Bonnie couldn't get any sleep that night. She couldn't stop thinking about her poor little brother and how scary it must have been for him to spend the night wherever he was. Even in the best-case scenario, if he was staying with some kind family somewhere, she knew he missed his mother and sisters every bit as much as they missed him. He belonged at home with them, and should have been sleeping in his own bed with Wally. Not anywhere else.
But how could they get him back home? She remembered what the police had said about not having any leads. They would be starting a search, but it could take a while and who knew where Johnny was at this point? Finding him seemed downright imposs—
Bonnie immediately sat up in bed. Of course! Why hadn't she thought of that sooner? Kim Possible was a superhero who regularly did all sorts of amazing things, including fight supervillains and save the world. If she really could do things that no one else could, then maybe—just maybe—she could find Johnny and bring him home.
Of course, there was the small complication that the two girls were long-time rivals and constantly at each other's throats. Bonnie guiltily thought back to their exchange at cheer practice before she got the phone call about Johnny. Kim might be so hostile that she would refuse to help. And even if she did agree to help, there was a chance she wouldn't be able to find Johnny anyway, or that she would find him dead. But even then, things would be no worse than they already were. The only thing Bonnie had to lose in asking Kim for help was her pride, and that meant less than nothing to her right now. She was prepared to do absolutely anything to get her Johnny back.
Getting up out of bed, Bonnie made her way to her computer and turned it on. After impatiently waiting for it to power up, she got online and accessed Kim's website. Sure enough, there was a section where potential clients were asked to submit requests to the titular hero. Bonnie opened that section and began to write a heartfelt message asking Kim to help search for Johnny. It took her a while to write it, since she was so emotional—she had to stop multiple times to let herself cry a little—but finally she had finished her message.
Hitting enter, she received a pop-up saying that her request was submitted and that it would be reviewed. Obviously, it was the middle of the night, so Kim wouldn't see it right away. But hopefully she could see it at some point tomorrow.
Taking a deep breath, Bonnie went back to her bed. She still couldn't get any sleep—she was far too upset about her brother—but now she felt just the slightest bit better. There was, however small, a bit of hope.
A Stunning New Sitch
Kim woke up with a yawn on Tuesday morning, ready to face the day, when she heard her Kimmunicator going off. Very surprised, she checked the clock. It was only 6:20.
Picking up the Kimmunicator, she pressed the answer button. "Wade, seriously, what's the sitch? Why are you contacting me this early in the morning? And besides, I thought we were going to wait until Ron's over the flu to do any more missions."
The young super-genius she worked with sighed. "Yeah, I know. But this one just couldn't wait. Last night the website got a request for help from Bonnie."
That surprised Kim. That REALLY surprised Kim. "Bonnie? As in Bonnie Rockwaller? The snotty girl who hates the ground I walk on?"
Wade nodded. "Yep. That Bonnie. She said that—well, you'll just have to read it for yourself. I'm sending the text of her message to your screen. You won't believe it."
Wade's picture was replaced with Bonnie's message, and sure enough, Kim couldn't believe it.
Kim, this is Bonnie. I know I'm probably the last person in the world you're expecting to message your site, but I'm desperate and don't know where else to turn. The reason I left cheer practice yesterday is my little brother Johnny never came home from school. We've called the police and done all we can, but nobody's seen him. It's now two in the morning, and we still don't have any idea where he is.
Kim, Johnny's a seven-year-old boy who still needs a night-light to go to sleep. He's so defenseless, and the thought of him out on the street by himself has me scared out of my mind. I love that little boy so, so much. He's the kindest, sweetest child you'll ever meet in your life, and I can't even imagine what I'll do if he never comes home. Just thinking about it now as I type this is breaking my heart.
I know we've had our differences, but right now we need all the help we can get looking for Johnny. You're a superhero and you've done amazing things before, even saving the entire world. I don't know if you can also save a missing child, but I'd never forgive myself if I didn't at least ask. Kim, I'm begging you. Please, please find my baby brother.
Kim's jaw dropped as she read Bonnie's message multiple times. No wonder she had been so upset yesterday. This was incredibly bad, and for all the hostility between the two girls over the years, Kim's heart ached for what Bonnie and her family were going through. She knew right then she absolutely had to help search for Johnny, even if Ron was sick and out of commission. Time was of the essence in these cases.
"Wade, stand by. I'm going to call Bonnie right now." Kim picked up her cell phone and dialed Bonnie's number. After a couple of rings, she heard a sniffling Bonnie answer. "He—hello?"
"Bonnie, this is Kim. I got your message and—"
"KIM! Oh, thank God! Is there anything you can do to help us?"
"I'm on my way to your house right now. I'll need to get as much info about Johnny as I can, and then we'll start searching. Wade has a lot of tech the police don't, so that should be really helpful for the search."
"That's wonderful! Kim, thank you so much! You have no clue how much this means to us!"
A much happier Bonnie hung up, and Kim prepared for a mission. As she headed downstairs to fill her parents in on where she was going, she heard an explosion nearby. It was from Jim and Tim's room, as their latest experiment had malfunctioned.
Normally, Kim would have ignored it and moved on. But after Bonnie's message, she couldn't help but think about her own younger brothers. They could really drive her up the wall, but God, if anything ever happened to them—
That had actually come very close to happening only last year. The tweebs had jumped off the roof trying to copy a stunt they had seen on TV, and had both suffered serious injuries as a result. When Wade had messaged her to say they were in the ER, Kim had been so panicked she almost knocked Ron over racing to the hospital. Even now, a year later, she shuddered at the memory of that day. And Johnny's disappearance had brought those old memories to the surface.
"Jim, Tim, can you come here for a second?"
The tweebs, thinking their sister was angry about the explosion, headed over expecting her to chew them out. To their surprise, though, she knelt down and hugged them. "I just wanted to tell you guys I love you. You know that, right?"
"Uh, sure." Jim answered, with Tim nodding in agreement.
"Just checking." Kim affectionately ruffled the boys' hair, then went off to see Bonnie. The two boys looked at each other, confused at Kim's behavior. "Is she feeling okay?" Tim asked.
Jim shrugged. "Beats me. Maybe she got indigestion again."
