Chapter 58
Hiccups POV:
It's been three weeks since the Thawfest games and unsurprisingly I had to pay a visit to the village in order to remind Spitelout of the warning I gave him about how he treated Snotlout. I left him pinned to the wall with my scimitar throwing knives for five hours before he finally gave in and apologized to Snotlout. I told him he did it again then he wouldn't be walking away after such a short time. Besides that I've been mostly relaxing on my island and helping Gobber out in the forge building and repairing weapons for the village and he was grateful to have the help. Other than that I had been using my now free time to study the dragon eye using different forms of dragon flames, magma or acid and it revealed some interesting results with new islands for me to check out with new species of dragons. I made a list of the new places but decided it best to check them out at a later date since winter was coming and the last thing I wanted to do was get caught in the cold.
It was due to this that I was now in the middle of the ocean doing on my ship built for small island exploration so I could search some islands that were closer by while also doing some hunting for the tribe. I did pack my scimitar throwing knives since I might need them later on and besides it didn't hurt to be prepared and my calming flute since I might run into some dragons that are too angry for me to train. Joining me on this trip was Toothless as my main mount incase I needed to scout out some things, my Scauldrens to pull my ship, Coral to do some undersea looting if the need arose, Angel and Phantom to scout out any camp sights without being seen and Maelstrom who was here because I was getting worried about him since he's been acting strange. Always rubbing his bottom against the ground, nuzzling his tail while looking at his tail and whining. I had done some thorough checks on his tail but from what I could tell it was completely fine and just a little wet from the licking his heads had been doing to it. I was looking over the railing at the passing waves before I turned to Maelstrom who was curled up against the side of the ship while one head was wining as it looked at his tail as the other head licked it. I sighed before walking over to him and kneeled down as he looked up at me with both heads before I rubbed his heads and asked.
"What's wrong with you boys?" He just whined. "I've checked your tail pal and as far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with it." He just kept whining. "I hope this pain stops soon pal but for now all we can do is wait it out."
He just went back to what they were doing before I came to check up on him as I stood up and left him to tend to the fish but as I did Toothless ran up to me and began pushing me to the rails. When we reached the railing I saw something in the water a small distance away. I took out my spyglass and saw it was someone floating on a piece of what I think was decking. I turned to Toothless and said.
"Good spotting bud!" He growled and nodded before I turned to Coral. "Go and push that person to the ship girl but stay under water since we don't need the person freaking out." She crooned before diving under the water and swimming towards the person as I turned to my scauldrens. "You guys dive under water to since the person might see you and think we're under attack." They nodded and dived as I turned to Toothless and Maelstrom. "You two hide below deck in the secret hold so you don't scare the person okay?" Toothless crooned while Maelstrom barked before running into the lower decks before I turned to Angel and Phantom. "You two blend into the side of the ship incase this person is hostile and I need help fighting him." They nodded before hopping onto a wall and blending in. It was then the person finally reached the side of my ship before I lowered fishing net down to collect them. Once they were on deck I saw it was a thin man with a small brown beard and short hair. I checked to see if he was still alive and was glad to see he was still breathing but may have drunk in some seawater so I began pushing down on his stomach to try and push the water out of him. I pressed down five times before water began coughing up salt water and get up. He looked at me before looking around my ship before he asked.
"Where am I?"
"You're on my ship and don't worry I'm not going to hurt you."
"What happened?"
"I fished you out of the ocean after I found you holding onto a plank of what I think is a piece of deck." He slowly pushed himself up.
"Well thank you stranger but who are you?"
"I'm Hiccup Haddock of the Hairy Hooligan tribe and may I ask what your name is."
"It's Arvid of the Meathead tribe." I nodded.
"Would you like me to sail you back to your village?"
"I'd appreciate it." I walked over to a barrel and took a flask of water before giving it to Arvid.
"Drink some clean water since you took in a lot of water." He nodded before drinking and while he did that I held a hand over my ships railing and signaled my Scauldrens to which direction to pull the ship before we took off.
4 hours later
We were now approaching Meathead Island and I could tell Arvid was happy about it but I was a bit nervous since my dad and the chief of the Meathead's Mogadon the Meathead have a fierce rivalry. I knew about this first hand since when they get together for a meeting they end up competing in everything from arm wrestling to wrestling and when the meeting came to an end it always took members of each respective tribe to separate them. His heir Thuggory was a pretty nice guy and when he visited we were good friends since he stood up to Snotlout and the twins when they tried bullying me. I was just worried to how they'd react to an unrecognized ship docking on their island. Fortunately when we got close I did see a large group of men coming together on the dock. When we docked I lowered the gangplank before Arvid walked down the dock yelling.
"STAND DOWN MEN HE'S A FRIEND!" All the men lowered their weapons but kept their guard up as a man I recognized as Chief Mogadon walked forward and asked.
"Arvid where have you been?"
"I was shipwrecked chief but this man pulled me out of the ocean when I was a drift." I walked down the gangplank as Mogadon walked up and looked me up and down before his eyes widened.
"Aren't you Stoicks boy?" I smiled at him.
"Nice to see you remember me Chief Mogadon." He put his hand on my shoulder.
"It's nice to see you lad and thank you for bringing Arvid back to us unharmed but what were you doing out on your own?"
"I was doing some small island exploration for some wood and hunting when I found your man floating in the water." He nodded.
"Never the less I'm glad you came by when you did since Arvid would've drowned if you didn't." I nodded before he looked me up and down again. "Where'd you get the armor?" I looked down at my armor before looking back at Mogadon.
"I built it myself for when I'm sailing."
"Well it's a fine suit as far as I can tell." It was then one of the men behind him said.
"How do we know he's not a spy from the Lava-Louts?" There were cries of agreement.
"I don't suppose you'd allow us to search your ship would you?"
"I've got no problem with it as long as none of your men take any of my stuff." He nodded before he gestured a few men aboard to begin their search before I turned to Mogadon. "Your tribe has been having trouble with the Lava-Louts?" The Lava-Louts are one of Berks greatest enemies and known to be vicious slavers who wore dragon's skins.
"We have lad and we're lucky those snakes in helmets haven't taken anyone yet since we've been able to repel them but I'm worried since we haven't seen them for a while so I'm guessing their waiting for us to lower our guard." I nodded.
"Possibly!" It was then the men came back from their checking on my ship.
"We didn't find anything suspicious chief besides a few barrels of food supplies." He nodded before turning to me.
"I'm sorry about the trouble lad." I shrugged.
"You're just ensuring the safety of your tribe and I can respect that."
"Still though I insist you stay for at least lunch since I'm sure your aunt Hildegard and uncle Bjarke will want to see you." I felt like slapping my head forgetting that my mom's brother and his wife lived here and were one of the few relatives who treated me with kindness.
"I forgot they lived here." He smiled.
"So is that a yes?"
"It is but first I just need to take something on my ship alright."
He nodded before I boarded my ship to clear things up with my dragons and Maelstrom to stay hidden until I came back and once the message was cleared I joined Mogadon to their great hall. When we arrived I saw it was similar to the Great hall on Berk in architecture but you had to cross a stone bridge instead of climbing stairs to get to it. When we entered Mogadon announced my arrival to the village before he lead me to the table my aunt and uncle were sitting at. As we approached they stood up and walked towards us to greet us. When my Uncle looked down at me he smiled and said.
"Hiccup come and give your old uncle a hug." He opened his arms and I walked right up and hugged him.
"It's good to see you to Uncle Bjarke!" He then put me down and before I knew it my aunty Hildegard had me in a hug before putting me down.
"Oh the last time we saw you, you were no bigger then a loaf of bread and now look at you." She began pinching my cheeks. "Grown into such a handsome young man who I'm sure the girls go mad over." When she let go I rubbed my cheeks.
"Trust me aunt Hildegard you have no idea." She chuckled before uncle said.
"Oh ho a ladies man aye?" I just rubbed the back of my head before aunt Hildegard slapped him on the back of the head.
"Don't tease the boy Bjarke." He rubbed the back of his head.
"Yes dear." She turned back to me and smiled.
"Now let's sit you down Hiccup since you're just in time for lunch."
Before I could turn her down she pulled me to the table and put a plate in front of me. It was after a few minutes I was enjoying a story my uncle was telling me about my mother from when they were young before my a little girl holding a teddy bear walked up and said.
"Excuse me Mr." I looked down at her and smiled.
"Yes little lady?"
"Is it true you ride a dragon?" The smile quickly left my face.
"Excuse me?" Before she could reply my uncle said.
"It's just this crazy rumor going around the archipelago Hiccup." I turned to him for answers. "People are saying you ride dragons and slayed a giant dragon called the Red death." I gave a nervous chuckle.
"And what if these rumors were true?" He chuckled before Mogadon walked up.
"If they were true I'd like to see this dragon of yours since I'd like to know how this all started."
Before I could reply three boys around my age ran in screaming with Maelstrom surprisingly following after them. They ran to me as the one at the front cried.
"Call him off! Call him off! Call him off!" I stood up and put my fingers to my lips and whistled before saying.
"Maelstrom! Here boy!" He stopped chasing them and ran over to me as I kneeled down to stroke his heads before looking around and saw all eyes on us before I chuckled nervously. "I know I have some explaining to do." I took two chicken legs and gave them to Maelstrom as I sat down to begin my tale but before I could Mogadon walked forward and said.
"A two headed wolf."
"Yeah, this is Maelstrom and as for me training dragons." I paused. "Well let's just say there is some truth to the rumors." Mogadon stared at me for a moment before he said.
"Start talking."
3 hours later
I just finished telling everyone how I met Toothless and began training dragons along with why they raided villages. A few people also wanted to know about Maelstrom who was happily chomping down on the bones I gave him which resulted in me needing to tell them about my fight against Geryon along with my other adventures in Greece. As for why Maelstrom was chasing those boys they had apparently decided to sneak on my ship to check it out but one of them ended up stepping on Maelstroms tail while he was having a snack behind the barrels. When I finished Mogadon walked up to me and put a hand on my shoulder as he said.
"Lad those are quite some interesting stories."
"Thanks now I guess you're going to want me to leave for as some people put it spitting in the eyes of tradition by befriending Vikings long time enemy." He chuckled.
"Lad I do want you to leave but only to get that Nightfury of yours since from what you told me the only true enemy was the Red Death." There were yells of agreement before I looked at him.
"You won't hurt him?"
"As long as he doesn't hurt any of us and on that you have my word as a chief and besides if I upset you I'm pretty sure your aunt would skin me alive." My aunt Hildegard replied.
"Oh I'd do a whole lot worse than that." She cracked her knuckles making Mogadon gulped before turning back to me.
"So is that enough to convince you lad?" I nodded before I left the Great hall and returned on the back of Toothless who looked around at everyone.
"Well Meatheads meet Toothless."
I dismounted him as everyone kept their defenses up with some people going for their weapons with me doing the same until the little girl from before walked up slowly and looked at him. He got down on his haunches to look at her before giving her a gummy smile making her giggle and reach out to pet him but she stopped when she was a foot away. She turned to me and I gave a nod before she gently patted his head making him croon and her giggle. After those things went surprisingly well with children coming up to him and petting him while the adults came by to ask me questions. The biggest relief was that my aunt and uncle still treated me the same since the last thing I wanted was for any bad blood between me and two of the only relatives that had always treated me kindly.
Nightfall
It had been a long day since when my the Meatheads got wind of my other adventures I could not get a moments peace since they were all asking me to tell them the stories of my adventures. Besides that there was also my dear aunt trying to fatten me up claiming I was too thin. When she was gone my uncle explained that they weren't able to have a child yet and she really wanted one so she would be treating me like a son. When that wasn't happening I also got multiple challenges from the tribes warriors who wanted to put themselves up against me but they never got the chance since when they tried to challenge me my aunt put her foot down claiming that as she put it she was not going to let her sweet little nephew roughhouse in such a way. This got a few laughs from the men until I used my scimitar throwing knives to pin them to the wall. Now I was in my aunt and uncles home lying down on the bed they provided me in just a pair of pants despite the fact that I said I'd be happy to sleep on my ship and told them I didn't want to be a burden. My aunt wouldn't have it though and wouldn't take no for an answer so here I was with Maelstrom at the foot of my bed and Toothless lying on the side. People were aware of my other dragons but they remained on my ship since I figured one dragon in the village was enough for now. My regular armor was on a stand across the bed with my scimitar throwing knives on the side table next to the bed. It was then Maelstrom began to roll around whining in pain and growling as I ran and kneeled down in front of him and asked.
"Maelstrom what's wrong?" His tail then began to loose fur before the skin beneath it turned to scales as the end turned into a snake that swung around for a few seconds before stopping and hissing as Maelstrom stopped rolling and sat up looking at the snake. "You okay pal?" He turned his two wolf heads before he began licking my face as I laughed before the snake joined in and flicked its tongue on my chin as I chuckled. "So the problem was you were just maturing pal." He just barked as I pet his head. "Let's get some sleep pal." He growled before curling up and going to sleep.
Two days later
I was still on Meathead Island enjoying a quiet walk through the village in the moonlight since I couldn't sleep with Maelstrom at my side while Toothless slept after a big meal of fish. Things have been pretty relaxed for me these pasts few days besides my aunt finally allowing me to go up against a few opponents and long story short none of them won against me and I walked away with a few new helmets. At some point I ran into Thuggory and we got to catch up a bit with him asking if I could make him a suit of armor like man but I told him I'd need his measurements first. He told me he'd get them to me as soon as he could along with an idea on what he wants his armor to look like and what gear it he wanted it to have.
I was brought out of my thoughts by the sound of Maelstrom growling and staring down an alley right before and arrow flew out towards me but I stepped to the side dodging it. It was then a man ran towards me with an axe raised but he wasn't able to get far since I quickly pinned him to the wall using my scimitar throwing knives. He struggled as I walked up to him with Maelstrom at my side. When I was right in front of him I grabbed him by the neck and said.
"All right you can either help me by telling me who you are and why you just tried to kill me or" I let go and stepped back and pointed to Maelstrom. "you can help my pal here and the only way you could do that is by being his dinner." Maelstrom jumped up and put his front paws against the guys' chest and growled with both his heads making him gulp.
"I was sent to scout the village for any guards before we attacked the village from the forest while others attacked from the sea on ships."
"Where are the ships?" He didn't answer but a quick growl from Maelstrom had him saying.
"They're hiding in the sea stacks, waiting for the signal and there are ten of them."
"Good now which tribe do you belong to?"
"The Lava-louts!" I smiled.
"Thank you and sweet dreams!" He looked at me confused for a moment before I punched him in the face knocking him out cold before I turned to Maelstrom. "We have to warn the tribe!" I pulled out my scimitar knives before I grabbed the Lava-lout and threw him over my shoulder and ran to the chiefs hut where I dropped the lava-lout before I began pummeling the door before Mogadon opened the door.
"This better be good!" He then noticed the lava-lout lying on the ground but before he could ask I said.
"I caught this scout from the lava-lout's in the village and was able to find out there are more lava-louts waiting in the forest and others on ships hiding among the sea stacks." He nodded.
"Good work Hiccup but we need to warn the village." I smiled.
"You do that and leave dealing with the men in the forest to me." He looked at me as if I were crazy.
"Are you insane lad?" He rubbed his beard. "Listen I know you've taken on a lot of beasts and warriors but this might be too tough even for you." I smiled at him.
"Don't worry I have a plan which will leave them all unable to fight."
"I hope so or else your aunt will blood-eagle me alive for letting you go at them alone." I smiled.
"It won't come to that but for now round up a group of men and I'll send one of my changewings to get you guys when they're down."
He nodded before I went to get Toothless so we could take them down. It didn't take us long to get Toothless but he was not happy about being woken up and even more angrier that someone had tried to kill me but I just calmed him down before grabbing my secret weapon and a ton of rope. After that I flew to my ship and got my changewings so we could find the Lava-louts in the forest. It didn't take long to find them from the sky and when we did I had Toothless hover over them as I watched them before switching to Angel and had her take us down but remain blended into the forest and covering me so they couldn't see me. When we reached the bottom I took out my secret weapon, which was my flute and began to gently play it as the men immediately put their guard up but I just kept playing as they began to look around. After a few more seconds they were all beginning to slump a bit before one by one they collapsed to the ground in a deep sleep. My dragons would've done the same but thanks to the vase which prevents any form of mind control all it does is calm them. As soon as the last Lava-lout fell I stopped playing and signaled Phantom to go and get the Meatheads, which he was all too happy to do as, Toothless came down. Once he landed I gave him a pat on the head before I took out the rolls of rope from his saddle bag and began tying the now sleeping men up. When I was on the third the Meatheads showed up and looked around seeing the group of unconscious but before they could ask I said.
"Deal with them first and then I'll explain everything."
They all nodded before they began tying up the Lava-louts and carrying them away with my dragons helping. Within half-an-hour they were all rounded up in the town square tied up, disarmed and still unconscious. While this was happening I was with my scauldrens and Coral planning to have them drag the ships the remaining men were on so we could capture them as well. I intended for it to go the same way as it did with the ones in the forest but I'm sure the ones on the ships would be on guard since they haven't received any signal from the village yet. Knowing this I removed my regular armor and put on my stealth armor so I'd have an easier time getting close to them. With my stealth armor on, my tidal classes ready and Toothless and Maelstrom guarding the already captured Lava-louts with the Meathead warriors I mounted Angel and we took off.
2 hours later
I was now in the Meathead Great hall sitting at a table with Chief Mogadon at the head, Thuggory at his side and the Meathead council members taking up the remaining seats. They were all talking about what to do about the Lava-louts with some wanting to attack them now when their forces had taken a blow. Others wanted to stay back and wait for them to try and strike again so they could deliver another blow to their forces. I just sat there listening to them talk and watching them barely hold back the urges to beat the life out of each other. They all stopped when Mogadon raised his hands and yelled.
"SILENCE!" Everyone stopped talking and turned towards him. "We owe todays victory to Hiccup and his dragons whom without we would've ended up losing some of our people to the Lava-louts while our village would've sustained major damage." He turned to me. "I thank you for your aid in this Hiccup but some of the men are right about us needing to strike the Lava-louts when they're down."
"Well I have a few ideas which can help but we'd still need more warriors."
"Do you think you could talk your father into allowing us the aid of the Berk armada?" I rubbed my chin.
"I think so since the Lava-louts have been a thorn in Berks side for a while but you'll need to talk to him in the morning about it."
"I'll have a ship prepared tonight so we can set sail in the morning."
It was then I remembered if I used Toothless then I could be at Berk in just over an hour. This was a fact I was quick to tell Mogadon who urged me to do it in the morning since I needed to rest after tonight's fight. Long story short when morning came Toothless and I were off after a quick explanation to my dragons and Maelstrom who weren't happy about me leaving but I told them we wouldn't be long.
2 days later
It was nightfall as I looked out at Lava-lout Island from my ship, in my battle armor, my eagle shield folded up on my left arm, my star sword on my hip, my scimitar throwing knives on my upper right arm, Smoky in my arms and the Berkian and Meathead armadas behind me. I remember how the meeting went between my dad and Mogadon. I told my dad all about what happened with the Meatheads and he was all too eager to agree to taking down the Lava-louts. Once I brought him back to Meathead Island with the Berk council, on a ship being pulled by Opal since she's one of my strongest flyers and Zap and Ray pulling from the water, the planning began. As the planning began I threw in my ideas from time to time and the council members always took them in well. The plan was to unleash my smothering smokebreaths on the Lava-louts under the cover of night to disarm them before the ships advanced to the docks with all our warriors wielding gronkle iron weapons I supplied from my armory and then deal with the Lava-louts while me and my dragons took care of them from the air. I gently scratched Smoky's chin as I looked out at the island with him before I looked down at him and asked.
"You and your flock ready for this pal?" He gave a growl before I looked to the ships next to mine with my dad and Mogadon on them and gave the signal that I was about to begin before I turned back to Smoky. "Start the attack pal."
He growled before taking off which signaled the other smokebreaths to take flight, they began breathing smoke and formed a cloud camouflaging them before they took off towards the island to begin the attack. It wasn't long before they began flying back with weapons and all other things made of metal in their mouths. I watched as they dropped it all in the large raft my ship had towed behind it so they could go and collect more. At this rate I knew it was going to be a while before they ran out of metal for their nest and as they kept collecting I became glad that I stopped by Break-neck bog to collect more smokebreaths. I knew if it was just my smokebreaths then they'd have too much metal for their den and we'd be disarming the Lava-louts till nightfall the next day.
Daybreak
Vikings and shield maidens from both the Berk and Meathead armada were in the village square surrounding all the Lava-louts in the village while their slaves were being led to ships so they could be taken back to their tribes. I'm sad to say that a few of these slaves were Berkians who went out on fishing trips or trading expeditions but never returned making everyone think they'd died or gotten lost at sea. There were still some lava-louts to round up but they were all in the mines in the volcano to mine the gold. One of the Lava-louts who were in the mind was the chief of the Lava-louts Lobo the hotheaded and this is where I come in.
I was making my way towards the mines with Toothless who would be able to use his echolocation to help me find my way around. I would've brought my whispering deaths as well but they might get carried away and cause an eruption killing everyone in the mines. Following behind us were five men from each tribe with us to drag any Lava-louts I bring out to the town square.
As the mine came into view I saw two guards at the entrance with large bludgeons in their hands. When they saw me and my dragons coming they let out battle cries but I just took out two of my scimitar throwing knives and threw them sending one of the guards back into the mines support beams and pinning him there. When the other reached me he raised his bludgeon but I lifted up my eagle shield and used it to block the bludgeon. As expected the bludgeon broke into pieces as the guard was sent flying back head first into the support beam knocking him out cold. When I reached the mine I looked at the struggling guard for a second before taking my scimitar throwing knives out releasing him but before he could do anything I punched him in the gut and took his shirt before tossing him to the waiting guards. Two of the men dragged the men away while the others followed Toothless and me into the mine except two who stayed out to guard the entrance.
As we made our way down the mine I kept my eyes open for any lava-louts who would try to attack us by surprise. I was right to do so since when we were twenty feet one jumped from behind a support beam and charged at us. When he was close enough I grabbed the spear by the top and pulled him towards us before delivering a strong punch to the gut making him let go of his spear before kneeling over in pain as I tossed him to the soldiers one of which began dragging him outside. Once that was taken care of we continued walking down the mines before reaching a fork in the path before one man charged at us from both paths but I just spread out my arms and launched my bola's bringing them both down. After that Toothless looked down the right tunnel as if he heard something before running down the mine with us following. We came to a wooden door as I unsheathed my star sword and unfolded my eagle shield before I turned to the five remaining men and said.
"Okay here's the plan-" Toothless cut me off by firing a plasma blast at the door destroying it as I looked at him. "I like your plan better."
I walked in with my shield raised as a man charged at me with his sword held high but I bashed him in the stomach sending out the shockwave knocking him back into the wall out cold before two men charged at us but a plasma blast to the ground in front of them stopped knocked them back. I then looked around the room and saw a table in the center with a basket of bread, three metal cups and a metal jug while against the right wall was a line of mining tools. What caught my attention however was the large cell full of people who looked like they hadn't eaten in days and were covered in dirt. It wasn't hard to figure these were slaves so I walked up to the bars and said.
"Don't worry, we're here to help!" They all murmured as I took out my star sword. "Stand away from the bars!" They all backed away and once they were all far enough I used my sword to slice through the bars like butter and after four swings the bars tumbled to the ground as I turned to the men. "Get these people out of here!" They nodded as one of the Berkian men asked.
"What about you?"
"Me and Toothless are going to check the rest of the mines." He nodded but as they left he turned back to me.
"Hiccup when this is over you've got to make me one of those star swords." As I chuckled while I watched them leave before I turned to Toothless.
"Let's go hunt down some Lava-louts bud." He growled and nodded before we walked out of the room.
Ten minutes later
We had been wondering these tunnels and had come up with nothing except a few more support beams, an occasional small lava flow and some broken mining tools but other than that nothing. It was then a large door came into view but this one was wide open. I looked at Toothless and said.
"Wait here bud incase it's a trap."
He growled and nodded before I made my way into the room which I saw had a desk at the back, torches hanging on the wall and bags of gold everywhere. I slowly walked in and looked around but didn't see anyone before I heard a chuckle from behind me. I turned around and saw a man who matched my father in size with black hair, a belt buckle with an erupting volcano on it and a nasty burn taking up the left half of his face. He smiled at me and said.
"I've been waiting for you!" He pulled a lever behind the door bringing a metal cage door down on the entrance trapping me in as I released my star sword and eagle sword.
"I take it you're chief Lobo!" He chuckled.
"Smart boy!"
"Listen!" I lowered my sword. "Why don't you come easily since your warriors have been captured and your slaves are free?" He chuckled.
"Oh I know but if I'm going down I'm taking you with me." He took out a large axe from his back and charged at me with it raised before I ducked underneath his swing and sliding behind him.
"You can't win against me." He snarled.
"We'll see about that!" He then charged at me but I just raised my shield and as expected his axe shattered before he went flying back into the bags of gold with some of them falling on him as I walked up to him laying there under the gold.
"It's over!" He just chuckled.
"Not yet but soon!" He reached over and pulled another lever in the wall before there was a large explosion as the ground began to shake. "I set up a series of bombs to go off and make the volcano erupt." My eyes widened at this.
"Are you insane?" I looked around for a way out. "You'll kill us both!"
"At least I'll die with you dragon rider and with my gold!" I ran at the bars and sliced them to pieces before turning back to him.
"Come with me if you want to live."
"I'll never leave my gold you fool and you will never make it out of the mine alive." It was then Toothless ran in before I ran over to Lobo to try and free him but he slashed at me with a knife he had.
"My gold is worth more to me than my life and I will never abandon it."
He then laughed like a maniac as I stepped back looking into his eyes and saw he was serious so I mounted Toothless and we took off out into the tunnels. Toothless let out a roar to use his echolocation to try and find our way out but the way we came in was blocked off by lava so we needed to find another way out. Toothless let out another roar and we took off down a random tunnel flying down it at top speeds. When we reached the end I saw a stonewall ahead of us but Toothless must have known it wasn't thick since he blasted it and it began to crumble and after three more blasts it was in pieces. It was then we were in a large cave but in the center was a small chest and a grey-green egg and I decided I should use what little time we had to grab them both so I had Toothless fly us towards them where I quickly scooped them up as lava spewed out of the tunnel we just came out of as we hovered twenty feet in the air. I looked down at Toothless and said.
"We've got to get out of here!" He looked up and roared to see if he could find a way out of here and fortunately found a tunnel higher up which we were all too happy to take. "Come on bud we might be able to find a way out before the lava catches up to us." He growled before he began smelling something and took off faster and letting out another roar, it was then I began to smell fresh air followed by seeing sunlight up ahead from an opening. "Come on bud let's get out of here."
He let out another roar before we burst out of the side of the volcano before flying around the volcano as it erupted before we flew towards the ships where everyone was quickly taking the ships out. Once we were away from the volcano I had Toothless hover and turn back to the volcano to watch it erupt. As we watched my mind began to go back to Chief Lobo who was most likely dead at this point. I shook my head at the thought of a man like him who valued his gold more than he valued his own life. I shook my head and I had to say I pitied the poor man and hoped he at least got what he wanted in the afterlife. I then turned my attention back to the egg and chest in my hand and knew that when I got home I had some work to do when it came to studying the egg since I knew it was a real one from the warmth I felt coming from its inside. I put it in Toothless' saddlebag before I had Toothless fly us down to the ships where the chiefs were waiting for us. Once we landed my dad and Mogadon ran up to me as I dismounted before my dad had me in a tight hug before putting me down and asked.
"Hiccup are you alright son?" I nodded.
"I'm fine dad but what about the slaves and lava-louts?"
"The slaves are on ships and will be taken back to their home islands with escorts to explain to the chiefs what happened while the lava-louts are cooling their heels in cells on the ships." Mogadon then asked.
"What happened to Lobo?" I turned back to the island.
"I offered to help get him out of the mines but he wouldn't leave his gold to the point where he swiped at me with his dagger when I tried to help him." I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. "He valued his gold more than his own life." My dad put a hand on my shoulder.
"There is always going to be people like that in the world and sometimes there isn't anything we can do so we just have to leave them to their treasure." I nodded before he looked out to the ships. "You know son there are people from a lot of tribes and with them going back to their villages the other tribes are going to find out about your trained dragons." I nodded and patted Toothless.
"With Toothless at my side then I doubt there's anything I can't deal with." He nodded.
"I hope you're right son." We then began our voyage home.
AN: Hey all I hope you enjoyed the chapter and to all those who gave some ideas I thank you but in some cases some of you forgot some things. For example when it came to meeting 'the defenders of the wing' and 'the wing maidens' you forgot that they are enemies of the dragon hunters and it's too early for that. For those of you who recommended china or japan then keep in mind it's still a long trip to those places. Also I wanted the adventure to be closer to home still though I thank you for the ideas and ask that you keep the reviews friendly. Till next time this is Porcupain out.
