Making an island a home

Hiccups POV:

Me and Toothless were now hovering over my island and getting a good view of the island so I could get an idea on what I can do to make it my own. From what I could tell the island was mostly grass land except in a few sections of the island. One part of the island held a large forest with a lake in the center that made a river that had a delta which lead into the ocean and a few streams going around the rest of the forest. Another section was completely engulfed in snow with only pine trees growing there. There was also section completely made of rocks, boulders sticking out of the ground and a few small mountains with from what I can tell a completely rock ground. There was also a very large sea cove which I'm sure Glacia would love to turn into her new nest along with a smaller one which I'm sure I can turn into a dock or a stable for my tidal classes. In the center of the island was the volcano rising out of the ground like a mountain. The rest of the areas were mostly just grass land which I knew I could use for either farming or growing an entirely new environment since I had been thinking of trying to grow my own Mayan jungle for my jaguars, monkeys and Ikan. There was more than enough room to grow it even with the other areas and I would still have plenty of room to build my new home and still have more room than ever to create and expand my home. I knew though that before I could do that there was plenty of work to do and it starts with checking out what surprises the Gods left me at the volcano.

Me and Toothless flew to the top of the volcano so we could see what the gods had left me. As we flew over the volcano I saw a large path way in a small valley which lead up to the volcano. I had Toothless land in the valley and on the path so we could see if it led up to the volcano since I'm pretty sure that was the reason it was here. We walked down the path and as we did I took note of the walls and how they seemed to begin to smooth out as we made our way up to the volcano but it never got hotter. As we got closer to the top I stopped when I noticed that one of the walls had reliefs of my dragons imbedded in it while the other had my animals. It even had their names carved underneath them. It was absolutely incredible how they got every last detail right including Diggs tail spines.

When we reached the top, I saw a large statue of Toothless made completely of black marble with emerald eyes on a large stand with a seal that looked like Toothless on. (AN: The statue looks like the night terrors nightfury formation while the seal is like the stone of good fotune.) Resting at the base of the statue was a white marble tablet with a message carved into it.

'Dear Hiccup

We hope you like your new island as we know what you desired for an island as we entered your mind and looked deep inside to see what you wished for when it came to an island. On this island any type of plant you grow shall thrive even those that are from distant lands which means you shall be able to grow whole new environments and replant your crops from your current home. The mountains and rocky terrain hold no treasures but it does hold many resources which you shall need in the future. Should you ever wish to conceal your island from the outside world you must simply twist the seal at the base of the statue and it shall activate a dome which shall make your island invisible to all and cause the ocean around it to drive any ship away. When you wish to make it visible again you must simply twist the seal back to its original setting. We also understand how harsh winter can be in your region and we wish you to remain calm knowing that this statue prevents any form of climate change to come to your island so when winter does come your plants and animals will be safe. We hope you enjoy your new life Hiccup and return to Greece at some point despite the fact that you will have to avoid the single female populace of Greece and their fathers. We also hope you enjoy unlocking the mysteries this island possesses.

Till next we meet.

The Greek gods

PS.

Hiccup you have an amazingly organized mind and I did so enjoy your memories of you trying to avoid the girls. Especially the one when you jumped in the river and hid under water for five minutes to avoid some of those Mayan girls even if it resulted in a piranha biting your shoulder. Also, when you build your new home I recommend the grassy land near the bottom of the volcano since the land is flat and perfect for construction and Pan requested that a small island be made in the middle of the lava and for you to plant the seeds he gave you there. Don't know why though but good luck.

Hermes'

I put the tablet down and chuckled remembering my time in Greece since I had some great times there when I wasn't fighting for my life or running from the single female populace. Despite that I still had some good times there working in the forge and taking in the culture of Greece. I especially enjoyed the fine architecture they had when it came to their buildings since it gives me some ideas for my new base. Especially the marble support beams since as I've learnt marble is immune to dragon fire and even the slice of a razorwhips tail. (AN: See Dragons race to the edge 'between a rock and a hard place') I figure with my medallion I could easily go back to Greece and pick up marble materials for the construction. I knew one thing for sure however and that was that I wasn't going on anymore adventures for a long time. For now, though I had some plans for a new base to finish up and an island to explore starting with this volcano. I walked past the statue and looked down into the lava below. Sure, enough in the center was a small island with a wall of stone cutting the lava off from the water inside that surrounded the grassy area and knew if that if Pan wanted me to plant the seeds he gave me down there then there must be a reason but for now I have work to do.

7 months later

It has been seven months since I released my island and to say I've been busy would be the largest understatement in Viking, Mayan, Egyptian and Greek history. I had been learning so much about my island such as the environment and minerals and to say I was impressed with what I found would be an understatement. I had spent two weeks getting a feel for my new island, another week drawing up plans for my home and a month gathering and testing out different materials against dragon fire, strike and strength. Turns out the most effective material is marble since it could even withstand a razorwhip tail strike which will definitely come in handy with my dragons. Another thing I had to do was find another island with the materials I needed and having my boulder classes harvest the mineral. Fortunately, I was able to use more than just my regular long journey ship but all of my ships so I could collect the materials quicker. The real challenge however was constructing the building but, in the end, I think it's all been worth it in the end.

To start off with I had built a stone staircase up to the entrance since there was a slight hill to my new home. At the top is the entrance which is a gronkle iron door as large as the door to the great hall only this one was one foot thick and had an image of Toothless engraved into the center. Behind the door was a large room with marble floor, walls, support beams against the walls, three doors on either the right or left side of the room and opposite to the door was a marble staircase leading up to the second-floor balcony that circled the room, had a gronkle iron railing. (AN: It's called an indoor mezzanine balcony)On the balcony there was also the doors leading to some of the rooms on the second floor.

On the first floor was the library, training room, food store room, cold room, armory, store room, trophy room and the indoor pool. The library was a large room with tall wooden shelves and white marble floor, a marble balcony circling the upper shelves with a spiral staircase leading up to it, ladders on wheels against some of the shelves so I could get to the books on the higher up shelves, the chairs and tables from my old library were in the middle and a glass roof allowed light to shine into it. I had already moved every book I had into the library but there were still plenty of shelves to be filled. The food storage room was packed with shelves against the wall to hold all my food as was the cold room with the only differences being the temperature and doors since one had a wooden door and the other a gronkle iron door. Outside these doors was of course the kitchen which had a marble table circling the entire room with cupboards for my plates and other things and a small fire pit in the middle for cooking. The armory had multiple weapon racks against the walls and going down the middle with a few hooks on the walls to hold other weapons. At the back however was a large empty area with a large circle shaped, gronkle iron floor that had a dent in the center shaped like my stone of good fortune amulet. When I push it and turn it three times to the left and twice to the right the center rises to make a single pedestal. When I twist the top of the pedestal which would open up slots in the floor gronkle iron around it before my suits of armor rise out of the slots ready for use. The training room was a circular room made of black marble and like my armory had a pedestal in the middle but this one had switches which became useable when my stone of good fortune amulet was put in and twisted to the right. This made the switches come out and when I pushed one of them a slot on the wall would open up with a specific type of weapon or exercise equipment in it or it would bring out some targets for archery practice and some training dummies. There was also the store room which to be honest was just a big room where I store my souvenirs or things I plan to sell like the shark skins I have.

My trophy room was very large since I had a feeling I would need the space in the future and was made entirely out of white marble but half of the entire right wall was built in square shelves where I store all the helmets I win in fights against other Vikings but there were still many empty shelves since I knew more Vikings would want to challenge me in the future. Hanging on the back wall in a wood and glass display case was the stone knife Ichik attacked me with, the amulet I got from the spirit in the desert I placed on a headless statue which just consisted of shoulders and a neck and in the center of the room standing up was the red deaths tooth on a pedestal.

Then there are my trophies from Greece which all got their own room right through the trophy room since I had a lot of trophies from that trip. The reliefs depicting me doing the deeds were all imbedded in the walls circling them with the items all in front of their respected reliefs. The pelt of the Nemean lion pelt rested on a faceless stone statue I made for it resting against the left wall with the chain hanging around the shoulders and the claw around the neck as a necklace, the hydra skull was on a pedestal facing away from its relief as did the erymanthian boars skull, the arrow from Artimus rested on a pedestal behind a glass case, the feathers of the Stymphalian birds were in a similar case set out like a fan and Diomedes's helmet were in a display case with the guards helmets on either side of it, the bronze bust of the Cretan bulls head hung proudly on the wall under the relief depicting my battle with the bull, the bridles of Diomedes mares were set up so they were spread out as if they were being used with the six helmets of the mares guards surrounding them all on one pedestal, the giant spear was hung sideways on the wall with the shield from my days with the Argonauts on a pedestal underneath their reliefs, the belt of Hippolyte rested in a glass display case next to it, Geryons shields were on a single long pedestal with the spears next to each of them on the right side and the helmets above the shields, the horn of Kyknos rested on a pedestal with the amulet I received from Atlas above it. I often enjoyed going through these souvenirs from Greece as a reminder of how seriously bizarre my life gets at times.

At the back of the building was a large indoor pool I made for me to cool off in. Lining the bottom and walls with marble completely holding in the water. I gave the pool a glass roof like the library allowing the sun to come in with a few large windows in the walls around the room. For furniture I placed a few Greek clines along with some chairs around circular tables around the pool. I got this furniture from Greece since I set up a doorway there using my portal amulet before I left and made a new door.

There is also my private study on this floor which doubled as the room I kept the different eyes with their lenses. This room had marble floors and wall with marble pillars holding it up. Against one wall was two large bookshelves which reached halfway to the ceiling holding my favorite books but still left most of the wall free, on the wall opposite to the door was a large fireplace that was tall enough to reach my dad's chest, built into the wall and had wooden Vikings carved into the legs, above the fireplace to the right was the white marble tablet I found at the volcano, the wall opposite to my bookshelves had large window with a view out into the ocean. As for furniture I put in a wooden deskin front of the fire with a chair facing away from the fire five feet away, a couch against the wall in between the bookshelves and on the wall above the fireplace were shields with symbols representing each of the dragon classes indented into them. On the fireplaces detail panel was a small bewilderbeasts head sticking out which was actually the key to where I keep the dragon eyes and lenses. First, I pull the tusks down simultaneously which will make the head swing to the side reveling an indent shaped like my stone of good fortune which once inserted just needed to be twisted once to the right and twice to the left. Once this was done the fire would be lowered down into a secret compartment underneath the hearth and closing it so the fire can't burn me. At the back of the hearth a secret passage way would then open into a dark room made of black marble. In the center of this room was a small table with a small stand on it, against the left wall was a book case where the different eyes were stored and against the right wall was a bookcase holding the lenses.

I then had the lower levels which held the vault which had one way to get to the outside of it. A secret passage behind the bookcase in my private room which only I could open. I also made an easy and fast way to drop off my new treasures using a chute down to it in the garden. In the center of my garden is a large statue of Odin standing and at the base were four wooden poles sticking out and a marble path around it. The way it worked was my dragons would bring a wagon of the treasures, push the poles around the statue which would slowly open up the floor behind them as they walked as the treasure fell down a chute into a large metal container I had the vault below. (AN: Like the vault system from 'Gods of Egypt' with a metal crate in the middle) This way I could sort out the different things I had later since I was trying to organise my vault a bit with the different forms of currency I have. Also, at the base of the statue underneath the poles was the portal door I made with the amulet and I was glad to see it worked since it meant I had the blessing of the Norse gods.

On the second floor there was my bedroom, art gallery, model room, map room, four guest rooms and invention room. The first room on that level that was ready was the invention room which was the room where I kept the first working models of my inventions after I made more. The layout for my bedroom was a simple bedroom like the one I had in my cave except one window looking out to the garden along with a window roof that had shutters so I could block off the sunlight when I wanted a bit more sleep. My bed was against the back wall with a nightstand on either side one holding a jug of water and glass while the other held a candle, up against the wall facing the bed was a bookshelf with the door next to it and to the left of the bed was the window to the garden. The art gallery didn't have any windows except the glass roof like the library or pool, the pedestals holding my different vases and a wall with a long row of square shelves built into it for the different helmets I collected from Greece since they are rather artistic and I wanted to display the different types of helmets I collect from around the world. My map room had a large marble table in the center and torches hanging in the wall and the shelf where I keep my maps against the right wall. The guest's rooms were all built the same with a large bed against the left wall, side table with a jug of water and metal cup next to it, a cupboard against the right wall and a window looking out to the courtyard. My model room was where I kept not just my model of Berk but the model I made of my own island. This way I could better plan out the new additions to my island like buildings and such.

There were also the buildings I made outside of my home with paths leading to them like for example my new ship shed I made in the small cove. I built the ship shed around the edges of coves inside making a circular ship shed made out of marble. I had already taken the liberty of moving all my ships in however, even after I moved all my ships in I still have plenty of room for more ships. I had also built a large glass dome roof over it to protect my ships from too much rain and built a very large gronkle iron Bewilderbeast head for the entrance. I made it so when I come in I would just have to signal one of my dragons to fly over and pull the lever which would open the mouth wide and allow me access while the tusks would act as a pathway for my ship. I had also had Diggs make an underwater tunnel which lead to my aquatic dragons' pens so my dragons could pull them out. I also made the entrance look like a bewilderbeasts head with the tusks so when I brought a ship in the of the head would go up and the bottom would lower so nobody could follow me.

The dragon Pens were right next to my house with different rooms each made to suit the needs of the dragons they housed. This place was completely made out of marble so my dragons would have a tough time bringing it down if they tried. The main room was large and circular with the doors leading to the other pens around the room and in the center was a large bowl for fish. Each room was specifically designed for dragons who needed a certain environment to be comfortable. Each room also had a window in each door allowing people to see what was in them and a name plate describing what type of environment it had. The room I built for my boulder classes as expected was covered in stone slabs, boulders and small stone pits along with a few geodes for Gnaw to chew on. The second one was almost completely full of water for my tidal classes except a stone pathway which lead to a platform in the center, in the water I made small pits for my dragons to nest in and against the walls of this room were a few platforms full of sand for tidal class dragons like Dune who enjoyed the sand. The third room had a pure gronkle iron door since this one was for my cold loving dragons so the doors kept the cold in, ice and snow everywhere thanks to the dragons who rested in there. The fourth room was built for my sharp classes since it was full of old wood for the dragons that like to nest in it like Hackatoos or timberjacks. The fifth room was built specifically for my smokebreaths as it was full of old scrap iron. The sixth had fresh leaves and dirt for some of my dragons who preffered a more forested area like snaptrappers or terrible terrors. The seventh room had old bones for Boneknappers and any other bone loving dragons.

Then there was the wolves cave which was like the one I had in my old hideout except this one was dug into the side of the volcano thanks to Diggs. It was exactly like the one I had back in my old cave with cushions and a small tunnel leading to the woods but it had a small hall which lead into my house and was a lot warmer thanks to the volcano. Speaking of caves, I had built a new forge into the side of the volcano and had a small opening made allowing lava to flow into a pit I had in the middle which was built to resemble a large well so I could use it to melt down heavier metals easily. Above the lava pit is a large smelting cauldron I had turned into a chimney with the opening facing down and a large pipe in the back leading up into the ceiling to the outside. There were multiple weapon racks against the walls to hold the freshly forged weapons I made, the molds each hung on the walls for later use as did my tools, the anvil rested five feet away from the lava pit and at its side was my hammer, I installed two separate hearths side by side in the back wall so I would have more room to work and using the hot air that rises from the volcano and a nearby waterfall I was able to make a system that keeps the billows blowing into them on their own, the cooling tanks were right in front of them and the entrance had a cage like door blocking the way which lead straight outside so air could get in.

I also installed a bell tower so I could use the bell I had but it was for emergencies only. For example, if something was about to happen and I needed all my dragons present I would ring it and my dragons would come flying or running in Speedy's case. The tower was three floors high with the bell at the top and four thunder ears facing away from it. The reason for the thunder ears was because they make the sound of the bell louder so when I ring it the sound could be heard from far distances. There was also the dungeon which was on the same level as the vault except it had no connection to the vault whatsoever despite them being on the same floor. The only way down was using this crane system I made so you would stand on the gronkle iron platform before gently lowering yourself using a wait system which worked the same way to bring yourself up. The entire room was a long hall way with the walls, floor and ceiling lined with half a foot of gronkle iron which had a stone underside. The cells were square with ten feet wide either way but were sixteen feet in height and had a single torch hanging from the roof for light and one bed on both the right, left side across from the wall with the door, each of the doors had a slot on the bottom with two metal plates at the bottom with small three foot chains connected to them on one end and the other end connected to the outside of the door so when it was feeding time I put the food on the plates and push them in and when I needed to bring them out I can just pull the chain. There was a total of ten rooms on either side of the hall and one room at the end like the others except this one only had one bed since I plan to use this one for solitary confinement.

There was also a large plot of land I had stripped bare and prepared just for farming my food. This plot of land was fifty feet away from my house and had a marble path leading to it. I had Diggs completely dig up the grass and bring the fresh soil to the surface so I could begin replanting my crops. I built a large wall around it so none of my animals would get any ideas if they got hungry. At the back of this garden was a small dam with an underwater tunnel leading out into the ocean. This way my tidal classes could come in and water my plants when needed.

Glacia had already turned the large cove into her new nest by using her icy breath to make an ice nest but I was still able to enter it to see her and she could still exit it through an underwater tunnel. I also found my new island had hot springs that did a lot more than help clean my body. The cave which held these hot springs was right next to my new home so I was able to make a hall from my home to the cave entrance easily. The waters of these hot springs literally glowed which made me a little uneasy but after building all day I decided to rest in them since they seemed safe enough and they were great since the second I entered I felt all the exhaustion leave my body completely as if the waters were washing away the exhaustion and fatigue.

I still had to test the pan flute I got from the Greek demi god Pan on my plants from my hide out today since I had already collected my jungle plants seeds already since I was going to try and grow my own Mayan jungle later after I had seen if the pan flutes work in helping my plants flourish in their new environment. I just hoped it worked because if not then that would really complicate things for me when it came to my crops. I had already uprooted my trees and crops by having the ground around them dug up by my boulder classes and doing as little damage to the roots as they could when it came to both my crops and flowers and placing them in bags full of dirt before closing up the bags so I could move them more easily. Now all my crops were replanted in straight rows according to their species and what they gave while I stood in front of them with my pan flute ready to play it and test its effects. Looking out at the field I blew into the pipes and began playing a song I heard in Greece about life being given to another. I closed my eyes and let the melody flow over me like a river making me feel at peace with the world. I was brought out of my peaceful state when the sound of wood breaking filled my ears. I opened my eyes and stopped playing the flute to see what was making the noise and much to both my shock and amazement the plants were taking root. Their roots just started spreading out under the ground and digging into the soil. I watched as they kept moving around in the soil and got a good grip before stopping. To say I was amazed would be an understatement since this meant I would have no trouble moving any exotic plants and re-growing them.

After I made sure my crops were fully planted and taken well to the land I began replanting my flowers in the garden and like my crops before I played the pan flute for them. I enjoyed watching as they took to their new home and began to bloom creating a stunning view for me to enjoy and walk through to relax myself in. I knew I would be spending time in the garden admiring the flowers and placing benches around the garden for me to sit in so I could just lose myself in the beauty. I then gathered up the seeds for my own Mayan jungle went over to the area I planned to turn into a jungle. This was a large area which was already clear of any trees or flowers and only had grass land which I had already built a wall around. I knew these plants would need to be spread out randomly like they were in the jungle so my plan was to fly over the land and spread my seeds from the sky and since these plants needed water I had Diggs dig up random trails to form rivers throughout the area after I built a large stone wall around the area so I could separate it from the other areas. These rivers were connected to a large lake outside of the area and in the forest area. This way the rivers would provide fresh water to the plants due to their need for fresh water as saltwater would kill them. Right now, I was in the empty area with Toothless at my side and the seeds from the Mayan jungle attached to my belt. I looked at Toothless and said.

"Alright Bud, let's get this area full of seeds and turn it into a jungle."

He crooned in agreement before I mounted him and we took off over the area. As we flew over the grass I gently let the seeds in some of the bags float down into the grass but was careful not to pour too many of the seeds into one area. I watched as the seeds gently drifted down towards the land and vanishing as they got farther away. When I was completely out of seeds I had Toothless hover as I looked down on the land there were large grassy fields with small rivers running through them but all the rivers came together in the center of the entire area. It was then without hesitation I took out my pan flute and began to play a melody I had heard being played by a Mayan on a flute. The melody seemed to slowly twirl around my head before floating down to the earth. Soon after I started playing I heard the ground breaking below us but I kept playing harder making the music sound even louder and echo around the area. I only stopped when I heard what sounded like wood breaking echo around the area. I looked down at the area as small trees began to sprout out of the ground and branch out while flowers and vines began to grow out of the ground, some of which began to take hold of the walls. I smiled at the sight knowing that in a few days I would have a fully-grown jungle for my monkeys, eagle, jaguars and Nimla to enjoy while I would have a place to practice my jungle survival. I would of course need to move some fish into the river and release my poison dart frogs into the jungle to make it more authentic for them. I also had to relocate some boars into the forest for my wolves to hunt down since I didn't want their instincts dulling over time.

There was still one thing I needed to plant before I did anything else though. I reached into my satchel and pulled out the small bag of seeds Pan had given me to plant. I still wondered what they would bloom into since Pan said not to let Hera find out. What could these seeds possibly grow into that would get her angry at him. I looked down at Toothless and said.

"Come on bud. Let's go plant these seeds and see what we get."

He crooned at me before we flew towards the volcano so we could plant the seeds. As we got closer to the volcano I thought back to the living things I got from Greece. Maelstrom had taken well to the wolfpack and had even begun joining them on their hunts but he was still affectionate with me like my other wolves. I had already moved the entire pack to the island and they took to the forest like a fish to water. They immediately started marking their territory and exploring it to the point where I had to call them to their new den to eat dinner. Kal mostly enjoyed swimming through the new rivers on the island and mostly stuck together with my tidal classes but did always enjoy it when I joined them in a good swim. Damen mostly just kept circling the island as if he were guarding it and when he did come down he mostly just ate for a few minutes before giving me the teeth he's shed before taking off again. I kept the teeth in my armory for safe keeping though since I knew their power to be true after I dropped two on the ground and two skeleton warriors burst out and fought to the death.

It was then we arrived at the volcano and I had Toothless fly us inside to the small island. I knew from experience that the water surrounding the island wasn't boiling hot but pretty cool which is odd due to it literally being in the middle of a volcano. I just chalked it up to one of the gifts of the gods before I continued with my life. After we landed I dismounted and walked over to the center of the island I dug a small hole, took the seeds out of the bag and buried them. I stepped back and looked at the small patch of dirt before I began playing the pan flute once more. It wasn't long before I saw a small sprout begin to come out of the dirt so I closed my eyes and kept playing. When I opened my eyes once more I saw that a small tree was growing from the ground but it was still just a sprout. I smiled down at it and said.

"You'll take time my little friend but don't worry you'll grow."

I turned back to Toothless and mounted him once more before we took off. I looked back at the island and smiled once more at the little island wondering what type of tree it was. I knew that only time would tell so there was no choice but to just enjoy life and wait to see what it was. As I looked into the setting sun I knew one thing to be certain though and that was my adventures were truly just beginning.

AN: Hey guys sorry for the delay in updating and not so much action in this chapter but I wanted to get the description of the new home out of the way. As for the long wait I have been working on my novel and if all goes well will be sending out to publishers soon. Wish me luck on that part and the next couple of chapters are going to be altered episodes of the series. By the way my beta reader had to quite due to illness and moving so no more time and if you're interested in the job just PM me and we'll talk.
