The flight was almost two-thirds of a standard earth day, filled with brief a very worried Mister Caryle and his military aide, Colonel Fitzhugh, as well as information Tarvek had expected. The 'Invaders' had started deploying large, city-sized, vessels from their Mothership, and were currently beginning to descend into the atmosphere as the plane landed. Mid-air refuelling had, supposedly, allowed rapid arrival at what was some sort of secret military facility…though the flights of aerial fighters flying overhead was rather visible in the orc pathfinder's opinion. Those were loud and visible above Tarvek as he, in his human 'form' descended a stairs from the jet that had just landed, Janet walking warily behind him.
'Large armed contingent as expected. No heavy weapons in immediate range' Tarvek noted to himself, surveying quickly the forces arrayed before them. His Compass was ready to activate in an emergency, a nearby dimension's earth already prepared…just in case. Janet was linked, but he had detected limited lies so far from the native humans, so it was unlikely they'd betray right now. Not when the invasion was underway, and every effort they made at communication with their vessels ignored. They were…crude…as a species when it came to this as best Tarvek could tell from their internal transmission.
From their absolute faith they had this won already, to seeing this more as an extermination than a war. Even down to how they seemed to be fighting this battle without orbital fire support. There were a number of large aircraft landed here actually, giving the runways an 'overrun' sort of feeling as the desert winds blew over the ground. Looking to the distance saw what he judged to be anti-aircraft system being hurriedly established, along with communication systems…
'Why here then' he wondered, as while it was secret, and away from the chaos and riots consuming many human cities, it also clearly wasn't an expected 'secret' command and control facility. Not with the clear signs of reinforcements being hurried into place after…almost a whole day 'Nor is a hidden facility from orbit, or ideal to prevent an escape'
"Minister Caryle" a local military officer was greeting the head of the 'delegation', though eyes were watchful of Tarvek, clearly identify those that knew who, or rather what, he was "The President is aware of your delegation's arrival, please follow me. He will meet us at the entrance to the facility"
"Do we follow?" Janet murmured softly to him. Tarvek could only nod.
"Indeed" What choice was there unless they wanted to flee?
"This is, the…"
"Ah, yes"
Tarvek ignored the brief exchange below, as well as disbelieving glances in his and Janet's direction as he strode forward, escorted by the two armed 'Australian' soldiers and now a further grouping of 'Americans' as it seemed the majority were unaware at least. There wasn't at least a legionary divisions worth of, likely two, soldiers here with support equipment. With even more jets flying overhead as Tarvek walked across the runway towards where a hanger-entrance was, along with tables being setup and bodyguard soldiers in suits pretending not to be bodyguard-soldiers in suits. Clearly his presence was putting them on edge as he neared, his suit's HUD identifying concealed weapons as he and Janet neared, allowing their 'host' to move ahead, introducing them as a gabble of sycophants and their ruler emerged from within. That was…
Interrupted by a crazy-eyed human male in a white jacket almost running ahead of his leader, yet also not, crazy eyes on Tarvek, hands clapping together "This is the…how does it work? You have armour and where is the weight transferred to when you…"
"Doctor Okun" the man's leader said-growled, as the crazy figure hesitated "If you would please allow us to greet our visitors"
"Ah" the man replied retreating warily, but eyes greedily starring at Tarvek like a good meat roast coated in sauce to Tarvek's eyes "Of course Mister President"
"The weight is temporally and temporarily shunted to a pocket dimension to answer your question in relation to the disguise feature. It is energy intensive, but seemingly, unfortunately, necessary" Tarvek opted for as a reply, coming to a stop as Janet glanced at him "I am Tav, Mr. President, as Mr. Caryle has briefed. Time is against us, so I shall begin answer questions if you so desire? There is limited time for….small-talk, yes?"
There was a round of looks between the humans, but only their ruler mattered, and he nodded after a moment and a silent exchange with a female official who checked a document in her hands "That is true. Walk with me, this facility was….unknown till now, but has systems that will help us. Please understand the level of trust being given to you"
"And understand the level of trust we have put in your good faith. Then it is good that this facility is of aid then, for the invaders are coming" Tarvek answered with a nod, scans showing no recording equipment within immediate range so far, beyond security cameras with no audio signs "Then, to show more of that. What we did not reveal was our nature as dimensional travellers, as I have briefed Mr. Caryle, hence the nature of my disguise system as you would call it. And Doctor Fraiser's here being human. Revealing such knowledge to these invaders is avoided for anything vaguely technical"
"Dimensional, you mean…"
"Parallel worlds, in this case Earths" Tarvek pushed onwards, explaining the details to the immediate circle of high officials "My subordinate here is from a parallel earth, where the ring-portal device called the Stargate had been in operation by her earth's humanity. One needs to state this, clearly, as it the reason for my, limited, access to this invading species systems, and having a detailed breakdown of their language despite never having encountered them before"
It was a lot to take in, but the human ruler seemed to press on without understanding, seeking it "Other earths? Then….they were attacking your…her…earth?"
"No, in her dimension they were a species known as the Asgard, and engaged in indirect uplift and protectorate system with her Earth's humanity" Tarvek explained simply "Clearly, these are not that polity, likely due to some point of divergence unknown to us in the distant past. Such situations are not uncommon, and it is not unheard of for such radical change in outlook to occur in a species. Your own recent history has many earths with unpleasant such situations that my people have encountered. Such as the Council of Hitlers…"
"The Council of…" the old military officer beside the human ruler started to splutter…
Tarvek made a hand gesture "There is no time. This can be detailed later. But multiversal travel has seen radical shifts in paradigms such as this between seemingly similar dimensions. Beneficially, in this situation, these not-Asgard, or Harvesting People as they seem to view themselves, are far less technologically advanced than the Asgard of my subordinates dimension. Because of this we can provide an intact translation matrix, as well as learning system program of the Asgard that should enable access to the attackers' systems, not just comms networks, provided you have sufficient processing capacity. That is our offer for support in the face of these invaders. Believe us or not. But the access can be given, and must be used. For the attack will be unstoppable otherwise I suspect"
That earned silence, then whispers and confusion, but Tarvek kept his focus on the ruler as Mister Caryle nodded, handing over written notes from the flight, and confirmation of what Tarvek showed him. Nothing that would hint at *how* to breach dimensions of course, but it had to be done, even if they didn't believe him in the short-term. Assuming they survived, then such truths might give access to greater resources by opting for truth in the hows and whys. There was also the fact if this world was to be a bridging location in the future…then having friends in power would be a very useful thing to have.
Unfortunately that was still a less likely outcome than desired, but accessing the not-Asgard's systems, along with their strangely arrogant invasion methods, might yield a chance for victory. Atomics backing up massed aerial assaults might be feasible if system corruption could be inserted into their not-Asgard systems sufficient to degrade their technological superiority. If he could convince the natives to throw their own efforts, on a large scale, into the matter, then his own anti-tech efforts might be insertable without detection to cause damage….or at least think of something. It was the best option so far, as the not-Asgard were psionic, and that route was out, just as direct challenges. Well, beyond the likely mass atomic attack he expected to be thrown at them in the coming hours before anything else…
