AN: this chapter. Was kind of hard to write due to the fact that I have not been to Disney world in over a decade sheesh
"So when is the date?" Quinn asked. I shrugged. I slid her breakfast over to her. It's been a few days since the party and Brittany hasn't brought up anything about the date.
"She said this Friday but hasn't told me anything else," I said. The sun barely broke the horizon as I put my stack of pancakes and bacon on my plate. Summer semester has ended and it's one of those rare Saturdays that neither Quinn or I work.
"She has like a month before the fall semester starts," Quinn stated, "So that means she has 30 days to put her claim on you before these freshies come in and want a piece." I laughed.
"She already scared Dani shitless," I said.
"I wish I could've seen that," Quinn said, "Last thing I remember is Brittany cutting into our dance and Mercedes handing me drinks after drinks."
"That girl sure can party," I commented. Quinn nodded.
"What are we doing today?" I asked Quinn.
"I want a day of nothing," she said, "Not thinking about work or school or life in general. I need my noggin to be empty."
"True dat," I said, shoveling some food into my mouth. My phone started to ring.
"Hello," I said, with my mouth full.
"Good morning, San," Brittany said, "Hope I didn't wake you." Her voice sounded like butter. I chewed real fast and gulped down my food.
"Hey Britt," I said, "Me and Quinn are just eating breakfast." Quinn perked up.
"At the ass crack of dawn?" Brittany chuckled.
"We're early risers."
"Good to know.." Brittany trailed off, "I was actually just wondering if you and Quinn are free today?"
"Yeah, surprisingly we are."
"Great, some friends and I are headed to Magic Kingdom today, if y'all want to join," She said, "I have two extra tickets with y'all's name on it."
"Let me ask Quinn," I pulled the phone away from my ear, "Do you want to go to Disney with Brittany and some of her friends?"
"Fuck yes," Quinn said jumping up from her seat.
"She said yes," I giggled, "Want us to meet you there?"
"I actually wanted to pick y'all up," she said, "If that's fine."
"Yeah that's fine. We live at NorthView," I told her, "We'll wait for you outside of the building in 45."
"Awesome. Can't wait to see you," she said.
"Me neither, Britt,"
In record time, I was dressed and ready in under 30 minutes.
"Quinn, how does this look?" I said, walking into the living room. I threw on a fitted light pink tank top with brown cargo pants. I put my hair in a high ponytail and put on my favorite gold necklace that Quinn got me for my birthday years ago.
"What shoes are you wearing?"
"White air forces," I said.
"I like it," Quinn said, "How do I look?" Quinn had a pair of tan pants on with a simple t-shirt that read "Save a Horse, Ride a cowgirl" on it.
"Cute but I want my shirt back after today," I laughed. I grabbed a little bag and threw in my essentials, sun block, chapstick, and my wallet.
"Are you excited to see your boo thang?" Quinn teased. I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up," I said walking out the front door.
I expected to see Brittany. I expected to see her car. What I didn't expect was to see a full SUV nor was I expecting to see my stepsister, Rachel. I looked over at Quinn.
"What the fuck?" We said in unison. Brittany hopped out of her SUV and greeted me and Quinn with a hug.
"Hey guys! You look great!" She said. I smiled. She was wearing a baby blue short sleeve compression shirt with khaki cargos, a black Nike crossbody bag, baby blue New York Yankees fitted cap, and Birkenstocks.
"I like your shorts," I said. She smiled.
"I also like your shorts," she said.
"Dork," I chuckled.
"Okay love birds, quit it," Quinn said, "Britt, how are we all going to fit?"
"This is a 7 seater car."
"And there's already 6 people in your car," I said.
"Well Rachel is going to sit on Finn's lap," She said, matter-of-factly.
"That's dangerous," Quinn said.
"This is Florida," she said, "Come on, let me introduce you to everyone. We walked over to her car and she opened the back door.
"Santana and Quinn, this is Mike, my best friend, and his girlfriend, Tina." Two Asians waved at us.
"This is Kurt, he's on the dance cheer team with me and Mike," Brittany said, pointing to an obviously gay man with porcelain skin.
"And this is my other best friend Rachel and her Boyfriend Finn."
"I know Rachel."
"I know Santana."
"How?"
"She's… actually my stepsister," Rachel said.
"Yup."
"Oh shoot, I can't believe you never told me that," Brittany said. Rachel shot Brittany a "we need to talk about this" look. Brittany turned to me.
"You're sitting shotgun," she said, "Quinn you're in the second row. Everyone else… y'all know what to do." Finn got out of the passenger seat, climbed in the second row and Rachel got up from her seat and sat on his lap.
Brittany held the passenger door open for me.
"Your chariot awaits, m'lady," she said. I laughed as she ran to the other side and opened the door for Quinn.
We parked and got into the park with ease. Brittany handled everything and made sure everyone was good once we got in the park.
"Alright guys, does anyone need to use the bathroom?" She asked. Everyone shook their heads.
"I'll be right back then," she said. Just the entrance of the park is overwhelming. I snagged a park map on my way in.
"What are you excited to do?" Quinn asked. I shrugged, looking down at the map. I handed it to Quinn.
"I don't even know. I heard people talk about Space Mountain before so I guess that," I said unsure, "Oh and the really annoying boat ride."
"It's a small world," Finn said, "That's one of Rachel's favorite." Rachel looked at him, smiling like a dope.
"That checks out," I muttered. Quinn stifled a laugh.
"Alright guys, let's go," Brittany said. She walked up and slipped her hand in mine with ease. I felt my face get hot again.
"So, I think we should go through the park counterclockwise and head to Adventureland first," Kurt said.
"Agreed," Rachel said. Brittany nodded. We fell to the back of the group.
"Hand holding before our first date," I commented, "Quite scandalous, don't you think?"
"Scandalous indeed, Ms. Lopez," she said, pulling her hand away. I grabbed it back quickly and intertwined our fingers.
"We can continue to be scandalous. No need to stop now." Brittany smiled
"I got you something," she said, using her free hand to open and pull out something from her bag. She handed it to me. It was an orange button with all the main Disney characters, and it said "Santana's 1st Visit".
"I thought it would be cool for you to have this," she said, shyly, "And a little commemoration gift…for you very first time in Disney." I kissed her on the cheek.
"This is so sweet, Brittany," I said, "I love it." Her cheeks turned a shade of pink.
"Pirates of the Caribbean?" Rachel suggested.
"I feel like I'm not prepared," I said to Brittany.
"For what?"
"For this outing with you guys. Disney World professionals," I laughed.
"We're gonna do everything, even the boring rides," Brittany said, "Consider this Intro To Magic Kingdom 100, Ms. Braniac." I laughed. I looked over to Quinn, to ensure she was enjoying herself so far. Her, Tina, and Mike were deep in discussion. Quinn looked over to me and smiled.
We got in line. Brittany whipped out her phone and took a selfie, catching me off guard.
"Atleast wait till I look presentable," I said, fixing me pony and sunglasses, "Alright let's do it again." Brittany laughed and took another picture.
"Group photo!" Kurt said, jumping into our space. Finn grabbed the phone, since he has the longest arms, and everyone squeezed together.
"I was definitely not prepared for that fucking drop, holy shit," I said as we excited the ride.
"Everyone wanna to do Thunder Mountain?" Mike asked. Everyone shouted "yes".
"I love Thunder Mountain," Brittany said, "It's a good rollercoaster here at Disney."
We must've rode Thunder Mountain 50 times and every time I held onto Brittany. I didn't hold on because I was scared, I held on to see that little smirk she would do every time my arms wrapped around hers.
"Shit! That ride will always be my favorite," Finn said.
"What about Mount Everest in Animal Kingdom?" Mike asked, slinging an arm around his shoulder.
"Okay, Thunder Mountain is the best in Magic Kingdom," Finn said.
"That's better," Mike said, chuckling. I took my hair out of the ponytail. Oh gosh, I probably look like a hot mess.
"You look fine," Brittany said, as I fixed my ponytail.
"I'm thirsty," Finn said.
"Anyone want something to drink?" Rachel said, "My treat." Everyone's hand shot up. Rachel and Finn walked off to get the drinks.
"How's the day so far, Santana," Mike asked, "Enjoying yourself?"
"It's fun but I can already tell I'm a Universal Studios kinda girl." Everyone gasped dramatically. Even Quinn. I laughed.
"This is the most magical place on earth!" Brittany exclaimed.
"Nothing and I mean NOTHING beats the most magical place on earth!" Tina said. Mike and Kurt started to fake cry and Quinn joined by patting them on the back, trying to make them feel better.
"You guys are so dramatic," I said, laughing and rolling my eyes. Rachel and Finn came back juggling 8 can sodas between them. Mike grabbed two sodas, Kurt grabbed his, and Quinn grabbed two, handing me one. I grabbed another one, craving it open with one hand and handing it to Brittany.
"That was hot," Kurt said. I laughed.
"You guys wanna go on Tiana's Bayou?" Quinn asked.
"I think I'm going to sit this one out," I said, "Y'all are probably going to ride it five times over anyway. Grab me on the fourth go around."
"Okay," Quinn said. Everyone walked off. Everyone except Brittany.
"Why didn't you go?" I asked.
"I want to be with you," she said, "Come on let's sit." We found a bench in a relatively shady area.
"Are you enjoying yourself," I asked after a few moments of silence.
"I'm enjoying myself." she said, "I'm enjoying my time with you as well. Disney is probably my favorite place in the world."
"You're from Florida?"
"Florida born and raised."
"What part?" I asked.
"Bradenton, Florida," She said, "It's southwest of Tampa."
"Okay," I laughed, "I know where Tampa is."
"Where are you from?"
"Lima Ohio," I answered, "Northwest of Columbus." Brittany laughed.
"So what brought you out to the sunshine state?"
"My dad, honestly," I said, "He left my mom and me in Ohio when I was 13 but before that we were really close. He figured he was too big for Lima or Lima was too small for him. He decided we were too small for him too and he left and got remarried and that's how Rachel comes into the equation. For years, I hated him but deep down I missed my dad a lot. Quinn and I applied to a lot of universities. We also got into a lot too but I really wanted UCF. To have a reason to reconnect and be close with him. I wanted so bad to come here and see him unhappy with the choice he made but instead I saw him, his new wife and his new daughter and it crushed me for a bit but after three months of Quinn and I being here, he reached out to talk. We talked. I screamed. We cried. I screamed some more. We moved on. He apologized for hurting my mom, for hurting me, and I forgave him." I looked over at Brittany, who was listening intently.
"And I don't know why I told you all that. Definitely didn't mean to trauma dump on you. Sorry."
"It's okay," she said, "I came to UCF because I got a full ride athletic scholarship for cheerleading. I knew the only way for me to continue my education was to get a scholarship that would cover all my school expenses. I didn't want UCF but UCF was the only school that wanted me with a full ride."
"So if you weren't going to UCF, where would you wanna go?"
"MIT honestly," she said, "It was my dream school. I got accepted but even with the scholarships and financial aid, it wasn't going to cover everything."
"What are you?" I asked, "A genius?"
"That's classified information," she said, laughing.
"Well, I'm glad UCF wanted you," I said, sincerely. She looked at me.
"I'm glad you wanted UCF," she said, grabbing a hold of my hand.
"Alrighty! Break it up!" Quinn said, squeezing between us.
"You're fucking soaked!" I said, pushing her away.
"Aw come on, Sanny," she cooed, "Don't you want a hug from your best Quinnbear?" She wrapped her arms around me and squeezed.
"You're going to be a dead bear, if you don't get off me," I said, trying to wiggle my way out of her hold. She let me go, clutching her sides laughing.
"Why are you wet?"
"The ride, San," she said, "Were you not watching?"
"No. I…I was preoccupied," I said, looking at Brittany. She was currently getting spoiled by all of her soaking wet friends.
"Get any lip action yet?"
"She doesn't kiss before or on a first date," I said.
"Are you guys considering this a first date?" I shrugged.
"I don't think she would," I said, "Since it's a group outing." Brittany, damp from her friends, walked over to us.
"I guess we should join them," She said, smiling. Her smile was so huge and reached all the way to her eyes. She was illuminating.
"Okay," I said, matching her smile. Brittany walked back to her friends and Quinn bumped my hip with hers.
"Y'all are gross," Quinn joked. I rolled my eyes.
"Just wait till you get yourself a boyfriend. The jokes are here, I'm just waiting on the opportunity to let them out," I said, pointing to my head. Quinn laughed.
"I'm too busy hanging with you or studying to get a boyfriend," Quinn said.
"Lucy, that's gonna change this school year," I said, "Getting a boyfriend part, not the 'being too busy because you're hanging with me' part."
"Cause I'm stuck with you."
"Cause you're stuck with me," we said, simultaneously.
I walked out the exit of the ride shivering.
"I'm fucking freezing," I said, squeezing my ponytail. Everyone else was laughing.
"The water wasn't that cold," Mike said.
"It's hot as all hell today anyways," Kurt said, "You'll warm up fast." I rolled my eyes.
"How are you guys not cold?" I asked.
"We were," Tina said, "The first two times we went." I looked over at the soaking wet Brittany. She was standing off to the side, trying to get all the excess water out of her hair.
"What's your excuse?" I asked her.
"Oh, I love being cold," she said, "I love taking cold showers and doing ice baths after practice."
"Oh gosh," I exclaimed, "I hate being cold. I take steaming hot showers and love going into a hot tub after a workout." Brittany laughed.
"Doesn't it snow in Ohio?"
"And that's another reason why I am in the sunshine state," I said, smiling. Brittany giggled and grabbed my hand. Holding her hand felt natural. Like, the only reason I have these hands was so that they could be held by Brittany.
"You must love being so scandalous, Ms. Pierce," I joked.
"Oh oh oh," Rachel exclaimed, "Can we please go to The Hall Of Presidents?" Everyone groaned.
"What's that?" I asked, confused.
"It's a boring ass history lesson on the presidents," Kurt explained.
"It's like 30 minutes," Finn added.
"It's informative and it's like a love letter to our nation's leaders," Rachel defended, "It's theater."
"No one wants to see that, Rach," Tina said. Mike and Quinn nodded their heads in agreement.
"We should do it," Brittany said. Everyone looked at her like she had grown another head.
"What? Why?" Kurt groaned. She pointed to me.
"First timer here and I want Santana to experience everything here," Brittany said, "The good, the bad, and the boring."
"I agree with Brittany," Rachel said.
"Shut up Rachel," Everyone said. Quinn and I were just giggling in the corner.
"You owe us, Brittany," Mike said. Brittany laughed.
"Shouldn't you love that ride, Mr. History Major," Rachel joked.
"Ugh don't remind me," Mike laughed.
The lights dimmed, indicating the attraction was going to start.
"What's your favorite color?" Brittany whispered.
"What?" I asked, confused. She smiled.
"What's your favorite color?" She asked again, "Aren't these like preliminary dating questions?"
"Yeah, ice breakers for a first date," I said, "Is this what this is? Our first date?" Her cheeks turned a light pink.
"It doesn't have to be if you don't want it to be," she said, "I was just nervous and didn't want you to think I'm lame."
"I don't think you're lame." I said, "This is the first time I have ever been tricked into a first date disguised as a group outing."
"Sorry," she said, rubbing the back of her neck, "I'll make it up to you Friday. Let's consider this a pre-date to our first date." A laugh ripped out of me and a cacophony of shushes rightfully followed.
"Sorry," I squeaked, sinking into my seat and covering my face in embarrassment.
"If you weren't so set on no kissing before or on a first date, I would definitely kiss you right now," I said, "You are too cute." Brittany smiled.
"So you and Quinn are best friends?" She asked, after a few moments.
"Hell no," I said, "Quinn is my sister."
"Oh, your mom got remarried?" She asked. I giggled.
"No, Quinn is my best friend but we've been friends for so long that I consider her my sister. She's been by my side through everything I've been through and I've been by her side."
"That's how I feel about Rachel," Brittany said, "I met her freshman year of high school. I had just moved to Orlando and she was the welcoming committee. Literally, it was only her and she made a small gift basket and everything. Since that day, we've been friends."
"How didn't you know that she was my step sister?"
"I knew her stepdad was a lawyer but I never knew his name," she said, "Anytime I went over to her house it was just her mom there. I saw pictures of him but…"
"There's no pictures of me in their house," I said, sadly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine, Britt," I said, "He has a picture of me in his office. It's my senior photo but that's it." Brittany wrapped her arm around my shoulder.
"I would have like an oil painting of you in like every common room if it was my house," She said, absentmindedly, "Because then when you're not home, I still get to see you."
"You're such a dork," I said, leaning my head into her chest.
We rode The Haunted Mansion Ride and took pictures with Belle, Ariel, Donald Duck, Goofy, Daisy and Minnie. Brittany made sure to snap a few of her own photos.
"I'm gonna make sure I buy those," She said.
It's a Small World would be a horrible ride if I was tripping on mushrooms or acid. The song alone would freak me the hell out. We were on the boat and watching all those creepy chucky dolls sing and I looked over at Brittany, to see her lips moving along to the words of the song and smiling. How I wish this was our first date.
"I don't know about y'all but I am starving," I said as we walked out the ride.
"What do you want to eat?" Quinn asked.
"Food, Quinn," I said. She flicked me off.
"Har Har."
"Let's go to Pinocchio's Village haus," Finn said, "I could devour like 2 of their buffalo chicken flatbreads right now."
"Everyone is fine with that? Or do y'all want to split off for lunch?" Mike asked.
"I'm cool with it," Tina said.
"Is there any vegan food spots?" Rachel asked.
"I can get you a Dole whip, babe," Finn said, "Or a Mickey pretzel."
"I really need to write that email to the head of Disney World about their lack of vegan food options at their parks," Rachel said.
"Pinnocho's literally has plant based pizza with vegan crust," Kurt said.
"Plant based does not mean vegan. Plant based does not fully eliminate animal products, Kurt," Rachel said.
"Well, I guess you're going to starve," Kurt argued.
Brittany tapped me and Quinn on the shoulder.
"If we stay here, we're never going to eat," She said, "They'll catch up with us." We followed Brittany to the restaurant.
"Find a seat and I'll order us some food," she said.
"I get why you have a huge crush on Brittany," Quinn said, "It's kind of hot when she takes charge." I smacked her shoulder.
"Watch it, Fabgay," I said, "But it really is so fucking sexy." We sat down and a few moments later we saw the rest of the gang coming in, as Brittany walked to the table with some bottled waters in hand.
"I got one all meat flatbread, pepperoni flatbread, and a buffalo chicken flatbread. Figured we could share all of them amongst the three of us."
Everyone found us with ease and sat down. I grabbed a bottle and took a sip.
"There's the Houdini's," Mike said.
"Disappearing in a flash," Tina added.
"We were hungry and couldn't wait around for Rachel to start her Vegan Crusade," Brittany said. Everyone laughed.
"Yeah, she's on a hunger strike now," Kurt said.
"Until she gets home where she can indulge in all her vegan goodies," Tina added.
Rachel has been my dad's stepchild for seven years now and we have never been close. When I moved to Florida, I wanted nothing to do with her. Still do. The way the word 'dad' flew out of her mouth towards my father so casually, rubbed my skin raw. I hated it. The only positive I see about not wanting to get to know her was not knowing the extent of her diva tantrums. Seeing her sitting in the corner, arms crossed, refusing to listen to anything Finn has to say was absolutely hilarious but very annoying at the same time. Everyone else ignored her tantrums. Probably because they were so used to it.
"Does that happen a lot?" I asked Brittany, pointing to Rachel.
"Her tantrums? Yeah," she said, "She wants a better world for her future children and wants the animals to be safe blah blah blah. We're all so used to it but it doesn't help that Finn is always trying to be her knight in shining armor when it comes to calming her down. He just ends up getting the majority of the tantrum."
"That's crazy."
"Do you have any siblings?" She asked me.
"Nope, only child," I said, "My parents knew from a young age that I did not play well with others, so giving me a sibling seemed like a bad idea." Brittany laughed.
"You seem fine to me," She said, "You and Quinn get along just fine."
"We weren't always like this. To get to this point, there was a lot fists that were thrown and hair that was pulled."
"All siblings fight," she said.
"How about you?" I asked, "Any siblings or are you apart of the only child club?"
"I have three siblings. We all share a dad but different moms," She said, "My older brother, Jamie is 30 and lives in Houston. He's a firefighter. Then there's Faith, she's 16 and lives with her mom in Tampa. Sam is 20 and he actually goes to UCF. He's on the swim team. And I have a little brother who is 4, who I have never met. His name is Chase."
"Oh wow," I said, "So you and Sam are around the same age?"
"Three months apart, actually," she said. The waitress came over to drop off our food.
"My dad is a lover," she said, "Big emphasis on lover."
"Oh wow," was all I could say.
"Yeah but my mom knew he was sleeping around. They weren't together, even though she would've liked for them to be."
"Are you and you're dad close?"
"Not really. He wasn't really around when I was a kid. His 'business trips' consumed majority of his time," She said.
"Is he still in Florida?"
"Yup," she said, biting into a piece of the pepperoni flatbread, "He lives in Daytona with his son and his 26 year old girlfriend. Like I don't mind that he's giving Chase a good life and being their for him. I love that but ugh, why couldn't I have that dad."
"Guess we both got daddy issues," I said. Brittany cracked a small smile.
"You're dangerous, Santana Lopez."
"How do?"
"You make it so easy to spill my guts."
"Same. I feel so comfortable around you, Brittany Pierce.
