Chapter 93
Hiccups POV:
It's been ten days since my final battle against Lopaka and in that time not a lot has happened since with the entrance to the monsters realm being closed up no major threats appeared on the islands. The crops had gone back to normal, the fish had returned and life returned to the islands and I had to say it was absolutely beautiful. Other than that I'd been helping the farmers and fisherman restore the tribes food stores to full capacity by having my scauldrens chase fish into their fishing nets and having Toothless hover by the palm trees and used my crystal spear to cut down the coconuts. With the help of my dragons and me the food stores were fully packed within three days and only then did I allow the chiefs to throw a celebration in my honor.
The party was absolutely amazing with the food, the dances, the performances and so much more that I was able to view in the seat of honor between the chiefs. For the party though I didn't wear my armor and used the traditional clothing the chiefs were kind enough to provide me with which consisted of a black wrap around my waist and the shell necklace I had received after slaying the demon shark. Of course this meant everyone saw my prosthetic arm wasn't just a piece of armor, which brought up more than a few questioning looks from everyone but I just promised I'd explain it to them later. At the celebration I learnt a little more about Lopaka like how he was thought to be a legend told to make children behave since his legend began over five hundred years ago showing how powerful he once was. Some people may have thought I might begin to regret destroying his gem and not keeping the power for myself but the truth is I doubt I ever would since that kind of power does not belong in the hands of mortals. As for the trophies from my fights with the monsters I took two teeth from the shark one of which were now crossed together on the wall in my storage hold on my ship, from the spider I still had its fangs but the crystal had turned to dust, from the bat I took its skull, from the monkey thing I got its mask, for the lava monster I took its corpse that was now nothing more than a statue and from my final battle with Lopaka I just took what remains of his necklace.
In the past few days though I've been very busy learning their language along with learning the chiefs are referred to the kahunas, customs and more but I had to say my favorite thing was learning how to surf the waves. I started out having more than a few wipeouts that landed me in the water but after those first few flops I got the hang of it and when there was a good wave I'd often be riding it. There was one experience that I know I'll never forget and that was when I was able to surf inside the wave. The experience was absolutely unexplainable in any way since it was just too amazing with how it felt to be in their for what felt like eternity but it was only a few seconds. I'd also learned how to use their ships and I found it was rather cool how their ships worked and were able to slice through the waves so easily and I had to say it was rather fun doing so and I knew when I got back to my island I was building myself one of the ships to enjoy. As for where I was staying I was offered a hut on all of the islands but I chose Hawaii since it was the largest, had the most food growing so I wouldn't feel like I was stealing food from the hungry, the locals were nice, it had its own hot springs heated by the volcano and most of all it had the best waves to surf. There was one problem though and that was when I used the hot springs I always went with just Toothless at my side but I always felt as if I was being watched but when I looked around or had Toothless check it out nobody was there. Besides that I normally just had to deal with normal problems like people asking me questions, children asking me to tell them stories of the places I've been and of course the occasional women flirting with me all of which I could easily deal with.
As for where I was staying the hut I was given was a modest thing made of grass and wood with a single room where I slept with just enough room for me and Toothless to sleep in. Some people would complain about it being so small but I thought it was cozy and I rarely ever used it with such pleasant weather. It's true Pika offered to have a larger one built but I didn't want to be treated like I was better than anyone else since I preferred to just be treated like a normal guy opposed to some big shot hero. Now I was sitting outside that very hut in my Hawaiian clothing with a chunk of wood in one hand and a whittling knife in the other running it through the wood slowly carving a small tiki as I smiled. I stopped and looked up at Toothless who was busy walking around the beach with four of the local children on his back cheering. This place truly was a wonderful vacation spot and I was no doubt going to come back at some point when I wanted some vacation time away from my island and Berk but with no big cities or wild fans. Here the people respected my wishes of being treated like a normal person and not some big hotshot plus the women weren't constantly flirting with me or constantly trying to get my attention so it was a nice change. It was then I saw Pika walking towards me but I didn't like the grim look on his face so I stood up and said.
"Aloha Pika and what seems to be the problem you want my help with?"
"How do you know there's a problem I need help with?"
"Pika I've been around enough places and dealt with enough leaders to know the look you're giving me."
"Well if that's the case would you help me with this problem."
"What is it?"
"I sent out a large group of fisherman to collect some fish by the reef but none of them returned and I'm worried as my son was with them on this trip."
"Let me guess you want me to go out to find them since you fear something may have happened to them." He nodded.
"I'll be gone as soon as I get my armor on." He stared at me for a few seconds and smiled.
"And here I was worried you'd refuse."
"Are you kidding I enjoy helping people and besides chances are it's just ship wreck because of some large reef." He laughed.
"Thank you Hiccup I appreciate your help and know that if there's anything I can do in return just let me know."
"You and your people already done more than enough for me."
"But how have we done anything?" He raised an eyebrow. "All we've done is have a simple celebration thrown in your honor."
"You've also allowed me to reside in your village, learn your customs, language and much more but best thing of all is you're people have done for me is treat me like a normal person."
"That doesn't happen often?"
"Are you kidding me whenever I visit a new land I always have to deal with some monster and when I'm done people treat me like I'm some kind of god and rarely give me a moments peace."
"How do they do they disturb you?"
"I'll tell you everything when I get back because chances are there's problems out at sea." He nodded before he walked away while I went into my hut to get changed before calling Toothless over and we were off with my Scauldrens following.
Half an hour later
We were flying over the reef and I must admit it was beautiful but so far we've not seen any trace of the ship or the men who were on it. While me and Toothless were keeping an eye out for the ship from above my scauldrens were in the water checking for anything that might act as a clue with Scaulder keeping his head above the waters and Scauldra searching below the waves for any wreckages. It was then I spotted something in the water and let out a whistle towards Scaulder to gain his attention before pointing in the direction of the item and signaling him to fetch it. I had Toothless fly low so we could see what he'd brought up and when I saw what it was I was not happy. It was the ripped up sail from the ship that was sent out and I knew something had gone wrong since the way the sails were ripped up was not something the sea could do. It was then I spotted a wooden plank floating in the water but it looked to have something carved into it and knowing it might be a clue to what happened to the ship and its crew, I launched my prosthetic hand out and grabbed it before pulling it back in. When I did I saw a map was carved into it on one side and on the other was a message reading.
Hiccup
Come to the location on the map alone and bring Lopaka's necklace or the fishermen die!
Signed
The children of Lopaka
I sighed knowing this was a trap since it was pretty obvious compared to the multiple other traps I've dealt with in my time. I knew I shouldn't walk into it but if I didn't the higher the chances were that the fishermen would be killed so I let out a sigh and turned my dragons back towards Hawaii so I could pick up Lopaka's necklace and let Pika know what's happening.
2 hours later
When I had gotten back to Hawaii I let Pika know what had happened along with the message that was left and asked him if he knew anything about these children of Lopaka. Apparently they're well known around the islands as a group that worshiped Lopaka and his power back when Lopaka first made an appearance but everyone assumed they'd died out after Lopaka's downfall. Now it's clear they were all biding their time till Lopaka could return to power but now with him dead they most likely wanted revenge on me for their fallen master. Pika tried to convince me not to go but I reminded him that if I didn't do it then his men would die and I would not allow that to happen if it could be avoided. Knowing there was nothing he could do to stop me he gave me one of his tribes boats so I could get there and wished me luck. As for Toothless he was not happy about it but I locked his tail closed so he wouldn't be able to follow me since it would mean the death of the fishermen. I gave my scauldrens orders to keep watch over the island and make sure no problems came up while I was gone but I could tell they were just as worried as Toothless was.
Now I was on the Hawaiian boat I was given by Pika wearing my regular armor with a satchel holding the necklace on my side holding the necklace as I headed towards the location where the map told me to be so I could save the fisherman and hopefully deal with these 'children of Lopaka' once and for all. I looked up at the sky hoping to find a bit of sunlight in this grim time but sadly the weather matched the situation and was covered in dark storm clouds with the sound of thunder filling the air. I looked ahead and saw a small island with multiple Hawaiian ships docked on the beach but these ones had black sails, wooden spikes on their sides and what looked to be planks that were stood up on the side of them and my guess is they were used to board ships. I came to dock the ship I was on in an opening on the beach and looked around and saw that the part of the island I was on had a forest at the back of the beach where two men holding clubs with shark teeth around the edges were walking towards me. As they walked towards me I saw they were both heavily muscled men wearing black towels around their wastes with the lower parts of their faces tattooed and their hair being shaved on both sides of their heads leaving their hair tied back in a braided ponytail down the middle. I walked towards them and we met in the middle where they pointed the clubs at me or to be more precise at my neck with the shark teeth only a few inches from touching it but I kept calm as the one on the left growled.
"You are to remove your armor leaving it here, come with us and should you try anything it shall mean the death of the captives." I just nodded as I twisted the seal on my chest plate loosening the straps that held my armor before I let it fall to the ground but kept my eagle shield on my arm as one of the men pulled out some rope. "Present your hands behind your back!" I did so before the one holding the rope went behind me and tied my arms behind me and then they lead me away into the forest.
We walked for ten minutes before we came into a clearing made purely of stone with the only signs of any other material were the huts made of dead palm leaves, the weapons the people held made of wood and occasionally shark teeth, the forest around us and the wooden cage that held the fisherman I had come looking for. As for the natives of this island the males were like the ones who came to lead me from the beach with their hair in the same style and tattoos on their lower faces but in different styles. The women however wore the same kind of clothes all in black with the only difference in clothing being having their chests covered while they also had no tattoos that I could see but black stripes painted across their eyes while their hair was cut just past shoulder length. All of these people did have one thing in common though and it was that they were all glaring daggers at me as I walked through the crowd towards a stone stage with torches ignited on the front corners. When we reached the front of the stage I was forced onto my knees by the two men as a thin man wearing a black grass shirt with a black sash running across his tattooed chest, a shark tooth necklace and a black feather head dress with what looked to be a burned monkeys skull in the center walked to the front of the stage glaring down at me as he asked.
"Did you bring the masters necklace?"
"It's in my satchel!"
The man on stage raised his hand before one of the men who escorted me here took my satchel while ripping the handle off in the process as he walked up towards the stage and bowed before the man on it while offering the satchel to him. The man on stage took the satchel and opened it to see what was inside smiling at the contents. He then glared down at me before turning back to the people around the village and yelled.
"BROTHERS AND SISTERS HERE WE STAND TOGETHER AS THE ONLY PROOF THAT OUR FATHER AND MASTER LOPAKA TRULY EXISTED AND WHY IS THAT YOU MAY ASK?" He pointed down at me. "IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS MAN RIGHT HERE WHO ENDED THE LIFE OF THE GREAT AND POWERFUL LOPAKA AND THEN STOLE HIS NECKLACE FROM THE DUST THAT WAS ONCE OUR MASTER!" The crowd yelled and screamed calling for my head until the thin guy held up his hand silencing them all. "BUT NOW THANKS TO I, AKAMU HIGH PRIEST OF LOPAKA, HAVE BROUGHT THIS MAN HERE TO FACE JUSTICE FOR HIS CRIMES IN THE PIT!" Everyone cheered as the guy I now knew to be Akamu once again raised his hand. "HE SHALL BE PUT UP AGAINST OUR STRONGEST WARRIOR ANO!" It was then a seven-foot tall man wearing the same outfit as every other male with tattoos covering his heavily muscled body holding a large black wooden club covered in shark teeth walked up to the front of the stage with everyone cheering as he stayed emotionless in both expression and posture. "OUR CHAMPION ANO WILL BE THE ONE TO END HICCUPS LIFE IN THE PIT BEFORE WE SHALL RETURN TO THE ISLANDS AND CLAIM THEM FOR THE GLORY OF OUR FALLEN MASTER LOPAKA!" He reached into the satchel and pulled out the necklace holding it up for everyone to see making everyone cheer before he glared down at me and said. "You'll pay for what you did to my master." I just smirked at him.
"If you think you can intimidated me then you're wrong since in my life I've faced beasts that you've only seen in your darkest nightmares and I'm not referring to the monsters that madman you called master released."
"Well we'll see how well you do against Ano in the pit."
I was then pulled up and dragged through the crowd to a pit in the ground and when I was standing right in front of it I saw it was ten feet deep with a mote of lava around the edges of the inside with small waterfalls of lava flowing out of the walls and into it. They pushed me into the pit where I landed on the solid stone in the middle before Ano jumped in after me with his club at the ready. I stood up with my arms still tied behind my back as Akamu stepped up to the edge with the crowd now gathered around the edges of the pit being held back only by a few men with spears. Soon Akamu held up his hand and then brought it down which I assume was the signal to begin since as soon as it was fully dropped Ano charged at me with his club raised.
I tuck and rolled out of the way of his swing while releasing my small rotating blade and began cutting the rope that bound my arms together. When I was half way through though Ano charged at me again swinging his club from the left to the right in what I assume was an attempt to take my head off but I jumped back out of the way and ducked so his club barely touched my hair but I could still feel the teeth. It was then the blade finished cutting through the ropes and I pulled my arms free making Ano just growl and glare at me as if saying it wasn't going to make a difference but I knew it would since now I'd have an easier time fighting back. He charged at me with his club held high but this time when he brought it down I stepped to the side and delivered a solid punch to his jaw when his body lowered down for the strike. He stumbled back rubbing his jaw with one hand while using the other to rub his chin as he glared at me but I just smirked as if saying he was wrong about it being easier. He just charged at me while letting out a battle cry and swinging his club at me but I jumped back dodging it before he lifted his club up and once again tried to smash me but when he brought it down I dropped to the ground and slid between his legs getting behind him. I then jumped on his back and wrapped my arms around his neck before I began choking him in an attempt to take him down. He grabbed onto my arms as he stood up and shook from side to side trying to shake me off going so far as to drop his club to use both hands to try and wrench my arms open but I held tight. He then tuck and rolled making me let go before he stood up looking down at me with a glare before he raised both his fists ready to bring them down on me. Before he could though I decided to take the crude but effective action and used my prosthetic fist to punch him right in between the legs. Ano immediately lowered his hands to where I punched him as I rolled away and stood up just as he fell to his knees. Seeing him down like this I saw an opportunity to get of the pit so I backed up a bit before running at Ano. He looked up at me just as I reached him and set my foot on his face before using it to give me a boost in height and jumping towards the closest edge of the pit.
I reached the top and landed the front of my feet on the edge of the hole but I was off balance as two spear men walked towards me to I assume push me back into the pit. Before they could touch me though I grabbed their shark teeth necklaces and pulled myself forward towards the crowd while sending the two of them stumbling into the pit screaming as they fell before I heard the thuds of them hitting the ground.
I didn't get the chance to enjoy it for long though since the second their thud sounded Akamu yelled at the people to kill me which seemed to be all they needed to hear since as soon as he gave the order they charged at me. I got into my battle stance as man with a spear charged at me and thrust the end of his spear towards me but I sidestepped and grabbed his spear end before pulling it forward and him with it. When he was pulled past me I slammed my elbow into the back of his head before he collapsed to the ground unconscious. As soon as he was down however I had to duck under a shark tooth lined club swung by a man who ran up to me but I was able to grab him by the waist and throw him over my shoulder and into the pit where I assume he landed on one of the men down there since I heard more than just him grunt in pain. It was then a group of five armed men charged towards me so I held my prosthetic fist towards the lead man and launched it at full speed towards him. It struck him in the stomach knocking the air out of him and continued to push him back into the other men who went stumbling back as I quickly pulled my fist back before it could even begin to drop to the ground. This held some of them back before I turned around as I heard a cry from behind me only to see a woman with two daggers about to pounce on me. As she did however my prosthetic fist made it back into its socket so I was able to grab her wrists as she pushed me down. We struggled a bit with me holding her hands back as she tried to stab her daggers into me but as she did a man with a club lined with shark teeth walked forward and prepared to smash my head with it. Before he could however I pulled my legs in under the woman on top of me and pushed them into her stomach before I threw them over my head and into the guy with the club.
I stood up and looked around seeing a lot more people charging at me and knew it was time to stop holding back before I released my crystal spear. Some of them backed up in shock while other just stared but their shock didn't last long as they immediately resumed their charge towards me. As they charged I slammed the crystal end of my spear into the ground and swept it forwards before large crystals burst out of the ground towards them. The crystals knocked ten people down but the others continued their charge at me. I decided to gain a little ground and charged at them to take them head on, when we were close enough I slammed the head of my spear into the ground and used to pole volt into the middle of the group shocking them. I was able to land a flying kick into the faces of two armed men as I came down stabbing the crystal end of my spear hard into the ground making crystals burst from around me knocking those around me back. I pulled my spear out of the ground making the crystals around me shatter into dust and showing me that a lot of the people surrounding me were now unconscious but there were still multiple people all glaring at me.
I just readied my spear as they charged at me quickly using the pole of my spear to block a blow from a club before turning my spear to the side pushing the club to the side before I swung the pole at the mans head knocking him out cold. It was then I had to dodge out of the way of a spearhead that was stabbed at me by a woman. I slashed my own spearhead towards her but when she tried to block it with her own spear pole I sliced it in two. She looked down at the now broken spear while I swept my spear beneath her legs tripping her to the ground where she fell unconscious when her head hit the hard stone ground. I then ducked under the swing of another club before punching its wielder in the gut making him drop his weapon and fall to the ground unconscious. Another man came at me wielding a dagger I swung my spear at him only to strike him with the crystal end by accident when I only meant to hit him with the pole of my spear. It was then I noticed much to my surprise a piece of the crystal had broken off and stuck to him but before he could do anything else the crystal piece began to quickly grow until the guy was almost completely encased in crystal with the only part left uncovered being his face which was looking around the best it could in shock. I looked down at my spears crystal end, which had already grown back the missing piece and smiled as things just got a whole lot more interesting. I didn't have much time to think it over though since a woman charged at me with a club but I struck her to the side using the crystal end of my spear knocking her to the ground where crystals seemed to form out of the ground and cover he leaving her pinned.
It was then I noticed the prisoners who were cheering for me from their cages and knew I had to get them out of the cage soon before Akamu got any ideas about using them to get to me. I stabbed the crystal end of my spear into the stomach of a man who tried to attack me from behind knocking the air out of him before I made a run for the cage. Akuma must've seen where I was running since he yelled at his remaining people to stop me. One of the men tried to tackle me from the side but I stopped as he tackled making him miss me and fly in front of me giving me the opportunity to slam my elbow into his back knocking him to the ground. I didn't stop though and just jumped over his unconscious body towards the cages as a man charged on me head on when I noticed someone running up behind me. I smiled as the man in front pounced at me but I dropped to the ground and slid under him making him crash into the person chasing me as I stood up and kept running. I was forced to hit another man into a woman who jumped in my with the crystal end of my spear before surprisingly they were both trapped in the same crystal cocoon but I didn't stop to admire it and kept running towards the cages reaching them. I turned back to see multiple people still charging towards me so I slammed the end of my crystal spear into the ground making crystals spring from the ground and cut the crowd off from us but I knew I couldn't hold it up forever if I was going to get these people out alive so I turned to them as I released my starsword and said.
"Alright, I'm going to get you guys out of here but you need to do exactly as I say." They nodded. "When I take my spear back the crystals will shatter and then I want you to run to into the forest and do your best to make it to the west beach where the boats are and then take as many as you need to get back to the islands but be sure to damage the remaining ones so you can't be followed." One of the men then asked.
"But what about you?" I began cutting the rope that held the wooden bars together.
"I'll be buying you as much time as I can." Another man then almost yelled.
"But you'll be killed!" It was then the wooden doors were opened as I smiled.
"Please if I was that easy to kill I would've been dead years ago." I then walked over to my spear while putting my starsword back into my prosthetic as I took the pole of my spear in my now free hand and looked back at the men. "Get ready to run as fast as you can after I use my spear to clear a path." They all nodded and got ready as I pulled my spear out of the ground the crystals shattered into dust revealing a small group of people surrounding us before I slammed the crystal end of my spear into the ground and slashed it forward making a row of large crystals sprout out knocking the people back and clearing a path until I pulled my spear back making them shatter into dust before I looked back at the now free captives and yelled. "RUN!" They didn't hesitate to obey and ran as fast as they could through the people who were staring in shock but the shock wore off when the captives reached the end and Akamu yelled.
"STOP THEM!" Before they could begin to give chase though I tossed my crystal spear with the crystal end facing the front and when it landed a crystal wall formed between the followers and the captives before it circled around cutting them off completely.
"You're not going to be stopping them from escaping." Akamu glared at me.
"You fool, all you've done is trap yourself in here with us." I smirked at him.
"Actually I've trapped you all in here with me." I released my star sword and unfolded my eagle shield smiling. "Let's finish this shall we?" The remaining people charged at me as I charged towards them ready to fight for my life.
10 minutes later
I delivered a solid punch into the gut of a male who was holding a club before lifting him up using my fist and tossing him over my shoulder and into another guy who was charging from behind me pushing them both into the pit that in the last ten minutes had gotten five new residents, not counting those two. I looked around for my next opponent only to see nobody was left and smiled until I noticed Akamu was still on the stone that served as a stage staring down at me with his mouth agape. I just smiled and said.
"Close your mouth or you'll catch bugs that fly in." He shook his head.
"HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?" He gestured around him. "I HAD OVER THIRTY FOLLOWERS AND YOU DEFEATED THEM ALL SINGLEHANDED WITHOUT GETTING SO MUCH AS A SCRATCH!" He pointed at me. "HOW DID YOU DO IT?" I chuckled.
"My dear fellow, I've faced giants with six arms, an insane high priest controlling a giant stone jaguar, a creature that could only be defeated by answering its complicated riddle, a skinless mans torso stuck to the back of a skinless horse with breath that could easily kill a man with a single breath, a power hungry man turned demon with an army under his command, an insanely powerful witch with an army of monsters and immeasurable power under her control and so much more monstrous things this world has to offer so compared to them." I gestured to the fallen warriors around me. "Your followers were nothing but an annoyance." I then pointed my sword at him. "So are you going to surrender now or will you be causing me some more trouble?" He just glared at me one last time before turning around and trying to run as I shook my head muttering. "Why do they always try to run?" I allowed my star sword to be pulled back into my prosthetic before releasing my spirit bow, a forest arrow I had and took aim using my eagle eye. "There is no escape from me!" I let the arrow fly and smiled as it struck Akamu in the back knocking him down to the ground as I turned to face my now unconscious enemies. "Well time to start restraining them before the Hawaiian forces arrive." I went to get to work while checking out those trapped in crystal and wondered how I was going to break them out.
4 hours later
I was sitting on the large stone on the beach with half a coconut in my hand with the other half sitting next to me as I looked out at the wide endless ocean across the beach. The beach was covered in people who had been trapped in crystal from my spear. After I learned I could free them by just holding the crystal end of my spear against them making it basically absorb the cocoon back into it using it to restrain the others was an easy choice since there wasn't nearly enough rope to tie them all up. I looked down next to me and saw Akamu's headdress and Ano's club, which were the trophies I'd be taking from this adventure. I looked out towards the sun and smiled as it began to set over the sea before I saw a bright green flash then darkness.
AN: And that does it for this chapter but what was that green flash mean well you'll find out in the next chapter. Now as it's been pointed out this chapter took some extra time but there's a reason for that, someone pointed out some ways to improve my story starting by not rushing the chapters I write and just take it nice and easy like I should have with the monster battles by making it one or two monsters a chapter instead of all of them at once. I also know I should've made the battle with Lopaka a bit more interesting. So in the future updates might not come in as fast but they'll be better and like the old ones. While I have your attention if you have any ideas for gifts he can receive from the Hawaiian gods please let me know since I'm short of ideas here and could use a few to add onto the ideas I do have a few. By the way a friendly request to you all.
