Chapter 18
The next morning, Moroha walks quietly towards the school. She has one day left until the project is due for science class. So far she only knows her sample, but she doesn't know about Towa or Setsuna's choice. As she comes to the gates of the school, the students are back to their usual selves. Moroha knew for sure that when she first arrived here is wasn't that different either.
"Hey, Moroha." Towa comes to the girl's right side while Sestuna came to her left. "Oh morning. How's your projects coming along?" Moroha asks the two of them.
"So far so good. I'm using this plant here." Towa shows the picture of the Larkspur plant. Moroha smiles. "That's a very pretty plant there. What about you, Setsuna?" She turns to the younger twin.
Setsuna shows the picture of a snowdrop flower on her phone. "You girls make it easy to find the right plant." Moroha compliments to the two of them.
"Well, our mother has a garden in her backyard, so it was easy. What about you?" Towa shrugs her shoulders as they make it to their lockers. "I'm doing this plant." Moroha opens her phone and shows the image of the Garbera.
"Whoa, I never saw that plant before." Sestuna is surprised to see such a plant.
Moroha nods as she swaps a few of her books. "I was going to use a different plant with a similar effect for people who has sleeping disorders.
The twins look at each other and then turn their sight back to Moroha. "If you had a plant in mind before the Garbera, why didn't you get it?" Towa asks curiously.
Moroha sighs. "That's because the worker at the nursery suggested the garbera is a botanist." Towa and Setsuna didn't see that coming. "A botanist?" She asks.
"Yes, it's a person who studies plants." Their science teacher said from behind. "I see you three are doing ok with your projects so far?" She smiles to them.
Just seeing her with look has definitely given the girls a chill down their spine. Not to mention, they would've been able to smell her coming from behind them. "Oh yes. Absolutely. We'll have it in by tomorrow." Moroha giggles in a nervous matter.
"Ok, then you girls take care." Their teacher walks pass them and back into her classroom. "Ok, that was freaky." Moroha admits with a shiver. Towa and Setsuna feel the same way but showing it differently. "I agree. For a teacher with that look has really got me curious." Towa speaks up as she gets her books.
"Indeed. There's something wrong with her. But we need to know more about Gin's possible killer. We need to go to the gym and to see if we can find anything there."
The school bell rings to alert the students that it's time for class. Throughout their day, the girls couldn't really get any leads from any of the other students. If they ask them about Gin, no one would admit or say they don't really know him despite being in the popular crowd. Either they know him or know of him.
The girls head to do the gym to change into their gym clothes. For their gym clothes, they have the school's magenta logo t-shirts and long shorts to their knees that are yellow. Both Moroha and Setsuna keep their hair up since it's a requirement for the class. Towa has it easy.
"I feel sorry for Gin." One of the girls said quietly somewhere else in the locker. The girls look at each other, knowing that their sense of hearing. Towa takes out a small device and starts recording, aiming at the source of the sound. According to their father, the device has a high frequency that will be able to pick even the quietest conversations from a twenty feet in diameter.
"Do you think that his family will go to his funeral?" Another girl asks the first one curiously.
"Why? Gin was usually the one with a temper that his own family would stay away from him, even now he's in his casket." The girl chuckles in the end.
Just hearing that made the twins and Moroha nod at each other to make sure that they wouldn't be caught. They leave the locker room and line up for their class's choice of sports. Volleyball.
The net is set up, Towa Moroha and Setsuna were on their own team with three extra classmates on their team. The remaining number is on the other side. "Service." The teacher calls to the serving team. Even though they're all half demons, Towa is more aware of how these beings are capable of. Once served, the ball was hit very hard and at lightning speed. Moroha runs as fast as she could to bump the ball around from the floor.
"Ok, this is insane." Moroha said as she helps her team spike the ball to the other side. So far, their team managed to win two out of three matches. "You girls just got lucky." The one girl from the other side. Towa recognizes the voice that was talking earlier. From what they know so far is that she's a bull demon like Gin. Her hair is blacken blue with her horns in the same way as Gin's horns. Her eyes were sandy brown color. "Mai Fugimoto." The teacher calls out to her.
The female bull demon turns to the teacher. "Do I need to remind you about your attitude around the new students." The teacher scolds her. "No. I was just telling them that they got lucky." Mai said to the teacher.
"I do not tolerate the way you were talking to them. Need I to remind that it doesn't go unnoticed. Especially since your…"
"No!" Mai shouts back to the teacher.
"We need to talk to your parents about your behavior at school." The teacher said before walking back into the locker room.
Mai just growls. "Why do you always have to blame me?" She murmurs to herself as she goes into the locker room.
It doesn't take long for the girls to get to their next separate classes, Moroha in Algebra, Towa in Literature, and Setsuna in Music. Throughout the day, they each can seem to shake off the conversation that their gym teacher was having with Mai.
The bell rings to dismiss their students. Setsuna is carrying her violin in its black leather case. "You need to practice a bit, Setsuna?" Towa as she sees her sister closing the locker door.
"Yes. The music teacher thinks I have what it takes to the top violinist in the region." Setsuna answers as they exit the building. Moroha is by the gate waiting for them.
"Ok, we can finally go home!" She shouts in excitement. "Not yet, Moroha." Towa stops her. Moroha looks at her. "What? Why not?" She asks in shock.
"This." Towa pulls out her smartphone to show Moroha something.
"Ok, what exactly are we looking here?" Moroha is clueless.
"We've been ordered to go to this location in the city. Did you get one?" Setsuna said to her. Moroha looks to her smartphone, but it doesn't have the message.
"No. Maybe it's just for you two." Moroha answers to them. Towa looks at the message that she got it from. "It doesn't have a number with it. Do you think it could be a scam?"
Moroha crossed her arms. "What about you Setsuna, do you get that as well?"
Setsuna looks on her smartphone to see she hasn't gotten one either. Just Towa. "No. But this could be part of the mission."
Moroha walks ahead of the two. "But did you guys forget, our dads decided to put the mission on hold. After what happened when the school closed since Gin's death, they believe that we couldn't handle it." She reminds them.
Towa seems uncertain with the message. "I'll ask father to see if he knows anything about this?" She said as she walks up to catch up on Moroha's pace with Setsuna on tow.
Towa and Setsuna arrived home. "Welcome home, girls." Rin hugs them with a smile. "Do you know where father is?" Towa asks Rin as she takes off her shoes. "I believe he's in his office in the middle of something." Rin honestly responds as she sees the violin case that Setsuna brought home.
"Setsuna, are you doing the violin?"
Setsuna blushes a little. "Yeah, I had a choice between art and music. I chose music."
Rin nods. "I knew for sure you have a talent of something. Have you played anything yet?" Setsuna shakes her head. "No, I'm just getting the hand of playing it right."
"Why don't you look up some music sheets that you would like to play?" Rin suggests to her daughter. Setsuna thinks for a second. "I'm just don't want to bother father with the instrument. I know he's not fond of music."
Rin giggles at that part. "Don't be ridiculous. I know it may seem odd, but your father has been to a few recitals when he was your age."
The twins look at each other, thinking that their mother was insane. "Oh come on, mother. There's no way father would even bother listening to music, let alone go to a recital of all things." Towa isn't believing what she just heard.
Rin gestures them to follow her to the attic. They head to one spot in the large attic with the light on. Not a single thing that is consider dirty is cleaned. Everything was organized in the most pristine condition. Rin sees the familiar box and opens it to find a photo album.
"Your father was a completely different man back." Rin said as she opens the album to show the twins some old photos of their father.
Towa and Setsuna are shocked to see that Sesshomaru hasn't age as much as they thought. "Your father was pretty much arrogant when he was a kid. His mother knew for sure that I'd be the one to tame his nature. But otherwise, he was very talented with anything he put his mind to."
That's when Rin turn to the next page to see their father in a beautiful tuxedo, his hair in a hair tie, playing the piano. "I might know that there's a video cassette tape here that we can watch him play.
Rin found it in the box with the album is stored in. It's a tape case so it wouldn't get damaged overtime. "Now if only we have a vcr, we would've been able to watch it." She said to them. Towa looks around the attic, curious about the antiques that have been stored here.
"Did father play any sports back then?" Towa asks her mother. "I met him in college, and I don't think he'd every played any sports." Rin shakes her head.
Towa nods, "Oh, I thought any boy would play any sport because they find it fun." She said to her. "Normally yes. But back then, demons weren't allowed to participate in any of the leagues that the humans did." Sesshomaru said from behind them.
The girls turn around with Sesshomaru with his usual stoic look. "I see you that you're curious about my past with the piano." He said to them.
Setsuna nods. "Yes, father. You see I brought home a violin so I can practice with it. I was just concerned that you wouldn't like it." She said nervously.
"Then play it." He simply tells her.
"Play the violin? Are you sure?" Setsuna tries her best to stop her fast beating heart to hear her father's unusual request.
"Prove to me that you have what it takes to be a violinist." Sesshomaru said to her.
They gather in the family with Setsuna with the violin in her hand. She positions the instrument onto her shoulder and begins playing. One moment, the girl's playing was incredible. No one said a word as they observe play so beautifully. Even Sesshomaru is one who is usually difficult to impress.
Once the music ended, Towa and Rin applaud to her. But Sesshomaru doesn't. Setsuna can feel the disappointment in the air. "You know you can do better." He simply tells her before leaving the room. Setsuna looks down. 'I knew it.' She sadly puts the violin away into its case and goes upstairs.
Towa wants to go after her but, Rin blocks her way. "You need to leave your sister alone for now. I'll talk to her later." Rin assures her older twin daughter before leaving the room. Towa sighs and looks down the hall to see that Sesshomaru's office door is open. 'I think I need to give him something interesting.'
My dear followers, I'm really happy that you enjoy this story so far. But there are a few that want to use my stories for illustrations and comic arts. For those who want to that with me, I'm sorry but I cannot do that. I would like to, but there are some things that are to be what it is. I know for sure that there other writers who are better suited for the task than me.
