Chapter 61
Hiccups POV:
It's been two weeks since I got back from my little spirit adventure and in that time I have been doing nothing but learning about the gifts I was given and getting to know the mare that now has the name Aylen meaning happiness. Besides that when I got back I learned that I now had a black eagle tattoo on the back of my neck signifying the bond I shared between my spirit guide and I. I had also been practicing using my gifts like switching between my eagle eye and regular eye. With my eagle my accuracy and vision improved so much to the point where I could shoot an arrow to hit a fly and that was at least thirty feet away and I know this because I actually did it. As for my arrows, I hadn't used them yet since Spirit Roamer studied them and said they were very powerful and the last thing I wanted to do was cause any problems for the people since I didn't know what the arrows did.
As for Aylen all I could say was she was an incredible creature with some of the most incredible abilities I had ever seen for a horse. She could run across any surface at speeds that matched Toothless at his top speed as if it were nothing and when I say any surface I mean any surface whether it be up hill, rocky terrain or even water. When she began galloping across the lake for the first time it was quite a shock for me but my shock quickly turned to amazement before joy. It was actually rather fun to run across the water and it was as we did this I found another one of her abilities. As we ran a mist began to follow us and it wasn't long before that mist took the shape of a herd of horses stampeding next to us and I had to say it was remarkable and when it happened her mane took on a flow and color that resembled the northern lights. I knew she had more abilities but I knew she'd show them to me when she was ready.
Presently I was standing in front of my ship with Chiefs Iron Bear, Stone Face and Many Wounds along with Spirit Roamer, Thunder Dancer, Crazy Eyes along with a small group of each of their people coming to see me off. I looked at them smiling as Iron Bear said.
"We hope you come back soon Soaring Eagle but next time I hope you are able to enjoy your time without people without the need to aid us in defeating any evil creatures." I chuckled.
"Oh, please if I didn't have to vanquish an evil creature on my first time visiting a place then where's the fun in the trip?" We all laughed at this before Stone Face said.
"Nevertheless, we hope in the future you will return for a visit where you won't have to save us."
"It wasn't really that bad and I just did what anyone else would've done." Many Wounds stepped forward.
"No Soaring Eagle you did what very few would've done and what even less would've survived and it is for these reasons we are sending you away with gifts." Iron Bear then said.
"The spirits may have given you a bow but our people use so much more than just those as weapons." He signaled three women forward and each held out weapons to me that I recognized as a tomahawk, a ball headed war club and a coup stick with each being decorated differently. "These weapons are a symbol of both bravery and honor among our tribes and with what you've done you have more than earned them." I smiled at them in thanks before taking each of the weapons and putting them in Toothless' saddlebag to hold them till I could unload them before the Shamans walked up each holding something in their curled-up hands as Spirit Roamer said.
"Soaring Eagle, please close your eyes for a moment." I trusted them so I did before I felt gentle tugging on my hair for a few moments. "Now you may open them." I opened my eyes and felt something hanging on the side of my hair. "We have braided one bead from each of our tribes into your hair along with a single feather from a bold eagle with the beads representing our tribes and to show you will always be welcome in them." I smiled at them in thanks before they each held out bags as Crazy Eyes said.
"These bags contain seeds to all the medical herbs for you to grow on your island so you may create what we have taught you." I thanked them before the people stepped aside allowing two men to walk forward carrying a large totem pole as Stone Face said.
"A final gift to you Soaring Eagle." The men stood the totem pole up. "One wood carver from each of our tribes worked on this totem pole so the strength of our tribes would keep the evil spirits from you." I examined the totem pole and found a bear at the bottom followed by a wolf, mountain lion, a buffalo, Toothless and an eagle. "We hope it serve you well in the future." I nodded as they loaded it onto my ship.
"Until we meet again my friends and with my new portal doors in or near your villages I hope it is soon." They nodded before Spirit Roamer walked forward.
"Until next we meet may your spirit Soar like your spirit guide Soaring Eagle." I nodded before I boarded my ship to begin my journey home but as soon as we were on the water.
3 weeks later
We had just docked back on my own island and I was happy to be back on my own island and from the greeting I got from my dragons and animals they were happy to have me back as well. I greeted each of them before I began getting to work on unloading my ship. Fortunately I didn't pick up as many things as I normally did on my trips so this one wasn't going to take as long as it normally did which would give me some time to go to Berk and let them know I was home along with letting them know what's happened on my latest trip but first things first. I pulled out the crystal island piece and looked at it as I turned it in my hand before turning my attention to the volcano. I smiled knowing this little piece was going to be an interesting addition to my island so without hesitation I mounted Toothless and we took off.
After we arrived at the statue we went through the motions of it opening up the ground to release the crystal map before the new piece flew out of my hand and into its slot. Soon as it was in its slot I saw the familiar glow before the ground shaking came as I ran to see the new land rise from the ocean. From what I could tell it was divided into three different environments which consisted of the three types of environments with a large plot being forested, one being wide open planes and the last part being open desert. I knew I'd need to explore the land but that would have to wait till after I unloaded my ship and went to Berk to let everyone know I'm back while also dealing with the multiple questions that would come with it. I just hope the other tribes hadn't sent any more bridal candidates to try and win my heart while I was away.
1 hour later
The elk skull the Wendigo wore was now hung up on the wall in my trophy room, under it on a white marble pedestal that came up to my waist in height with the Desert Flower's pendant and next to that was the skull of The Great Head which sat on a foot-tall white marble pedestal. The totem pole they gave me now rested in the garden to watch over it while I had taken all the seeds for the herbs and planted them in the herb section of my farming garden. Thanks to the pan flute I got from pan they were already sprouts coming out of the soils surface.
Toothless and I had just landed in front of the Great Hall where I'm sure most of the people were likely to be since it was lunch time. I had my new spirit bow and arrow quiver on my back since I had the feeling Gobber will want to examine them since he's wanted to do that with all my other weapons. I pushed open the doors and saw everyone sitting around enjoying their meals but yet to notice us entering through the door. I smiled and signaled Toothless to stay back as I snuck across the hall and made my way to my father's table. As expected my dad was eating enough for three people so I snuck up behind him and whispered into his ear.
"You should really go easy on the food dad." He jumped and turned to face me yelling.
"Hiccup!"
"Hey dad how've you been?" That was all I could get out before my dad had me in a hug before he put me down as Gobber patted my back and asked.
"And how was this trip lad?" Everyone had begun to gather around me. "Any monsters for you to fight on this one?" Everyone chuckled as I shrugged.
"Oh, just a cannibalistic spirit, giant flying head and evil witch with the ability to turn into a coyote monster so not that much." I saw the looks on their face but as my dad opened his mouth to speak I held up my hand. "I know dad, start talking." He nodded before sitting down before everyone followed his example as I begun my story of my latest trip.
1 hour later
Everyone was back at their tables enjoying their meals while I sat down with my dad and Gobber enjoying a slice of pie as Gobber laughed when I told him about some of the fights I got into when with the Blackfoot tribe. He smiled at me as he said.
"Lad why is it that every time you go somewhere new you wind up fighting some monster and gaining gifts from the gods of those lands?" I swallowed the piece of pie that was in my mouth.
"Trust me Gobber when I say I have no idea despite the fact that I've been wondering that same thing since Greece." My dad then said.
"Well either way you aren't going to be doing any more travelling for a long time."
"No arguments there." They both stared at me in what I assume was shock. "Maya is due to have her cubs soon and I want to be there for her and besides that the Bazaar is going to be brought in soon so I have to deal with and I'd like to test out my new arrows to get a feel for what they can do." They nodded before Gobber held out his hand.
"Mind if I have a look at one of them lad?" I shook my head.
"Sorry Gobber but until I know what they're capable of I don't think it'd be safe." He smiled.
"Oh, come on lad they're just arrows."
"Arrows which were given to me by the spirits and were said to have great powers." Before he could speak my dad put a hand on his shoulder.
"Hiccups right Gobber." He glanced at me. "It's best to let the one who they were made for to learn what they can do before anyone else even looks at them." He pulled his hand back at this and grumbled before I asked.
"Has anything happened while I was away?" Gobber looked at me and chuckled.
"You mean besides multiple people who were looking to marry off their daughters to you coming by then no."
"I take it there were a few people wanting to know where I was?"
"A few would be an understatement lad." He chuckled. "Honestly for the first week after you left not a day went by when a girl or one of her parents coming by the forge asking where you were, when you'd be back and what kind of girl you liked." My dad then said.
"I had to mostly put up with their parents trying to convince me to sign marriage contracts between you and their daughters when I was trying to go about my chiefly duties." I smiled.
"Were you the only ones having trouble with these people?"
"No, the rest of the villages haven't been too happy with the visiting people either."
"What have they been doing to annoy everyone?" Gobber replied.
"Asking around about you like your interests, your likes, your accomplishments, what they can do to get your attention, what your weapon of choice is and more." He then saw the look I was giving him. "Besides that, Snotlouts been complaining about how you've been hogging all the attention even when you're away." I chuckled at this.
"Did they stop coming after a week?"
"Most of them did but a few kept coming and they eventually all stopped somewhere after the second week."
"I take it we can expect them to start coming again when they find out I'm back?" My dad answered.
"There's no doubt about that so for now enjoy the calm before the storm Hiccup." I nodded.
"I will since I now have a whole new part of my island to explore." Gobber then said.
"Speaking of your island lad." He then began rubbing his hook. "I don't suppose you could give us another tour of your island since it's obviously gone through some changes but do you think we could do without giving me a bath."
"Gobber that bath was for your own good and you know it."
"A Viking is supposed to smell like that as a badge of honor."
"A badge of honor does not make a person begin coughing up their lunch Gobber."
"Oh, come on lad I didn't smell that bad." Both my dad and I replied.
"Yes, you did!" We looked at each other and laughed.
"Well it's been nice talking to you both but I have to get going so I can get to work on my new islands section and figuring out my new arrows." My dad patted me on the shoulder and said.
"Be careful son and let me know when you're done because I'd like to know what those arrows can do." I nodded before I left the great hall and mounted Toothless before we took off but as we flew off I saw the teens fast approaching, which was all the incentive I needed to get out of there faster.
Nightfall
I collapsed onto my bed and stared up at the blank ceiling smiling as I went over my mental list of what I spent my day doing. I had mostly spent it exploring my new island piece and I had to say I was amazed at what I found on it. The forest was so expansive and my wolves absolutely loved it but when I looked at my younger wolves I knew their time was coming and I'd need to take them to find mates of their own but it didn't mean I had to like it. I know I was just being one of those people who had trouble letting their little ones grow up but I worried and with Maya due to birth her cubs any day now along with winter arriving who could blame me. Anyway, the open plains were pretty impressive with wide-open spaces that I knew would be perfect for riding Phlegon and Aylen and I'm pretty sure my speed stingers were going to love this place as well with no obstacles for them to run into but I hadn't gotten the chance to fully explore them with so much else to see. When I explored the desert, I knew my heat loving dragons were going to enjoy it. There's still a lot of the land to explore but I'd have to save that till tomorrow.
2 weeks later
The last two weeks have been a very busy time for me mostly in good ways though with everything I've been up to. I did a full exploration of my new islands section and made a few discoveries. The desert section had a spirit cave built into one of the mountains. The cave had multiple spiritual paintings on the walls along, a single fire pit at the back of the cave, four totem poles surrounding it and a painting of an eagle above it. The really surprising thing was the message written on a wall inside telling me of the desert guardians that would be loyal only to my family but loyal to me above all others and after I read the message it vanished into the wall as if it were never there. When I left the spirit cave I met the desert guardians, which took the form of a pack of ten coyotes with glowing red eyes and bodies that looked to be made of desert dust and sand. The one at the front of them walked up to me and bowed and when I pet him, it felt as if I was rubbing my hand against sand stone but he seemed to like it. From what I could tell he was the one in charge since he was the only one who approached me before they all ran off into the desert and turned into a dust cloud, which gave me idea to give them the nickname 'the dust bandits' with their leader getting namedCheveyo meaning 'spirit warrior. I always saw them roaming the desert whether it was running over the land, hanging around the spirit cave or looking down on me from the mountains. They'd always come to greet me when I was near though but it was always Cheveyowho greeted me. I'm not sure of all their powers besides being able to turn into a dust cloud and become hard as stone but I had a feeling they could do more but only time would tell.
My new forest was an expansion of my forest and as expected my wolves took to it like fish to water and from what I could tell they liked their new territory. I figured it when the younger wolves found mates it would give them a chance to establish their own territory. I knew it also meant I'd need to do some more construction to help them with dens and releasing more boars for them to hunt down together. I'd seen them with their parents on hunts with the boars I release into the forest and knew they'd have no trouble hunting for themselves.
When it came to exploring the Great Plains, I had to say it was mostly grassland with the occasional river that lead to a large lake in the center. By the lake there was a large teepee and I had to say this teepee was truly surprising since outside it looked like a normal teepee but on the inside, it was a whole lot bigger. Seriously it was the size of the spirit cave on the inside with the walls showing images of my fights with the wendigo, great head and skin walker. In the center of the teepee was a fire pit, two fur couches at the back, fur pelts covering the ground and a stone eagle sat on a pedestal in between the couches. I knew I'd be able to enjoy this place after a ride on Aylen.
I had used these plains to do some practice riding on Aylen bareback in the great planes and she was an absolutely incredible creature to ride in such a free space. It made me as if I was up in the air flying and when her herd of mist horses joined in it felt so incredible I couldn't describe it. As for her relationship with Phlegon I had to say when they first met things seemed to be alright with them just being curious about each other and now it wasn't unusual to find them together grazing in the great plains or racing each other across the paths around my island so I'd say their relationship was forming nicely.
Then there's my new bow and arrows, which I have to say were more powerful than I thought with more abilities than I could think of but I had been able to figure out how to identify the seven types. I could identify what type they were by the types of colors of their fletching and with this information I was able to form a list of their abilities. I'd been testing each of the arrow types out on some training dummies out on the beach and some old shipwrecks in the ship graveyard
There were the fire arrows with red fletching's and when I fired them they would ignite before they would take effect. A single arrow when fired at the ground in front of someone could make a wall of flames when it hit the ground, surround large groups with the wall, when launched into the sky can make a large explosion to signal for help and when fired at something wooden the entire thing would be nothing but ashes in seconds and I'm including ships.
The arrows with light blue fletching were my ice arrows and as expected were very cold but powerful. Their abilities depended on where they were fired like when I fired one of them into the sky they exploded and formed a cloud before it began raining large balls of hail, when fired into open water either a thick layer of ice formed or a large glacier, when fired at a ship ice would rise around the ship capturing it and when they were fired at a person or in this case practice dummy it would freeze the legs capturing the victim.
Arrows with green fletching were my forest arrows and I had to say they'd come in handy when it came to forest fights. When they were fired towards a dummy and landed at their feet they would sink into the ground before vines break out and wrap around the victim before dragging them down and pinning them down to the ground, if they hit the person they never broke the skin but stuck to the torso before sprouting roots and wrapping up the person leaving them tied up as the roots pinned them to the spot they were standing in. When fired at a tree the tree literally comes to life and grabs onto the victim restraining them and when fired at a ship the arrow grows roots before it begins digging into the ships deck and starts tearing it apart. A small ship could be brought down with one arrow while the larger ships required a few more in different places.
I then had arrows with orange fletching. These were earth arrows and they could be pretty tough. They only landed in front of the dummies even when I took the shot from five feet away but when they landed a large pit formed underneath the victim making them fall in before closing up around them leaving them stuck in the ground. The arrows could also cause small earthquakes that make it hard for someone to stand let alone fight, when they hit a mountain they could make a landslide, in a cave they could cause a cave in or make a tunnel and when fired at a sea stack they literally topple over like a tree that had just been chopped down making it crush the ships beneath it.
The water arrows with blue fletching were one of the most powerful arrows when it came to naval fights. When I fired a single arrow into the ocean it made a large wave that tipped a ship over but when I fired one near a ship it created a whirlpool that sucked the ship in. Further more when I fired one at a mast the arrow turned into pressurized water that sliced right through it like a hot knife through yak butter. When I fired it at a dummy it was blasted back like it had been hit by a scauldrens water blast.
My grey arrows had similar powers to those of a skrill and by that, I mean they were lightning arrows and they were pretty powerful. When they hit a ship that ship literally becomes a target for lightning and doesn't last long since the lightning doesn't stop till the ship sinks and when I fired them at the ground lightning would keep striking within in a field of up to twenty feet from where the arrow landed. Then when I hit a person with the arrow it didn't break the skin or armor but it stuck to their body and sent a powerful shock into their body, which would both knock them out and leave them a little crispy.
Finally, there's my wind arrows with white fletching's and when it came to their power it was all about how they were used. When I fired them, it could create a strong wind that could literally push a dead tree over and when they hit a ship it would make a wind that rocked the ship from side to side which would make it hard for the crew to navigate or even stand up. The most terrifying thing though was when I fired one into the air it formed a small but powerful tornado that lasted two minutes but it was long enough to throw a ship around.
Besides that, I learned I could also stab some of my arrows into the ground to form traps for any enemies that may try to invade my home or where I am residing. The way it worked is when stabbed into the ground they would sink into it before giving the earth would give a brief glow and then turn to normal until someone stepped on that spot activating it. Then there is the bow itself that was quite impressive in both capability and strength. When I fired it for the first time it was from the top of my volcano and I then had to go to Berk to apologies to Ragnar since the arrow ended up hitting off his helmet. From what I could tell it couldn't be broken too easily since one day Snotlout was really getting on my nerves when I was practicing my aim so I hit him with my bow and surprisingly there wasn't even a scratch on my bow plus when he tried to hit me back with his sword I used my bow to block it and still not even a scratch on it. Besides that, when it comes to handling the arrows I found out I was the only one who could touch them without being hurt. This is something my dad learnt when he took one of my ice arrows which ended with me spending the day helping defrost his body as listening to him complain about it for an hour since his head was the only unfrozen part. I admit this bow and arrow set were incredibly powerful but like my star sword I was only going to use them when I absolutely needed them like during an invasion.
Now I was enjoying a nice peaceful day on my own island and enjoying a walk on my beach going over how much my life has changed for me from starting out as Berks resident runt and failure to where I am now as a hero and success with my own island. I was sitting in my dragon eye room going through some of the lenses deciding where I should go to next to look for new dragons since it's been a while since I last went on a recruitment trip for new dragons. Another reason I was going is because I had been travelling around the world so much I forgot what it's like to just travel to places closer to home. There were a lot of dragon species on islands within a few days distance of Berk according to the dragon eye and I wanted to find all of them to train them and who knows if I might find some dragons I wasn't looking for. Reading the name of another island said to be the home to a species of dragon I hadn't seen before and wrote down some of the important information on some parchment smiling as I said.
"Time to plan my trip." I then left the room to begin mapping out my course.
4 days later
I was once again on my dragon collecting ship with my Scauldrens pulling it and Toothless at my side. I looked at the list of places I was going to explore and at the top of the list was an island Gobber told me about when I was a child. It was called 'Perilous Paradise'. According to Gobber, it's meant to be filled with Viking swords, belts, helmets and more but very few Vikings who went there come back and those who do keep babbling about living metal. I had a feeling this living metal was some form of dragon like with breakneck bog and how people thought it was some sort of monster destroying ships but it was really just smothering smokebreath dragons. I was looking forward to getting there and solving the mystery of this island and putting another ridiculous legend to rest. It was at that moment the island came into view so I pulled anchor up incase it was smothering smokebreaths causing trouble since I didn't want my ship to be ripped out from under me. I turned to Toothless and said.
"Let's go check out this island bud." He crooned before I mounted him and we took off.
Half an hour later
In the time we'd been exploring this island it we found a place that gave this place got its name. It was a large clearing full of old Viking weapons, helmets, belt buckles and a whole lot of other things. I was definitely going to have to bring my smothering smokebreaths here some time and gather up all the gold and bejeweled things before I left. Still though I hadn't seen hide nor scale of any dragon or any living metal that I'd been warned of. I picked up a small gold sculpture as I wondered how all of this stuff got here. It was then Toothless turned towards a pile and began growling as he got in front of me in defensive position.
I was confused at first until the metal began moving so I prepared my eagle shield and sword incase it meant trouble. It was then a large black dragon that seemed to be made of black metal rose out of the pile before turning towards us and growling. I folded up my shield and dropped my sword before I signaled Toothless to calm down to show this dragon we weren't a threat. When he did the dragon kept its eyes on me and after a few seconds I realized it wasn't looking at me but at my sword on the ground. I picked it up using my foot and tossed it towards the dragon but when it was close enough the sword seemed to float out of the air and attach itself to the dragon's hide. It was then the dragon lowered its head to the sword and breathed a hot iron fire onto the sword melting it into the other metal which I now realized was covering its actual hide like armor. It turned back to me as I pulled out my dagger and as expected it flew onto the dragon before the dragon melted it into its armor. Once it was done it turned back to me as I slowly walked towards it with my hands out in front of me as I said.
"I don't have any more weapons I can spare for your armor but I'd like us to be friends." It raised its long neck and tilted it as it stared at me. "I'm not here to hurt you!" It lowered its head and leaned into sniff me as I held completely still before it pulled its head back as I held my hand out and looked away and it wasn't long before I felt his scaly muzzle against my hand, smiled and turned to face Toothless as I said. "Looks like we have a new friend bud." He crooned and walked up to greet our new friend who I could now tell was a male. "How's about for a name we call you Saber?" He just growled and nuzzled my chest. "I'll take that as a yes." He just growled, as I looked around at all the stuff. "Do you think you can help us find all the stuff worth taking back?" He just crooned before he began digging through one of the piles.
4 hours later
We were back on my ship with a pen full of gold items along with a few belt buckles that I'm sure my dad and Gobber along with a few other members of the tribe would like and Saber resting in one of the pens. In the past few hours I had done a bit of research on Saber and found out he's a dragon known as swordstealer. They have magnetic skin, which explains why my sword flew onto his hide when it got close to him. They were also known to raid old battlefields and armories in order to collect swords, shields and more metal things in order to form a coat of armor that covers their entire body. I knew that in the future Saber would come in handy for looting old battlefields or surfaced shipwrecks for anything that might be valuable since his magnetic skin will come in handy. It was then another island came into view and I signaled my Scauldrens towards it so we could explore it since the dragon eye called it 'The Spiders Nest' but why I had no idea since the lens just showed the islands location but not what lived there. I was hoping I might be able to find what lived there and or at least a dragon eye lens to tell me what used to live there if the things that lived there had migrated. It didn't take long for us to dock and when we did I turned to Toothless and Saber as I said.
"Let's check out this spider nest guys." They growled and nodded as we hopped off the ship and began our expedition into the forest.
Half an hour later
In the time we had been exploring the forest I hadn't seen anything so as far as I could tell, it was just a normal forest with nothing strange about it. We saw the occasional wild boar that went running as soon as they saw my dragons but other than that nothing. It was, as we got deeper when things got stranger and, in some ways, creepier. There were no boars, birds or animals but the occasional bones along with the fact that it seemed to be getting darker as we got deeper. Put all these things together and you have a perfect scene for a scary story. It didn't help that I felt like I was being watched from above but whenever I looked around I didn't see anything but I could tell my dragons felt the same way if them looking around and growling was any indication. It was as I looked around for whatever was watching us I noticed something stuck to a tree and flowing in the wind. I walked up to it and had Saber lift me up by the back of my armor so I could get it. When I had it he lowered me down to the ground as I examined the item in my hand and asked.
"Now what do we have here?"
I looked at the item and saw it to be some sort of white silk but from what I could tell it wasn't like regular silk since not only did it feel different but seemed to be made of some type of material I'd never seen before. In some ways it reminded me a lot of a spider's web since it was also sort of sticky. I ran it through my fingers a few times to get a feel for it so I could possibly understand what it was made of but to no avail. It was then I heard my dragons growl before I turned to them and saw them looking up at something before I heard a growl from above. I looked up and saw some sort of dragon looking down at me with four eyes that were all glaring down at me. It then split its lower jaw open as it opened its mouth before it blasted some white substance towards me. I ducked and rolled out of the way of the stuff before I realized it was that strange silk I found stuck to the tree. It then let out another strand towards me but I dodged again before Toothless and Saber each fired a blast towards the spot above the beast making it fall to the ground but it didn't stay down for long. It got back up and glared at us as I signaled Toothless and Saber to surround it to keep it from getting away. It looked at them before its eyes landed on me and it glared as I said.
"We don't want to hurt you!" It just glared at me as I reached into my bag and pulled out a fish and tossed it to the dragon that sniffed it before shooting out some of that white silk like substance to the fish and using it to pull the fish back into its mouth. "See now we just want to be friends."
It just kept glaring at me as I slowly walked towards it until it growled letting me know I was close enough before I held out my hand and looked away. I held out my hand for what felt like hours before I felt its scales against my hand and I smiled as I slowly turned to face the dragon and saw it pulling its muzzle away and looking at me expectantly. I smiled at it and said.
"There now see we don't want any trouble." It just growled before sniffing at my bag but I knew what it wanted so I reached in, pulled out a fish and held it by the tail. "Is this what you want?" It shot out some of that white silk to the fish and pulled it back into its mouth before chowing down on it. "I'll take that as a yes." When it finished it looked at me expectantly? "I don't have anymore." It just kept staring at me before walking up to me and nuzzling me as I chuckled and patted its head. "Your welcome." It was then I knew I had trained new dragon and noticed this one was male. "Now do you know if there's anything on this island that might be interesting?" He growled before he led us away however as he did I took notice that he had six purple legs, green scaled body, pale yellow underbelly, no wings and his mouth didn't split at the bottom but had pieces on the sides which made it look that way. (AN: The mouthpieces are called Chelicerae and are mostly found on spiders.)
1 hour later
My new dragon who now had then name Webster was resting in one of the pens while Toothless rested in the pen across from his and Saber sat in the pen next to Webster's. I was in my quarters sitting down on my bed and looking at my latest dragon eye lens resting in the palm of my hand. It turns out this one held information on Webster's species that are known as silkspanner dragons. They are known as spider-dragons due to their spider like qualities and abilities like how they're able to spit silk like webbing from both their mouths and rear ends to create webs that they used to trap their prey. They also used these webs to glide by weaving it between their legs and filling their stomachs with air while also using the thread to float across the water. I knew I might be able to use his silk in the future to form stronger ropes and traps. It was then I put the lens down on my nightstand and walked towards the top deck to see where we were.
"What's wrong?" They pointed their heads in the direction of something floating in the water and from what I could tell it was something that had them worried so I mounted Toothless. "Let's go check it out bud."
He growled before we took off towards the thing. When we got there, I saw it was a wounded dragon floating in the water that looked up at me and roared before I signaled my Scauldrens to come in closer so we could get it on my ship so I could tend to it. Once my ship was close enough I had Webster use his webbing to help pull the dragon aboard. I was able to see it had a nasty scratch on its leg and noticed it was glaring at me while trying to cover up its wounded leg. I raised my hands and said.
"Easy there now, we just want to help you but you have to let us."
I noticed this one was male and was glaring at me but my dragons walked up from behind me and growled back. This seemed to subdue it enough for me to get a better look at the leg and begin tending to it.
1 hour later
I was now pinned to the deck by the dragon we pulled out of the water as it covered me in slobber from its licks. I tried my best not to laugh and get some of that slobber in my mouth since if there's one thing I knew about dragon saliva it was that it tasted disgusting. I was finally able to push the dragon off me and laugh a bit as I rubbed some of the slobber off my face. I looked at the dragon that had turquoise green scales with yellowish patterns and was now panting like a dog with its tongue hanging out of its mouth. I recognized it as a mudraker and I knew that I had this dragon trained if the way it was acting like a loyal dog was any indication. I rubbed his head and asked.
"Now what should we name you big guy?" He just kept wagging his tail and letting his tongue hang out of his mouth. "How's about we name you Sonic because of your blasts and how you can use them to find your way around dark areas?" He just crooned and nuzzled my chest. "I'll take that as a yes." After that I continued to tend to his leg.
2 hours later
We had just docked on an island that was known to be mostly rocks and dry desert but according to the dragon eye this small island was home to a species of dragon, which enjoys the desert. I hopped off my deck wearing my desert armor with Toothless at my side while Saber and Webster were staying behind to keep an eye on Sonicso he didn't injure his leg even more, which wasn't easy since he was rather playful so he kept running around and risked reopening the wound on his leg. Toothless and I then began our walk onto the island.
Half an hour later
We walked through the sand and still hadn't seen any form of life except for the dry grass that thrives in these types of environments. I turned to Toothless to tell him it was time to do a search from the air but before I could I heard a dragons roar from above. We looked up and saw a bright orange dragon flying towards us and I smiled since I knew that this dragon was the species I had come looking for. A Moldruffle! When it got closer to the ground Toothless growled at it as it looked down at us. Toothless looked up at it and roared before it came down for a landing and tilted its head in what I assume was curiosity. I slowly walked towards it as it growled but I held out my hands before I said.
"Easy there now big guy, I just want to get to know you better."
It slowly walked up to me as I stopped walking and it started circling me. He stopped from time to time to sniff me as I held still. When he pulled away I looked away and held out my hand to bond with him and it wasn't long before I felt his scaled muzzle against my hand. I turned and smiled at him as I gave a gentle scratch before I asked.
"Aren't you friendly?" It just purred. "Now I don't suppose you have any hidden abilities to help decide on a name."
He growled before he backed away and turned away from me as he began flapping his wings and taking off the ground slightly. It was then his wings caught fire before it used its tail to fan the flames. It then flapped its wings and tail forward launching as it released fireball from its mouth. These flames combined formed a very large fireball that I'm sure would incinerate its target easily but all it hit was sand that now had a large black mark on it. I turned back to the Moldruffle and said.
"After that performance I think the perfect name for you would be Pyro." He just growled before nuzzling my chest as I pet his head before leading him back to the ship.
3 hours later
We just docked and began leading my new dragons to the stables and looking at them compared to my stable I knew it was time for an expansion. Giving Saber his own metal filled den since the last thing I need is he and my Smokebreaths going at each other and making a new room for Webster so he could weave a web and make it feel more comfortable for himself. I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me with both the renovations to my stables and helping my new dragons settle in. My next few days were going to pretty busy for me but in some ways, this was a good thing since it meant I would be able to spend some more time with my animals and dragons. I just hoped to have some peace while I worked with nobody bothering me, especially women but I knew I'd have to deal with some girls since I needed to open up the bazaar soon. I just hoped that when I did the merchants didn't bring their daughters in an attempt to set them up with me since I am not looking for a relationship now but someday I'd like to find a nice girl to settle down and start a family with. For now though I'd like to enjoy my adventures and making new discoveries. To be honest I didn't know what my future held but I knew I'd be able to deal with it with or without my dragons after everything I've been through.
AN: Hey all I am back from vacation and it was great but now my creative juices are running a little low so the next chapter might take a while. If you have any ideas let me know and I will consider them but please do not bring up the defenders of the wing, the wing maidens or the dragon hunters because they come in at a much later time. Also if you want China or Japan don't worry they shall come soon enough but until then be patient and I shall see you soon.
