A few days later in Washington DC, President Olivia Marsdin was standing on a stage on the white house lawn with Supergirl, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter standing behind her, the press gathered on the lawn, all of them with questions.
"My fellow Americans. Thank you all for coming out here today. The heroes standing behind me here today represent the best of our nation, our planet. Each of them are already heroes in their own ways, in their own cities, but a few days ago, they came together to form something even greater. A team of heroes stronger than any one of them alone and they saved countless lives during an unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor. But before I officially thank them, I'm calling the leader of this group, Supergirl, up to explain the situation to everyone, since while they've already explained it to me, the truth should come from these heroes themselves. Supergirl." President Marsdin said as she stepped aside for Supergirl to walk up to the podium.
"Thank you Madam President. We'll get to the threat in a minute, since first I think it's time to address the question on everyone's minds. This group is not a one time thing. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, we discussed it and agreed that there are threats out there that not even Superman or I can handle ourselves, so we decided to make this team official. The heroes standing with me, Flash, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Batman, Green Lantern, Superman and myself have come together to form what we've decided to call the Justice League. The eight of us have sworn to uphold the ideals of truth, justice and a better tomorrow and we swear to always be there for the world whenever it needs us." Supergirl said as the entire crowd cheered at that, since Supergirl had just answered the biggest question.
"And now onto the more urgent matter. We may have won the battle at Pearl Harbor, but the war has only just begun. But this is not a war between America and any other nation. This is a war for all of humanity against an enemy that has been hiding in the shadows for years. A nation that until now was believed to be nothing more than myth and legend. This is war between the people of the surface world and the people of the undersea nation of Atlantis." Supergirl said as about a thousand different questions were thrown at her at once.
"Yes, Atlantis is real, we were just as surprised to learn that as you are. But their leader, King Orm, or as he prefers to call himself, Ocean Master, has declared war on the surface world. He justifies his attacks by saying that he's defending his nation, but in reality, he sees Atlantis as superior and because of that, thinks it is his right to control the entire world. But the Justice League stands ready to oppose him wherever he might attack, whenever he attacks, at least until we can find a permanent solution to this war. In the meantime, I recommend everyone worldwide begin moving further inland as much as possible. Stay away from coastlines, beaches, rivers that connect to the oceans, any large bodies of water, stay away until further notice. If you see any Atlanteans, do not try to engage, whether you're a soldier, a cop or regular civilian. Leave this fight to the Justice League, Atlantis is too advanced for any military on Earth to defeat. At least for right now. But remember, it's unity that wins wars, not division. The Justice League will do everything we can to end this war and keep everyone safe." Supergirl said.
"Do you have any plans to expand the Justice League beyond that eight of you?" Lois Lane asked, since she couldn't resist the press conference that announced the League's existence.
"Yes. However, we are not planning on expanding the League until after the war is over." Supergirl said as she continued to answer questions.
"I still can't believe you convinced me to do that." Batman said to Supergirl after the press conference had ended.
"You're a member of the League and the world needs to know that. But now we've got more important issues to worry about. Like our prisoner at Argus. I want to interrogate him before we turn him over to Belle Reve." Supergirl said.
"According to Wonder Woman, interrogating him is a waste of time, since Atlanteans are trained to resist all kinds of torture." Batman said.
"Which is why Martian Manhunter will be his interrogator, since hopefully J'onn can get through his mental defenses to get intel from him." Supergirl said and Batman nodded.
"Just more proof we picked the right person to lead the League. With you in charge, the Justice League will do great things." Batman said and Supergirl smiled.
"I appreciate your support. Though I have to admit, I was surprised when you backed me for leader of the League, since I thought it would've been you or Clark who took charge." Supergirl said and Burce sighed.
"And if this were back when we'd first debuted, we probably would've, but you are the face of the new generation of heroes that's been emerging, since you were the first one of them to. And I think the leadership you showed at Pearl Harbor proved that we made the right choice." Batman said.
"Thank you. But we need to get back to Argus, since for right now, that building will serve as our base of operations, since it's better suited than the Tower of Fate, but we'll need to find a more permanent base after the war is over." Supergirl said.
"I might have something in mind, but we'll come back to that later. Right now we need to get back to Argus, since while Superdog is a good guard, I'd feel more comfortable if our prisoner was being guarded by someone who can actually tell us if something's happened without having to leave his post." Batman said and Supergirl nodded in agreement.
"Mind if I give you a lift?" Supergirl asked, since the others had already left DC.
"As long as you don't carry me bridal style." Batman said and Supergirl chuckled.
"Since I'm sure your wife knows where your kryptonite stash is, I wouldn't dare." Supergirl said as she wrapped her arm around his waist and they flew off, unaware that someone had been listening on them and was now tracking them.
"I've located the Justice League. In pursuit now. I will accomplish my mission Princess Mera." Kaldur'ahm of Atlantis said, his gear hidden under the trenchcoat he was wearing.
"Good. Complete your mission Kaldur. The fate of Atlantis rests on its success." a female voice said in his ear.
"I will not fail. And we will end this war." Kaldur said as he disconnected his comms.
