The city of El Dorado

Hiccups POV:

I was now standing on my deck leaning on the railing of my long journey ship going over everything that has come to pass in these last few weeks. A week after Dagur was imprisoned on Outcast Island I set out to return to the Mayan city where Gukumatz ruled. Joining me were both my scauldrens who didn't want to be separated which has allowed us to cut our travel time in half since we're already in the jungle. There is also Toothless who wouldn't leave my side, Nimla who I'm sure wanted to return to her old stomping ground and who I was hoping would find a mate along with Maya, Ah Tabai and Ikan who I hoped would also be able to find mates for themselves. I offered my monkeys to come as well but they screeched at me before running up the trees of my jungle. To be honest I couldn't really blame them since when they were in the real jungle they had issues with wild predators attempting to turn them into a meal, which still happened even when they were at my sides.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in through my nose enjoying the familiar scent of the jungle around me along with the various sounds of the different types of wildlife. I had truly missed this place and although I had my own jungle back on my island it just wasn't the same since there wasn't as many sounds, smells or density of the plants. I opened my eyes once more when I felt a forked tongue against my cheek. I opened my eyes and turned to see Nimla staring at me me with her wings folded at her side. I smiled at her before I rubbed the top of her head and said.

"I'm fine girl it's just been a while since we were last here in the jungle and I'm just wondering how things have changed in the city." She just leaned in and nuzzled her head against my chest as I chuckled. "You're right girl I just need to relax a bit since things couldn't have changed that much and we're almost there." She just let out a small growl before slithering away.

Half-an-hour later

We had just docked my ship at the cities dock where large groups of people were waiting for me. When I got close I saw Gukumatz and his guards were among the groups waiting for me but unfortunately one of the groups waiting for me was composed of young woman who I recognized as those who had tried to get my attention from my last visits. Once I lowered my boardwalk I was barely able to set foot on the dock before I was engulfed in a hug by a laughing Gukumatz. When he let me down he put his hand on my shoulder and said.

"It's been a long time Hiccup!" I smiled at him.

"Indeed it has old friend but trust me when I say some crazy things have happened in the time I've been gone."

"And I want to hear it all but for now we feast in honor of your return." I smiled knowing he knew I could never turn down the local cooking.

"Sounds good to me." He chuckled before putting an arm around me and leading me through the crowd with Toothless, Nimla, Maya, Ah Tabai following us as Ikan perched himself on my shoulder.

Nightfall

I was still sitting at a table next to Gukumatz enjoying some turkey as Gukumatz laughed after I told him of my adventures in Greece before he said.

"It seems that either the gods enjoy endangering you or you are just too attractive to dangers my friend." I laughed at this.

"I know but when it comes to my adventures I find that what I get back from them at the end always makes all the dangers I face worth it." He then got a smile, which made me a little nervous.

"Are you referring to the trophies you gain, the experience, the riches or maybe it's the attention you get from the young woman?" I gave him a glare but couldn't help but smile.

"Hardy har har! Very funny Gukumatz!"

"You know I'm just joking with you but still it wouldn't hurt for you to find a girl to settle down with on that island of yours."

"It'll still be a longtime before that happens."

"Don't be so sure about that Hiccup." He then got a smile that made me feel a little uneasy. "Quite a few of the local girls have been looking forward to your return and most have been working on their charm to ensnare you so you can expect more than a few girls wanting to see you."

"Please tell me you're joking!"

"I would but that would be a lie and I have to say with the way they've been acting I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was finally able to ensnare you."

"If they want me so much then why haven't any come to greet me while we've been eating?"

"Because I gave them specific orders to not bother you on your first day back but tomorrow they'll be after you like a harpy eagle on a monkey."

"I'm going to have to keep Toothless and my jaguars at my side constantly aren't I?"

"Of course not!" I smiled slightly at this. "At least one of your jaguars will have to stay home to keep the girls out of your house so they can surprise you." The smile immediately dropped from my face.

"You don't think they'd actually do that do you?" He shrugged.

"Never underestimate what a woman will do to charm a man she wants." He chuckled. "My wife told me that when we first started seeing each other." All I could do was gulp in fear of what I might have to deal with while I'm here.

One week later

I was sitting in my chair in the living room in my Mayan armor without the headdress going over if coming back here was such a good idea since the past week I've had nearly not a single moment of peace whatsoever due to the majority of girls in the city. Everyday I would go out for a walk only to be swarmed by girls wanting to get my attention some of which were five years older then me, which didn't help. Seriously it had come to a point when all I had to do was take a step outside my house and girls would swarm me. I had to ride on Toothless through the city just to get a little space. Even when Toothless was with me on his back it barely stopped their efforts since they would strike poses, which would bring ones attention to their more feminine parts, give me looks with half lidded eyes and wearing clothes that would show a lot of skin. The sad thing is this wasn't the worst part of their tactics to ensnare me. The worst things that the girls did were sneak into my house while I'm out and wait for me while making a meal for me to enjoy with them. Others would wait till nightfall to sneak into my house and wait for me on the bed in a pose that they probably believed would lure me in. Every one of these women who tried this tactic got the end result of me calling the guards to get them out of my house. I figured it would take some time but eventually I'd be able to get some peace with both my jaguars and Toothless guarding the entrance to my house along with the windows since there was one occasion when Noonsa tried to get in through them.

Besides the issues I've been having with the woman of the city I've also had no luck with opening up a portal in my home. I knew it was because the gem didn't glow to show I had the blessing of the Mayan gods so I couldn't make a new portal. I just didn't know what I had to do to earn their blessing, which would hopefully come with a way to make the girls leave me alone on occasion. Honestly was it too much to ask for just some peace to relax alone. It was then I let out a yawn realizing how tired I was from running from girls all morning and figured there's nothing wrong with me just having a short nap in my chair since my dad did it all the time, the chair was comfortable and my feet were already up on the table. It didn't take that long for me to close my eyes and embrace the darkness.

Dreamscape

When I opened my eyes back up I was no longer in my hut but in the middle of the dense jungle at night but and if that wasn't strange enough then there is also the fact that there wasn't any animal sounds whatsoever. The only sounds I could hear was the beat of ceremonial drums being played in the distance and for some reason I couldn't resist following the sound. I walked for what felt like hours before arriving at a strange temple surrounded by giant statues of the Mayan gods all facing this giant Mayan calendar in the center. I walked up into the center of the calendar and looked up at the statues before all of a sudden a fire erupted in front of each of the statues before the statue of Itzamna much to my surprise spoke and said.

"Hello Hiccup Haddock!" I looked up at the statues head.

"Who are you?" I had the feeling I already know the answer to it but it didn't hurt to ask before the statue of Ix Chel looked down.

"We are the gods of the Mayan civilization." I immediately dropped to my knees.

"Not that I am not honored to be in your presence but why have you brought me here?" It was the statue of Kinich Ahau who answered me.

"You may rise Hiccup Haddock for a great darkness has befallen upon our city of El Dorado and with the coming of the season of the Jaguar it shall only grow worse." I slowly stood up.

"Alright but what does this have to do with me?" Itzamna answered.

"Throughout your adventures here in our land we have watched you and our fellow gods from other lands have shown us your adventures proving yourself both worthy and capable of the task we have set for you."

"I take it the task you have for me is to stop the coming darkness and save El Dorado?"

"Indeed, it is."

"But what is this darkness that has befallen El Dorado?" Ix-Chell answered.

"Their worship of us has been stained with their sacrifices of innocent blood which only succeeds in disgusting us."

"What is this sacrifice of blood you're talking about." Itzamna answered.

"When you witness it you will know what it is and why an end must be brought to it but should you accomplish it know that this is only the first step to defeating the darkness."

"But I've never even been to El Dorado so I don't know where it is and if I am able to get there I doubt they'd be too welcoming to a stranger."

It was at that moment that Kukulkan opened his mouth where a golden light was coming from. It was then the light floated out of his mouth and split into two with one piece returning to his mouth while the other came down to float in front of me. I cupped my hands under it as the light dimmed to reveal a golden necklace with the head of a Quetzalcoatl with its right wing spread out to the side. Kukulkan then said.

"I have given the other half of this pendant to the chief of El Dorado and we have informed him that our messenger has the other half and shall mean only be there to combat the coming darkness."

"So I'll have to just show him my half and he'll know I'm on their side." Itzamna then spoke once more.

"Our time together grows short Hiccup Haddock but before we part ways we bestow upon you a map to El Dorado, a message which only the chief of El Dorado may read and the knowledge that should you succeed in vanquishing the coming darkness the rewards bestowed upon you shall be great." It was then two rolled up parchments floated from his hands towards me before I took them and everything went black.

When I opened my eyes I noticed two things, which were in each of my hands, was a rolled up parchment and I felt a weight around my neck. I reached up and held the thing around my neck out so I could get a better look at it. When I saw it was the pendent from my dream I knew the parchments in my hands were obviously the map to El Dorado and the message to the chief. I stood up from my chair looking down at the parchment before unrolling it and found it was a map with landmarks some of which I'd seen on my trips into the jungle. I rolled up the map and said to myself.

"Tomorrow we leave for El Dorado!" I then walked out to discuss this with Gukumatz.

I spent the remainder of my day preparing for the trip to El Dorado by filling up Toothless' saddle bag with supplies, going over the landmarks on the map, talking to my Scauldrens so they knew I'd be gone for a while and why they couldn't come, orders to keep an eye on both Ikan and my Jaguars, explaining to Gukumatz what was going on and preparing for the trip in general. When I told Gukumatz about the message from the gods he asked me if I was just making up an excuse to get away from the girls which got a good laugh from the both of us. He then told me everything he knew about El Dorado claiming it was also known as the lost city of gold and wished me luck on my travels. It was just going to be me, Toothless and Nimla this time. While Toothless was carrying some of my extra weapons, my regular armor and my Mayan armor since I'd be wearing my jungle armor and Nimla would be carrying our food and water and I just hoped we'd be able to make it safely.

Five days later

We had been travelling for the past five days nonstop and seen multiple landmarks that were on the map and we were on our way to the final land mark which rested in front of the entrance to El Dorado. We were now on the ground walking or in Nimla's case slithering towards where the last landmark should be. I hoped we'd get there soon though since the sun would be setting soon and I wanted to stop this darkness sooner rather than later. I looked up from the map to Toothless and Nimla before saying.

"We're almost there guys." I looked at the map once more before looking at the bushes ahead of us. "The entrance to El Dorado should be right behind those bushes."

They just growled as we pushed our way through the brush only to find ourselves face to face with a large standing stone totem marker with the image of a man on the back of a Quetzalcoatl and behind this totem shallow lake with a huge waterfall. I looked around and saw nothing except dense jungle and more water. I turned back to my dragons wondering why the gods would send me all the way out here if there was no city as far as I could see. It was then I mounted Toothless hoping to get a better view of the area and hopefully find the city. Before I could get Toothless to take off he and Nimla got into their battle stances and began to growl while looking at the waterfall. I was about to ask them what was wrong when I heard splashing water like someone running through water before it was followed by more footsteps.

I had Toothless walk around the pillar to see what was going on only to see multiple men with spears chasing a young girl running towards us. Before I could do anything however Toothless shot a plasma blast at the ground I'd say about three feet away from her which stopped both the girl and the men in their tracks. They all looked up at us before dropping to their knees and bowing much to my shock. Before I could tell them to stop bowing they stood up and one with a jaguar skin with the top of the head on his head gestured us to follow them which allowed me to tell he was the head guard. We did so but I signaled Toothless and Nimla to keep their guard up as I kept my hand on the hilt of my sword. We were lead through the waterfall into a hidden cave where boats were waiting for us. We got into one of the boats with the head guard.

As we rowed through the water we passed two large pillars holding the roof of the cave up which I admit were quite impressive if humans made it alone. We eventually reached the end of the tunnel with vines covering the exit but when we were through I knew we had found El Dorado. There were towering temples, huge buildings, giant statues and all had gold built into their structure. Another thing that caught my eye was how people came up to the river and looked at us. As we rowed down the river I looked around at all the sights and people before we docked and we were lead towards the steps of a large temple. At the top of the stairs was a man wearing a beige loincloth with a red and yellow striped outer covering around his waist, a necklace with jade beads and a jade jaguar head in the middle, gold wrist cuffs and thumb sized spot of paint on his chin. He was giving me a smile which sent a shiver up my spine as a man around my fathers size and weight wearing a golden crown and a blue and green skirt that went up to his chest and down to his ankles along with a gold necklace with wrist bands walked up next to him. It was then the first guy began to walk down the steps followed by the bigger guy and yelled out.

"CITIZENS JUDGEMENT DAY HAS ARRIVED WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE GODS AS I PREDICTED SO LONG AGO!" He then reached the bottom of the stairs and began bowing to us. "My lord I am your loyal and devoted high priests Babajide!" I looked down at him as the other man came up and bowed as he said.

"And I am chief Eadrich my lord and we welcome you to our city." I looked down at them before I answered.

"Okay it's nice to meet the both of you but I am not a god." Everyone gasped before Babajide said.

"What do you mean my Lord?" He looked at Toothless then back at me. "You ride a beast of the sky's."

"Yeah because he let's me but that does not make me a god but your gods are the reason I've come to your city." He then got a smile on his face, which made me feel uneasy.

"Aaah I see now that the gods have sent you to bring us these magnificent beasts to judge us and for you to be a sacrifice." He looked back at the armed men. "Guards seize him!" I was ready to fight back but the chief yelled out.

"STOP!"

The guards immediately stopped their approach as the chief walked up to me before lifting up his closed hand and opening it to show a small piece of gold which resembled a serpents tail with a wing on the top left. No sooner did he hold it out did it begin to glow. I knew this was the other piece of the pendent the gods had given me if the gold piece around my neck shaking and glowing was any indication. I slowly took the gold piece from the chiefs outstretched hand and brought it close to my half. When they were close the chief's piece practically flew out of my hand and joined with mine before much to our shock the head gave a small roar as the tail curled up. The chief looked up to me and smiled before he asked.

"Hiccup Haddock?"

"Yeah that's me." He let out a chuckle.

"The gods came to me in a dream saying they were sending a champion to us to help defend us in against a coming darkness."

"That's me and I bring a message from you to them."

"And what is this message?" I pulled out the parchment and held it out to him.

"You'll have to read it yourself since I can't break the seal on the parchment." Before the chief could take the parchment however Babajide grabbed it and said.

"As the speaker of the gods and their devoted high-priest I should be the first to read their message." He tried to break the seal on the parchment only to fail miserably to the point where he was growling and looked ready to rip the entire parchment up but before he could I said.

"That message was given to me by the gods to deliver to the chief and the chief is the only one who's capable of breaking the seal and reading the message."

He reluctantly gave the message to the chief who had no trouble breaking the seal and reading the message. I waited for him to finish reading it before he rolled it back up and looked at me before saying.

"The message reads that Hiccup Haddock is a champion of not only our gods but of those of distant lands and as such we should listen to him and treat him as we would the gods." It was then he turned to face the girl from before who I could now see was gripping something close to her body. "Now as for you who would steal a golden idle from a temple you shall face punishment for your crimes." She fell to her knees begging for mercy and that was something I hated seeing so I held my hands up in a calming motion towards the chief.

"Hey chief please calm down now since a good thing came from her stealing the idle." He cocked an eyebrow.

"And what good came of it exactly?"

"If she hadn't stolen it and come running out of the city with the guards then I might have had a far more difficult time finding your city since the maps the gods gave me end at that stone totem outside of the entrance and besides no damage was done." He rubbed his chin in thought.

"Very well but she must return what she stole from the temple, polish every treasure and offering in the temple she stole from under the watchful eyes of guard and should she try to steal again then there will be severe consequences." She nodded and smiled at me before the guards took her away as the chief turned back to me. "Well now that that's taken care of me and Babajide will take you to your residence here in the city Hiccup."

I nodded in thanks before they led me and my dragons away. They walked us up a temple which took a while but fortunately I was used to climbing long walks from all my trips and the Great hall on Berk. When we finally arrived at the top I saw Eidrich and Babajide standing on either side of curtains before pulling them apart and letting me in. I walked into the room to find a large room with walls and pillars decorated with Mayan carvings. In the front part there were four pillars holding up the roof. A little past them is a small step with two couches covered in large pillows on either side resting in front of a shallow rectangular pool of water with long couches on either side of it and at the back in front of a great stone face was a throne and in front of the couches at the front were stone tables holding bowls of fruit. Around the room where openings where the walls came to an end leaving large openings which allowed amazing views. I knew I'd be comfortable staying here for my stay in El Dorado.

I looked around the room as Toothless ran past me and began bouncing around the room while Nimla slithered up to the water and began drinking. I looked back to Eidrich and Babajide who were both smiling at me before Eidrich said.

"I hope these living conditions are to your liking Hiccup." I smiled at him.

"Don't worry this room will do just fine for my stay." They nodded before they walked out but before he left Eidrich turned back.

"By the way Hiccup tonight we are having a big celebration to commemorate your arrival."

"Got it and thanks but is there anything I should wear."

"Do you have clothes like those of my people."

"Does the armor I got from my friend chief Gukumatz count." I picked up my Mayan armor which had been dropped on the floor when my dragons came in and showed it to Eidrich.

"Yes, Hiccup that'll do nicely but I recommend you also wear the pendant the gods gave you as a sign of respect." I nodded to him before he left allowing me to change before going to enjoy the celebration.

5 hours later

I had just made it to the top of the steps of the temple I was staying in and to say I was tired would be an understatement. That was one huge party where I did get to meet more of the locals, take in some of the culture, enjoy some of the local delicacies which were absolutely delicious, I learnt some of their customs, had a good laugh with the chief, talked to him about our lives and spent a good amount of time avoiding some of the girls along with the high priest who was always giving me a look which made me feel uneasy. After that huge party I just wanted to go to the room I'm staying in collapse on the couch and sleep till morning but I knew I'd have to get up early since Babajide said they were giving an offering to the gods. I don't know why but I did not like the way he said it for some reason but I knew I could deal with it in the morning.

Morning

It was now sunrise and I had to say I was not happy with being woken up at this time or how I was woken up. Babajide woke me up at the crack of dawn with the top half of his face covered by a mask which I'm pretty sure was made of bone. There were three gold teeth on each of the bottom sides along with two yellow feathers on either side of a pink feather on the top of the mask with four pieces of gold curved back like flat goat horns. When I first saw him smiling down at me as he leaned over the side of the couch I was laying on I got such a fright I gave a yell and fell off the couch before he told me to get ready for the offering. I asked him what I should wear and he told me to just where my Mayan armor and that a palanquin was waiting at the bottom of the stairs to take me to the sight with my dragons following. As we were brought through the city people often cheered and waved at me as I waved back to them before we walked through a tunnel which lead us to where the offering would be made.

This brings us to where I currently am which is standing on a balcony over a large whirl pool with a large crowd of people standing on the other side. I was told this is where I was told the offering to the gods would be made. I looked down at the whirlpool and was not liking what I was seeing since I had the feeling this would be big trouble. It was the Babajide walked up to the edge smiling at the crowd before lifting his hands up and yelling.

"THE GODS ARE TRULY WITH US!" Everyone cheered at this. "THE GODS HAVE BLESSED US WITH THEIR CHAMPION TO AID US FOR THE COMING SEASON OF THE JAGUAR!" This got more cheers from the people. "AND WE HAVE REPAYED THEM WITH NOTHING BUT A MERE CELEBRATION WHEN THEY DESERVE A PROPER TRIBUTE!"

It was then two guards walked forward with a large sack which had the top tied shut with a red ribbon and had a necklace of flowers underneath it. He then pulled the ribbon which made the edges fall and reveal much to my horror a man with his hands tied to together at his front. Babajide pulled him up which made it clear to me he had been given something to make him weaker and drowsy. A guard handed Babajide a macahuahuitl with a carving of Quetzalcoatl with its wings spread out behind it as its jaw is opened wide with a human skull in the middle of it. He then used it to push the man towards the edge of the balcony towards the whirlpool. It was as he raised his macahuahuitl that I realized what I meant by sacrifices of innocent blood and I could not just stand by and watch it happen. I ran up as I pulled out my sword and blocked the macahuahuitl as it came down towards the man's head. I heard everyone gasp at this including the chief as I pushed the guy away from the edge towards Toothless and Nimla. It was as they were wrapped protectively around him that Babajide came to his senses and glared at me before near growling said.

"How dare you interrupt this offering to the gods!" I glared back.

"How dare you try to take the life of another man and spill innocent blood which only succeeds in both displeasing and disgusting to the gods."

"What are you talking about?"

"When the gods told me to come to El Dorado they informed me how your worship of them has been stained with your sacrifices of innocent blood."

"This nonsense must stop for we only kill to please our gods."

"Oh, please I've saw that glint in your eye." I glared at him with disgust. "You do this more for your own pleasure then to please the gods."

"I only take pleasure in worshiping the god's foreigner."

"You take pleasure in spilling innocent blood." It was then Eidrich put a hand on my shoulder and smiled.

"I know an honest man when I see one and the pendent the gods gave me is proof that you are no liar Hiccup Haddock." He turned to the crowd. "FROM THIS DAY ON WE WILL SACRIFICE NO MORE OF OUR PEOPLE." Everyone except Babajide cheered at this as I smiled before Babajide pointed the end of his macahuahuitl at me and said.

"Nobody tells me how to pay worship TO MY GODS!" He then swung his macahuahuitl at me but I dodged out of the way when I saw the chief and my dragons getting ready to interfere but I held my hand up to tell them not to interfere and said.

"No this is my fight!" I turned back to Babajide as he took another swing at me. "It doesn't have to be this way Babajide."

"YES, IT DOES!" He took another swing but I stepped to the side.

"You can't win against me." I ducked under another swing.

"Why not?"

"I'll show you why not!" When he took another swing, I didn't dodge but grabbed his arm and twisted it making him drop his macahuahuitl allowing me to kick it to the side. "This fight is over!" I let him go and turned away after pushing him to the ground.

"No it's NOT!" Next thing I know he grabbed me from behind and pulled me to the edge before pulling us both over towards the whirlpool. "WE DIE TOGETHER CHAMPION OF THE GODS!"

The last thing I saw before we hit the water and were sucked in was the chief looking over the edge with his hand held out towards me while Toothless and Nimla tried in vain to reach us before we hit the water as I listened to Babajides insane laugh. What's funny though is as we fell all I could think about is if this is how it would end for me. Falling into a giant whirlpool with an insane high priest holding onto me as he laughed. I always figured I'd go down fighting some monster, taking on an army to protect people or wrestling with a demigod. What can I say but weird things have a tendency to happen to me if my adventures in Greece were anything to go by. As these thought of death came to my mind I wondered if I'd be forgotten and become just a meaningless name washed away in the sea of time or would history remember me. My last thoughts were not just of my island and all its inhabitants but also of those on Berk. The last thing I imagined before I was engulfed by the water was that of me standing infront of my house with all my dragons and animals behind me while my dad and Gobber stood at my sides smiling. It was then my vision was engulfed by the water of the whirlpool.
