Dragon eye of the beholder

Imperfect harmony

When Darkness falls

Hiccups POV:

It's been four weeks since me and Astrid had to pretend to be courting and I am happy to say that nothing big has happened since then. Things have been pretty quiet around both my island and Berk with no problems whatsoever meaning I've been able to kick back and enjoy some down time with both my dragons and animals. I've been able to give all my whispering deaths and Quake long teeth brushings that they were all too happy to receive, join my monkeys in giving Bladewing a long backscratching that turned him into little more than a purring puddle, enjoy some nice long swims with my tidal classes and Kal, enjoy a good book with a goblet of water in my Egyptian desert with Nylene resting her head on my lap, sitting back and enjoying the view from the Griffins roost with Plutarach, running through my Indian desert with the dust bandits at my sides, sitting by the lake as I watched Phlegon and Aylen race each other through the grassy planes, playing with the jaguar cubs in the jungle as I listen to the birds singing, watch Volcana play in the volcano with Damen keeping an eye on her, visit Breakneck Bog's smothering Smokebreaths and gather a ton of gold from their nest, visit my mines on dragon island to collect a full storage holds worth of gems and sit with Opal as we watched my ice breathing dragons help Glacia enlarge her nest since she wanted a bit more room to move around.

Among doing other things with my dragons and animals I'd also kept my training up using my mirror and it was through my training I learnt something new about my arm and my star sword. When I channel Toothless' plasma blast through my arm I'm also able to channel it into my star sword making it glow purple and when I slash it in a strike I'm able to send a purple plasma blast shaped like a slash out of it. When I did this for the first time I ended up slashing two trees down and singeing where they were cut. All I knew is this was definitely going to come in handy in future battles and along with that I also learned if I channeled the red crystal I could ignite my sword without letting loose a slash shaped flame. Besides that I also learned I could channel those crystals into the rotating blade on the top of my hand making the blade either a hot purple blade or a small flaming spiral and when I did either of these the blades extended a bit so they went past my knuckles. Other than that I also learned how to remove my prosthetic but when I did it hurt a bit and where a stomp should be was a golden plate. When I took my prosthetic off though I learnt I could still control it like I did the hand when I launched it but still heart when I put it back on so I decided to only take it off if I really needed to. Other than that, things have been pretty quiet and I hoped things would remain this way for a good long time.

Currently I was back in Athens for a visit and to hopefully talk with Hephaestus about some problems that I've been having with my portal pendant and my prosthetic that I've been meaning to deal with but kept forgetting. The problem is how they seem to be pushed away from each other by some kind of invisible force so they could never touch and was hoping Hephaestus might be able to help me out since he was the god of the forge plus the only god I knew who I might be able to talk to face to face since he still worked at the blacksmith shop as Aetees. As I walked through the Greek market place I was glad my golden arm was hidden by my armor or I'd never get any peace from the locals, most of which were staring at me to make sure it really was me. It was then the old forge came into view and I could hear the sound of metal being hammered from inside before I walked in smiling at the sight of Aetees with his back turned to me as I asked.

"Want some help old friend?" He stopped and turned to face me with a shocked look that quickly turned to one of joy as he said.

"Heracles, you old sneak, come here and let me get a look at you." I smiled and walked up before he put his hands on my shoulders and began looking me up and down. "You look good lad." He then leaned forward and whispered. "Later I'd like the chance to check out that new arm of yours lad." I gave him a nod.

"So, want some help here in the forge?" He smiled.

"I'd love some help forging some new swords lad."

"Then let's get to work."

Nightfall

I was back on the island where I kept Toothless when I first came to Greece only this time Hephaestus was out of his human form and examining my prosthetic arm so he could figure out why the pendent acted the way it did with the arm. As he did this I went over what I had to deal with today in the forge when word got out that I was back in Athens. Multiple people came by to ask me what my latest adventures involved while more than a few girls came by to flirt with me but Aetees was able to chase them off but I could tell they'd be back which is why as soon as Hephaestus was done helping me I was going home. I was brought out of my thoughts when Hephaestus passed me my prosthetic back and said.

"It's an impressive piece of work in my opinion." I nodded as I shut my eyes and grit my teeth in pain from putting it back on.

"I agree with you on that but any idea why the pendant's acting the way it does around it?"

"Well the best I can tell is that their magic is clashing but don't worry I can call Hermes and speak with my old Celtic pal Lugh to see if there's anything we can do but you're going to need to stick around till the alterations are made but don't worry since I should be able to get Hermes and Lugh here soon." I nodded.

"How long is soon?"

"Hard to say since we have to first clear it up with our leaders." I nodded before taking a seat on a nearby rock as Hephaestus disappeared in a flash of gold sparkles.

1 hour later

I was leaning back on the rock looking up at the stars, which always showed such remarkable beauty to me ever since I was a child. They always gave me a sense of peace when things were tough and to this day they still had that effect on me. It was then I heard something and looked towards the sound to find Hephaestus appear with Hermes and Lugh at his sides. They smiled at me before Hephaestus said.

"Sorry for the wait Hiccup but it took a while to convince our respected leaders to allow us to go through with this." I nodded.

"It's alright since it didn't take that long." Lugh then stepped forward.

"Hephaestus filled us in on what was going on but don't worry it'll be an easy fix since I just didn't take the pendant and the magic that surrounds it into account when I created the prosthetic." I nodded before he held out his hands out to take my prosthetic, which I did but had to grit my teeth in pain when I removed it. "Sorry I can't do anything about the pain." I nodded.

1 hour later

They were finally done make the modifications to my prosthetic but I wasn't allowed to view it since they had to concentrate on merging their magic which was not an easy thing to do even for gods. When they finished they presented the prosthetic back to me as Lugh said.

"All the alterations are done Hiccup so you shouldn't have any more problems." I smiled and put my prosthetic back on and winced in pain.

"Thank you, Lugh, but why didn't it have this trouble with my weapons?"

"Because I made the arm to accept all magical weapons but I didn't take your pendent into account." I nodded but then realized he didn't give me back my pendent.

"Where is my pendent by the way?" Hermes appeared in front of me and answered.

"Right under your stone of good fortune and to get it just think of it like you do with your weapons but it'll only work when you've earned the blessing of the gods of the land you're in." I looked down at the palm of my hand and focused on my Stone of good fortune which stuck out before flipping around to reveal my pendent and smiled.

"This'll make it easier to carry around and now I won't have to worry about it either being stolen or losing it by accident." It was then Lugh asked.

"By the way Hiccup might I ask what abilities you've learned the prosthetic has?" I listed what I knew it could do before Lugh smiled. "Sounds like you know a few of its abilities but it can do a whole lot more lad." This got my attention.

"It can do more?"

"A lot more but you're going to have to find out those abilities out yourself." I smiled at him.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." I then turned to Hermes. "Hermes I was hoping to ask you something about the pendent that I've been wondering for a while but never got the chance to ask."

"Well whether I answer or not depends on the question you ask."

"You see I've been thinking that I'd be able to get a bit more done in some areas like my mines when it comes to transferring things if I could take my larger dragons through the portal but they won't fit through the portal door."

"Well if that's the case then there's an easy solution."

"And that would be?"

"You can build an archway on your island like the one you have for your bazaar but this one will connect to the ones you set up on the different islands you set up on."

"Does there need to be anything special about these arches."

"All you have to do is build the arch, press your pendant against it and concentrate which will allow the pendant to do the rest of the work." I smiled knowing I'd be able to have an easier time withmy mining operation on dragon island id I set up an archway like this on dragon island.

"Thanks Hermes and thanks to all of you for all your help with my arm." Hephaestus replied.

"It's the least we could do after everything you've done for our people and besides you're going to need all the help you can get for what's coming."

"What do you mean?"

"You'll know soon enough lad." Before I could reply to that they disappeared again as I shook my head. "I hate it when they do that." I shrugged and decided it was time to head home since I'd face whatever it was that's coming like all the other enemies I've faced in the past.

10 days later

I was flying over the ocean with Toothless enjoying a simple flight just for fun since I've been so busy lately I've barely had time to enjoy with him but it hasn't been the bad kind of busy. It was the kind of busy I enjoyed since there was no danger, no problems, no crazed girls bothering me but just my own chores, spending time with my dragons and animals and also working on my own projects. This was the kind of busy I enjoyed since these were things that I often enjoyed doing so I never found them to be troublesome. Another thing I had done was test out the arches that Hermes said I could use my pendent to make by building one on Dragon Island in my mine and another at the back of my garden. The ones I made were made out of regular rock and looked normal but when I pressed my pendent into them things got interesting. My pendent gave a golden glow that seemed to flow into the arch before vanishing leaving the arch looking just the way I made with no differences. When I did the same thing to the arch on Dragon Island however a portal that lead to the arch on my island formed and I learnt when I focused I could make it change to the one that I opened to have the bazaar. With these new arches up and running I was able to gather a whole lot more from those mines since I didn't have to worry about storage space on my ships or how much my dragons could carry back. It was then I was brought out of my thoughts when I saw something in the water that made my blood run cold and gave me the feeling that my peaceful days were coming to an end as there trying to stay afloat was trader Johan.

2 hours later

I was flying over the ocean on Toothless with Opal, Saber and Reaper at my sides as we flew towards the ship graveyard while I went over everything that happened after fishing Johan out of the sea. I found out Dagur had escaped after helping a few Berserkers and Thunderheads including Snorre before they stole Johan's ship and escaped Outcast island. My dad was quick to ask me to track them down and recapture them which I was all too happy to agree to. I went over my maps of the areas of the archipelago where Dagur and Snorre were sailing towards but it was Johan who told me where I could find them. He told me they were most likely heading towards a graveyard of ships where he keeps his riches and treasures so there was no doubt they were going there to gather the treasures and use it to put together a new armada. Fortunately, this was the same shipyard I got the ships I restored from and fortunately I'd already looted the place months ago. They didn't know this however meaning they'd still go there allowing me an opportunity to capture them and take them back to Outcast island. I knew it wouldn't be easy to take them down but I knew this area well enough that I'd have an easier time taking them down and besides that I had my eagle shield and star sword for close combat and my spirit bow with some of my arrows that restrain but don't do any damage since the last thing I needed to do was sink any of the ships with the men into the water that was full of giant screaming eels. It was then the ship graveyard came into view and I turned to my dragons as I said.

"Keep your guard up guys, the men we're tracking are very dangerous and won't hesitate to kill any one of us." They each gave a growl. "Let's go!" We then flew into the shipyard to begin our search.

Half an hour later

Toothless and me were in the storage hold of one of the ships while my other dragons checked the other ships for any sign of Dagur, Snorre or their men. As I walked down the hall I thought back to the insignia on the sail of the ship that Toothless and I were now on. It had the same insignia as the ship where I found the dragon eye along with some dragon proof cages on the upper deck meaning there might be something worth taking, like possibly a dragon eye lens. It was then I reached the end of the hall and released my star-sword before using it to push the door open incase there were any traps that might be triggered by the door opening. I was happy to see there wasn't one as I walked into the commander's quarters I looked around but I didn't find anything of interest besides a decorated shield that had a Devilish Dervish on it but other than that it looked normal but there was something about the shield. It was then I saw what made the shield interesting; a dragon eye lens was imbedded in the shield where the eye of the Devilish Dervish was. I took out a gronkle iron dagger and stabbed it next to the lens before lifting it out. I caught it as it fell out but before I could examine it though I heard Opal roar from above the decks and ran as fast as I could with Toothless behind me.

We burst out from the lower deck only to find much to my anger my dragons in cages alongside Snorre and his men while Dagur stood in front of them smiling with two Berserker soldiers at his sides holding crossbows. I glared at him as Toothless curled around me protectively before I signaled him to calm down since I didn't want to put my now caged dragons at risk. Dagur gave me a smile as he walked towards me with his hands raised as he said.

"Hiccup, did you miss me?" He lowered his arms. "Because I missed you, everyday since you left me on Outcast Island." Toothless then growled. "And you to Mr. Nightfury." It was then Snorre made his presence known by growling at Dagur and saying.

"This wasn't part of the deal!" He then reached through the bars to try and grab Dagur. "We agreed to split the treasure equally." A guard hit his hand as Dagur smiled and said.

"I'm not the kind to share my treasure so shut up." He then gestured to me. "Can't you see my brother and I are having a moment?" I glared at him as I said.

"I am not your brother nor are we having any sort of moment." He frowned.

"Really because I was." He then smiled and gestured at me. "Look at you, all grown up and sporting what I assume is a new signature look with your right arm covered in gold." He then grinned. "I bet that brings the ladies in like crazy hmmm." I didn't show any emotion.

"What are you here for Dagur?" Snorre then answered.

"Isn't it obvious lad?" I turned to him. "We're here for the treasure." Dagur then replied.

"Yeah I'll take the treasures this place has." I chuckled. "What's so funny?"

"Dagur this place has no treasures whatsoever and I know." He frowned.

"How do you know?"

"Dagur, I looted the ships in this graveyard months before you found out about my dragons." He growled at this before he noticed my closed fist and smiled.

"Well in that case I'll just take whatever it is you have in the palm of your hand." I opened my hand to show the lens.

"It's not worth much and I know you're not going to be able to use it since I've got the only item that can allow it to be used." He took the lens while waving his free hand.

"Details, details but must we always do the same dance Hiccup?" He pulled me close. "I will admit though, you are a fabulous dancer." Toothless growled and got ready to attack but I ran up to him and rubbed his head.

"Easy there Bud." Dagur chuckled.

"That's right Mr. Nightfury, today is not the day but it's coming and soon." He then smiled. "Now if you'll excuse me I have people to meet, riches to steal, an army to build, revenge to plot." He leaned down. "Oh so much to do and so little time, isn't this exciting Hiccup?" He gestured to me. "You must've been so bored since you locked me up." I shrugged.

"In the archipelago yes but around the rest of the world not so much considering all the weird things that I seem to attract whenever I visit a foreign land." He raised an eyebrow before smiling.

"You'll have to tell me sometime but alas my time here has come to an end." He grabbed me by the shoulders and pulled me close. "Farewell for now 'Brother', till we meet again." He pushed me away and began walking to the ships railing. "On the field of battle!" He jumped over followed by his men as I ran to the railing and saw them sailing away on Johan's ship with the dragon eye lens before Snorre said.

"What are you waiting for?" I turned to face him and his men who had all been forced into a single cage. "Let us out of here!" I glared at him before putting on an emotionless mask as I walked up to the cage.

"You know these waters are full of giant screaming eels." I then glared at him and grabbed him with my prosthetic to pull him into the bars. "Try and give me an order again then you and your men will be their breakfast, do you understand?" He gulped and nodded making me smile. "Good and don't worry about being let out because I'll let you out when we're back on Outcast island." I then turned to my caged dragons as I released my star-sword. "I'll have you guys out in a second." I then sliced through the locks on their cages releasing them before I mounted Toothless and gestured to the Thunderheads. "We'll come back for them after we grab Dagur." They all growled before we flew after Dagur but when we got close he fired a catapult at us but missed making me smile and yell at Dagur. "YOU MISSED BROTHER!" He just smiled.

"HICCUP, YOU SHOULD KNOW BY NOW I NEVER MISS!" I heard a crash and saw he hit the ship the Thunderheads were on. "WHAT'LL IT BE HICCUP, CATCH ME OR SAVE THE THUNDERHEADS?" He chuckled. "TOUGH ONE THAT MAKES ME GLAD I'M NOT IN YOUR SHOES!"

I gave him a glare before we turned around to save the Thunderheads from the giant screaming eels that were beginning to slither up the ships deck. I had my dragons grab the cage by the top and carry it out of the reach of the eels while making sure the Thunderheads could still see them so they'd know if they tried to mess with my dragons the eels were what awaited them. I then signaled my dragons to wait for Toothless and me while we went and got the lens back from Dagur. Long-story short we got the lens before he realized we were there and were able to get out of there before he could react.

Nightfall

I was lying on my bed going over everything that had happened today after me and my dragons recaptured the Thunderheads and dropped them off at Outcast Island. I had informed my dad and the council about what had happened between Dagur and I. They were happy to hear that Dagur didn't have the funds to create a new armada yet but told me to keep my guard up since he was most likely to come after me for putting him away. On a brighter note Mrs. Hofferson gave me some freshly made bread to thank me for putting Snorre back behind bars since Astrid wouldn't leave her room after hearing that he'd escaped but who could blame her for being nervous after what Snorre did to her. As for the dragon eye lens, it now rested with the other lenses except I had gone through the information it held which was mostly about Devilish Dervish dragons. As for Dagur, he and his men were able to escape but I knew I'd see them again since he wasn't the type of guy to stay away for long and he'd be after me again. Still though he was able to escape into the great unknown that is a way I've never gone before for some reason. I sighed as I looked up at the ceiling and made the decision to go after Dagur but also use this opportunity to gather more dragons and possibly build an outpost somewhere but for now I needed to get some sleep for the upcoming work which would start with convincing my dad to not complain about me leaving Berk with Dagur out there. I might be able to convince him not to complain by reminding him that Dagur is mainly after me so it might help draw attacks away from Berk. All I know is things are most probably going to be very difficult for me tomorrow.

2 days later

These past two days have been busy and the surprising thing about it all was that convincing my father to let me build an outpost was the easy part since he was all for it as long as I made weekly reports on what's going on. This was something I agreed upon and after telling my dragons and animals that Toothless and me would be making this trip to find the right island on our own I would set up a portal arch bring them some of them through to help construction. The past two days have been filled with me preparing Toothless' saddlebag for the long trip and now we were out over the ocean in the fog of the great beyond trying to reach the end. In my arm I had my star-sword, crystal spear, spirit bow, three forest arrows, along with a red, purple, mist white, light green and blue crystal while I had my eagle shield on my left arm. It felt like forever since we entered the fog and I could tell Toothless was getting tired so I rubbed his head and said.

"Don't worry bud, we'll rest on the next island we come across." He crooned at me but it was at that moment we broke through the fog and into daylight bringing a smile to my face. "Finally some sunlight." It was then I noticed an island bringing a smile to my face before I heard something. "What is that?" I could tell Toothless could hear it to and it seemed to be pulling him towards it. "Okay bud we'll campout on that island tonight." He seemed to ignore me and just flew down towards it.

Nightfall

I was sitting on a beach while resting against Toothless as I looked up at the stars smiling since this place was just so beautiful. Seriously I was considering building my base here but before I did that I wanted to get a feel for the island to see what it's like and maybe find out what that sound I heard earlier was. For now though I just needed to relax and enjoy the evening since for all I know tomorrow could bring some trouble for me to deal with. I stood up and gave Toothless a gentle scratch on the side of his neck as he crooned and said.

"Goodnight bud!" He let out a croon as I made my way to my sleeping mat before lying down and drifting off to sleep.

Morning

I got up and stretched as I smiled since I just had a wonderful nights sleep with no noise other than the music of the night and the crashing of the waves. I looked back to greet Toothless only to see he wasn't there but there were tracks leading into the forest so I'd at least be able to find him. I looked at the tracks before I shrugged figuring he must've gone off after something he saw like maybe a rat or something. He did like chasing smaller things like an overgrown cat but I always though it was cute so I began following the tracks in hopes of finding my dragon. I walked for half an hour while calling for Toothless with no luck but I kept my guard up when I heard the bushes rustling. I got ready to draw my weapon but my nerves were put at ease when Toothless pounced on me from behind the bushes and began licking my face as I chuckled and said.

"There you are bud." I pushed him off me. "I was beginning to worry about you." I rubbed his head. "Where'd you run off to?" He replies was to begin circling around me while letting out croons, growls and roars but I knew he was trying to tell me something. "What is it bud?" He then used his muzzle to grab my prosthetic arm and then pull me in a direction as I yelled at him to stop, which he fortunately listened to and let go as I looked at him. "I love the enthusiasm bud but what is it you want to show me?" He just used his head to point in a direction. "Alright bud, let's see what's got you so freaked out." I mounted him and we took off.

We eventually came to land after a few minutes as Toothless began pointing at some bushes to show there was something he wanted me to see. I walked past him and pushed the bushes aside to find much to my horror a giant pile of dragon bones, which was not a good sign. I then noticed an orange rock on the ground but when I picked it up I learned it was actually some kind of solid substance like amber. Toothless then let out a roar regaining my attention as he ran to the other side of the pile with me following. On the other side was the entrance to a small valley that Toothless was running into with me following behind him but when we reached the end I stopped and stared at what there was. It was a large cove surrounded by stonewalls and on the ground or boulders were multiple dragons that were all cocooned in the amber like substance. From what I saw it wasn't hard to figure out that something was capturing dragons in the substance and the breaking them out later to eat them. I walked up to a nearby nadder who Toothless was trying to break free by biting down on a piece that was sticking out whit no success. I examined the cocoon before I pulled my arm back and channeled the mist white crystal to increase the speed and strength of my strike before hitting the cocoon as hard as I could. This sent the cocooned dragon flying and when I examined where I hit I learned all I succeeded in doing was denting the cocoon along with giving it a few cracks but not enough to free the dragon. I gave the nadder a gentle pat on the head to soothe it as I asked myself.

"What did this?"

It was then I heard a strange roar in the distance but it was getting closer so I jumped behind a large boulder and signaled Toothless to follow me. He did so as I looked up to see an orange dragon with yellow bottom come to land on a boulder and spread its wings which I now saw had a unique pattern on them which only enhanced its beauty. It then let out that strange roar that seemed almost like a song as I held Toothless back while the new dragon picked up a cocooned terrible terror and then flew off with it while letting out the roar. Toothless seemed to be trying to follow it and saw his pupils were dilated as I said.

"Snap out of it bud!" He shook his head and growled. "So the song lures dragons in and then it cocoons them before eating them." I rubbed my chin. "It's kind of like the dragon version of a siren." I then snapped my fingers. "I'll call it a deathsong." I then looked around at the dragons and clenched my fist. "We need to break these guys out now but how?"

I ran up to a gronkle and studied the cocoon but didn't have that much time to study it since it was then the deathsong came back. Toothless much to my worry jumped onto a boulder and roared at it before firing a plasma blast at the deathsong but it was too quick and with its thin body was able to easily dodge the blast and return fire with that same amber like substance. I could only watch as Toothless was cocooned with that stuff before I ran up to him but I had to duck underneath a blast from the stuff. I had to dodge three more shots before I turned to Toothless and said.

"I'll be back for you bud." He just crooned as I ran for the way we came in but I took an alternate route in the valley before I accidently slid down a hill and off a small cliff where a light purple thunderdrum was now growling at me. "Hey how's it going?" It just let out one of its sonic blast but I unfolded my eagle shield to block it. "Note-to-self never annoy a wild thunderdrum when its resting."

It then tackled me back which turned out to be a good thing since a blast of the deathsong's amber hit the spot where I was just standing. I watched as it roared up at the deathsong, which roared back in reply before the thunderdrum flew towards the deathsong to attack. Sadly the deathsong used its tail to swat it leaving it stunned long enough to pounce on it. The Thunderdrum was pushed onto its back on the ground, as the deathsong got ready to strike. I ran forward and launched my prosthetic fist forward while using the white crystal to increase the speed. I was able to nail the deathsong in the gut while also sending it flying back into the wall dazing it as I quickly reeled my hand back. The thunderdrum was clearly ready to attack but right now we both needed to get out of there before the deathsong recovered since my crystal was completely drained if the pieces coming out of the palm were anything to go by. I walked up to the side of the thunderdrum that kept glaring at the deathsong as I said.

"You're not going to like what I'm about to do but it's for the good of both us."

I then hopped on its back before it immediately took off into the sky as I held on tightly yelling at it that I was a friend and trying to help. I then remembered that thunderdrums were hard of hearing so I was just wasting both my breath and time by trying to talk to it. Once we were away from the deathsong the thunderdrum dived towards the ground as I did my very best to hold onto its back as tightly as I could. When we landed I wasn't able to hold on any longer and was thrown off the thunderdrums back and onto the ground. I rubbed my head while mentally going over everything that was going on. My dragon was cocooned in strange amber like stuff, I was now being chased by an angry deathsong and the only ally I might have is a wild thunderdrum who can't hear a word I'm saying. It was then I realized something and turned to face the thunderdrum as I said.

"Of course!" I turned to the thunderdrum. "You can't hear what I'm saying so you can't hear his song either which is how you've been able to avoid being captured." The thunderdrum roared at me. "You know what?" I held my hand out. "You're going to help me free my dragon along with all the others and I'm going to make sure that that dragon never bothers you again." After that I looked away before soon enough I felt dry scales underneath my hand and smiled since a minute later the thunderdrum and me were off to free the dragons.

When we got back I examined the cocoons and knew from my last attempt that smashing the cocoon wouldn't work so I needed to think. I looked at some of the amber that had hit the ground and remembered how when it did it was goo that seemed to have a bit of steam coming off it before it cooled and hardened. I figured I might be able to cut into it with a bit of heat so I channeled my red crystal while also releasing my rotating blade. I smiled when I was able to easily cut into Toothless' cocoon and make it crumble when I found the weak spot. Toothless was free and he was happy about it if him nuzzling my chest as I smiled was any indication as I said.

"I'm happy to see you to bud." Sadly our reunion was cut short by the sound of the deathsong returning but the thunderdrum was quick to intercept it from attacking us as I mounted Toothless. "Let's give the thunderdrum some help in relocating that deathsong." He gave a growl of approval before we took off towards them and flew right past the deathsong gaining its attention before it began chasing us making me smile. "Perfect." We then flew through a valley with it following us as I looked for a way to trap the deathsong before my eyes landed on a cave up ahead bringing a smile to my face as I steered Toothless towards it. "Let's see how well this guy does in caves." Toothless growled as we flew into the cave. "Do your thing bud!" Toothless let out a roar to use his echolocation to find his way around the cave and avoid all the stalactites and stalagmites while the deathsong ran right into them disorienting it. "Alright bud now let's get out of here." He growled in agreement before using his echolocation to find us a way out of here, which wasn't too difficult, and as soon as we were out the thunderdrum hit the boulders above it with a sonic blast before me and Toothless followed it with a plasma blast causing a cave in to block the only exit. "That won't hold him forever but long enough for us to free the other dragons." Toothless growled as we flew back to the cove to get started but when we landed the thunderdrum began pushing me in a direction where I spotted a blue adolescent thunderdrum. "No wonder you stuck around." I kneeled next to the adolescent smiling. "I'll have you out in a moment little guy." I then ignited my rotating blade and got to work.

Half-an-hour later

I smiled as I watched all the now free dragons flying away from the cove now that they were freed from their cocoons but there was one dragon I freed but I didn't recognize the species, flew back down to land in front of me. I admit I wanted to study it a bit but felt it better to let it go before the deathsong broke free. It walked up to me and nuzzled my chest as I chuckled while I rubbed its head and said.

"You're welcome." It then pulled away and looking at me with gentle eyes. "I recommend finding a new place to live since the deathsong forever." It just growled as I mounted Toothless. "Let's get out of here bud."

He growled and nodded before we took off but when we were away from the island I heard a roar that was similar to the deathsong's and sure enough it was pulling Toothless towards it. We turned around and saw the dragon from before was following us. I steered Toothless towards a sea stack so we could see what the dragon wanted since it didn't seem to want to cause any harm and just wanted to see us. When we landed I dismounted Toothless as the dragon landed in front of us again and walked up to me to nuzzle my chest once more while crooning. I rubbed its head smiling as I asked.

"Why are you following us?" It just crooned and continued to nuzzle my chest as I gently rubbed its head and chin. "Do you want to come with us?" It just leaned deeper into my chest as I chuckled. "I'll take that as a yes." I turned to Toothless. "Looks like we've got a new friend bud."

He just crooned and continued to rub while taking in all the characteristics of the dragon I could. As I did so I noticed how it looked a bit like a blue version of the deathsong with less decorated wings that like the flaps were smaller while the jaw was slightly bigger so I'm guessing it was some type of subspecies to the deathsong and this one was female. Then I remembered the song she was roaring and how it pulled Toothless towards her showing the song was actually similar to the deathsong but I doubt she ate other dragons since the deathsong had her cocooned and Toothless seemed fine with her. I just hoped this one didn't attack any of my other dragons since she seemed like a sweet girl. I then decided it was time to give her a name and with her call I asked.

"How's about we name you Siren?" She looked up at me confused. "Sirens are creatures that lure men in with their singing like you do with dragons so I think the name will suit you." She just crooned and continued to nuzzle my chest. "I'll take that as a yes." I then pushed her away, held my hand out and looked away before I felt her lean into my hand bringing a smile to my as I turned to face her. "Welcome to the team Siren." She just crooned at me before I mounted Toothless. "Let's go find ourselves a nice island with no threats guys." They just roared before we took off.

3 days later

The last three days have not been easy for multiple reasons starting with finding a good island to set up on since everyone we came across seemed to have its own problems. I mean seriously one island was infested with very territorial boars; one was full of blue oleander, which is poisonous to most of my dragons except my scauldrens, one was infested with whispering deaths, one had lakes full of eels and more. After one day of searching though we were able to find a good island with fresh water to drink, lots of forested area to set up traps for enemies, high cliffs that would give good sightlines and be easily to defendable and the island offered more. The first night was a bit difficult though since I got the feeling me and my dragons were being watched and on the second night I found out why. There was a large pack of dragons I named night terrors since they were like terrible terrors but bigger and meaner with the ability to group together around a white one to form a giant dragon. Siren was able to fire goo like the deathsong and help me capture it for study but as I learned they formed a large dragon to protect themselves from bigger dragon attacks. I was able to free him and get him back to his pack to scare of some changewings. Other than that nothing much had happened besides me naming Sirens species 'Slithersongs' because when she flies she seems to move in such a way that she seems to slither through the air.

Now it was nighttime and I was in the clearing by the ocean I had decided to set up my outpost in with Toothless and Siren behind me. I was kneeling down in front of the white night terror that's seems to have forgiven me for trapping him if him allowing me to stroke his back was anything to go by. He climbed up my arm and came to rest on my shoulders as I looked around the area smiling before I said.

"This place is perfect for the outpost." The white night terror then let out a small roar in my ear making me chuckle and scratch his chin. "Don't worry little buddy, we'll share the outpost with you and your flock but we're going to need a name for you." He just let out a roar. "How's about Smidvarg after an Old Norse general who was known to easily round his men into formations that were near impossible to defeat on the field of battle." He nuzzled my cheek in acceptance before letting out a roar as I looked out at the clearing. "These next few days are going to be very busy." My dragons just growled in agreement.

AN: Hey all I hoped you all enjoyed the chapter and as you can guess I will be skipping more than a few episodes but can you really blame me? There are literally SEVENTY-EIGHT EPISODES and I am not writing one chapter for every single one of them or I'd never be able to move on from Race to the Edge. Keep in mind that some of the episodes where the riders meet new dragons will be skipped but the dragons that are discovered will be playing characters and many of the episodes I skip will be mentioned in the beginning when Hiccup says what's been going on in the days past. As for merging a few of the episodes, it's because if I don't then the chapters will be incredibly short, seriously part of the reason I wrote the trip to Greece in the beginning was to make it longer than two thousand words and even then it was only in the three thousands when I finished so I decided to merge a few. Anyway if there is an episode you'd like me to write then please place it in either a review or PM and I will see what I can do. To those of you who voted for 'Hiccup travel to new lands' I am sorry that your choice did not win but look at it this way. It means we're a whole lot closer to HTTYD 2, which means closer to Hiccup meeting his mother and going up against Drago and his bewilderbeast. In the mean time please keep your reviews kind and seriously people I have so many faves but get so little feedback so please review so I know you're still alive.
