The next day, Kaylee said, "Guess what I just heard. All three guys got arrested, losing their license for two months, and got suspended for five days for what they did."

"That's going to teach them a lesson," said Kayla.

"I would never let anyone use my car if I knew they were high," said Kaylee.

"Same. That would be against the rules in my car," I said.

"I'd be the same way," said Beth.

"Oh, I read something interesting in today's paper. The young couple, who were killed, were set to get married next month," said Kaylee. "They were only in their late 20s."

"That's even worse," I said.

"Top of that, the woman was nine months pregnant with their first child. She was going into labor when it happened. The baby also died," said Kaylee.

"Wow," said Beth.

"I didn't want to mention it was April's mom who told me about the accident in case she was nearby," I said.

"Makes sense," said Beth. "Oh, yeah, I heard she ended things with Andy."

"It's about time she did something about it," said Kaylee.

"I didn't want to say anything in front of her," said Beth.

"I had a text from Mom saying she has to work late again. Would you like to help us tonight?" asked Kayla.

"I'd do it, but Carlos' home game is today and I usually go to support him," I said.

"Oh, yeah, we forgot about that," said Kayla.

"I baby-sit for a few kids in my area from time to time. I can take over if you would like me to," said Beth.

"That would be great," said Kayla.

"We live next door to Mary Anne's. You can walk home with us to make it easier," said Kaylee.

"I like that idea. I can recommend the others to you girls if you want in case I'm not free. I do it every once in awhile," said Beth.

"The only trouble is that we don't think we'd have time to be doing that. See, Mom have been working a lot since we moved here. Sometimes, she works late and our siblings are in their after school programs and they don't get home until after 4:00 pm. Sometimes she needs us or she'd have our siblings have a play date to give us a break," explained Kaylee.

"She usually helps us because D.J. is a handful and she knows how to handle him," said Kayla.

"I believe it," said Beth.

"And, we use that time to hang out," said Kayla.

"No problem," said Beth.

"However, you can always help out if she's not free," said Kaylee.

"And, you can baby-sit on the days you don't have the kids," said Beth.

The girls looked at each other and nodded.

"Deal," said Kayla as they shook hands.

"Mary Anne can help when she's up for it," said Kaylee.

At lunch, when we saw April coming around, we all turned away from her. No one wanted to deal with her. After lunch, I knew why she was looking for me: She was yelling at me.

"Why did you call my mom?" asked April. "I told you to stay out of it."

"Why? So I'd let you get hurt? I don't think so," I said.

Kayla must have heard April and came over and said, "I just heard you yelling at my best friend."

"You can't tell me what to do," said April.

"I just did," said Kayla. "She did nothing wrong. Don't you see what she was trying to do? She was just trying to protect you and you shut her out completely. She's just concerned about your safely.

Kayla walked away and joined us. She is protective and doesn't put up with any of that stuff.

"What was April's attitude?" asked Kaylee.

"She found out I told her mom," I said.

"Too bad," said Kaylee. "You had every right by telling her mom."

"I just told her to quit doing that," said Kayla.

"I had just walked away and ignored her," I said.

"Good," said Kaylee.

"I'm not sorry for what I did," I said.

"Have you decided on what to do with her?" asked Kayla.

"No, I was waiting to see what happens?" I asked.

"To be honest, why be friends with her if she can't see you were protecting her?" asked Kaylee.

"And, I gave Mary Anne credit by not ignoring about the guys," said Kayla.

"I'm considering to take a break from April for awhile," I said.

"I would," said Kaylee.

When school ended for the day, I was glad about that part. On the way, Beth texted her parents to tell them she won't be home for dinner and told them the reason. They understood.

"Are you feeling alright?" asked Kayla.

"I'm getting tired anyway," I said. "This was an emotional day for me."

"I believe that after what April did to you," said Kayla.

"I was looking forward to go until that happened. It makes me not to go anywhere, but I don't want to let Carlos down. I'd call April's mom, but if I do go, I want to enjoy myself, not being miserable," I said.

"I know," said Kaylee.

"Thank god the game is not until 4:00 pm," I said. "Sharon made plans to meet me and Dad there. Dawn decided to stay at the school to save less time."

"Smart," said Kayla.
