An Unpleasant Realization

The three strange women ended up dropping Leo outside of the GCPD, where Sofia was waiting. When Leo got out the car Sofia knelt down and gave him a big hug.

"Oh Leo, my baby," Sofia cried, "Thank goodness you're alright."

Leo was confused by what his mother meant by that, but he just hugged her back. Sofia then looked to Barbara, Tabitha and Selina and gave them a nod. The three women then drove away.

"Come on let's go," Sofia said, leading her son and they headed inside the GCPD.

"Wait here," Sofia told Leo, leaving him at one of the benches.

Sofia makes her way to Jim Gordon's office crying. Detective Harper tries to stop her telling her to wait, but Sofia is able to get past her.

"Jim!" Sofia cried.

"Sorry, Cap, I tried to stop her. I told her she had to wait," Harper informs him.

"It's okay, Detective. I've got it," Jim said closing the door, before turning his attention to Sofia, who was crying, "Sofia, what happened to you?"

"I underestimated Oswald," Sofia cries with tears streaming, "He found out we were plotting against him, and he-he just tried to kill me, Jim."

"He can't hurt you here," Jim assures her.

"If he finds out I'm alive, he will come after me, and he won't stop until I'm dead. And who knows what he'll do to Leo, he already tried to take him away," Sofia said hysterically, "You are the captain of the GCPD. Your men would follow you anywhere. Please, please, use the position I gave you and end this.

"What are you proposing I do?" Jim asked.

"You have an army... just take the fight to Penguin," Sofia insists with a shrug.

Jim stares at Sofia with furrow brow and nods a little. "So this was your plan," Jim realizes, "To start a war. You knew you didn't have the numbers to fight Penguin on your own, so you made me captain, knowing it would come to this, and I'd take him out for you."

"Your job is to stop criminals, Jim... here you go," Sofia responds.

"It is not that simple, and you know it," Jim remarks.

'We could bring law and order back to Gotham," Sofia insists, "This is exactly what you asked for when you came down South, and it is yours for the taking. You know what has to be done, Jim. Crush Penguin."

Jim gives her a look of consideration.

A little later, Jim visits the Iceberg Lounge to talk to Penguin. He arrived in time to hear Penguin discuss his plans with Victor Zsaz.

"We are going to unleash a crime wave on this city like it has never seen," Penguin says, "That will teach Jim Gordon to align himself with Sofia Falcone."

"I wouldn't make that call if I were you," Jim said making his presence known, "I just spoke with Sofia. She's alive, and she told me you tried to kill her."

"Hearsay, Jim," Penguin says smiling, "Been here all day. I have witnesses."

"I don't care. I'm not here to arrest you," Jim informs him, "I came to make a deal. I think we've both put up with Sofia long enough."

"Victor, would you give us a moment?" Oswald asks. After Victor leaves, Oswald says, "Okay, Jim, you have my attention."

"Since the moment she set foot in Gotham, Sofia has put us on a path to war," Jim remarks, "She's willing to let this city burn to the ground to prove herself to her father. I can't allow that." "So what do you want from me?" Penguin asked.

"I'm putting her and her son on a train home tonight," Jim informs Oswald, "But I need assurances from you you won't get involved.

Penguin laughs, "Not good enough! She needs to suffer for what she has done."

"That is not gonna happen!" Jim cries out.

"And how do you think your girlfriend's gonna react when she realizes you betrayed her?" Penguin remarks, "You think she's just gonna run away quietly?" Oswald's voice was laced with sarcasm.

"If she sets foot in Gotham again, I'll put her behind bars," Jim assures him.

"And if I say no?" Penguin asks.

"Then I'll have no choice but to use the full force of the GCPD to tear you apart, piece... by... piece," Jim promises.

"That does not sound very pleasant," Oswald said grimacing.

"It won't be," Jim promises.

"I guess I can put aside my personal feelings for the good of this city," Penguin decides. "But I do have one question for you, Jim. Once Sofia is gone... where does that leave us?"

"No more licenses. If you or any other criminal in this city break the law, my men will enforce it. But at least you won't have to worry about Sofia again. So... do we have a deal?" Jim asks offering Penguin his hand.

Penguin glances at Gordon's hand. "After all we have been through together, Jim, it is nice that we can resolve this matter with diplomacy," Penguin said and takes Jim's hand.

Jim starts heading out until Penguin stops him, "One more thing."

Jim stops and looks back at Penguin.

"Just out of curiosity how do you plan on telling Harvey Dent that you're basically taking his son away from him," Penguin asked with slight amusement.

Jim frowns grimly knowing that Harvey won't take the news well at all. But Jim also knows that taking Leo away from Sofia isn't as simple.
