"In technical terms are what are referred as planeswalkers, though that, in itself has a classification system that would take time to explain" Tarvek began, falling back on courses before the missions "But, in simple terms, it refers to those such as ourselves that, well, walk between different planes of existence. Such as this world, which was accessible from another world on a different plane of existence"
As the mage, Lady Proudmoore, merely nodded politely, sipping what might be a tea, or some hot brewed fruit beverage, Tarvek believed he was being asked who they represented most likely. Or for a further explanation of why and how they were here "There is no open portal, as it is currently closed and warded, and the reason that is so is because we are travellers, led by myself, as I am from a league of allied worlds, on several planes, or dimensions if one prefers to call them. We cannot supply our full allegiance for the same reason, but one is willing to undertake any true-binding or lie-detecting test with agreed upon questions if verification is required"
The human lady mage hummed, clearly in thought before she gave a small nod, holding her cup in hand "The offer is appreciated. You are hesitant to state your allegiances openly?"
"There are many powers out in the multiverse. Many are very unpleasant to deal with" Tarvek answered politely as he could "There is an element of trust required before such can be granted, much of which are oath-bound, or magically binding as you may see it, as my superiors would be very unhappy if I accidently gave knowledge away. Then if one of our worlds were raided in some manner resulting from such knowledge…well, one is oath-bound to prevent that"
"That…is less pleasant to hear" their host admitted "You are all from this nation?"
"No, merely oneself" he opted for the truth, in case there was a truthspeaker here, or the mage-lord had such a spell active "Jan here is from another plane, and we are aiding her return home in time, once a means is found to do so. May, is, ah, joining me in the future having rescued her from a dangerous place"
"Some sick fucks were abducting people to play murder games with. Me being one" Mayuko stated, and Tarvek resisted a sigh at her mouth "Course I was gonna stick with boss man here"
"May, language" he corrected her yet again, giving a firm look, before he sighed "But, yes, that is in essence correct. That place was one such plane where darker powers held sway. The whole plane a playground of madness and murder…May has chosen to remain with us as we travel. As to why here?"
He frowned "It is dimensionally active; it naturally drew our interest"
The mage-lord wasn't entirely happy with all that "The Dark Portal, and other events…"
She trailed off a few moments, frowning, before speaking again "While you have stated you cannot reveal the name of your masters, can you give forth the details of the nature of it. Our prior experiences with those not of Azeroth, and orcs too I'm sorry to say, have been less than friendly"
"That can be freely given, in that ours is an alliance of several worlds, organisations, and powers, that exist for mutual defence, knowledge sharing and control, along with trade and its management. Myself I serve a Trade House, founded by a half-orc Mage-Lord who aided in the enlightening the people of my world over a century and more past" Tarvek clarified easily, hopefully pointing some native unease aside "Humans invaded in the distant past and we warred upon each other, so your concerns are understandable, but we, nor my superiors, bear no hostile intent towards this dimension or your people. Beyond perhaps wishing trade or knowledge in the future"
"Hmm, that is a better sounding tale" came back alongside a faint smile "And your companions, here?"
"Both are from human only worlds" he answered immediately, Janet nodding for emphasis, Mayuko shrugging as continued "Many worlds of the league are human dominant, as well as some orc, and another species, who are insectoid in nature. Though we do have elves and gnomes, even a few dragons"
"Yes, dragons" she looked serious at him "Back to that, disguised as a gnome and elf. Then attacking you, before vanishing. After your…anti-teleportation device?"
"It is a dimensional anchor, and, yes it does seek to prevent such things as teleportation and summoning. I would speculate, and this is only speculation, that the deployment banished to…where they actually were. In that they were not truly, or fully, present in the city but were partly teleporting or transposed to the city. Then pushed back there by the deployment"
Tarvek paused, drawing on lessons from an actual ancient and wise dragon "As to why they were disguised? Well, spying possibly while seeking us out. Usually dragons love to disguise themselves as mortal races so they go around having sex with them. They love going around as fake mortals, usually mages when they aren't very competent in hiding their magic, so they go around bedding them. Wherever you find a dragon, you'll often find sorcerors within a generation!"
Then shrugged as the mage-lord frowned at him, or was confused, raising an eyebrow "Though, this was likely to try find us with minimal fuss, but dragons are often culturally different upon different. Even if they are usually more consistent than orcs and humans their culture does vary. So, one cannot speculate as we do not know why they attacked us, save they used time magics when they did"
"You are being truthful, so much as I can gather" she said after a few moments' consideration, placing down her cup and plate on a side table, folding hands together on her knee "I…shall confirm with trusted sources about dragons, ah, cultural choices on Azeroth and discuss that later with you, my guests. The fact you were secretly within my city…"
She frowned, sighing "Well, it was less than helpful in showing good faith, but I can understand why an orc warrior, different though you may be than others, would do so. The fact that you stood in defence of my city, which broke your disguises, leading to your attacks….well, be assured you are my guests, and shall be given every protection. Answers I shall seek, they shall be given to you if I could persuade you to stay a time. Even if just for your protection. Or if we can aid you in some manner perhaps?"
Tarvek was sorely tempted to leave…but, even after the attack, this dimension offered such a high reward versus the risk that he decided to take such. A patron might be, such as this Mage-Lord, might not be such a bad idea to try work with "We seek knowledge, and can trade knowledge or other services, if need be, in exchange for such fair trade"
"It seems I was correct in calling you Sir Knight earlier, though you are more scholarly than I would have expected" the mage-lord smile, emitting an almost tired laugh "Or are you a paladin, wielding the Light so?"
"I am a cleric of my lord, a racial deity of orcs…and humans"
"Yup!" Mayuko interjected happily, or just bored "Boss here is a proper priest! Smiting evil, rescuing damsels, like me! He even has a shrine and holy book he tells…"
"May" he murmured with exasperation "Let us not have a religious dispute if we can avoid it"
"Tis not wrong for her to have pride in you Sir Priest" the mage-lord said with a faint smile "Still, perhaps such discussions are best reserved for after we are rested, and the city is no longer under threat. I do fear that this may just be a lull before another such attack. For Ar…the Lich King to return, and attack in such an open and bold manner as this! Hm, well, I must thank you for your help in defending the city, and I assure you that effort will be rewarded"
"We thank thee, though I suspect we best not return to the Inn"
She chuckled at Tarvek's words "Perhaps not as yet, but there are guest rooms here, sized so an orc would be comfortable in them. They were not used, but they were prepared with adequate bedding for a conference we had hoped would continue longer. But they would serve thee well, and you shall be allowed leave whenever you wish of course. I would just request not to return to the Inn, or leave the city, as your aid, and knowledge, will be needed in coming days when time to discuss will be freer for myself and my advisors"
"Thank you, and we understand, your city has been attacked and yet more dangers could lurk beyond. Your hospitality is most acceptable to us, and we shall, within reason and oaths, answer thy questions" Tarvek paused, nodding "And my blade is at your service in defence of this place as thy guest"
"You are most kind, than you Sir Tav" she let out a sigh, a tired one, a concerned one perhaps "Your offer is most acceptable, and you shall have ours. But, for now, I fear it might be best to retire for the night and have my maids here show you to your rooms…"
"Room" Mayuko stated firmly, arms across her chest "Singular. We stay with boss"
Janet winced, sighing "Ah…yes, that is probably best"
"Room, as you say. Please, if you require any meals or wine, please just ask my servants. I merely ask you inform us of any plans to leave or move within the city to my guards" the magel-lord clarified, seeming to have accept their explanations. For now at least…
