Sonic and Tails arrived in Puerto Rico late in the afternoon. Of course, they had to make a quick pit stop in Mexico to fill up on gas. By chance, they landed in an avocado orchard and almost got their heads blown off by an angry avocado farmer. But luckily they were able to settle things. Despite the language barrier.

Sonic and Tails knew very little Spanish. So this would be a problem for them in Puerto Rico. Although not as much as you might think, since the majority of the population speaks English as well. At least, that's what Google tells me.

Anyway, Sonic and Tails had no solid game plan to find Shadow in Puerto Rico. They figured they would see if they could find any top-secret, heavily-guarded facilities, and try to invade them. The main island of Puerto Rico was only so big. So they would have to find the laboratory pretty quickly, considering Sonic's speed. But Sonic had a better idea.

"Tails!" said Sonic, stretching his arms out after waking up from his nap as they were about to land on the coast, "Why don't we do a quick flyover?" That way we can check the area for any suspicious-looking buildings?"

"Good idea!" said Tails.

So the two flew around the perimeter of the island. But they didn't see anything unusual. There seemed to be no secret laboratories. Or at least, no above-ground secret laboratories.

"You think it's another trap?" asked Sonic.

"Who knows…" said Tails, "But I need to land soon. I'm pretty tired from flying all day. Besides, the sun is about to set."

"Fine," said Sonic, disappointed that they weren't able to find any leads, "Where are we going to be staying anyway?"

"The San Juan Mariott," said Tails, "I'm a platinum member."

"I wasn't aware you traveled so much, Tails!" said Sonic.

"Yeah, well…" said Tails, "When you're one of the country's top airplane mechanics, you get a lot of calls from all over the place."

"Why don't they just fly the airplanes to you?" said Sonic.

"…"

"What?" said Sonic.

"Think very carefully about what you just said," said Tails.

And then it dawned on Sonic and he felt like an idiot.

It took them about fifteen minutes to fly to San Juan. Of course, Tails had to find somewhere to park his airplane. This was no easy task. It was a rather small airplane, though. So he dropped Sonic off to talk to the people at the counter of the Mariott to see if they could park it on their roof. They were paying customers, after all.

The employees at the counter were completely unphased by the fact that Sonic was a talking blue hedgehog. And their English was impeccable. So they agreed to let Sonic and Tails park the airplane on the roof. For a small fee, of course. And Sonic had to sign a waiver saying Mariott wouldn't be responsible for any losses incurred. Meaning, if the airplane went missing, it wouldn't be their fault.

With that, they checked into their room. Sonic waited for Tails to fall asleep. When in Rome, you do as the Romans. And when in Puerto Rico, you do as the Puerto Ricans and drink Bacardí. So Sonic snuck out to the hotel bar and chugged a whole bottle of Bacardí.
