiwork.

Then, Taiju let out a considerably loud sob as he wept tears of joy. Suika, Yuzuriha and Byakuya were also moved to tears.

"That was lovely, Kohaku!" applauded Ruri. "Now you, Senku. Profess that which you value most in your partner so that your bond may be fortified."

"What I value most about you, huh? Sure, I think I can manage that," he said with a bit of a mischievous smirk.

"Kohaku, the reason I'm here today can be summed up into one main idea." He paused for a moment to add suspense. "I'm here because you're a lioness."

Nearly everyone grunted in disapproval at his response.

Kohaku was especially disappointed with that answer and shoved his shoulder. "Senku, you scum! I pour my heart and soul out to you and that's all you have to say to me?" It was taking everything in her power not to strangle him.

"Tch, heh, heh. Easy Lioness, let me explain. Have you ever wondered why I call you that?"

"Hah! I don't have to wonder. It's obviously to get a rise out of me for your own twisted sense of humor," she narrowed her eyes at him.

"Well, you're not wrong about that," he said with another chuckle. "But if that were the only reason, I'd call you a gorilla, like Chrome does."

"Hey, leave me out of this! I'm not taking a beating 'cause of you."

"Shut it, Chrome!" Kohaku shot him a glare, before looking back at Senku. "Gorilla? Lioness? What difference does it make? The result is the same," she expressed, still visibly angry.

"There's a huge difference," he insisted, taking her hands in his. "Kohaku... when I look at you, I see the epitome of a lioness—the perfect balance of ferocity and compassion."

Suddenly, her anger began to quell. She looked at him intently, waiting to hear what else he had to say.

"You're strong and independent, but that doesn't keep you from being selfless and protective of others. You're wild and free, but that only adds to your beauty and charm. You can be proud and temperamental at times, but when it really counts, you're decisive and hardworking. You're confident without being arrogant, and driven to the point of never giving up, but that's only because you're resilient enough to power through and pull off anything you set your mind to. I could keep going, but I think you get the point."

Kohaku was speechless. She would never complain about being called a lioness ever again.

"You believe I'm capable of anything and that motivates you to support me, but that's backwards," he continued. "It's because you've supported me from the start that I've been able to achieve so much. I wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as I have without you, because there's ten billion things you can do that I can't. You're everything I'm not and more, and that makes you invaluable and irreplaceable to me."

"You're the answer to everything I could ever need, as well as everything I never knew I wanted. And I don't want to know what life would be like without you, either."

Kohaku felt like she could cry at any moment. She hadn't expected him to say something so heartfelt. His words were so touching, it was all she could do to keep from throwing herself at him.

"And if that isn't enough to convince you, then let me spell it out for you," he said as he took the ribbon from her hand and pulled the flower crown off her head, discarding it to the ground. "I love you, too. And I wouldn't change a single thing about you," he added, tying her hair into her signature ponytail, giving a contented smirk upon seeing that familiar mess of a lion's mane once more.

"Now, you probably won't catch me saying it very often, so, just remember that whenever I call you 'Lioness', I say it with love."

Kohaku couldn't take it anymore. She wanted so desperately to kiss him at that moment, and it showed.

"What are you waiting for, Kohaku? Kiss him!" urged Byakuya.

"YEAH! DO IT, KOHAKU!" insisted Taiju.

Kohaku looked at Ruri pleadingly, as if asking for permission, which was answered with a simple nod.

That was all the encouragement she needed. She pulled him close and kissed him with all the emotion surging through her body, while everyone applauded them, which neither heard as they became lost in their own world. They remained like this for quite a while, until Ruri was forced to interrupt.

"Ahem! Shall we proceed?"

"Yes! Sorry, Ruri," Kohaku apologized, finally separating herself from Senku.

"Now that your feelings have been made clear, it's time to express your intentions toward one another. Before all these witnesses, declare the promises you vow to uphold in your marriage. Kohaku, you may begin."

"Okay," she said as she gathered her thoughts. She found herself reflecting on the questions that Xeno had asked her a week ago and the answers she came up with.

"Senku... as your wife, I vow to be your number one ally and continue supporting you in all your goals... no matter how impossible they may seem. I've trusted and believed in you from the very beginning, and that's not about to change. So, I also vow to uphold my faith in you, always. And one more thing..." she said, placing a hand on Senku's cheek. "...I know what you tried to do for me, and I appreciate it, but I want to keep things fair and be able to reach a solution we're both happy with. So, for my final vow, I promise to be open and honest with you, so long as you promise to do the same."

"Tch, heh, heh. You've got yourself a deal, Lioness. No more holding back," he agreed without complaint, having learned his lesson.

"Wonderful. Now, Senku, before all these witnesses, declare the promises you vow to uphold in your marriage."

"Alright..." he began, pondering over the questions that his father had proposed to him a week ago, as well. "Let me start by saying that while I appreciate everything you do for me, I don't want to be a selfish bastard who takes advantage of you and only takes without ever giving back in return or is unwilling to make any sacrifices. So, Kohaku... as your husband, I vow to treat you with the respect that you deserve. Additionally, I know that science has always been my top priority, but that was before I realized how much you mean to me. So, I vow to make you and our relationship my new number one priority."

"Yeah, right. I'll believe it when I see it," Chrome mumbled to himself.

Unfortunately for him, Kohaku heard what he said and shot him a nasty glare, making him quiver in fear.

"Sorry," he apologized, practically getting on his hands and knees before Kohaku beat him mercilessly.

"And of course..." Senku continued, ignoring Chrome completely. "I also vow to be open and honest, and talk to you before making any huge, life-altering decisions. Fair enough for ya?" he asked casually, attempting to quell her anger and keep things light-hearted.

"Absolutely," she responded, her good mood fully restored.

"Excellent. Now that you've made your vows, allow me to finalize your marriage. Do you, Senku, take Kohaku to be your wedded wife from this day forth?"

"I do, ten billion percent."

"And do you, Kohaku, take Senku to be your wedded husband from this day forth?"

"I do, ten billion percent," she repeated after him, flashing a brilliant smile his way.

"Then by the powers vested in me..."

"GAH! WAIT!" interrupted Senku. "I almost forgot. There was something I meant to get from Kaseki before the ceremony. This would've been the perfect time to give it to you. Sorry, Lioness."

"It's okay, Senku. You can get it later."

"Wait a minute!" cried Suika. "Chrome, didn't Kaseki give you something back at Ryusui's house?"

"Huh? Oh yeah! You're right. Good going, Suika," he said, reaching into his jacket pockets. "Here it is!" he declared, pulling out a small leather pouch.

Senku let out a sigh of relief. "Ten billion points to you, Suika! Give it here, Chrome."

Kohaku watched as Senku reached into the pouch and fished out what looked like a small hoop made of metal.

"Heh, the old fart really outdid himself," he noted, examining the ring. "Here, put out your left hand."

Although confused, Kohaku did as asked. Senku then took her wrist and slid the ring onto her fourth finger. Kohaku looked down at her hand, and saw a glistening stone on her finger. It resembled the diamond batteries for Why-man, but was several times larger and had many more facets that caught the light and made it sparkle like crazy.

"Senku, it's beautiful! But isn't this a piece of the diamond I brought back?"

"Yeah, funny thing. It's traditionally the groom who gives a diamond to the bride, not the other way around. And since you went to the trouble of finding one, I got the idea to use a piece to make you a wedding ring."

"But Senku, that diamond was meant for your father. I can't accept this!"

"Sure you can. That diamond you brought back was so enormous, it could easily supply enough diamond batteries to let the geezer live another hundred years. Oh, and that's not all. Take a look at the band," he said, looking rather pleased with himself.

"Look familiar? It's made from the very same platinum that the old man spent decades gathering on Treasure Island."

"What? Senku... are you sure you want to give something so precious? These materials have been crucial components to everything you've striven for? What good would they do if I wore them like an ornament?"

"Well, first of all, that's exactly why I want you to have them. Secondly, you're right that wedding rings are a pretty meaningless token as far as functionally. But they do serve at least one logical purpose."

"And what would that be?" she asked, not all that convinced.

"It tells anyone in the world who sees it that you're a married woman and you're officially mine," he answered with a cocky grin, chuckling to himself.

Byakuya couldn't help but slap his hand to the forehead. "Leave it to MY son to take something thoughtful like a wedding ring and suck all the sentiment out of it," he whispered to himself.

"Hah! I see. This is just you marking your territory," she stated drily, crossing her arms and shrugging her shoulders. "Fine, whatever. I'll wear it. You can continue now, Ruri."

"Uh, okay. Now, by the powers vested in me as village priestess, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. May your future be ever prosperous and filled with endless blessings."

Everyone immediately broke out into booming applause, cheering and congratulating them on their marriage.

"So, was this everything you could've hoped for?" Kohaku asked.

"Definitely," he answered with a smirk. "But I do have one lingering question. Why did you choose this spot, of all places?"

"Oh that? Well, I figured that once we were married, we could celebrate with a 'leap of faith'. So, what do you say? Take the plunge with me?" she asked, extending a hand toward him.

"Tch, heh, heh. I married quite the dare-devil, didn't I. But then again, I already knew that. Sure! Why the hell not?"

"Alright, hold on tight, Senku!" she instructed, taking his arms and wrapping them around her waist from behind.

"With pleasure," he obliged, enjoying the feel of her body pressed against his.

"Ready? Here we go! WOOHOO!" Kohaku jumped off the ledge, sliding down the silk rope with Senku clinging to her for dear life.

"Those two are nuts!" yelled Chrome, who was still baffled by their unusual dynamic. "Who jumps off a cliff after getting married?"

"Those two, apparently," said Yuzuriha, equally as confused as Chrome. "But in a way, it's kind of sweet."

"It's like I told you, Chrome. They're really special people. So, they show their love in special ways."

"Yeah, well now we gotta go back and face the music. Ryusui's gonna be ultra pissed when he finds out they got married without him there."

...

"SENKU, YOU DEGENERATE SCUM! HOW DARE YOU LEAVE A BEAUTIFUL GIRL AT THE ALTAR! FORGET ABOUT ALL THE MONEY I WASTED ON THIS TRAINWRECK, I OUGHTA SUE YOU FOR THAT ALONE. NOW GET OUT HERE SO I CAN PUMMEL YOU, ONCE AND FOR ALL!" Ryusui yelled into the air, still under the impression that Senku had bailed on the wedding.

"Ryusui, would you please settle down? They already told you that Senku didn't leave Kohaku at the altar." Sai tried his best to calm his hysterical brother.

"Oh, really? 'Cause I don't see him around here, do you? And where the hell is here, anyway? We're supposed to be at the mansion, not at this dump!"

Looking around, he found himself on a beach alongside all the other wedding guests, looking rather dazed and confused as they came out of petrification.

"We're at the cape," answered Ukyo. "And it's not by accident, either. Kohaku requested it."

"Oh. Well... if it's what the bride wants, then I take it back. It's not a dump," he retracted after clearing his throat, trying to save face.

"Who cares about that?" shouted Minami. "What I wanna know is if the wedding is still on, or not. I didn't get all dolled up for nothing."

"Yeah, what gives? I came here for a party and to pick up lonely girls. This is a rip-off!"

"Real classy, Ginro," Kinro chided his brother.

"How deplorable," remarked Kirisame, distancing herself from him immediately.

"Patience, everyone," Tsukasa commanded in a booming voice. "You'll have your answers soon enough."

"Honestly, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what's happened here. Clearly, we were all petrified to buy some time until Senku made it back," posited Gen.

"Oh, yeah? Well, if you're such a 'genius', then why isn't he here?" challenged Yo. "And now, even Kohaku's gone missing."

"Yeah. How do you explain that?"

"Simple. The fact that we've all been depetrified at this very moment must mean that they're all on their very way as we speak."

"Ha! Nice try. But I'll believe it when I see it."

Then, as if on cue, a voice call from the distance. "HEY, EVERYONE! WE'RE BACK!"

"It's Kohaku!" cheered Chelsea, spotting her from afar. "And Senku's with her!"

"WHAT?!" Many were in sheer disbelief. They all rushed over and started bombarding the pair with a slew of questions. However, Byakuya decided to take matters into his own hands.

"Attention everyone!" he called out loud, preparing to make a big announcement. "Allow me to introduce, for the very first time, Mr. and Mrs. Ishigami!"

The newlyweds took this as their cue to step forth. Kohaku had her arm linked around Senku's, while Senku used his free hand to scratch his ear, not enjoying the limelight one millimeter.

"HUH?!" The vast majority were all dumbstruck by what they just heard.

"You mean you're already married?" Minami was the first to break the silence.

"Show 'em, Lioness."

Kohaku held out her left hand, flashing her diamond ring for all to see, which Minami immediately grabbed and inspected closely.

With one look at that ring, a sinister air began forming around Ryusui. "Senku... you lousy, good for nothing, prick," he growled low in his throat. "After everything I've done. All the time and money I've invested...YOU GO AND GET MARRIED BEHIND MY BACK!"

"Back off, Ryusui." Kohaku warned, immediately jumping to her husband's defense. "Eloping was my idea. Senku was just going along with what I wanted. So, if there's anyone you should be angry with, it's me."

"Ah, so this was all your doing, ay Kohaku? Well, in that case... consider it all water under the bridge. Now, let's celebrate your marriage with the party of the century!"

"WHAT?! Are you for eal-ray? You were furious just a second ago. And now, all is forgiven? Just like that?" Even Gen was baffled by his sudden change in tune.

"Of course it is. Far be it from me to deny a beauty the wedding of her dreams. NOW LET'S PARTY!"

"Unbelievable." That was all Gen could manage as he and the rest of the crowd funneled back onto the cape.

"Good thinking, taking the fall for all this, Lioness. There's no way in hell Ryusui would ever hold a grudge against a woman," Senku whispered in Kohaku's ear.

"Oh, it wasn't some kind of strategy. I just told him the honest truth. It's not my fault he's so easily swayed. Lucky for him, too, or else I would've had to do things the hard way." She slammed her fist into her palm to get her point across.

Senku laughed uncontrollably at this. "That's too bad for me. I would've loved to watch you kick some ass in that dress."

"Well, the night is still young. I'm sure Chrome will do or say something to annoy me eventually."

.

The celebration went off with a bang. There was music, dancing, feasting, and most of all, drinking. In fact, the older men from the village still hadn't forgotten how Senku once skipped out on this tradition by immediately asking for a divorce and decided to get their revenge by holding him hostage until he agreed to drink with them. Meanwhile, Kohaku was busy dancing her heart out with Suika and Amaryllis to come to his rescue.

"Did those two seriously petrify everyone just so they could blow off Ryusui's fancy pants wedding and elope instead? Hee, hee. That's wild!" declared Chelsea.

"Well, it was solely Kohaku's idea, but yes. And it was the most darling, little ceremony, too," Ruri exclaimed gleefully, clasping her hands together. "It's a shame more of you weren't there to see it."

"Don't remind me," Minami wallowed with her head resting on the table as tears streamed from her eyes. "First, I miss the proposal... then they exclude me from the wedding. I get that I'm not family, but they could've at least asked me to take some photos!"

"It's not too late, you know," Nikki pointed out. "You can still take photos of everyone here, enjoying the party."

"I would, but my camera's gone missing."

Suddenly, Byakuya popped up out of nowhere. "Would anybody here like to watch Senku and Kohaku's wedding? I got the whole thing on video tape," he asked.

"Hey! That's my camcorder!" Minami cried, rising out of her seat in outrage. "Give that back, you thief."

After getting chased around by the reporter for a bit and making off with the video cassette of the wedding, Byakuya sat down to take a breather and instantly got served a plate of food by the ever-hospitable Francois.

"As father to the groom, I present you with the finest dish I have to offer. Please, enjoy."

"Oh, thank you very much."

Shortly thereafter, Senku joined him, having finally gotten away from the mob of drunkards trying to force yet another drink on him. Once seated, he too got served with food. However, Francois went as far as to prepare his favorite dish.

"So, Senku... how does it feel to be a married man?"

"When the world stops spinning, I'll let you know," he joked, alluding to his inebriated state, before making the realization. "Wait, the world always spins. Never mind, I'll tell you now. Feels pretty damn great! Especially now that I've got this piping hot bowl of ramen!"

"THAT'S your take? What about your wife? Don't you have anything to say about her?"

"What's left to say? Kohaku's amazing. She deserves better than an egocentric low-life, but she chose me anyway. Now, my job is to make sure she never regrets that decision."

"Well, at least you're self-aware."

"Yeah, now what's that slop you're eating? We should be sharing a meal like old times. HEY FRANCOIS! BRING MY OLD MAN A BOWL OF RAMEN, STAT!"

"But of course. I've already anticipated your request and prepared accordingly." Francois appeared seemingly out of nowhere with another bowl of ramen in hand, as if by magic. "And might I add—I don't appreciate you diminishing my finest work."

"Yeah, sure. Sorry," he apologized dismissively, taking the bowl from their hands without a second glance. "Here old man. Dig in."

"Ramen ay? Boy, does that take me back. I haven't had a taste of ramen since my final days on the International Space Station."

Grabbing a pair of chopsticks, Byakuya brought a heaping helping of noodles to his mouth. He savored in the familiar taste that was identically rich and delectable to what he remembered. Flashes of the days when he sat with his son in their favorite ramen shop came flooding back to him. The memories brought tears to his eyes. It was so good, he could drop dead at that very moment and die happy.

A tiny smirk threatened to creep over Senku's lips as he studied his father's reaction. Before any heavy emotions could consume him, he redirected his attention toward his own bowl and focused on eating.

"Hey, Senku..." Kohaku arrived at their table carrying her own plate of food, looking especially delighted, and took a seat beside him. "... have you tried this incredible food that Francois made? I can't believe how good it is. You've got to try some."

"Oh, yeah?" he inquired with interest before doing the unthinkable and leaning over to eat the food directly off Kohaku's fork.

Everyone who witnessed this, gasped in horror.

"Mmm... you're right. That is good."

"IDIOT! Are you crazy!? Do you have a death wish or something?" Chrome immediately began reprimanding Senku for his foolish act.

"What the hell's your problem, all of sudden? And who are you calling an idiot?"

"YOU! You're the idiot. You can't just steal Kohaku's food! That's the absolute worst thing you could possibly do."

Senku was well aware of Kohaku's veracious appetite and given Chrome's intense reaction, he wondered whether he had crossed the line and would finally fall victim to one of Kohaku's beatings. He took a big gulp before turning to face her. However, rather than be upset, Kohaku simply smiled and held out her fork with another cut of meat on the end.

"Here, want some more?" she asked, offering to feed him, which he accepted.

"MAN! THE LAST TIME I DID THAT YOU ALMOST KILLED ME. SENKU GETS AWAY WITH EVERYTHING!" Chrome complained, falling backward onto the ground.

"Would you quit being such a baby, Chrome? Obviously I'm not going to beat my own husband."

In the midst of their bickering, Senku caught a glimpse of Soyuz from the corner of his eye and decided it was time to put his plan into action. He excused himself from the table and immediately got to work.

After watching Kohaku give Chrome a quick thrashing for another 'gorilla' comment, Byakuya was left in stunned silence. He hadn't realized just how right Senku was about her being temperamental.

"Wow, Senku better stay in line if he doesn't want to have you to contend with. But if he ever does mess up, can you promise to go easy on him?"

"Hah! Don't worry. I've never once laid a hand on Senku... not even when he would call me a lioness. I used to always hate that nickname, and Senku knew that. But now that I know the true meaning behind it, it's actually pretty endearing," she smiled, reminiscing on what he said about her.

Kohaku was suddenly pulled out of her reverie by the sound of Byakuya's voice. However, it was the current Byakuya sitting across from her who was speaking, but rather a recording of his voice.

They both turned to the source of the sound and found Senku making his way back to their table.

Byakuya immediately breaks out into laughter. "I see you cracked the code from the fourteenth tale and found the record in the time capsule I left for you. Well done, Senku."

"Tch, please. It wasn't exactly a head-scratcher. More like a riddle, at best. The answer was ten billion percent obvious."

They listened to the rest of Byakuya's message, and just before the music started, Senku did something else no one would've ever expected.

"Lioness... dance with me?" he asked, offering his hand to her.

Kohaku just stared at him, eyes wide and mouth open, unable to say a word. So, he took the initiative and grabbed her hand, leading her onto the dancefloor, while Byakuya watched with a contented smile.

Seeing as she still wasn't all that responsive, Senku took her hands and placed them on his shoulders, then placed his own hands on her waist right as the music began to play. Their movements were nice and slow—probably the only type of dancing that Senku would ever be capable of or willing to do.

Hearing Lillian's melodic voice pulled Kohaku out of her stupor. She couldn't help but marvel at all the surprises that Senku kept throwing at her. Which got her wondering about something.

"Hey, Senku... can I ask you something?"

"Tch, heh. You just did."

"Very funny," she replied with a sarcastic sneer. "But seriously, why did you decide to do this?"

"Why did I ask you to dance? Well, the fact that I've had at least three drinks might be a contributing factor."

"Not that. I'm chalking this up as a sudden stroke of insanity," she joked, drawing a hearty laugh from Senku. "No, I mean, why did you suddenly decide to propose?"

"Ah, that's what you meant."

"Yeah. Because the last time we talked about it, you said you didn't have the time to get married. What changed? Does it have anything to do with your father?"

"You want open and honest, right? Well the honest answer is that my decision to get married has everything to do with my father."

Kohaku lowered her gaze, looking downcast and feeling dejected after hearing that answer.

"BUT..." he added with emphasis, causing her to look him in the eye once more. "...choosing who to marry, had everything to do with you."

Her face lit up instantly. That was probably the best response he could've given.

"When Chelsea asked me who I'd choose, I thought it was the most ridiculous question anyone could ever ask me. And that's because I thought it was ten billion percent obvious that I'd choose you, when the time was right. But therein lies the problem—timing."

"Working on the time machine has been a monumental task that could prove fruitless in the end. I could've spent my entire life just trying to make a breakthrough, and I didn't want to drag you down that road, with me. But once I knew our efforts weren't in vain, and it would all pay off eventually, I was finally able to relax and enjoy what was right in front of me. I could finally allow myself to love you."

His words literally moved Kohaku to tears. With her hands already on his shoulders, she wrapped them behind his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. One that conveyed all the love in her heart that she felt for him at that very moment.

.

Meanwhile, a pitifully sad Luna watched this scene unfold from the sidelines and broke out in tears. "It's not fair! I'll never find another guy who's both smart and sexy. I'll be alone forever!" she wailed, throwing her head onto the table and sobbing into her arms.

Despite her distress, Max and Carlos high-fived each other, knowing their biggest threat had been eliminated.

However, in all her melodrama, Luna had accidentally knocked some silverware to the ground, which landed beside the feet of one of the other guests. Said guest recovered the utensil and decided to return it to her.

"Excuse me. Miss?"

Luna lifted her head and came face to face with a very handsome man with a luscious head of brown hair who held the air of a reserved intellectual. She sat there stricken by his presence. Which Max and Carlos immediately noticed and caused them to panic internally.

"Y-yes?" she barely managed to squeak out.

"I believe you dropped this." He said, handing her the knife.

"Oh, thank you... uhh... umm..."

"My name is Sai," he told her, giving her a friendly smile, which made her instantly turn a deep shade of red.

"O-okay. Thank you, Sai. I'm Luna."

"Nice to meet you, Luna. Try to be more careful next time. Okay? I'm sure no one would want you getting hurt."

"Oh, I will. Thank you!"

Luna could feel her heart racing as she watched him walk away. Had her prayers just been answered? Just when she had given up on ever finding love, the universe dropped a handsome, smart looking guy who is also thoughtful and kind right into her lap. She wouldn't let this opportunity slip away.

"Sai?" she called, chasing after him, much to Max and Carlos' dismay.

.

Back on the dancefloor, the song had reached the lull before the final chorus. However, when Lillian started singing again, the song seemed to grow louder and resound with an echo. It was odd, but many just dismissed it as a technical error with the sound system.

"Did this song always get louder toward the end?" Kohaku wondered aloud. But rather than answer, Senku just gave her a mischievous grin.

"You're gonna love this, Lioness. Look over there," he instructed, pointing at the stage where the band had previously been playing live music.

All Kohaku saw was an empty stage before a large curtain. However, one quick glance at Ukyo with her ultra keen vision and she could tell that something was definitely up. The song began climbing, growing into a crescendo. And the climax, the curtain dropped, revealing none other than Lillian Weinberg—pop diva, in the flesh.

She sang along to the record in perfect time, bringing everyone to their feet. To say everyone was stunned to see her live and in person, was an understatement. Nikki, in particular, was especially taken aback, and couldn't resist the urge to cry tears of pure happiness. The only person whose feelings could rival hers were those of Byakuya.

"Lillian? Can it really be?" Byakuya whispered to himself in utter disbelief. To see her again—his greatest confidant, mother to his children, and the woman he watched die in his arms—alive and well, was nothing short of a miracle.

The moment Lillian sang the final lyric, her eyes landed directly on Byakuya and she gave him the most radiant smile he had ever seen, triggering a torrent of tears.

"Hey, y'all!" she greeted, addressing the audience.

"I LOVE YOU, LILLIAN!" Nikki shouted at the top of her lungs.

"Aww... ain't that sweet? Thank you for staying a loyal fan all these years. And that goes for everyone. I can't even begin to tell y'all how amazin' it is to be back and be able to sing on stage again. I know that these are different times and that a whole lot has changed since humanity turned to stone, but I'd just like to say that what y'all have managed to do here is nothin' short of incredible. Y'all fought tooth and nail to give humanity a second chance. But I bet there ain't a single person who fought harder than my very own stepson," she proclaimed, setting her sights smack dab on the newlyweds.

"Ya know, I heard countless stories about a certain 'boy genius' who had the potential to do just about anythin' through the power of science. And today, I finally had the distinct honor of meetin' that very boy who's grown into an accomplished young man. Congratulations, Senku—on your accomplishments, on your marriage, and most of all, on your future. To the bride and groom!"

Lillian's speech elicited a round of applause from everyone there. Following the applause, Lillian put on another performance, singing a song the world hadn't heard in ages.

"Senku! I don't know how you did it, but this was your doing, wasn't it. You brought Lillian back somehow, didn't you? And then you brought her back here."

"Yeah, ten billion points, geezer. And you're welcome."

"This is why you were late for our wedding? So you could revive Lillian and have her sing at the party?"

"Pretty much," he confessed. "Although, there was another reason."

"Heh. You did it to get me out of your hair, didn't you?" Byakuya discerned immediately. "No, I get it. Now that you're a married man, you don't need your old man around cramping your style."

"Glad we have an understanding."

"After all the time you've spent apart, now you're trying to pawn him off to someone else? Hah! I'll never understand the way you think."

"Take it from me, for the sake of your sanity, you should only interact with the geezer in small doses."

"I can back that claim," Lillian chimed in, joining them shortly after signing her second song. "Livin' with him was certainly no picnic, I can tell ya that much."

"Hey, who's side are you on?"

"So, you must be the one. Kohaku's yer name. That right?" Lillian asked, disregarding Byakuya's complaint.

"Yeah, that's right. But how..."

"Senku told me, of course. After he introduced himself, he filled me in on his whole plan and how he wanted to surprise both you and his father. Shame I couldn't be there for the wedding, though. But I needed to stay a secret for the big reveal."

Pretty soon, everyone from Kohaku's family swoops in on them.

"You said you're Senku's stepmother? Well, then that makes you family," declared Kokuyo. "And to honor the joining of our two families, we should all have a drink together. Go on, everyone grab a drink."

"Father, I think you've had enough for one night." Ruri cautioned.

"Ah, I say let him drink. It's a special occasion."

"See that? Chrome understands. Now, here. You're also part of the family, so you should drink too," Kokuyo insisted, thrusting a drink into Ruri's hands.

"Wait!" Senku warned. "Ruri, you can't drink that."

"What? Why can't she?" questioned Chrome, getting defensive. "She can drink if she wants. Don't think that just 'cause you're part of the family now, that you get to call all the shots, like in the lab."

"I'm not, you idiot. Here. I've got your lab results back," he said, pulling a folded up piece of paper from his pants pocket.

"Lab results? What lab results?"

"The ones I took a week ago after you left to go diamond hunting with my wife," he answered rather irritably.

Ruri unfolded the paper and read the results. The expression on her face was difficult to read. She looked quite serious as she regarded the words on that piece of paper.

"Ruri? What is it? Is everything alright?" asked Kohaku.

"These results... are they correct? You're certain they are?"

"Yep, ten billion percent correct. Congratulations... you're pregnant."

"Huh?!" Chrome was more surprised than anyone.

"Ruri, this is so amazing! It's just what you wanted," Kohaku gave her sister a congratulatory hug.

Ruri let out a single, breathy laugh. "You're right. Did you hear that, Chrome? We're having a baby."

"Woah. Like, for real? That's bad. And I totally mean that in a good way."

"Did I hear that right? I'm going to be... a grandad?"

"That's right father. Our family is going to get even bigger," noted Kohaku.

"So, it is. This calls for celebration. DRINKS ALL AROUND!"

"Is that his answer to everything?" questioned Byakuya.

"Don't worry too much about him. He only gets this way whenever he's had too much to drink."

"I know another way we can celebrate. Suika! Chrome! Did you set everything up like I told you?"

"We sure did, Senku!" answered Suika.

"Perfect. Now, it's showtime. You know what to do."

"I'm on it!" Suika ran off into the night to initiate Senku's final surprise of the night.

"Another surprise?" pondered Kohaku. "What do you have up your sleeve this time?"

"Tch, heh, heh. You'll just have to wait and see."

"Ohh... I'm gettin' real curious, myself. I wonder what Senku's got planned next."

"Heh! Don't get too excited. After bringing you back to life, everything else will pale in comparison."

"Tch, we'll see about that, ya geezer."

Moments later, bursts of colorful lights filled the night sky, followed by thunderous booms.

"Fireworks! You made fireworks?" Byakuya was actually pretty impressed by this.

Everyone looked on in awe as starbursts of gold and turquoise filled the night sky, along with the occasional burst of pink and purple.

"They're lovely," Ruri commented to herself.

"Ohh... I haven't seen fireworks in ages. You sure outdid yerself, Senku."

"Hey, where is Senku?"

"Kohaku's gone, too."

While everyone was distracted by the fireworks display, Senku took the opportunity to lure Kohaku away so they could finally be alone together. He brought her to a secluded spot on the beach where they could still see the fireworks in the distance. Kohaku looked to the sky with fascination, appreciating the view, while Senku simply watched her and took in her reactions.

She suddenly turned to face him and was surprised to find him looking right at her.

"What? Why are you staring at me?"

"I'm just thinking."

"Oh? What are you thinking about?"

"About us... and our future."

This took Kohaku by surprise. During their time apart, she had also contemplated their future, just like Xeno had asked of her. Now, she was curious to know what Senku had to say about it.

"Hmm, I've thought about that too, and honestly... I can't even begin to imagine what our future will look like. Things keep changing so drastically thanks to scientific progress that I can't seem to keep up. But I know one thing's for sure... and that's that you're determined to create a brighter future for all of humanity. And I wanna be right there with you, lending you a hand every step of the way, as you make whatever future you've envisioned a reality."

"Tch, heh, heh, that's pretty noble of you, but in all honesty, I'm just as clueless as you are about what the future will hold. Both science and life can be pretty unpredictable. But there's at least one thing I can always count on... and that's you. So long as we're in it together, there isn't even a millimeter of doubt that we can tackle any challenge that comes our way and come out out top. Whether it's making the next big scientific breakthrough, taking on a new enemy, or even... starting a family."

"REALLY?!" Kohaku's face lit up instantly, with the most dazzling smile. She was so ecstatic, she was practically jumping up and down in place.

"Tch, heh, heh. Yeah." He replied, genuinely amused by her reaction and glad that his decision had been the right one. "Not right away, though. Let's enjoy it being just us for a while."

"Deal!" she agreed. "And I'd like to start by enjoy us, right now."

Kohaku didn't even give him the chance to respond before claiming his lips, intent on finishing what they had started the day before. Their future was sure to be filled with many new thrills and excitement. All they had to do was take things one step at a time.

The End.

A/N: At last! Here's the final chapter! OMG! This one is twice as long as the last one. TToTT

So sorry for the wait. It feels like forever since I last updated. October has been a crazy month for me and this chapter took far longer to write than I expected. But I really, really hope it was worth the wait, and that you enjoyed the crazy long read. I know that I absolutely love it. Especially the wedding, dance, and closing scenes. X3

It was exactly what I envisioned when I came up with this fanfic concept. A collection of sweet and sincere moments that were just about Senku and Kohaku and what they mean to each other and their promises to one another.

I love this story so much that I would categorize this fanfic as my 'ideal ending to the manga'... but not really, because I already have ideas for possible continuations. Honeymoon one-shot, anybody? ;D Leave a comment if that interests you.

But for sure, I already have at least one follow-up fanfic in mind, so be on the look out for that, along with a bunch of other ideas that I'd like to share with you. I hope to get back into regular updates come November. Unfortunately, I get most of my writing done on weekends. So, I ask you to please be patient. n_n'

Anyway, thank you so much to everyone who supported this fanfic. It's readers like you who keep me motivated and inspire me to continue writing. It also brings me great joy to wrap up another story. Thanks so much for reading. I hope to hear from you in the reviews and maybe catch you in another fanfic. But until then, this is goodbye.
