Mirabel Cuts the Bully

Pre-movie, set post-Mirabel's gift ceremony. Mirabel, following her failed gift ceremony from 5 years ago, has been bullied by a snooty girl named Petunia. But when Petunia's bullying goes too far, Mirabel takes action to stop her. Needless to say, the result doesn't end well. Has blood.

[i do not and never ever will Own Encanto. My oc Petunia is to me and me alone.]

Mirabel Madrigal had been set, like all her family members before her, to get a gift to help her family.

But just as she was about to receive her gift, her door just up and vanished.

She didn't get her gift.

Nobody could explain why.

But her life soon changed ever since.

It was 5 years since Mirabel's gift ceremony.

Mirabel was now 10 years old, and kind of viewed as the odd one out in her own family, since she was the only born Madrigal without a gift of her own.

She now had to stay in the nursery, since she didn't have her room.

And her abuela turned cold and harsh on her.

Her own family didn't even have much time for her as she grew.

That, technically, wasn't the worst of it.

Well, to be honest, 'worse' is a relative word.

Only a few days had passed since her 10th birthday, and Mirabel was just strolling along the Encanto, marveling in the sunny sunshine, trying to put the memories of her failed gift ceremony out of her mind.

Suddenly, her marvels and happy thoughts were rudely interrupted.

"Well, if it isn't the jinx of the Madrigals," said a voice similar to Chloe Bourgeois from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.

Mirabel just so happened to turn, and there she saw a girl with puffy brown hair, done up in a dark indigo bow, wearing a prim blue patchwork dress, and neat black shoes, staring at her with a nasty smirk on her face.

"Petunia..." she said, shocked.

Petunia was one of the older girls in the village. And Mirabel remembered her.

She remembered hearing her oldest sister, Isabela, complain about her, cause she stated her flowers were pathetic, but she hid her emotions, and acted all snobby, to hide her true feelings.

And, ever since her gift ceremony had failed, Petunia had been bullying Mirabel as she grew up without her gift. She often threw overripe fruit from the fruit stands at her, kicked her in the backside and knocked her to the floor, pinched her in the arm, and even slapped her in the face.

She even called Mirabel hurtful swear words behind her back, words that not even Camilo or Dolores were allowed to hear.

Half the time Mirabel had to sneak some of her mother's healing foods to heal up her injuries, and when the family asked each other how their days went, Mirabel never told any of them about the bullying, knowing that if her mama, papa, or Tio Felix, or Tia Pepa got involved, her Abuela would give them a stern talking to.

Luckily, the stinging from the slaps cooled down after a while.

Now, back to the main point of the story.

"What do you want, Petunia?" Mirabel said crossly.

"Is it not obvious?" Petunia said, "I'm here to give you an ultimatum."

"For what?" Mirabel immediately regretted asking, when she saw the smirk on Petunia's face grow.

"That you leave the Encanto before your newest cousin is born." Petunia said.

Mirabel was gobsmacked at such an idea. "Give me one good reason." she said, standing her ground.

"Because," Petunia said, whilst directing her to Casita, "I believe that one day, your pathetic magical house you call home will one day crumble to nothing but rubble, and you will be the cause of it."

"That's not true." Mirabel said angrily to Petunia.

"Excuse me?" said Petunia, looking shocked, and angry, to say the least.

"You heard me." Mirabel said. "Gift or no gift, I'm as special to this family as anyone. Sadly, you're not in this family, so you wouldn't know half of it."

"Oh, espara," she added jokingly, "you don't have a gift like me, so you're not special to mi Familia."

That , sorry to say, made Petunia mad. So, She slapped Mirabel hard in the face, and pushed her down to the ground.

"You, Mirabel, are so lame." Petunia said, "And you'll always be lame; especially with your pathetic family."

As Mirabel sat watching Petunia walk away, she was feeling mad, and getting madder still.

No one talked about her family to her like that. Her family were special, even those without gifts, and she didn't care for anyone who insulted her and/or her family.

"Petunia will PAY." she decided.

She got up, and marched up behind Petunia.

Then...

She pushed Petunia to the ground. Petunia saw her prim blue patchwork dress had just on it. She was mighty angry.

"Mirabel, you jerk!" Petunia shouted angrily. "Do you have any idea how long it took me to wash this dress?!"

"That's not what you should be worried about." said Mirabel angrily. "I have something I would like to give you. Personally."

"W-w-w-what is it?" Petunia asked shakily.

Mirabel whipped out a pair of scissors.

"Scissors?" Petunia said, baffled, "What are you gonna do with those?"

"You'll see." said Mirabel as she wielded the scissors, and carefully directed them towards Petunia's left hand, which she held in her other hand...

Later that day, Petunia's father was giving Alma, Julieta & Agustin a right earful for what Mirabel had done to Petunia, who was being comforted by her mom, who was just as angry as her husband, for what Mirabel had done for her daughter.

What Mirabel had done, you see, was that she had cut off 3 of Petunia's fingers from her left hand, and cut a huge gash in her right arm, and even cut her on the cheek, and cut her nose in the middle with the scissors. Blood had leaking from every cut and injury, when Mirabel's parents and Alma had heard Petunia's screams and cries, and arrived at the scene to see what had happened.

Julieta, with her gift of healing people via food, had managed to heal most of the cuts, but Petunia's fingers, were sadly, a lost cause, cause not many of Julieta's remedies could heal broken bones properly. Petunia would have a deformed hand for the rest of her life.

"I cannot believe you would let your mija do this to our mija!" Petunia's mom snapped. "Of all people! Your jinxed daughter hurting our poor sweet Petunia!"

"Lo siento, we are so sorry." said Agustin. "Technically, it wasn't all of Mirabel's fault, we-"

"No, no, no. I don't want to hear your apologies, okay?" Petunia's dad cut her off. "Now our mija's gonna have a deformed hand for life, and it's all her fault!" he added, pointing at Mirabel. "I swear, your mija's gonna cause our Encanto to crumble before long!" HE snapped at Julieta & Agustin. "Now leave us alone! ALL OF YOU! WE NEVER WANNA SEE ANY OF YOU OR YOUR MIJA AGAIN FOR AS LONG AS WE LIVE! Good day!" he shouted as he turned away, even going as far as spitting in Agustin's face.

Alma, Julieta & Agustin watched as Petunia and her parents walked away.

Alma glared at her granddaughter. She sighed. "I never thought I'd see the day when one of mi familia would hurt someone in our community." she said.

Julieta & Agustin were still baffled by what Petunia's dad had said before he left. "Mama, what did he mean when he said that my mija would cause our home to crumble-" Julieta asked Alma, who immediately cut her off.

"That is not important right now." Alma said sternly, "What matters now is that we deal with the issue at hand." She glared coldly at Mirabel, then turned to Mirabel's parents. "We will deal with this back at Casita." she said in a cold harsh emotionless tone. "Come on."

With that, Alma headed back to Casita, and Mirabel followed, followed closely by Julieta and Agustin. They were worried about how things were gonna go down at Casita.

The discussion at Casita didn't go well, to say the least.

Mirabel had gotten a real severe telling off from her abuela, sent to the nursery for the rest of the day, and, as a punishment, she was confined to Casita for a month, and banned from using scissors outside Casita.

Agustin & Julieta didn't shout at Mirabel; they just explained to her how disappointed and upset they were about what she'd done, and of how it could've hurt someone else.

Needless to say, for a while, Julieta had been stress-mixing, where she stirred a spoon in an empty bowl, and Agustin had paced around Casita, cursing to himself abut the incident over and over again - right till he tripped and fell down the stairs, twisting his ankle in the process. But an arepa from Julieta immediately healed his ankle.

Luckily, Felix and Pepa [who was pregnant with Antonio], who had heard the news, told them how they had heard Petunia bullying Mirabel ever since her gift ceremony had failed, and that Abuela had stopped them from interfering with matters such as bullying - their daughter Dolores had once been prone to bullying before.

"I guess Mirabel was right about being bullied. We thought she gets hurt a lot, but we never thought it'd start since her gift ceremony." Agustin said to Julieta, who nodded.

There were some good things about that incident, though.

From that day onwards, Petunia stayed as far away from Mirabel as she could.

And Alma made sure the Madrigals would never help Petunia or her family again.

Mirabel, of course, never had any issues with any other bullies in the village, cause they made sure to avoid her, lest they ended up with the same fate that Petunia got.

But for all Petunia's dad's talk of Mirabel being the one to ruin the Encanto, and Petunia's talk of Casita collapsing one day...

That still lingered in both Abuela Alma's and Mirabel's minds.

But would it happen?

COULD it happen?

Well...

That was a story for another time.
