Prologue: Sacrifices

The duty of the Avatar is one for life and much of it is giving your life. Before even knowing the horrors of war, I understood that the life of the Avatar wasn't for me, even if given to me it would be. I ran and it followed. Life insisted I take the hand I'd been offered and, though reluctantly, I accepted it. A life of sacrifice followed and I accepted it. It was my mistake.

It is the duty of the Avatar to protect the world and though it often involves self-sacrifice, I've learnt that there is more to it than that. The Avatar is human. There is so much to give, but you can't give everything. When you give everything, you risk having nothing left to give. You risk losing everything.

The duty of the Avatar, is not that of a god. The Avatar is human. You have limits. You need limits

The duty of the Avatar, is to guide humanity. Thus, you can't forget you are a human with needs, emotions, and desires. Before you are a friend, before you are a sibling, before you are a son, before you are an occupation...You are you.
