Devil May Cry Netherworld Chronicle: Nero Arc
Prologue: The Knight and the Princess.

Two thousand years ago, the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda rebelled against the Devil Emperor Mundus for the sake of humanity and though he was victorious in sealing the dark monarch, his power grew exponentially, so much so that he himself had begun to fear it, so he used that power to separate the Human World from the Netherworld. Sparda entrusted the Netherworld to his most trusted comrades, Krichevskoy, Zenon, Killia, Seraphina, Red Magnus, Zeroken, Usalia, Christo, Pram, Zetta and Salome, all of them, demons who fought by his side against Mundus.
Sparda then settled down in the Human World and ruled as the feudal lord of Fortuna City, where he guarded the Hell Gates he created and the people there worshipped him as a god and founded The Order of the Sword in his name, calling him "The Saviour".
Sparda would leave Fortuna City after many centuries and in Red Grave City he would eventually meet and fall in love with a human woman named Eva, who bore him twin sons, Vergil and Dante. He would then give his sons two of his most powerful weapons, the Yamato for Vergil and the Rebellion for Dante, each blade infused with his power and embodying his will and Eva would gift her sons one half each of the amulet Sparda used to seal his powers. Under unknown circumstances, Sparda vanished once more, leaving his wife and sons.
Tragedy struck when Mundus, now free from the seal Sparda had placed on him, ordered his minions to go after the Dark Knight's family and it resulted in the death of Eva and the separation of Vergil and Dante.
The brothers would grow up to be very different people, Vergil would reject his humanity and search for his father's demonic power while Dante would embrace his humanity and fight to protect others. Vergil saw love as a weakness, one that robbed his father of his powers and killed his mother, where Dante saw love as a source of strength, taking their mother's stories of their father achieving true power through love to heart.
Vergil and Dante disagreed on the fundamental meaning of their existence and when they met again, the crossed swords like mortal enemies, but in the end, only one was left standing.
Now, almost two decades later Overlord Zenon would return and curse the inhabitants of the land of Veldime, transforming them into demons and The Order of the Sword sent the holy knight Nero to investigate, little did he know that he carried a powerful legacy in his blood, one that would shake the Netherworld once more.
It was a joyous day in Fortuna City with the all the people celebrating the seventeenth birthday of the crown princess Sapphire Rhodonite, though one person was missing from the party, Nero, the princesses' childhood friend and a controversial figure in the order due to his lone wolf tendencies.
Nero, a young man with white hair and blue eyes dressed in a long dark blue coat over a red zip-up vest and blue pants, his right arm held up by a sling and his two-barrelled revolver, Blue Rose strapped on his thigh, was running to the Order's cathedral, hoping to catch Sapphire's birthday party.
"Damnit… I'm gonna be late!" Nero ran through the streets of Fortuna City; now sure he was late to the celebration. "Sapphire's gonna kill me…"
Just before Nero could reach the cathedral, several scarecrows appeared before him. They were grotesque demons that seemed to be made of tattered cloth and metal with blades where their appendages should have been.
"Just my luck…" Nero sighed as he stopped, eyeing the scarecrows, knowing they would attack soon. "Mind getting out of the way? There's a birthday girl waiting for me that's way scarier than you guys are."
The scarecrows made a noise that sounded like maniacal cackling before moving in to attack Nero, but the Young Knight grabbed one of their bladed appendages and ripped it off, using it as a makeshift sword and with his temporary weapon, he blocked every strike the demons tried to land on him all the while cutting his opponents to pieces.
Unknown to Nero, Dante, a man with white hair, blue eyes and a stubble dressed in a red coat over a leather vest with three buckles, leather pants and ornate boots with his sword, Rebellion, a blade with a skeletal design and his handguns, Ebony, a black one and Ivory, a white one.
After defeating the scarecrows, Nero discarded the demon's leg and made his way into the cathedral and there waiting for him with a frown on her face, was Sapphire, a young woman with long white hair, emerald eyes with pupils that resembled stars and tan skin dressed in an armoured white blouse, a miniskirt and metal gauntlets.
"You're late!" Sapphire glared at Nero, though she was happy to see him, she was also mad at his tardiness, especially on her birthday.
"Sorry about that… had a little demon trouble on the way." Nero shrugged and gave Sapphire a nervous smile. "And I had to get your present." He took a blue wrapped box out of his coat, handing it to her.
"I'll forgive you this time…" Sapphire smiled at Nero as she took the box and once she opened it, she saw an ornate silver pistol with blue and gold engravings. "It's beautiful…"
"Finding a gun here in Fortuna was impossible, so I had to make this one myself." Nero smiled at Sapphire; he was glad that she liked the special birthday present he had made for her.
"I'll treasure it forever!" Sapphire smiled at Nero as she held the gun close to her chest before giving him a tight hug.
Nero smiled through the pain, due to Sapphire's inhuman strength, patting her on the back as a reciprocal gesture.
As Sapphire hugged Nero, his adoptive older brother and mentor Credo, a man with brown hair, a goatee and sharp brown eyes dressed in a long white coat with high boots and a sheathed Durandal, the Order of the Sword's officer weapon hanging from his waist, watched them and faked a cough to get their attention.
"His Holiness is about to say a prayer." Credo informed both Nero and Sapphire in a stern tone.
In front of all the guests, His Holiness Sanctus, an old man dressed in an ornate white robe with red and gold markings, stood before a large statue of Sparda that held a sword, he was about to say a prayer to commemorate Sapphire's birthday as he watched the Nero, Credo and the princess arrive.
"Two thousand years ago, the Dark Knight Sparda, turned against his demon brethren and took up his sword for the sake of mankind. Though despite his great efforts in our names, I fear some have forgotten the truth of that great sacrifice." Sanctus preached the usual story about the saviour that The Order of the Sword worshipped. "Although we live so close to the border between the Human World and Netherworld and an affliction has befallen our brothers and sisters in Veldime caused by the evil Overlord Zenon, we must rejoice the coming of age of our beloved princess. May the Saviour always protect her. Let us pray." His Holiness clasped his hands together as he prayed for Sapphire.
Nero was bored half to sleep, but Sapphire, who was sitting beside him, listened intently, she always loved the story of Sparda, it was then she noticed how close she was to her childhood friend. The princess blushed as she reached out to hold the Young Knight's hand, hoping that he would react to her feelings for him.
Before Sapphire could hold his hand, Nero noticed a faint blue glow coming from his right arm, as if resonating with an unseen force.
Suddenly, Dante broke through the ceiling and landed on the table in front of Sanctus and without saying a word shot His Holiness right between the eyes.
"Your Holiness!" Credo was shocked by what had transpired, seeing Dante slay Sanctus in cold blood, he drew his sword and prompted his knights to do the same, he then immediately rushed to the old man's aid.
The knights surrounded Dante, watching him closely before attacking, one knight attempted to stab the Devil Hunter but was stabbed instead, then he swung Rebellion with the poor knight still impaled upon its blade, using his victim as a makeshift bludgeoning weapon, he then sent the corpse flying with a swing as he dispatched his remaining foes.
"No!" Credo was distraught at the sight of the bloodied Sanctus, cradling him in his arms; he then ordered the guests to evacuate and his subordinates to take away His Holiness' body.
After finishing off the knights, Dante approached Credo, Rebellion still soaked in the blood of his victims.
"Credo!" Sapphire shouted as she pointed her new gun at Dante, shooting him in the chest only for the shot not to faze him in the slightest.
Dante approached Sapphire, walking away from Credo and Sanctus, his face still covered in His Holiness' blood.
Before Dante could get any closer to Sapphire, Nero kicked him in the face, sending him flying before he landed on one of the statues arms, stabbing the statue with Rebellion to catch his balance and the Young Knight jumped after him, firing Blue Rose only for the bullets to be blocked by his sword, but then, the Devil Hunter found his blade kicked out of his hand and impaled on the statue's head. Nero landed on the other arm and both men pointed their respective firearms at each other.
"Nero!" Sapphire called out to the Young Knight, aware that Dante was powerful, having singlehandedly killed Credo's entire team of elite knights and her bullets having no effect on him.
"Go with Credo and get out of here!" Nero yelled out, he didn't want Sapphire to get involved, even though he knew she was more than capable of handling herself in a fight.
"I will return with help!" Credo escorted Sapphire out of the cathedral, still holding his sword. "You stall him until then!"
Nero and Dante were now in a standoff, Blue Rose and Ebony and Ivory both pointed at their targets.
"I won't hold my breath…" Nero stood his ground, preparing for his duel with Dante, he then fired Blue Rose, sending two bullets flying at his opponent.
Dante jumped into the air to avoid Nero's shots, firing his own out of Ebony and Ivory.
Nero jumped after Dante, firing more rounds from Blue Rose, the Devil Hunter reacting by firing his own rounds from Ebony and Ivory, the two opponents firing at each other from point blank.
Nero then grabbed Dante by the ankle and hurled him towards the statue's head and when the Devil Hunter tried to retrieve Rebellion, the Young Knight kicked it out of his hand again, only this time, Dante caught his sword mid-air.
Dante brought Rebellion down to strike at Nero only for the blade to be blocked by the Young Knight's right arm while it was still in its sling, but the force sent Nero tumbling down, using his leg to catch himself between the statue and its sword.
Nero saw Dante looking down at him, so he fired more rounds from Blue Rose and as he saw Dante evade his shots, he kicked the statue's sword, sending it down and running up its blade as the Young Knight and the Devil Hunter exchanged shots once more before both of them landed back on the ground.
"You got a jacked-up notion of fair play pal, and it's beginning to piss me off." Nero glared at Dante, pointing Blue Rose at him before firing once more, reloading his revolver between shots, though as he finished reloading, the Devil Hunter was out of his line of sight but almost instantaneously, Dante was a few feet behind Nero.
"I guess this doesn't quite cut it." Nero holstered Blue Rose and kicked up one of the Durandals, curved swords with what looked like a bike handle that were sticking out of the ground and caught it before stabbing the ground and revving up its blade to power up his strikes. "What's the point of packin' a sword like that if you aren't even gonna use it?" The Young Knight noted that Dante hasn't attacked him with Rebellion yet.
Dante held Rebellion up and looked at it before imitating Nero's revving motion to mock him.
Nero charged at Dante and they crossed swords, the Devil Hunter pushed the Young Knight back with great force, but Nero recovered quickly and struck again, but Dante knocked the Durandal out of his hand and lunged forward at high speed to stab his opponent.
Nero raised his right arm and when Rebellion broke the sling, the Young Knight's arm, the Devil Bringer, a clawed demonic red arm with a blue glow was revealed and the resulting force of Dante's sword colliding with his arm blowing away all the objects around them.
"You got a trick up your sleeve." Dante took notice of the Devil Bringer as he sensed a powerful but familiar aura to it.
"I thought the cat had your tongue." Still blocking the Rebellion with his Devil Bringer, Nero replied to Dante, surprised to hear him speak. "But if it's a trick you're looking for…" The Young Knight took hold of the sword and with great force, threw his opponent a few feet away.
"Looks like you too, are a-" Dante landed on his feet, recovering from being thrown by Nero.
As Dante spoke, Nero used a spectral extension of his Devil Bringer to lift the statue's massive sword from the ground before throwing it at Dante.
Dante moved his head to dodge the sword, managing to avoid it by mere centimetres.
"Hate to interrupt, but I wanna wrap this show up before the cavalry arrives!" Nero dusted his hands, now losing patience with Dante.
Dante struck at Nero only for Rebellion's blade to get caught again by the Devil Bringer, the Young Knight then tossed the Devil Hunter across the room, but Dante landed on one of the benches, seated casually after recovering.
"So, you're lookin' to play, huh? Dante crossed his leg as he talked to Nero, now interested in the Young Man's mysterious strength. "Alright, I guess I got some time to kill..." He leaned back on the bench, holding Rebellion.
"Tough guy, huh?" Nero was annoyed at Dante's flippant attitude; he then picked the Durandal up from the ground. "Well…"
Nero kicked one of the benches towards Dante and jumped forward to strike at him, but the Devil Hunter knew this so he countered the strike with his own.
"I think I'll have to take you down a couple notches." Nero smiled as he landed on the stacked benches, sitting and looking down at Dante.
"Whatever you say, kid." Dante smiled in amusement, ready to answer Nero's challenge.
Nero and the Dante fought once more, the Young Knight slashed his sword in an ex formation after swinging it around and the Devil Hunter parried his attacks, he then tossed Rebellion up in the air and he took out his Ebony and Ivory and opened fire, Nero responded by taking out Blue Rose and firing it, the Devil Hunter then put away his handguns and caught his sword, Nero then charged at him and was ready to punch him, the Dante blocked the punch but was pushed back, Nero the grabbed him by the ankle and punched his face, causing the Devil Hunter to lose his grip on his sword, sending it flying, Nero continued to punch his face, causing the red-coated man to transform on and off into his demonic form, Nero then threw him against the statue and picked up the Rebellion, throwing it at him, and impaling him against the statue.
Nero walked away, exhausted but sure he had one the fight, Dante was probably the strongest opponent he had ever had to face.
"Getting better…" Dante complimented Nero, still impaled by Rebellion on the statue. "I would even go as far as saying I underestimated your…" He pushed himself and his sword free from the statue" "Abilities." He finished speaking as he landed on the ground as if unharmed.
"You aren't human, are you?" Nero was shocked to see that Dante was alive after being impaled with such force, now sure that he was facing a demon.
"We're the same… you and…" Dante used both of his hands to push the Rebellion out of his chest." I…" The Devil Hunter gave Nero an amused smile. "And them…" He gestured to one of the fallen knights, who when unmasked, bore a demonic visage with black skin and orange eyes.
Nero turned to face the fallen knight, surprised by his demonic features.
"Though I suspect you carry something different from the others." Dante spoke, now sitting a few feet above in front of one of the broken windows.
"What are you talking about?" Nero pointed at Dante, annoyed at the vagueness of his statement and confused as to what he meant by it.
"You will come to learn the meaning soon enough." Dante assured Nero that he would get answers. "But… business beckons." He stood and turned away from the Young Knight.
"Hey!" Nero, unsatisfied with Dante's response, took out Blue Rose and shot at him, only to see that he was gone.
"Adios, kid." Dante showed himself once more, giving Nero a smile before disappearing again.
Nero was both exhausted and confused, Dante clearly knew more than he was letting on. After the fight, help came in the form of more knights, but the Devil Hunter was long gone. The Young Knight was left alone to think about the Devil Hunters words and they didn't sit well with him one bit.
Some time later, Credo and Sapphire returned and the princess was carrying a large black case for Nero with the Order of the Sword's insignia on it.
"You brought this here for me?" Nero smiled gratefully at Sapphire as he looked at her and then the case.
"You would've beaten him to a pulp if you had it." Sapphire smiled back at Nero, she would've wanted to see him defeat Dante and she also would've wanted to join the fight, but she was grateful that the young knight was alright. "But don't leave me out next time, okay?"
"I promise." Nero smiled at Sapphire before turning his attention to Credo and at the same time, he opened the case revealing his trademark sword, Red Queen, a heavily modified version of the Durandals with ornate red markings. "So, he's headed for Veldime, huh?"
"That's what the witnesses said." Credo nodded as he paced the room, thinking of both the recent attack and Veldime's curse. "There are several order facilities there as well."
"Not exactly a tourist friendly place." Nero joked as he revved Red Queen. "With all the locals getting turned into demons and all."
"You jest so lightly in a time of crisis!?" Credo was annoyed by Nero's attempt to lighten the mood. "We have His Holiness' killer out on the loose and we still have to break Overlord Zenon's curse!" He sighed as he composed himself. "You must capture him."
"Trust me, I'll get it done." Nero holstered Red Queen on his back, determined to complete his mission.
"Before the attack, His Holiness entrusted Overlord Zenon's defeat to you." Credo relayed Sanctus' last orders to Nero.
"Two demons in one day?" Nero sighed as he thought of the future headaches this new mission could cause him. "Just my luck…" He then thought a little more about Overlord Zenon's curse and the demonised populace. "Maybe Zenon's the reason my arm changed…"
"Nero, can we talk?" Sapphire approached Nero, now looking uncharacteristically flushed and nervous.
"Sorry, duty calls." Nero shook his head, but then he saw the disappointment in Sapphire's eyes. "Can't pass up on an emergency…"
"Just don't keep me waiting." Sapphire smiled and punched Nero's right arm playfully. "Or I'll drag you back here myself!"
Nero smiled and nodded in acknowledgment, but he was also nervous, knowing just how strong Sapphire really was.
"I remember you telling me Veldime was where the accident occurred… when your arm changed." Credo remembered what Nero had told him years ago, sharing his suspicion that Overlord Zenon might be involved.
"I lost all memory of that place back then… because my arm changed." Nero thought about that fateful day when he was found in the border between Fortuna and Veldime in Mitis Forest. "Maybe this mission will give me answers."
"I must return to headquarters to report." Credo looked at Nero and then Sapphire. "Come with me, Princess… the people need to know that you're safe."
"Come back quickly. That's an order!" Sapphire shot Nero a smile before she and Credo left the room.
A few hours later, Nero headed to Holt Village located within Veldime, following the map that Credo had given him and he was told to look for a guide that the Order of the Sword had chosen for him.
"A little early for Halloween…" Nero joked to himself as he looked around, taking note of the demonised citizens.
"So, you're the knight The Order sent to help us?" Mom, a middle-aged woman with blue hair and three red eyes and a tail dressed in a blue apron over a white dress approached Nero.
"Yeah, that's me. The name's Nero" The Young Knight nodded as he acknowledged the three-eyed woman's presence. "Guess Credo told you to expect me."
"And you can call me Mom. Come with me, I'll give you a place to rest and I'll introduce you to my family." The three-eyed woman smiled at Nero as she invited him to her home.
Later that night, Nero was at the three-eyed woman's home and there, he met her family, her husband, Dad, a red-haired man with grey skin, a horn and a growth with a face on his chest with glasses dressed in a red vest, her first son, Adell, a young man about Nero's age with red hair and black eyes dressed in a sleeveless white shirt, an oversized red tie, gloves and baggy black pants, her second son, Taro a young boy with grey hair, red eyes and horns dressed in an apron with a cow pattern over a blue shirt and white shorts and her daughter, Hanako, a young girl with pink hair, red eyes and small wings on her back dressed in a small white top and pink shorts.
"Are you a real knight?" Hanako took Nero's hand gently, captivated by his white hair and icy blue eyes, to her, she looked just like the knights in her fairy tales and it made her blush slightly. "You look really cool…"
"Hanako has a crush." Taro laughed a bit as he teased his sister, her attraction to Nero clear as day.
"Taro, be nice to your sister." Mom frowned as she saw her younger son and Hanako about to get into another argument.
"Yeah, Tardo, be nice!" Hanako mocked her brother as she stuck her tongue out. "Mom, Dad, can Nero stay in my room with me?" She asked her parents.
"That's out of the question." Dad spoke out, the idea of his daughter sharing a room with a boy not sitting well with him.
"So, you're a knight of The Order of the Sword, right?" Adell asked Nero, as an aspiring demon hunter himself, he was excited to meet the Young Knight. "We should spar sometime." He raised his fist, challenging his new friend to a duel.
"Maybe next time, I just got out of a scrape this morning…" Nero still remembered how tough his fight with Dante was. "But hey, if you ever wanna join The Order, I'll put in a good word for you."
"The guest room is right beside Hanako's." Mom said to Nero with a smile on her face, she was glad that he was down to earth and approachable for a knight. "We'll perform a ritual to summon Overlord Zenon tomorrow morning."
The next morning, Nero, Adell and Mom were gathered outside the family house and in front of them was a large pot.
"So, we're summoning Overlord Zenon, right?" Nero asked Mom, he was ready to face the overlord, but he was sceptical about the prospect of summoning one smack dab in the middle of a populated village. "I could just ask Order intelligence to look for his castle…"
"Yeah! Then we can face Overlord Zenon and his minions head on!" Adell pumped his fist up in excitement, the idea of fighting an overlord was thrilling to him.
"Oh, yes we do." Mom shook her head at both Nero and Adell's suggestions. "We've already searched for him and we haven't found a clue. Besides, we've already finished all the preparations to summon him." She gestured at the large pot and the ingredients inside. "Fried Dragon, Fairy Oil, the Shura Sword, Clown Shoes, and a Wyrm Bone… it's all here. Now we just need to sacrifice a bit of life energy to summon Zenon… I hope." Suddenly, she wasn't so sure. "You and Adell just concentrate on defeating Overlord Zenon when he's summoned. Ok?"
"Hang on… where's the rest of your family?" Nero asked curiously, noting the absence of Dad, Taro and Hanako.
Just as Nero asked, Dad, Taro and Hanako popped their heads out of the pot, looking worse for wear.
"Honey, this summon is going to take more than just a little life. We're gonna die." Dad protested, afraid of what the ritual would do.
"Yeah, why do you have to use our life anyways?" Taro protested as well, also not feeling good about the ritual.
Nero didn't feel good about sacrificing the lives of innocents, even if it was for his mission, but then, he remembered all the times the Devil Bringer resonated with demonic power, so he had an idea.
"Stand back, I got this…" Nero pulled back his sleeve to reveal more of the Devil Bringer, he used its spectral extension to pull Dad, Taro and Hanako out of the pot before placing his demonic arm into it, channelling his infernal energy into it as it manifested into blue flames. "Okay, do your thing!"
"That's perfect!" Mom smiled, the energy from Nero's Devil Bringer being more than enough, she then chanted and played her flute to begin the ritual. "By the spirits of darkness and light… by this boy's hand, by his power, in the name of Nero, I hereby summon Overlord Zenon to his side!" A magic seal depicting a four-leaf clover appeared, resonating with the flames that surrounded the Young Knight's demonic arm, the seal glowed violently as lighting struck and an explosion of demonic energy erupted from it, followed by an intense explosion, but after that, silence. "Oh, what went wrong?" She frowned in disappointment.
Just as the smoke cleared, the four-leaf clover seal glowed and Rozalin, a young woman with blond hair, red eyes and a pair of black wings, dressed in a regal black and red dress floated in place and when the seal faded, she fell right on top of Nero with her chest on his face.
"Hmm...? What happened? Where am I?" Rozalin opened her eyes in a daze, she was just in her room a second ago and now she found herself falling from the sky.
"It's… a girl?!" Adell was shocked by Rozalin appearing after the summoning ritual.
"Well, sure is cute for an overlord." Mom took note of Rozalin's attractive features.
"Dammit... what the hell happened?!" Nero tried to speak, but his voice was muffled by Rozalin's chest.
Rozalin was out of her confused daze and the first thing she noticed was her chest pressed up against a boy's face and with that her face turned red from both embarrassment and anger.
"Ugh! You pervert!" Rozalin glared, despite blushing, finding her position very humiliating, she stood up immediately. "How dare you act this way before a princess?!" She was fuming with anger.
"Hey, it's not my fault! How about you watch where you're landing?" Nero stood as well, dusting himself off as he blushed slightly from his previous compromising position with Rozalin. "Also, who the hell are you, and where's Overlord Zenon?"
"Overlord Zenon?" Rozalin's mood changed once the overlord was mentioned. "Do you know my father?" She pressed on, eager to find out.
"Father?" Nero questioned Rozalin's bold claim, he didn't think someone like Overlord Zenon could ever fall in love and produce a child, let alone someone as beautiful as the Demon Princess. "You're his daughter?"
"That I am!" Rozalin smiled proudly as she exclaimed. "For I am Rozalin, the one and only daughter of Overlord Zenon!"
"Just my luck…" Nero sighed at the failed attempt at summoning Overlord Zenon. "And here I thought things would be nice and easy for a change…"
"Wait…" Rozalin took a closer look at Nero, his white hair, his icy blue eyes and most importantly, his Devil Bringer were all deeply familiar to her. "N-Nero?!" Her eyes lit up as they started to water, her lips forming a genuine smile.
"You… know me?" Nero gave Rozalin a confused look, her sudden change in tone and attitude also not making sense to him.
"Nero!" Rozalin suddenly hugged the Young Knight, smiling with tears in her eyes. "I'm so glad we're together again…"
"What the hell is going on…?" Nero stood still as Rozalin hugged him, he found the situation awkward yet slightly familiar.
"You… don't remember me?" Rozalin's smile faded before turning into a frown, her hold on Nero tightening.
"I think I'd remember Overlord Zenon's daughter…" Nero shrugged once, for the life of him, he couldn't understand what Rozalin was saying about knowing him.
"Y-You're the worst!" Rozalin pushed Nero away and glared daggers at him, a dark aura manifesting behind her. "You promised that we'd be together forever, you promised to marry me!"
"H-Hold on… there's no way!" Nero was shocked, not only did Rozalin know him from the past, but they were close enough to make a marriage promise in her eyes, it was then that he remembered that the day he got the Devil Bringer, he lost a portion of his memories, perhaps the Demon Princess was someone he forgot as well.
"You're my fiancé!" Rozalin glared as she suddenly grabbed Nero's arm again, squeezing it tightly. "I swear, I will make you remember!"
Nero was both shocked and confused by the turn of events, summoning Rozalin, Overlord Zenon's daughter instead of him and her telling him that they were engaged was all too much for him to take. With his mission to capture Dante and to defeat Overlord Zenon already proving difficult, now he had the Demon Princess to deal with.
Outside Holt Village, Dante made his way through the forest, killing all the demons that had attacked him along the way until he met with a familiar face, Etna, a young-looking demon with red hair and red eyes dressed in a leather two-piece outfit and in her hand was her Elder Spear, an ornate red polearm.
"So, I guess Trish told you, too." Dante shrugged, knowing that there was only one reason Etna would come to Fortuna and Veldime. "The Order of the Sword has the Yamato…"
"Yeah, and I'm taking it for myself." Etna proclaimed, the Yamato was very important to her and a weapon she swore she would claim. "It's all I have to remember Vergil by…" Her proud tone turned sombre as she mentioned Dante's twin brother.
"It's gotta stay in the family, you know?" Dante's usual playful tone disappeared; he knew that the Yamato was dangerous in the wrong hands.
"Yeah?" Etna crossed her arms and looked away. "Well, if it were up to me, we'd be family…" She remembered just how much she loved Vergil.
"Well, the Yamato's not the only thing my big bro left behind." Dante chuckled at Etna's uncharacteristic sentimentality before recalling his fight with Nero. "I met this kid… and he looked just like Vergil but had your attitude."
"Hm?" Etna's curiosity was suddenly peaked at the mention of Nero and she suddenly understood what he was implying. "Tell me more about him."
Nero's journey to defeat Overlord Zenon and to capture Dante had just begun, but what he didn't expect was to meet Rozalin, a woman who claimed they had a past together and Dante and Etna both seek to claim the Yamato from the Order of the Sword. Now, Nero and Dante's missions set the stage for a new chapter in Sparda's illustrious legacy.
Author's note: So, the Nero Arc of my rebooted The Traitor's Bloodline story is out and compared to the previous version, I think the writing's better this time around and now that Devil May Cry 5 and Disgaea 6 and 7 are out, I have a lot more story to work with. The story will adapt Devil May Cry 4 and Disgaea 2, but will become very different the further the story goes. Nero's relationship with Rozalin is one of the main driving forces of this story and both Sparda and Vergil's legacies will be important. In this story, Etna is Nero's mother and she fell in love with Vergil years before the events of the story, that will be the story of the new Vergil Arc story that will come out someday.
Both Rozalin and Sapphire are in love with Nero and they will clash eventually when they meet, since they're both his childhood friends. Rozalin's nature as the reincarnated True Zenon and her previous self's relationship with Sparda will also be explored. I gave a small teaser to what the new Sparda Arc will be like and it will cross over with Disgaea 5.
The final chapter in The Traitor's Bloodline story will be the "Blood of Sparda Arc" and it will adapt the events of Devil May Cry 5 and Disgaea 6, though it may take a while since I still have to play Disgaea 6, but I more or less have a plan for the story and Vergil's role in the story will be the most important one. The Nephilim Arc won't be canon anymore with a Castlevania and Disgaea crossover spinoff taking its place in the timeline, the story is called "A Promise of Sorrow" and will adapt Disgaea 4 and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. I won't completely ignore DmC: Devil May Cry, though and its version of Dante and Vergil will appear in the Blood of Sparda arc since Disgaea 6 deals with multiple worlds.
So, there you have it, my first entry in the Devil May Cry Netherworld Chronicle series. I hope you all like it and don't worry, The Traitor's Bloodline will continue, but I will focus on this new series more. If you have any suggestions or just want to talk about the series, fell free to send me a message.
