New islands, new dragons
Hiccups POV:
I was at my dock studying my ships since I'm planning to go on an expedition soon to find new dragons that have been mentioned in the dragon eye. It has been a while since I last went on an exploration to the islands the dragon eye has been showing since I've been so busy lately and I was hoping to find more dragons to bring back with me but one can only hope!
9 days later
I had just finished preparing the ship for my exploration. The ship I had chosen was the former dragon hunting ship which I now had repurposed for long dragon training and collecting explorations since I planned to be gone a while. The ship was stocked with fresh water and plenty of boar jerky for food, a few weapons should I need to fight including some of my special arrows. I had also taken the liberty of drawing up maps that the dragon eye had so I had the maps to different islands I planned to explore but wouldn't put the dragon eye at risk should I run into trouble. As for suits of armor I had my battle armor, hunting armor, regular armor, flying armor and my boating armor. I had also taken the liberty of installing two of my new spyglass two's with one on each side of the deck allowing me to keep an eye out for trouble. The Dragons accompanying me on this trip were Toothless since he refused to let me leave without him and Scaulder who was pulling my ship of course while the others stayed back to handle things here. On the animal team was Ikan since I felt he needed to get out of his cage more, Ah Tabai and Maya since they've spent most of their lives in the cave and I felt they needed to know there's more to the world than just one island. The reason I wanted to keep the dragon team small was because my ship could only hold six dragons on the inside and I wanted to have the room should we discover any new ones for me to train and bring back. I turned to my dragons and animals before I said.
"We'll be back in a few days guys try not to destroy the place while we're gone!" They all roared/barked/growled/screeched their goodbyes before I boarded the ship and we were off to explore some of the new locations the dragon eye held.
It has been two days since we set sail and I'd say things were going well. I was at the front of my ship, wearing my sailing armor, smiling as I felt the salty sea air blow into my face as the sounds of the waves crashing against my ship filled my ears with my two jaguars at my side. I admired the vast ocean in front of me wondering what was out there and waiting for us to discover. I decided I should go below deck and check out one of the maps the dragon eye had that lead to the first island I was checking out so I could see if we were on the right course. When I went down I passed many of the empty rooms which used to be dragon bone filled cells but stopped at the last two and looked inside the one on the right smiling at Toothless who was fast asleep on the stone at the back against the wall. I rolled my eyes at him before continuing into my quarters where Ikan was sleeping on his perch. I had left the maps to the islands on the bookshelf but kept the map to the first island open on my desk. I went over it remembering there's supposed to be a beach which according to the notes I got from the dragon eye has a dragon which buries itself in the sand waiting for prey. After five minutes, I said.
"Wonder what we'll find on this island!" I then left the room hoping to continue to enjoy the majestic beauty of the ocean.
2 hours later
I smiled at what I saw up ahead of the ship. It was the island we've been traveling to and it looked gorgeous from this distance and I couldn't wait to explore it. After it came into sight I changed out of my sailing armor into my regular armor and after that it wasn't long before we docked the ship and we were able to hop onto the dry land. I landed easily and felt my feet hit the sand but it was a little difficult to land on since the sand was soft so it was a bit slippery. I looked at the beach and saw nothing but sand with a couple of rocks coming out from time to time before I turned to the island and saw nothing but dense forest. I felt a slight pressure on my shoulder and smiled knowing it was Ikan who cawed after he landed on my shoulder followed by the sound of Toothless landing on the sand but then I heard Toothless start growling at something. I turned to him and asked.
"What's up bud?"
He nudged his heads towards the sand a few feet away from us. I turned to look at it but didn't see anything unusual but then when I took a closer look I realized the sand was shifting on its own. I slowly approached it but Toothless cut me off as if trying to tell me to stay back. I was about to tell him to move but I was cut off by a loud screech from the sand as a dragon hopped out and tackled Toothless who immediately roared in aggression. I felt Ikan take off my shoulder in surprise at the appearance of the dragon and heard the jaguar's roar in fright from the ship. It was then I saw Scaulder was getting ready to fire his Scalding hot water blast but I ran in front of him yelling.
"NO YOU MIGHT HIT TOOTHLESS!"
He swallowed the water back down before I did one of the craziest things I could have done in this type of situation. I ran right at the two and tackled the dragon off Toothless before taking some dragon nip I kept in the satchel for emergencies and rubbed it right in the dragons' face. In a few seconds, it was nothing but a puddle of purrs. I smiled and said.
"See now? We're not here to fight! We're here to make friends!"
I got off the dragons' belly as it rolled over and stared at me with gentle curiosity now. I was able to get a look at the dragon now and saw it to be like a bright sand brown colored and spikier version of a nightfury with a smaller secondary pair of wings behind the first pair and a flatter more pointed head. I then noticed the tail, which looked like it had two arrow-like shaped fins pointing in, and it appeared to have thicker spikes at the end of their tails, instead of sails like a nightfury. I slowly walked up to it but Toothless and Scaulder growled at it While Ikan cawed at me from the air as my jaguars stared from the ship but the growls were making it growl back. I held hand up in signal telling them to calm down. I slowly approached the dragon and said.
"Easy now! The last thing we want is a fight here!"
Its growls slowly came to a stop. I smiled and then held my hand out before turning my head to bond with the dragon. I waited a few moments before I felt the dry skin that felt almost like sand touch my palm. I smiled before turning my head to see the dragon pulling away staring at me. I smiled and gently scratched his nose making him purr before I rubbed my chin in thought saying.
"I know I've seen your species in the dragon eye somewhere but what was it your species is called?" I snapped my fingers. "Sand Wraith! That's what your species is called since you're known for burrowing under sand and waiting for unsuspecting prey!" He growled and nodded as if saying I am correct in my assumption. I patted him on the head before asking. "Anything you know that might be worthwhile around here?"
He tilted his head curiously before he scurried off with Toothless and me behind him while Ikan followed from the skies. After a few minutes of running the Sand Wraith stopped and started to burrow underground. Ikan perched himself on my should while Toothless and me looked down into the hole and waited a few seconds before the Sand Wraith came back up carrying a large jeweled chest. I looked it over and whistled saying.
"Wow now this is definitely worth while!" I looked at Toothless and said. "We've got to get this back to the ship for study bud!" He growled in understanding before I mounted him, had him picked up the chest and fly us back to the ship with the Sand Wraith following us.
When we arrived back on the ship Toothless set the chest down on the deck for me to study followed by the Sand Wraith landing on deck. I smiled at him and gave him a pat on the head as I said. "Thanks for getting this for us big guy. Now what should we name you? How's about we name you Dune like sand dunes since your kind clearly like the sand."
He growled in approval at his new name. I smiled before walking over to the chest and dusted sand off the lock only to find it looked like a skull with the keyhole being the mouth and an inscription on the top. Fortunately, I was able to read the inscription and gasped at the name written on it. The name was Blood Bath Ben! When I was a kid and my dad was working late and by that, I mean partying with friends at the great hall Gobber would look after me and he used to sit me down on his knee and tell me stories about Blood Bath Ben to scare me. Apparently, he was a pirate who loved only three things, which were treasure, bloody battles. He was known to run hard in to battle never giving his victims quick deaths and making their deaths slow and painful then covering himself in their blood while laughing. Eventually he was captured and put to death for his crimes but his treasure was never found. Until now that is! I smiled before taking out a dagger and began picking the lock easily while thinking.
"You'd think a pirate known for his love of treasure would be able to make a better protected chest to hold his treasure!"
As soon as I said that I heard a click signaling the chest was unlocked. As soon as I started to open it though I saw that there seemed to be cranks on the lids insides. I decided I better be careful of this and stepped back taking out my sword and unfolding my shield. I turned to my dragons and jaguars as I said.
"Stand back guys! It looks like this thing may be booby-trapped!"
I hid behind my shield and used my sword to open the chest and it's a good thing I had because the second the chest was open three miniature metal arrows launched out at me before the blades popped out from the chests inside making the chest appear to have teeth before it snapped shut fast and probably with enough force to snap a person's hand off! I looked at the gang and said. "Okay we better make sure it runs out of arrows before we fully open it. They nodded before I proceeded to disarm the chest.
1 hour later
The chest has finally been disarmed so now I could finally see its contents! To my surprise there was more than just treasure in the chest. There were also two books along with tons of gold, jewels and jewelry but there was one thing that brought the biggest smile to my face. It was one of the bells of Frey which meant I only needed to find three more and the set would be complete allowing me to find and awaken the foreverwing. I held it up to the sun and smiled and said.
"One step closer to finding another Alpha dragon." I took it downstairs into my quarters so I could study it later tonight because for now we're anchoring on this island so I could get an idea of what wildlife and plants are on the island!
Nightfall
Things seemed pretty average on the island. Just the standard plants and animals you'd find anywhere else but on the Brightside, there were plenty of wild boars so I was able to do some hunting for dinner. I also named the beach we stopped at. I named it 'Burned toe beach' since the sun heats the sand to the point that it burns your bare feet. A fact I learned from experience, which resulted in me running and jumping into the ocean to cool off my feet. I've also been studying Dune and learnt that he can bury himself for hours on end, for fire power he uses hardened balls of sand with a weak flame but it is sure to have a mean and if targeted at the right place lethal punch.
I was now sitting in front of a fire on the beach with my dragons, jaguars and Ikan with a boar roasting over the flames. I lay back against the sand admiring the stars and it was at that moment a shooting star streaked across the sky. I closed my eyes and made my wish that was that my life could always be like this which is relaxed, exciting, fun and most of all free. I didn't have a life like this in the village since there it was painful, boring, embarrassing and most of all like I was a prisoner. I frowned at those memories but then smiled at what I have now like my dragons, my animals, my homes both on Berk and in the Mayan city but most importantly I have my freedom to do what I wish whenever I wish to do it. I wondered if anything interesting would happen tomorrow.
Next day
We were back on the ocean sailing to another island in search of new dragons. Toothless was up top with me, Dune was down in a nest resting, Ikan was down in my quarters napping on his perch while my jaguars were laying down on deck napping. I was looking through one of my spyglass twos and was searching the horizon for any piece of land. What I was looking for wasn't exactly an island but more a fragmented cluster of small isles. The dragon eye called this place 'The Little Isles' and apparently, it used to be one big island but some type of dragon species called Thunderpedes destroyed large chunks of it! I'm hoping to find a thunderpede to train and take back with me because we could use the muscle back at the layer. I knew that a thunderpede probably won't be easy to train but if I succeeded I'd have a new dragon and more muscle at my lair to help with the heavy lifting. It was then Toothless let out a roar bringing me out of my thoughts. I turned to him and asked. "What is it bud?" He nudged his head in a direction to which I turned my head and saw something in the distance. I ran over to one of my spy glass two's and looked in the direction Toothless was pointing in. I smiled at the sight-seeing small rocky terrain covered isles in the distance while saying.
"Those must be the little isles!" I ran up to the head of the ship and yelled to Scaulder. "HEAD TO THOSE ISLES SCAULDER!" He growled in understanding before turning to the isles.
We reached the Isles 10 minutes later. After I had Scaulder dock the ship I hopped off with Dune and Toothless following me but had Ikan and my jaguars stay since a thunderpede might hurt them and that's the last thing I want. I turned to Scaulder and said. "Look out for any trouble big guy!" He growled and nodded in response before I turned around and took a look around at the area. It was a small beach with some rocks sticking out with a large forest in behind it. I looked at Toothless and Dune before saying. "Well boys let's get going!" They just growled and followed me into the forest.
2 hours later
Turns out these Isles are a lot smaller than I originally thought, as I had been able to explore the entire land of three of the isles since we arrived but found no Thunderpedes. We were currently exploring one of the isles, which had a rockier terrain and I was hoping to find a Thunderpede here since they fall under boulder class. We were passing through a small-forested area on the isle when I heard something like multiple hammers being hitting against rocks. Curiosity got the better of me so I we headed in the direction of the sound.
When we arrived, we found a large rocky landscape full of large boulders. It was then the sound started up again so I continued to follow it and when I reached it my jaw dropped! Just a few feet away from me was a large dragon with a creamy scaled underbelly and a crimson scales on the back. Its body structure reminded me a bit of a mythical creature I read about called centaurs, which are half horse and half man. The dragon also had six dark navy blue legs that were small and scrawny but also had two red-scaled arms that looked strong which they proved to be when the dragon proceeded to use them to turn a large boulder into rubble in mere seconds, a red scaled back and top head with grey underbelly and chest. As soon as it was done I watched as it let out a roar and proceeded to beat its chest. I smiled and said to myself.
"Thunderpede!"
That was probably a mistake considering as soon as I did it turned to me and glared right before it started to charge at me with its fists raised ready to come down on me. Fortunately, Toothless and Dune pulled me out of the way as it brought its fists down only to make a large dent in the ground where I was just standing. I took the chance to quickly reach into Toothless' saddlebag and pull out a salmon I was saving for lunch and as soon as the thunderpede looked back at me I tossed the fish at it. The thunderpede caught the fish before holding it up to its nose and sniffing it. It then proceeded to toss it into its mouth and eat it happily. I smiled at it before I slowly approached it with Toothless and Dune following at my side. When the thunderpede swallowed, it looked at us with now mild curiosity and probably a desire for more fish. I smiled at him and said.
"Easy big guy I know what you want."
I went back to my saddlebag and pulled out another fish but this time I walked up to the dragon and handed the fish to it. It took it and chomped it down before it looked at me with curiosity instead of the suspicion its gaze once held. I smiled at him before I turned my head and held my hand out. Seconds later I felt my hand being sniffed before I felt a scaly muzzle being gently pushed against the palm of it. I smiled as I turned my head and saw the Thunderpedes muzzle resting against my hand before it opened its eyes and pulled back before I said.
"I guess this means you're going to need a name now! How about Rubble since you can reduce large boulders to rubble with those strong arms of yours." He growled in approval before he leaned back and roared while beating his chest as I chuckled. "Welcome to the group Rubble!" We spent the rest of the day exploring and mapping out the rest of the little isles.
Two days later
We were once again on the sea and it has been two days since we left the Little Isles. Since then I'd say Ruble has settled in nicely with the other dragons, my jaguars, Ikan and in his temporary den in the lower deck. I was up on the top deck with my eyes shut as I enjoyed the salty sea air blast through my hair and into my face. I did enjoy it, as I loved the feeling of the ocean since it just made me feel like the world was full of limitless opportunities just waiting for someone to find them. I still had enough room for three more dragons and was hoping to fill up that room with three new species. I had my eyes closed and was just enjoying the sounds of the ocean when I saw a small island in the distance and decided to check it out in the hopes there might be a new dragon species for me to find and train there. I had Scaulder turn in the islands direction and head towards it. As we got closer I could see a dense forest on its shores and I smiled because when there's a forest there's wildlife and when there's wild life there's normally dragons.
When we finally docked, I hopped off the ship with the team that was coming with me into the forest while the others kept an eye on the boat. On my team was Toothless, Maya, Ah Tabai and Ruble while Scaulder and Dune stayed behind to keep an eye on the boat and should trouble come they are to send Ikan to find him. We advanced into the dense woods hoping to find something worth taking back to the ship.
One hour later
We've been exploring these woods for an hour now and come up empty. Me, Toothless and Ruble stuck to the ground since the forest was too dense for us to fly without hitting a tree so while we were on the ground Maya and Ah Tabai kept an eye on things from the tree tops by climbing up the trees going to different trees using thick and strong branches which were plentiful to bridge the gaps but I kept an eye on them in case they fell. I was beginning to think we should give up when all of a sudden, my jaguars started roaring down at me. I knew this meant they had found something since I had trained them to signal me this way. I looked up towards them and yelled.
"WHAT IS IT GUYS?" They climbed down the trees they were on and sat in front of me before I kneeled. "Take us to what you saw."
They then got up and ran to what they saw with us close behind. When we got to the location they were leading us my eyes widened at what I saw. It was a dragon with Orange scales with brown stripes on a long body, neck and tail with six legs which each had sharp claws but the thing that stood out the most was the large bladed beak that resembled a hatchet which was currently stuck in a tree since it appeared to be trying to pull it out with little success. I read about this species in the dragon eye and I knew it was that dragon because the blade beak was a dead giveaway. It was a hackatoo dragon, which are supposed to be expert wood collectors as long as they didn't get their noses stuck in the tree like this guy did. We began to approach him but when we got close he glared at us and tried to swat us with his tail so I had Toothless pin it down to stop it. Once that was out of the way I walked up to it nice and slow with my hands out saying.
"Easy there big guy we don't want any trouble, we just want to help!"
It seemed to calm down at this before I gestured Ruble over to help pull the Hackatoos nose out. After a few strong but gentle pulls, as not to harm the hackatoo we were able to free it. Once it was free the hackatoo shook its head rapidly probably to help it recover from being pulled out of the tree. Once it stopped shaking its head it turned to me but instead of giving me a look of warning it gave me a look of curiosity. I smiled at it and said.
"See now we're not here to fight we want to be friends!"
I then went through the motions of removing my weapons and having my dragons stand back before looking away and holding my hand out. It wasn't long before I felt the scaly muzzle against my hand bringing a smile to my face before I turned to face the dragon allowing me to see it slowly pulling its muzzle away. I smiled at the dragon before I gave it a gentle scratch on the side of the head making it give out a pleasured purr. I chuckled at this before I pulled back and saw this Hackatoo to be male. I smiled and rubbed my chin as I gently rubbed the dragons head as I said.
"How about we name you Hatchet?" The newly named Hatchet purred in acceptance of the new name. We then left for the ship with Hatchet following us.
4 hours later
Everyone on the ship had gotten used to Hatchet and he had settled into his pen comfortably. In the time, we had been on the island I also had Hatchet show us around the island and was able to map out the island and what species of animals and plant it possesses. Mostly just regular forest plants and wild boar, which is good since it, got me lunch and a little extra food for tomorrows breakfast. I decided we'd remain docked for the night to give Scaulder some time to rest so we could continue exploring tomorrow which brings us to where we are now which is on the beach, around a campfire with a boar roasting over it, with my dragons enjoying some fish they caught earlier while my jaguars lay next to me on either side each chewing on two fishes and Ikan was on my shoulder waiting for the boar to be done cooking since it was also his dinner. As I watched the boar rotate over the fire I couldn't help but wonder what we'd find next on this trip. I've already have some ideas for jobs my new dragons like Dune searching the beaches for things that can be of use to me since he already helped with the treasure chest. Ruble can help move heavy equipment around and crush big boulders that are too big for Coal to eat. Hatchet can help out with wood collection, which will make collecting firewood for winter easier and quicker.
Morning the next day
We had just finished breakfast and were now back on the open sea on our way to a new island to find a new dragon. I was up on the top deck at the front breathing in the salty air and just losing myself in my thoughts. I kept wondering what was out there, who was out there, what would the gods throw at me next and was everything alright back at home. I kept thinking that maybe it would be best for me and my dragons if we disassembled our home and moved away from Berk but it just didn't feel right since Berk was the island I was born on and its village is where I was born and grew up in. Especially the forge in both cases since I spent most of my life being mentored there and my mom was yelling at both my dad and Gobber about making me an axe for when I first opened my eyes. She was so mad but that quickly when her water broke. Gobber told me it was the most terrifying and painful thing to ever happen in his shop since while my mom was giving birth to me Gobber had her hold his hand and she nearly broke every bone in it with her grip. I still remembered the first time he told me about the day I was born since it was also the day I received the talk about the birds and the bees from him which is another way he had been more of a father to me than my actual father. I shook my head at the memories of those days because I know I have to focus on the future.
4 hours later
I was on the top deck with Ikan on my shoulder looking through a spyglass two at an island we were approaching. By the looks of things this island was mostly dense forestry so I'd have a tough time finding my way around it but I've found my way around dense environments before so this wouldn't be that big a problem. When we finally docked, I had my jaguars and Ikan stay on the ship since the last thing I want is for them to get lost in the forest. On the team that was accompanying me this time is Toothless since he refuses to let me go in without him, Ruble since there might be some boulders that need moving and Hatchet since he'll help chop my way through the dense forest. After I said goodbye to the ones staying on the ship and telling them to keep an eye out for any trouble me and the ones coming with me began our long trip into the forest.
1 hour later
This forest is one of the densest I've seen in my life and due to this we had to chop our way through just to be able to walk three feet forward. We had yet to hear or see any dragons but if I ever needed a good place to start up a lumberyard so I'd be up to my neck in fresh wood for construction. I was already beginning to make plans for a lumberyard with wood storage, rotating saw blade, dragon wood collectors and much more! It was then I heard a crooning from somewhere. I turned to my dragons and saw none of them were doing it which made me all the more curious about what was crooning. We chopped our way through the dense forest before we arrived in a small clearing where a dragon I recognized as a Hobblegrunt was rolling around in a small patch of dragon nip. I could tell it was happy because its scales were currently yellow and according to the dragon eye this dragon had three colors which changed according to its mood earning it the nickname of the mood dragon. When their scales are yellow they're happy, when purple curious and when red RUN because they're angry and I know from personal experience you do not want to mess with an angry dragon! I signaled my dragons to stay back as I approached the hobblegrunt. It didn't take long for it to notice me since I was only a few feet into the clearing when it took notice of me and its color changed to purple. I slowly removed my weapons or anything that could be seen as a threat and continued towards the dragon who in turn walked closer to me. Once we were a few feet apart it raised the frill on its head. I read from the dragon eye that hobblegrunts are able to use the frills on their heads to read the emotions of any nearby dragons or humans. From that information, I knew that in order to train this dragon I need to show no fear and remain calm so it didn't see me as a threat allowing me to get close so I can get close enough to train it. As we slowly got closer I held my hands up as a gesture of piece before saying.
"Easy there I don't want any trouble! I want to be friends."
It raised the frill on its head a little higher before I slowly took a few more steps forward and held out my hand before turning my head away. After that it wasn't long before I felt scaly skin press against my hand. I turned and found the Hobblegrunt pressing its nose into my palm as its scales changed from purple to yellow showing its change of mood. I smiled and gave a little scratch to which I got a purr in return before I noticed this Hobblegrunt was female. I then rubbed my chin in thought and said.
"How about we name you Oracle because of your ability to predict future weather and the moods of different dragons and people!" She purred in acceptance of her new name before she began to nuzzle my chest. I smiled and rubbed her head gently. "Welcome to the team girl."
She just nuzzled my chest again to which I smiled before I signaled my other dragons to come out. She pulled her head away from my chest and raised her frill at them probably trying to get a read on them to see if they were friendly or not. I gently scratched the back of her neck behind her frill. This in turn made her croon in what I assume was comfort since she turned yellow and seemed to be leaning into my touch.
"Easy girl they're friends!" Hearing this she lowered the frill on her head before I signaled my dragons to come in closer for introductions. As they did Oracle hid her head behind me in what I assume was shyness so I gently said. "Easy girl we're all friends here!" This seemed to lure her out from behind me as my dragons approached us. Once they were all in front of us I did the introductions before we were on our way back to the ship.
When we got back I found my jaguars having a little brawl on the top deck. I was about to go in and break it up but Oracle beat me to it! She immediately got between the two and started gently vibrating his crown at them as she altered her color. I don't know why but seeing this I felt really calm all of a sudden and by the looks of things so did my jaguars. I realized that it was Oracle who was having this effect on us. I smiled and said.
"Now this is an ability that is definitely going to come in handy."
It was true since every now and then a fight would break out between my dragons or my animals and if I have to deal with the village I would need her to calm me down or I'd end up with bloody knuckles again. I spent an hour helping Oracle settle down with everyone and settle her into her pen. I had to assure her it was only temporary until we got home after finding a dragon to fill in the last pen. I already knew the next place we were heading to which is Shredstone Walls. This place was said to be made of the toughest stones in the whole archipelago but for some reason whenever someone tried to climb them they'd be crushed by falling debris. According to the dragon eye it was the work of a sharpclass dragon species called the razorwhip. From what I could tell this dragon brought a whole new meaning to the word deadly. It has a telescopic tail that can squeeze the life out of any Viking or dragon, or slice anything it comes in contact with to pieces, its fire can burn the flesh off a human from a hundred feet away and it's so dangerous that even the tears from its eyes are poisonous. A razorwhip won't be easy to catch since they're extremely agile and can maneuver incredibly well plus they're said to be very untrusting of both humans and other dragons. I was hoping we could turn one into a friend because this sounds like a dragon I would love to have on my side. With these thoughts in mind I set a course for Shredstone walls.
2 days later
I was once again out on top deck looking through one of my Spyglass two's looking up ahead at the island we were fast approaching. This island was island was full of cliffs and very few beaches for us to dock on and the cliffs were all made of the same hard black rock. This was the toughest stone in the archipelago as this was the stone that made the cliffs of Shredstone walls. I pulled away from the spyglass two and smiled as I said.
"We're finally here!" My dragons walked up to the side to see the island as Ikan flew onto the railing while my jaguars walked up to my sides. I yelled out to Scaulder to do a lap around the island so we could find a safe place to dock.
20 minutes later
We finally found a place to dock since the other beaches were too small, shallow, rocky or too full of sea slugs. For some reason this place was crawling with them so it made sense that the Razorwhips would inhabit this island since their diet did mostly consist of sea slugs. Once we docked I had Toothless, Ruble and Oracle accompany me and fly me up the cliffs so we could explore the island. Once we reached the top I looked around and found it consisted of a grassy terrain with more than a few boulders made of the same material as the cliffs sticking out of the ground. We walked advanced into the terrain and said.
"Keep an eye out guys! From what I've read these dragons are pretty tough." They growled in acknowledgment at my word before we continued to explore the area.
As we journeyed in deeper I noticed a lot of the trees had been cut down and the cuts were very smooth as if they were cut with just one swing from an incredibly sharp blade. The same could be said for some of the rocks surprisingly. I knew this was the work of a Razorwhip which could only mean we were getting close since the cuts looked fresh. We followed the trail of cut up trees and rocks for another five minutes before I heard what sounded like growls of pain. We walked towards the sound which lead us into a small valley and much to my excitement I saw a Razorwhip standing at the valleys end but it was rubbing the side of its head against one of the valley walls while growling. I had seen this before with some of my dragons so I knew it meant that this Razorwhip was suffering a toothache. I signaled my dragons to stay back so we wouldn't be seen as a threat as I took a step forward to try and get a closer look at it. When I got within ten feet the Razorwhip looked up and growled at me so I stopped with my hands held out in front of me and calmly said.
"Easy now we don't want a fight!"
Now that I was closer to it I could see this razorwhip was not too trusting of me since it was glaring at me which was the only warning I got before it breathed its blue flames at me which I was barely able to dodge but if I wasn't wearing my armor the hair on the front side of me would be singed right now. As the Razorwhip glared daggers at me I raised my arms and said.
"Easy now!"
I slowly walked around the Razorwhip but it swung its tail at me and I was glad I had good reflexes since I was able to dodge it but it was able to cut a few of the hairs on my head along with the wall behind me. After that it continued to glare at me with its big blue eyes until I heard a cracking sound followed by three boulders falling down from the wall that was struck. I was able to avoid them but due to the Razorwhips larger size and the narrow walls of the valley it was lucky enough to avoid two of them but the last one pinned its wing to the ground as it screeched in pain. I looked at the dragon in pity seeing it in such a state and I couldn't bear to see it in such pain. I slowly approached it but this time I pulled out a sea slug from my satchel and tossed it to the Razorwhip who looked at it cautiously and gave it a sniff before eating it only to roar in pain. I slowly approached it and said.
"Easy now I can help with the pain in your tooth and with the boulder but you have to trust me." It glared at me but lowered its head. I nodded before I signaled my dragons to come out but as soon as they did the Razorwhip lifted its head up and growled aggressively before Oracle walked forward and changed her colors calming it down. I smiled and said to Oracle. "Good work girl keep it up." She growled in understanding before I turned to Ruble and said. "Get that bolder off its wing!"
He growled in understanding before he proceeded to lift the bolder off the Razorwhips wing with a little difficulty. I have to remember to make him some weights for the lair so he can work out so that he'll have an easier time in the future when it comes to lifting heavy objects. Once the bolder was of the Razorwhip tried moving its wing but screeched in pain meaning it was broken. I knew that if it couldn't fly it would fall easy prey to wild animals or dragons so I decided I'd better help heal it but I'd need to get the Razorwhip to my ship first. I walked over to the Razorwhip and said.
"Easy now I want to help you with your wing but we need to get you back to my ship where I can tend to it so please just trust me for now okay?"
The Razorwhip gave a reluctant nod and glare before I had Ruble fetch the spare sail from my ship which we then used to Carry the Razorwhip to the ship (AN: Like how they carried Thornados friend at the end of How to pick your dragon)Once we set it down on the top deck I had Oracle keep an eye on it and keep it calm as I went to work building a splint for the Razorwhip.
Half an hour later
The splint was done and I have to say it looked good but it would take time for the wing to heal. I walked over to the razorwhips head and said.
"You'll need some rest but don't worry your wing will be fine." It simply looked down in annoyance as I said. "How's about in the meantime I help you with that Toothache of yours?"
It glared at me before Oracle did her calming color technique and it settled down enough for me to get it to open up its mouth so I could take a look. Once I was able to see the problem I saw it was one of the teeth on the top jaw and by the looks of things this tooth was pretty bad since it had a large hole in it that looked like it was almost completely all the way through. I knew it had to come out so I grabbed my tongs and used them to grab the tooth as I said.
"Okay this is going to hurt a little but it will be worth it."
I then pulled the tooth out quickly as the Razorwhip gave a small yelp of pain before settling down and licking the empty gum where the tooth was before purring happily and nuzzling my chest in thanks. I smiled and this was the first time I really got to look at it. This Razorwhip was female with stunning sapphire blue eyes and her scales were an almost silver metallic blue. I smiled at her as her scales reflected the suns light off them.
"You really are a beauty." She purred in appreciation of the compliment. We spent the rest of the day helping her settle down but I never trained her knowing she wasn't ready and probably wouldn't trust me till her wing was fully healed proving I was a friend.
Four days later
It's been four days since we docked here at Shredstone walls and we haven't moved since. The reason being I wanted the Razorwhip we've been looking after to feel safe and secure knowing we weren't forcing her away from her home. Over the past four days she seems to really has grown to like us from what I could tell and I've really grown to like her as has everyone else on the ship. Today however was the day we remove her splint and see how well her wing has healed. I kneeled down next to her wing with the splint on it and said as I smiled at her.
"Okay girl let's get this splint off you so we can check out your wing."
She growled in agreement before I got to work on removing her splint. Once the splint was off she raised her wings and took off doing a lap around the ship roaring happily as I watched with a smile before she landed back on deck. It was then I saw the trust in her eyes and knew now was the time to train her so without hesitation I raised my hand up to her and turned away. It wasn't long before I felt the cool metallic like feeling of her muzzle on the palm of my hand and heard her purring. I turned my head and smiled at her before saying.
"Welcome to the family. While we've been looking after you I came up with a name for you! What do you think of Sapphire for your name?" She purred in approval of her new name to which I smiled. Not only did this mean a new very powerful and lethal dragon but the last dragon pen is filled which means it's time to head home and I have to say I could hardly wait to see all my dragons and animals again so without hesitation I yelled at Scaulder. "TIME TO HEAD HOME BIG GUY!" He roared in approval before turning the ship and leading us home.
4 days later
We are now pulling into the hideouts dock after a safe trip back. I looked around the cave and said.
"It's good to be back." Not surprisingly as soon as I lowered the gangplank my animals and dragons ran up to greet me as I laughed before saying. "Easy guys it's good to see you to."
I then began the introductions to our five new occupants though Sapphire was a bit aggressive which is normal for a razorwhip since they have no trust for other dragons or humans which is why they are reclusive by choice. At least that's what I got from the razorwhip lens of the dragon eye. Right now, though I am only focused on getting all my new dragons settled in to their new home and get to know their new family along with helping them gets accustomed to their new jobs.
